Overview

What changes when Claude can run TurboTax tools

Normally you open a tax calculator, fill in a form, then go back to the chat to ask what the number means. With the connector, Claude asks you the questions itself, runs Intuit's estimator and shows the result in a small visual panel, then stays around to explain it and point you to filing options or a human expert.

A refund estimate in a few questions. Answer the few questions Claude asks: tax_estimate works out your estimated federal refund or amount owed and shows it as a widget.

The right way to file. tax_filing_options lays out different TurboTax filing options, and you pick what works for you from an interactive panel.

A real expert when it gets complicated. expert_search puts you in touch with available tax experts through Intuit's Connect Now service, for questions or for having your return prepared.

What it does not do matters too. Intuit says the tools cover US federal taxes for 2025 and US time zones only, and the estimates are for reference. Intuit also describes a tax checklist and a document upload in Claude, yet neither appears on the directory sheet we read. Nothing runs by itself: no reminder fires before a deadline, Claude acts only when you ask. Scheduled or event-driven work is an automation tool's job, a different one; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The Claude vocabulary this page relies on, in under a minute.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named action the connector hands to Claude. Claude picks the ones it needs by itself; the directory sheet lists them by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you grant the access Claude will use afterwards. Given once per person, and revocable.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for in the chat before it goes ahead with something that would change your account.
MCP
The open standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as TurboTax.
Connect

Connect TurboTax to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find TurboTax in Claude

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look up TurboTax in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector before members can each sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in to TurboTax in the window the service opens itself. If the link breaks later, use Disconnect and connect again from the same row.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Check the screen TurboTax shows before you accept it. It belongs to the service, not to Claude, and it is what sets what the access covers. Access granted there can also be withdrawn later from the TurboTax side.

Tools

The 3 tools, and what each returns

Intuit TurboTax gives Claude 3 tools: 3 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Three tools, all of them reading or calculating. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

3 tools

Three tools that compute or look things up and leave your TurboTax account as it is.

tax_filing_options

Puts several TurboTax filing options side by side in an interactive panel, where you review them and choose the one that works for you.

When it helps
you went freelance this year and are not sure whether a do-it-yourself product still covers your case.

tax_estimate

Works out your estimated US federal refund or amount owed. Claude first asks a few questions, then displays the result in a visual widget.

When it helps
a single filer with one salary wants a rough idea of the refund before gathering any paperwork.
Watch out
Intuit presents the figure as a reference only, not as your filed result.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account for someone. The three tools here compute or look things up, and no source describes a confirmation specific to any of them.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without a prompt each time. They can also restrict what a connector may do for the whole organization, and nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing beyond. Intuit adds a data point worth reading: what you share with Claude for these tools goes to Intuit, and Intuit's answers may be visible to Claude.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. The answer, connector by connector, is published nowhere.

What is published is the general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can each connect. Intuit words it differently; the limits section below sets both side by side. For the live state, the Intuit TurboTax sheet in the official directory is the place to look.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing starts when a deadline approaches or a form arrives.

Everything here comes from the directory sheet and Intuit's help article: no Claude help page covers this connector. By default the sheet exposes no writing tool, and a tool list is an observed floor, not a promise. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it neither picks a publisher's tools nor guarantees how they behave. Connect it only if you trust Intuit with your tax details.

Two official sources disagree

Do you need a Claude subscription to use the TurboTax connector?

What this page followsNeither side is outdated. Anthropic's rule covers every connector; Intuit's sentence is the only one aimed at TurboTax, but it is the publisher talking, not Anthropic. Check the directory sheet on your own account before relying on either.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Intuit TurboTax connector

01What can Claude do with the Intuit TurboTax connector?
Claude can estimate your US federal tax refund or amount owed, show you which TurboTax filing options suit your situation, and connect you with an available tax expert. The three listed tools are tax_estimate, tax_filing_options and expert_search. For an estimate, Claude asks you a handful of questions first, then shows the result in a visual widget. Filing options also appear in an interactive panel where you can choose. Intuit presents every estimate as a reference figure, not as your filed result.
02Can Claude file my return or change my TurboTax account?
Nothing on the directory sheet does that. The three listed tools calculate an estimate, display filing options and search for experts; none is described as filing a return or editing your account. Intuit's article also mentions a document upload into your TurboTax account, but that tool is absent from the sheet we read. Treat the list as today's floor, since a tool list can change, and file through TurboTax itself.
03Does Claude ask before it uses the TurboTax tools?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account in your name, and that general rule is what applies. No source describes a confirmation step specific to any of the three tools. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without a prompt, and they can restrict what any connector does across the organization. Intuit adds that what you share with Claude for these tools goes to Intuit.
04Which plans is the TurboTax connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. Claude's help center gives the general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. Intuit's help article words the requirement differently, and this page sets both side by side in its limits section. The directory sheet on your own account shows the live state.
05Does Claude see my whole TurboTax account?
Claude works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing beyond. None of the three listed tools is described as reading a past return. Intuit notes that data shared with Claude for these tools goes to Intuit, and that TurboTax's responses may be accessible to Claude. Keep that in mind before typing sensitive details. The sheet exposes no writing tool by default, and a tool list stays an observed floor rather than a promise, since it can change.
06Does the TurboTax connector work for state taxes or other years?
Not according to Intuit. Its help article says the app is built for US time zones and supports US federal taxes for 2025. The sources describe nothing for state returns, earlier years or other countries, so an estimate outside that scope should not be expected. Intuit also says the numbers shown in Claude are for reference only, so treat any figure as a starting point. The tax checklist and document upload that Intuit also describes are absent from the directory sheet we read.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with TurboTax?
They answer different needs, so this is not a ranking. Claude with this connector suits a conversation where you want an estimate, an explanation of the result and a pointer to the right filing route or expert. An automation tool suits jobs that must run on their own, on a schedule or after an event. This connector does not do that: nothing starts until you ask Claude a question. Pick by the shape of the task.
