Claude Tella connectorWhat Claude can do in your Tella account.

The Claude Tella connector exposes 98 tools. 30 read your library, 66 edit or organise it (cuts, layouts, zooms, overlays, playlists, exports), and 2 are documented nowhere. Below: what Claude can see, what it changes, and where it stops.

Verified Trustpilot reviews · AI, automation & growth agency

Overview

What it changes for people who record demos and tutorials

Instead of opening the Tella editor to trim a pause, move a camera bubble or add a zoom, you tell Claude what you want. It reads the video's timeline and transcript, then applies the edits through Tella's own tools. Most of the list changes your videos, so this connector is an editor, not just a viewer.

Clean a recording in one request. get_transcript shows what is said, cut_clip_by_transcript removes a sentence by pointing at its words, and remove_fillers strips the ums. For several changes at once, apply_video_edits bundles them into one revision.

Make a screen demo readable. generate_auto_zooms follows the mouse clicks, add_blur hides a customer's details, and add_text_overlay names the speaker.

Keep the library tidy. search_videos finds a recording by what was said in it, add_video_to_playlist files it, and export_video produces the file for a client.

What it will not do: nothing happens without a request. No tool reacts when a recording ends or a viewer watches. Two listed tools, get_clip_thumbnail and get_video_thumbnail, have no description anywhere. Tella's documentation also mentions social publishing and analytics tools that do not appear on the directory sheet, so this page leaves them out. For event-driven workflows, an automation tool does a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while plugging Tella in.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already use, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named action the connector hands to Claude. Claude picks the ones it needs; the directory sheet lists every tool by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you grant Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and revocable later.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before completing something that changes your account, shown in the chat at the right moment.
MCP
The shared standard behind connectors; it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Plug Tella into Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Tella in Claude

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Tella in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector first, so each member can then sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in to Tella in the window Tella opens itself. If the link stops working one day, use Disconnect and connect it again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Go through Tella's authorization screen before accepting. It is Tella's screen, not Claude's, and it sets what the access covers. You can withdraw that access later from your Tella account too.

Tools

The 98 tools, sorted by what they do

Tella gives Claude 98 tools: 30 that read your account, 66 that change something in it, and 2 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it changes, and what no official source describes. Names stay as Claude shows them, in English.

  • 30 read
  • 66 write
  • 2 not documented

What Claude reads (30)

30 tools

Thirty tools that consult videos, clips, transcripts, playlists and settings without changing anything.

get_captions_file

Hands back a video's finished captions as an SRT or WebVTT file with the file name and its text content.

When it helps
you are uploading a tutorial to a course platform that wants a separate subtitle file next to the video.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_chapters

Lists every chapter set on a video, in timestamp order, so Claude can show you how the recording is split and where each part starts.

When it helps
before a long product walkthrough goes to a client, you want to check that the chapter titles and timings make sense.
Watch out
it reads chapters; replacing them is a separate tool, set_chapters.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_clip

Returns the details of a single clip, one of the recorded segments a Tella video is built from.

When it helps
a colleague says the third segment of the demo feels off and you want to see how that clip is set up.
Watch out
it covers one clip; get_timeline gives the whole video at a glance.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_export_status

Reports where an export stands and how far it has gone, and exposes the download link once the file is ready.

When it helps
you asked for an export ten minutes ago and want to know whether the file can be sent to the client yet.
Watch out
Tella says to keep checking until the export shows completed or failed.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_mouse_events

Reads the mouse movements and clicks recorded in a clip's screen capture. Clicks are always kept, pointer paths are sampled, and anything in cut-out footage is dropped.

When it helps
you want to understand where a presenter clicked before deciding where zooms would help.
Watch out
camera-only clips, uploads and recordings from older recorder versions return an empty list.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_playlist

Opens a playlist with its details. Outside your workspace, it only works for a playlist that has an ungated public link.

When it helps
a partner shared a playlist link and you want to know what it contains before your team looks at it.
Watch out
a playlist behind a gated link stays closed to you from outside the workspace.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_silences

Detects silent stretches in a clip's audio, measured on the playback timeline with cuts applied, ready to be passed to a cut.

When it helps
a recorded webinar drags and you want to see where the dead air is before deciding what should go.
Watch out
silences already removed by cuts are not reported again.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_source_thumbnail

Returns a still image of one source recording, or a link to a short animated preview, for a source on a clip or one not yet placed in a video.

When it helps
you have several camera takes uploaded and want to see which is which before choosing.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_source_waveform

Returns the waveform of a source recording's audio track, the visual shape of its volume over time, for a source on a clip or one not yet placed.

When it helps
you suspect the mic dropped out halfway through a take and want Claude to spot the flat part.
Watch out
it describes the sound, it does not fix it.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_timeline

Gives an ordered outline of a video's full timeline in one call: every clip, its position and playback length, and counts of its cuts, layouts, effects and overlays. Tella calls it the place to start.

When it helps
you open an old video before reworking it and want a map of what is on it.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_transcript

Returns the transcript of a clip as the viewer hears it, cuts applied, with stable word numbers that other tools point to.

When it helps
you want Claude to find where the speaker mentions pricing so you can decide whether to keep that passage.
Watch out
words already cut out do not appear; Tella says to clear the cuts first to see them.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_video

Returns a video's information, with summary fields by default and more on request. It can also read a video outside your workspace if it has an ungated public link.

