Overview

What changes once Claude can reach your fleet

With the connector, you ask Claude in plain words, and Claude queries the MyGeotab database itself, under your own MyGeotab identity and clearances. Geotab says its tools reach any of 51+ supported entity types, and some of them can also create, update or delete records. Eight of the 22 tools on the directory sheet have no description in any official source.

Get the number without building the report. Ask how many devices are registered in the database, and Claude answers with GetCountOf, and pulls the underlying records with Get when you want the list, filtered by date range or field.

Handle faults after the workshop visit. You review the active faults on a vehicle, then ask Claude to acknowledge and dismiss the reviewed faults with DismissFaults.

Set up the fleet from the chat. Creating a zone around a depot or a new driver group goes through Add; renaming a trailer goes through Set; SendReportProcessingRequest queues a scheduled report in Excel or PDF.

Now what Claude will not do. Geotab blocks deleting devices, users, groups, trailers, fuel transactions and several other entities, whatever you ask. Some additions still fail, such as text messages. Eight tools on the sheet are documented nowhere, so nothing can be said about them. FedRAMP databases are not supported. And nothing runs by itself: a speeding event does not wake Claude up. Hands-off rules of that kind belong to an automation tool, which does a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The vocabulary around this connector, in one minute.

Connector
A link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, here MyGeotab, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the tools it needs by itself, and the directory sheet lists all 22 by name.
Authorization
The Geotab sign-in screen where you grant the access Claude will use. Granted once per person, and it can be revoked later.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with something that changes your fleet data, shown in the conversation.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as MyGeotab.
Connect

Connect MyGeotab to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find MyGeotab in Claude

Open Claude's settings, then Customize and Connectors, and look up MyGeotab in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable it before each member can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row and sign in on the Geotab page that opens. If the link breaks later, Disconnect and connect again; Geotab adds that access can also be revoked from your Unified Login settings.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Check what Geotab asks for before you accept. That screen belongs to Geotab, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. Every call then runs under your own MyGeotab identity and clearances.

Tools

The 22 tools, split by what they do

MyGeotab MCP gives Claude 22 tools: 8 that read your account, 6 that change something in it, and 8 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it changes, and what no official source describes. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

  • 8 not documented

What Claude reads (8)

8 tools

Eight tools that query your fleet data and leave it as it is.

DecodeVins

Turns one or more vehicle identification numbers into make, model and year, in a single call.

When it helps
you have a list of VINs and want make, model and year for each one without looking them up separately.
Watch out
Geotab describes the result as make, model and year only.

Get

Queries any of the 51+ supported entity types, with filters, date ranges and a choice of fields.

When it helps
you want the records of one entity type for a date range, with only the fields you need.
Watch out
MyGeotab rate limits apply and come back to Claude as structured errors, per Geotab.

GetAceResults

Puts a plain-language analytical question to Geotab Ace, Geotab's own AI, and brings back its insight on your fleet data.

When it helps
you have an analytical question about your fleet data and want to ask it in plain words instead of building the query.
Watch out
Geotab says Ace requires additional permissions on your account.

GetCountOf

Returns how many records of a given type exist rather than the records themselves, rather than a list.

When it helps
Geotab's own example, how many devices are registered in your MyGeotab database.
Watch out
the count covers only what your own MyGeotab clearances let you see.

GetEmissionComplianceDeadline

Looks up emission compliance deadlines by jurisdiction.

When it helps
your vehicles run in several jurisdictions and you want to compare their emission compliance deadlines.
Watch out
Geotab gives this one line and nothing more; which jurisdictions are covered is not documented.

Sourcesupport.geotab.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

GetHosRuleSets

Lists the Hours of Service rule sets available for configuring driver compliance.

When it helps
you want to see which rule sets exist before configuring driver compliance.
Watch out
Geotab describes listing the rule sets, not assigning one to a driver.

Sourcesupport.geotab.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

GetPostedRoadSpeedsForDevice

Retrieves the historical posted speed limits along the path a device travelled.

When it helps
you want the posted speed limits along the route one vehicle actually drove.
Watch out
the data comes live from the MyGeotab API, and Geotab says its server keeps no copy of your fleet records.

ListEntities

Shows the full set of entity types your database supports through the connector, useful before asking for records of a type you are not sure exists.

When it helps
you want to know what can be queried at all before asking for records.

Undocumented (8)

8 tools

The directory publishes these eight names. Geotab's pages either skip them or only list them as blocked, so we do not describe what they do.

DownloadMediaFile

Geotab's limitations article mentions this name only to say it is blocked for now, next to its upload counterpart. No source says what it would do once unblocked, so this page does not guess, and the general approval rule below is all that covers it.

GetDevicesInformation

The directory lists this tool by name, yet neither Geotab's developer page nor its two support articles say a word about it. No source documents it, so this page cannot tell you which group it belongs to, and only the default approval rule applies.

GetEntity

Only the name of this one is public. No source describes it: Geotab's capability table and its limitations list are silent, and Anthropic publishes nothing either. Treat it as unknown territory; the approval rule further down is the only thing that frames it.

GetMediaUrl

This tool appears on the sheet and in no Geotab or Anthropic text we could read. Nothing sourced tells us its purpose or its effect on your data, so this page leaves it undescribed and points to the general approval rule.

