What changes when Claude can search Metal
Your firm's history is spread across company profiles, deal records, documents, contacts and recorded activities. With this connector, you ask Claude and it searches your firm's Metal data itself, with the same permissions you have in the app. Metal adds that runs of firm workflows started from Claude also appear in the app.
Rebuild the context on a target. Gather everything on one company: search_companies finds it by name, get_company pulls the full profile, and get_activities lists past meetings, calls and interactions.
Check what the documents actually say. search_documents looks through document content, then get_document returns the extracted text line by line so Claude can quote it.
Launch the firm's own process. When a workflow configured in Metal is the next step, get_workflow shows what input it expects and run_workflow starts it, with the run then visible in Metal.
Where it stops. The directory sheet shows one action among 24 tools; Metal's own docs describe many more, opened by scopes and admin settings. Built-in experiences such as DDQ Solver cannot be launched from Claude at all. And nothing fires by itself: no new deal or document wakes Claude up. Recurring jobs belong to an automation tool, a different line of work gathered on the Integrations hub.
Five words before you connect
The vocabulary of Claude's settings, glossed once.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing a connector lets Claude do on that account. Claude picks the tools it needs; the directory sheet lists all of them by name.
- Authorization
- Metal's own sign-in screen, where you grant the access Claude will use and pick the organization. Given once per person, revocable later.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes through with something that changes your account, shown in the chat at the right moment.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect Metal to Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Metal
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Metal in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members can sign in.
- 02
Sign in to Metal
Click Connect on its row and log in with your Metal account in the window Metal opens. If you belong to several organizations, Metal asks which one to connect. If the link breaks, use Disconnect.
- 03
Read the authorization screen
Check what the screen asks before you approve. It is Metal's screen, not Claude's, and it decides what the access covers. You can withdraw the access later from the Metal side as well.
The 24 tools, grouped by what they do
Metal gives Claude 24 tools: 23 that read your account, 1 that change something in it.
Two groups: 23 tools that read your firm's data and one that starts a workflow. Tool names stay in English, as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (23)
23 toolsTwenty-three tools that search and open records without touching them.
list_companies
Lists companies using structured filters only, such as sector, tag, team or location, with no free-text query involved.
search_companies
Finds companies by name using a mix of semantic and keyword matching, so a partial or approximate name still surfaces the right record. The matching runs on company names only, not on the rest of the profile.
list_company_tags
Returns the company tags your firm uses, with their exact IDs, so Claude can filter companies on the right tag instead of guessing its spelling.
get_company
Retrieves the full profile of one company from its ID, the record Claude works from once the search has found the right match. It takes the company ID that a search or a filtered list returns.
get_document
Returns the extracted text of a document by line number, which lets Claude quote a passage precisely and point to where it sits.
search_documents
Looks through the content of documents, or lists them by type and date, across what your account can see in Metal.
search_people
Finds contacts by name, title, company or email, so Claude can find the right person among your firm's contacts. It searches your contacts, which are distinct from the Metal users that search_users finds.
search_users
Looks up colleagues who use Metal by name or email. A query is required, so this is for finding someone specific rather than browsing everyone.
get_user
Retrieves one Metal user from an ID, typically after a search or when another record points to that person as an owner. It returns a Metal user, a colleague with an account, not an outside contact.
list_teams
Returns the teams of your organization with names and IDs, which Claude then reuses to filter deals and companies by team. The list covers every team in your organization, not only yours.
get_team
Retrieves a single team from its ID, the step after the team list when Claude needs that team's own record rather than a name. It takes the team ID that list_teams returns.
list_workflows
Lists the workflows Claude can see, with their IDs, page by page. Metal notes that it includes your organization's configured workflows plus visible Metal-provided global ones.
get_workflow
Gives an overview of one workflow's definition, optionally for a given version, including what it expects as input, so nothing is launched with a missing field.
list_workflow_runs
Finds workflow runs filtered by the record they concern, their status or dates, with pagination for long histories. A run can be looked up from the record it concerns, by that record's type and ID.
get_workflow_run
Returns a run's status and outputs, with shortcuts to view steps, errors, artifacts or citations, so Claude can report in plain terms what the workflow produced.
search_deals
Searches or filters deals, with the text query optional when filters are enough, so Claude can answer pipeline questions directly.
get_deal
Pulls up one deal's full record from its ID, once a search has pointed to the right deal. Metal describes it as the full deal record, not an excerpt.
get_person
Retrieves the complete profile of one contact from an ID, after a search has found the right person. It returns a contact record, as opposed to a Metal user account.
list_lists
Returns the lists your organization keeps in Metal so Claude knows which ones exist before opening any. Metal calls them resource lists; their rows come through a separate tool.
get_list
Retrieves a list's metadata and column schema. It does not include the rows themselves; those come from the entries tool, which Claude calls next.
get_list_entries
Reads a list's rows page by page through a cursor, so Claude can work through long lists in successive pages. It is the tool that holds the row data get_list leaves out.
get_activities
Returns the meetings, calls and interactions recorded for a company, so Claude can lay out the history of contact with it. It works at the level of one company.
get_activity
Opens one activity in full, with its participants, linked deals and attached documents, so Claude can recount one interaction in full detail. It takes the ID of a single activity, such as one listed for a company.
What Claude starts (1)
1 toolOne tool that launches a workflow in Metal. No source describes a confirmation specific to it, so the general rule below applies.
run_workflow
Approval: see the ruleLaunches a configured workflow with the input it requires. The response gives the immediate status, the run appears in Metal, and Claude reads the outputs once it completes.
What Claude asks before acting
By default, Claude stops and asks before every action it takes on an account for you. Metal's own guide adds that Claude requests permission to use its tools on first use.
On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners decide whether members may let some actions through without a prompt each time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, keeping reads and closing writes for example, and nobody overrides that from their own account. Metal states that access is scoped to your user and organization and respects your app permissions. The official per-tool label, read-only versus write, only appears in a connected account's settings.
Which plans include it
Not one of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Connector by connector, that answer is published nowhere.
The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector for the organization before members can sign in. Metal's admin switch and your OAuth scopes are separate conditions on Metal's side. For the current state on your account, check the connector's sheet in the official directory.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you; nothing starts when a deal moves stage or a document lands.
Only Metal documents this connector: Claude's help center has no page for it, so the limits below are Metal's. The 24 tools on the sheet are an observed floor: Metal's docs announce 99 tools when the right scopes are granted, including authoring tools for lists, dashboards, workflows and tasks. The directory badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic writes on every sheet that it does not choose a publisher's tools. For other connectors and automation pages, see the Integrations hub.
