Overview

What changes when Claude can work in your Descript Drive

You describe the result you want in a sentence and Claude hands the work to Descript: bring a recording into a project, then follow the job until it is done. Descript's help pages say the connector can also edit with Underlord, its built-in AI editor, manage projects and publish to a web link; none of those pages names the tool that does it.

Get a recording into the right project. An interview sits in a shared folder. import_media brings it into your Drive, where Descript transcribes it. Descript notes that YouTube links are refused as an import source.

Know where a long job stands. Imports, edits and publishing run as background jobs. get_job checks one of them, list_jobs shows the recent ones, so you are not refreshing the app to see if the episode is ready.

Stop a job you launched by mistake. Wrong file, wrong project: cancel_job halts it before it eats more of your quota.

What it will not do: hand you a finished MP4 without publishing it first, export a transcript as DOCX, or reach a Drive other than the one you connected. Descript says the directory version has no generative image or video tools. And nothing starts on its own; Claude calls these tools while it answers. For another connector that edits content in a work account, see the Claude airtable connector page.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while connecting Descript.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already own, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude chooses the ones it needs by itself; the directory sheet lists them by name.
Authorization
The sign-in screen of Descript itself, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person, and reversible.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with a change to your account, shown in the chat when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on, which is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Descript.
Connect

Connect Descript to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

Find Descript in the connector list

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize, then Connectors, and find Descript. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector before each member can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in to Descript in the window Descript opens. Descript scopes the connection to a single Drive, the one you choose, so pick it with care.

  3. 03

    Review the authorization screen

Read Descript's screen before you allow access. It belongs to Descript, not to Claude, and it decides what the access covers. If the link breaks later, Disconnect and connect again.

Tools

The 5 tools, sorted by what they do

Descript gives Claude 5 tools: 2 that read your account, 2 that change something in it, and 1 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it changes, and the one tool no official source describes. Names stay as Claude shows them.

  • 1 not documented

What Claude reads (2)

2 tools

Two tools that report on your jobs without changing anything.

get_job

Reports the state of a single job, whatever kind it is, so Claude can tell you if it is still running or finished.

When it helps
you started an import before lunch and want to know if the transcript is ready.
Watch out
Descript keeps job records for 30 days; after that there is nothing left to check.

list_jobs

Shows the jobs recently run on your Drive, so you get an overview instead of chasing IDs one at a time.

When it helps
after a batch of podcast episodes, you want to see which imports went through and which did not.
Watch out
the same 30-day history limit applies, so older jobs drop off the list.

What Claude changes (2)

2 tools

Two tools that act on your Drive. No source gives them a confirmation of their own; the general rule below applies.

import_media

Approval: see the rule

Brings a video or audio file into Descript, on the Drive you connected, ready for transcription.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation for this tool, so the general approval rule below covers it.
When it helps
a webinar recording sits in a shared folder and you want it in the "Podcasts" folder of your Drive.
Watch out
Descript warns that imports use your media minutes.

cancel_job

Approval: see the rule

Stops a job that is still running on your Drive. Useful when the wrong file or the wrong project was picked.

What Claude asks for
no confirmation specific to this tool is documented; the default rule in the approvals section applies.
When it helps
you launched an edit on the rough cut instead of the final version and want to stop it.

Undocumented (1)

1 tool

The directory publishes this name and nothing more. No official text ties it to a described capability, and we will not guess from its name.

prompt_project_agent

No official source names this tool or describes what it does: Descript's pages list capabilities without tying them to tool names, and the directory only publishes the name.

Watch out
whatever it is used for, the general approval rule applies.
Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks before any action it takes on your behalf. The request shows up in the chat, at the moment it matters.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether members can let some actions through without a prompt each time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, keeping reading open and closing changes, and nobody overrides that from their own account. Claude works with your Descript access and nothing more: it only sees the one Drive you connected. A project you cannot open in Descript stays closed to Claude too.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows availability by plan. That answer, connector by connector, is not published anywhere; it is a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector for the organization before members connect. The current status sits on the Descript sheet in the official directory. Everything specific here comes from Descript alone: Anthropic has no page on this connector.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you; nothing starts on its own when a new recording lands in a folder.

The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise: an administrator can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not pick a publisher's tools or guarantee how they behave. Descript also recommends Chat mode rather than Cowork. Everything specific on this page comes from Descript itself, since Anthropic has no page on this connector. Other connector pages are in the Integrations hub.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Claude Descript connector

01What can Claude do with the Descript connector?
Claude can bring media into your Descript Drive and keep an eye on the work that follows. Of its five listed tools, one imports audio or video, two report on jobs, and one cancels a running job. The fifth, prompt_project_agent, is described by no official source. Descript's help pages also mention editing with Underlord, managing projects and publishing to a web link, without naming the tools that do it. In practice, you describe the result and Claude handles the Descript side.
02Can Claude change or delete things in my Descript account?
It can change things, yes. Importing media adds files and projects to your Drive, and cancelling stops a job that is running. Nothing on the directory sheet is described as deleting projects. By default the documented tools stay within those actions, though an administrator can open more on a workspace. Keep in mind that Descript counts imports against your media minutes and edits against your AI credits. Nothing here happens outside the one Drive you connected.
03Does Claude ask before it imports or cancels anything?
By default, yes: Claude asks for confirmation before any action it takes on your behalf. No source describes a confirmation specific to import_media or cancel_job, so that default rule is what applies. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without a prompt, and they can close the tools that change things for the whole organization. Owners can also leave job tracking open while blocking imports.
04Which Claude plans include the Descript connector?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The published rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector first. For your current status, check the Descript sheet in the official directory, which is the only place that shows it. The information can change between two updates of the catalogue.
05Can Claude see all my Descript projects?
Only those on one Drive. Descript scopes the connection to the single Drive you choose, and Claude works with your own access and nothing more. A project on a different Drive returns an error. A project shared with you still follows the rights you have in Descript. New projects created through the connector land on that same Drive, since Descript only lets it create and access projects there. If you work across several Drives, pick the one that holds the projects you want Claude to handle before you connect.
06Can Claude give me the finished video file?
Not directly. Descript says the connector cannot hand over a rendered file without publishing: you publish to a Descript web link, and from there you get signed links to the MP4 or audio. A plain download of the finished video has to be done in the Descript app. Transcripts are different, since Descript lists several text formats, though DOCX is not one of them. Publishing first is the step that unlocks the file.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with Descript?
They do different jobs, so it depends on the use. Claude with this connector suits work you steer in a conversation: import this file, check that job, stop that one. An automation tool runs a fixed sequence on its own when something happens, such as a new file in a folder. This connector never starts anything by itself, so hands-off pipelines belong in an automation tool. The two can sit side by side without overlap.
