What the Claude Bitly connector changes for your links
Short links and QR Codes usually get made one at a time, between two other tasks. With the connector, you ask Claude inside the conversation where you are already drafting the email, the post or the flyer, and it produces the short link or the code itself in your Bitly account. It can also look up what exists in your groups and fix a destination that went wrong.
Links made where the copy is written. Drafting a newsletter with Claude, you ask for a branded short link: create_short_link produces it with the customization you ask for, ready to paste in the next line.
A QR Code for the printed version. create_qr_code makes a new code for that link.
Tidy up after a campaign. get_group_short_links lists the links of a group with filters, and update_short_link archives the ones you no longer need or points them at a new page.
What is missing counts as much. Ten of the twenty-seven names on the directory sheet have no official description today: Bitly's current reference uses bitly_ names, serves analytics through three tools that are not on the sheet, and has no exact match for those ten, so this page cannot say what they do. Deleting a link works only on links never edited. And nothing runs on its own: no tool reacts to a click spike or a new campaign. Connect Bitly to Claude in three steps

Find Bitly in the list
Open Claude's settings, go to Customize, then Connectors, and look for Bitly. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization before members can each sign in.

Sign in to Bitly
Click Connect on the Bitly row, then log in to your Bitly account in the window Bitly opens. If the link breaks later, Disconnect and connect again; access can also be withdrawn from Bitly itself.

Check the Bitly screen
Read the authorization screen before accepting. It belongs to Bitly, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. It may list broader rights than Claude uses day to day; the per-action approval stays the default rule.

get_short_link_details
Returns the full record of a short link: title, destination, creation date, creator, tags and custom domains. Claude reads it to answer questions about a link you did not set up yourself.
get_qr_code
Fetches the metadata of a QR Code, including the details page where you can view or download it. Claude uses it to confirm which code is which before you print anything.
get_qr_code_image
Returns the image of a QR Code as an encoded data URI rather than a web address.
get_group_qr_codes
Lists the QR Codes of a group, with filtering and pagination, and once the right one is found the QR Code details tool gives its metadata, so Claude can find the one you mean among many.
get_user
Returns the profile of the Bitly user Claude is signed in as. It is a quick sanity check that the connection landed on the right account.
get_organizations
Lists the Bitly organizations your account can reach, the top level above groups.
get_groups
Returns your groups, Bitly's workspaces, optionally narrowed to one organization. It tells Claude which workspace a link or code belongs in.
get_group_details
Reads the record of one group, including the custom domains attached to it, so Claude knows which branded domain is available there.
get_group_short_links
Lists the links of a group with rich filtering. Claude pages through them for you, then can open the full record of any link you point at.
get_group_short_links_sorted
Sorts the links of a group by performance and returns them in that order. It is the only performance view the documented tools describe, and Claude can read that order back to you as a short ranking for the group.
get_custom_domains
Lists the custom domains your account can use for short links, so Claude picks the right branded domain rather than the default one.
get_custom_link_details
Looks up a custom-keyword link and its override history, which is useful when a branded link has been repointed several times over the months and nobody remembers the order.

What Claude checks with you before touching Bitly
By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account for you. The prompt appears in the conversation when it matters.
On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also narrow what a connector may do across the whole organization, for instance keeping lookups on and every edit off, and nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected: groups and organizations your Bitly login cannot reach stay out of its reach too.
Which plans the Claude Bitly connector is on
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. The answer connector by connector is published nowhere: a real hole in the catalog.
The general rule is published. Remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile; desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can each sign in. For the live state of Bitly, the connector's sheet in the official directory is the place to look.
Where the Bitly connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing starts when a link gets clicks or a code gets scanned.
Only Bitly documents this connector: no Claude help article covers it, and Bitly's tool reference carries no date. The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise, and an administrator can open actions no public sheet shows. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it neither picks a publisher's tools nor guarantees how they behave.