GetSkill

A bare name in the directory list. Geotab documents a long series of methods, but not this one, and no official page explains it. Until a source does, its group stays undetermined and the default approval rule is what applies.

SearchMedia

Neither of Geotab's support articles nor its developer page covers this name, and Anthropic adds nothing. We have no sourced sentence to go on, so its effect is undocumented here, and the approval rule below is the only frame you can rely on for now.

SubmitFeedback

On the sheet, missing from every source we read. Not one Geotab page and no Anthropic text attaches a description to this name, so nothing about its effect can be stated here. The general approval rule further down is what covers it until a source appears.

UploadMediaFile

Geotab names it once, in its limitations list, as blocked for now alongside the download tool. Beyond that status, no official text describes it, so this page makes no claim about it and refers you to the default approval rule.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before an action it takes on an account for someone. With six tools able to create, change, delete or trigger things in MyGeotab, that default matters here.

No source ties a specific confirmation to any MyGeotab tool, so the general rule is what applies. On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without being asked again, and they can restrict a connector for the whole organization, for example keeping reads and closing writes. Nobody overrides that from a personal account. Geotab adds its own ceiling: every call runs under your MyGeotab identity and clearances, and the server cannot return data your account is not allowed to see.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory states plan availability. For MyGeotab, as for every other connector, that answer is published nowhere.

The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can each connect. Separately, Geotab says the server is included at no extra cost with its GO Plan, a Geotab fleet subscription, not a Claude plan. For the live state, check the connector's sheet in the official directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing fires when a vehicle speeds, idles or throws a fault.

This connector is documented by its publisher only: no Claude help article covers it, and the facts above come from the directory sheet and three Geotab pages. The verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it neither picks a publisher's tools nor guarantees their behaviour. Geotab also says its server keeps no copies of your fleet records and that MyGeotab rate limits pass straight through as errors. Other connectors reviewed the same way sit in the Claude connectors hub.

Two official sources disagree

Do you add MyGeotab from the directory or as a custom connector?

  • Geotab developer page ↗UndatedTells Claude users to open the connector settings, choose to add a custom connector and paste the MyGeotab server address. It adds that on Team and Enterprise only administrators can add connectors.
  • Geotab support article, Getting started ↗UndatedStates that the MyGeotab server is already pre-configured within Claude and points to Claude's connector settings to add it.

What this page followsBoth Geotab pages are undated and describe two routes. MyGeotab is listed in Claude's official directory, so the directory route is what Claude shows today; the server address still works for a custom connector. We do not call either page out of date.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude MyGeotab connector

01What can Claude do with the MyGeotab connector?
Claude can query your fleet data and act on parts of it from the conversation. The documented reading tools get or count records across 51+ entity types, decode VINs, list HOS rule sets, fetch posted road speeds, check emission deadlines, list entity types and ask Geotab Ace. The writing tools create, update or delete entities, dismiss faults, enroll vehicles in emission programs and queue reports. Eight more tools on the sheet are described by no official source.
02Can Claude create, change or delete things in MyGeotab?
Yes, six documented tools change your database. They create entities such as zones, groups or rules, update existing ones, delete some of them, dismiss reviewed faults, enroll vehicles in emission programs and queue scheduled reports. Geotab draws hard lines, though: deleting devices, users, groups, trailers, fuel transactions and several other entities is blocked, and a few additions such as text messages to drivers still fail. Every call runs under your own MyGeotab clearances.
03Does Claude ask before it changes my fleet data?
By default, yes: Claude asks for confirmation before an action it takes on an account for someone. No source describes a confirmation specific to any MyGeotab tool, so that general rule covers creating, updating, deleting, dismissing faults and queuing reports. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may skip the prompt for some actions and can restrict the connector so that only reading stays open for the whole organization.
04Which Claude plans is the MyGeotab connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability for this connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets does it for any connector. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and that on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector before members connect. Geotab adds that the server comes with its own GO Plan, a Geotab subscription and not a Claude plan. The directory sheet shows the live state.
05Does Claude see every vehicle and driver in MyGeotab?
Only what your own account can see. Geotab says every call executes under your MyGeotab user identity and security clearances, and the server cannot return data your account is not authorized to view. Geotab adds that it does not store copies of your fleet records and that activity appears in the MyGeotab AuditLog where applicable. On Team and Enterprise, an owner can also restrict what the connector may do for the whole organization.
06Why can't I connect MyGeotab to Claude?
One documented cause: your user has not been migrated to Geotab Unified Login, which Geotab requires before any connection. Most users can turn it on themselves from the Profile page in MyGeotab and follow the prompts. Accounts that sign in through SAML single sign-on cannot connect directly: Geotab suggests a Basic Authentication account migrated to Unified Login, or talking to your Geotab account team about migrating the database. Check the migration first, then try the connection again.
07Claude or an automation tool for MyGeotab?
They serve different moments. Claude with this connector answers questions and makes changes while you talk to it: count registered devices, check a truck's faults, create a zone, queue a report. It never acts on its own. An automation tool is for steps that must run unattended when an event happens, such as alerting someone each time a vehicle enters a zone. Neither one is better in general; they do different jobs.
