Overview

What changes for your legal team

You no longer leave the conversation to open Harvey. With the connector on, Claude can hand a legal question to Harvey, query the documents of a Vault project you can access, or consult a specialised research source, then fold the answer into the work you are doing with Claude.

Get a first legal answer in context. A product manager asks what makes a contract breach actionable. Ask Harvey puts that general question to Harvey's broad legal knowledge, with no document involved.

Work across a deal's file. Before a call, List Vault Projects shows the Vault projects your account can open, then Ask Harvey About Vault Project asks about their documents, for example a summary of indemnification clauses.

Check a specialised source. List Knowledge Sources tells you which research databases your account has, and Ask Harvey With Knowledge Source sends the question to one of them.

Now what the sheet leaves out. Harvey files this server under a beta label, and each call stands alone: Harvey keeps no conversation history between requests. Nothing runs by itself either: no tool reacts when a document lands in a Vault project. Background work on events belongs to an automation tool, a different job; the Integrations hub covers it.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while connecting Harvey.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while answering you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs by itself, and the directory lists each by name.
Authorization
The sign-in screen of the service itself, where you hand Claude its access. Granted once per person, and you can take it back.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes through with something that changes your account, shown right in the conversation.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect Harvey to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Harvey in Claude

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Harvey in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector first, before each member can sign in on their side.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in to Harvey in the window Harvey opens itself. The access granted there is yours alone, given once per person. If the link breaks later, use Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Check the authorization screen before you accept. It belongs to Harvey, not to Claude, and it decides what the access covers. You can also withdraw that access later from the Harvey side.

Tools

The 5 tools, sorted by what they do

Harvey gives Claude 5 tools: 5 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

One group this time: every tool returns information without changing your Harvey account. Names stay exactly as the directory shows them.

Ask Harvey

Puts a broad legal question to Harvey and brings back its answer, drawn from Harvey's general legal knowledge rather than from any of your documents.

When it helps
a founder wants the building blocks of a breach-of-contract claim before talking to outside counsel.

Ask Harvey About Vault Project

Points a question at the documents stored in one Vault project and returns Harvey's analysis.

When it helps
an associate needs every indemnification clause in a data room summarised before a negotiation call.
Watch out
your account must hold the VAULT permission, or Harvey refuses the call.

Ask Harvey With Knowledge Source

Routes the question to one specialised research database chosen among those enabled for you, and returns Harvey's answer built on it. A source that is not enabled for your account stays out of reach.

When it helps
a tax adviser checks the official guidance on capital gains for non-residents.

List Vault Projects

Returns the Vault projects your Harvey login is allowed to see. It is how you see which projects a Vault question can target.

When it helps
you are joining a matter midway and want to know which project holds its files.

List Knowledge Sources

Lays out the research knowledge sources open to your account, so you know which ones a research question can use. Harvey limits research questions to the sources enabled for your account.

When it helps
a new trainee asks which specialised databases the firm's Harvey account actually covers.

Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it takes on an account for you. The request shows up in the conversation, when it matters.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also cap what a connector may do for the whole organization, keeping reads open and closing writes, and nobody overrides that from their own account. Claude works with your rights and nothing more: Harvey's server only reaches what the signed-in person may view in Harvey.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows availability by plan. That answer is published nowhere, connector by connector: a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members can connect. For the current state, check the connector's sheet in the official directory, the only place that shows it.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a document is added to Vault or a deadline approaches.

The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise: an administrator can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes and does not guarantee they behave as announced. Only Harvey's developer documentation covers this connector. It files the server under a beta label, and the directory sheet lists three regional addresses, for the US, the EU and Australia.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Harvey connector

01What can Claude do with the Claude Harvey connector?
Claude can put legal questions to Harvey and read back the answers. One tool asks a general question from Harvey's broad legal knowledge. Another queries the documents of a Vault project you can access and returns cited analysis. A third uses one of your specialised research sources. Two listing tools show which Vault projects and research sources your account reaches, so Claude can pick the right one. Harvey labels the whole server as a beta.
02Can Claude write, upload or delete anything in Harvey?
Not with the five tools on the directory sheet: each returns an answer or a list, and Harvey's documentation describes no tool that adds, edits or removes anything in your workspace. A read-only list stays a floor rather than a guarantee, since an administrator can open actions that no public sheet shows. The five tools match one to one the five names in Harvey's documentation, which files the server under a beta label.
03Does Claude ask before it uses Harvey?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before each action it carries out on an account on your behalf. No source describes a confirmation specific to any Harvey tool, so that default rule is what covers them. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether members may let certain actions pass without being asked, and they can close writing for the whole organization. The official per-tool label, read-only or write, only shows in a connected account's settings.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and no directory sheet shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable a connector before members can sign in to it. On the publisher's side, you also need an account enrolled in the hosted server. The directory sheet is the only place with the current state for your account.
05Does Claude see every Vault project in our firm?
No. Claude works with your rights and nothing more. Harvey states its server can only reach what the signed-in user may view: Vault queries stay within projects that user can open, and research queries within sources enabled for that account. Each person authenticates separately, so two colleagues may get different results. Asking about Vault documents also requires the VAULT permission, granted by your Harvey workspace administrator. Without it, those questions fail.
06Why does Claude say Harvey is not enabled for me?
Because Harvey has to enroll your user in its hosted server before any tool answers. Harvey's documentation sends you to your Harvey admin or representative for that step. A different message, saying you lack permission for a specific tool, usually concerns Vault: those questions need the VAULT permission on your account. Harvey gives the Vault question tool as its example of a tool that requires it, and sends you to your Harvey workspace administrator to check your permissions.
07Claude or an automation tool for Harvey?
They answer different needs, so it depends on the task. Claude works inside a conversation: you ask, it queries Harvey and returns the answer, and nothing else happens once you stop typing. It does not react on its own when a file reaches a Vault project or a review is due. For processing that runs in the background on an event, that is the job of an automation tool. For legal questions answered on demand, the connector is the right fit.