When it helps
a client shares a Tella link and asks what is in it before a meeting.
Watch out
from outside your workspace, a gated link does not open this way.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_backgrounds

Lists the backgrounds you can apply to a clip, grouped in named categories, each with a preview image and a descriptive name.

When it helps
you want the same branded background as your other videos and need its exact name before you ask for it.
Watch out
built-in names match the ones shown in Tella's editor, which helps when you describe what you want.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_blurs

Lists the blur masks placed on a clip, the areas hidden from view.

When it helps
before sharing a screen recording externally, you check that every customer email on screen is covered.
Watch out
it covers one clip at a time, so a long video means several calls.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_clips

Lists the clips of a video in the order they play, the building blocks the other tools refer to.

When it helps
you want to know how many segments a long recording has before any rework.
Watch out
for counts of effects and cuts per clip, get_timeline goes further.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_highlights

Lists the highlight masks on a clip, the areas drawn to the viewer's attention.

When it helps
a reviewer says the focus jumps around too often and you want to see every highlight in that segment.
Watch out
blurs sit in their own list, list_blurs.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_layouts

Lists the layouts on a clip, including the base one spanning the whole clip, with the portion of the screen recording each one shows.

When it helps
you want to know when the camera bubble appears and disappears in a clip.
Watch out
custom layouts report their geometry as custom rather than a named preset.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_library

Lists placeable media for one scope, Tella's curated library among them. Media still being generated is left out.

When it helps
you need the identifier of a stock sound effect before asking Claude to place it on a clip.
Watch out
an item that is still being generated will only show up once it is ready.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_overlays

Lists the image and video overlays on a clip with their stacking position, from back to front.

When it helps
a logo is hidden behind something and you want to know which overlay sits on top.
Watch out
animated Lottie overlays share the stack but are not listed, so positions can skip a number.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_playlist_groups

Lists the sidebar groups that organise playlists. Personal groups are yours alone; org groups are shared with the workspace.

When it helps
you are tidying the sidebar and want to see which groups already exist before sorting new playlists.
Watch out
personal groups of your colleagues stay invisible to you.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_playlists

Lists all the playlists in your workspace.

When it helps
you want to know whether an onboarding playlist already exists before starting a new one from scratch, so the team does not end up with two.
Watch out
to open one of them with its details, get_playlist is the next step.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_sound_effects

Lists the sound effects placed on a clip.

When it helps
a viewer found the demo too noisy and you want to count the effects in that clip before deciding which ones go.
Watch out
it lists what is on the clip, not the library of sounds you could add.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_sources

Lists the recordings a clip was cut from (camera, screen, mic), each with its own volume setting and the volume that actually plays.

When it helps
the voice sounds quieter in one segment and you want to see which track's volume differs.
Watch out
a null volume means the clip inherits the default rather than overriding it.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_tags

Lists every tag you can see: the workspace's shared tags plus your private ones. It takes no parameters at all.

When it helps
before tagging a batch of videos, you check which labels your team already uses so you do not invent a near-duplicate.
Watch out
private tags of your colleagues are not part of the answer.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_text_overlays

Lists the text overlays on a clip with their stacking position, from back to front.

When it helps
you want to review every on-screen caption in a sales video ahead of new pricing.
Watch out
image and video overlays sit in list_overlays, not here, and Lottie animations are not listed.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_video_tags

Lists the tags on one video that are visible to you, shared ones and your private ones.

When it helps
you want to check how a video is categorised before filing it in a playlist.
Watch out
tags a colleague set as private will not appear in your answer.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_videos

Returns every video in your workspace, page by page, as the starting inventory for most questions about your library.

When it helps
you want an inventory of recent recordings before a quarterly clean-up.
Watch out
to find one video by what is said in it, search_videos is faster.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_webhooks

Lists your webhook subscriptions, meaning the addresses Tella notifies when something happens in your workspace, page by page.

When it helps
a developer asks which endpoints Tella currently notifies during an audit.
Watch out
it reads the subscriptions; it does not show the notifications that were sent.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_zooms

Lists the zooms placed on a clip.

When it helps
the result feels jumpy and you want to see how many zooms were added to that segment.
Watch out
only one clip is read per call, so a video made of many segments needs one call for each.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

search_videos

Searches your video library by title or by what is said in the indexed transcript, and returns snippets with the matching words.

When it helps
you remember a colleague explaining the refund policy in some recording but not which one.
Watch out
title matches come before transcript matches unless you restrict the search.

What Claude changes (66)

66 tools

Sixty-six tools that edit, organise, upload, export or delete. No source describes a confirmation specific to any of them: the general rule below applies.

add_blur

Approval: see the rule

Places a blur mask on a clip to hide part of the image.

What Claude asks for
no confirmation specific to this tool is documented; the general approval rule further down applies.
When it helps
a customer's name shows on screen in a support demo and must not reach the public version.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_collaborator_to_video

Approval: see the rule

Adds a collaborator to a video. The person must already be a member of your workspace.

What Claude asks for
like any change, it falls under the default approval rule; Tella describes no extra step.
When it helps
a teammate needs to polish the edit you started this morning.
Watch out
someone outside the workspace cannot be added this way.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_highlight

Approval: see the rule

Places a highlight mask on a clip to draw the eye to one area of the screen.

What Claude asks for
the approvals section below covers it, since nothing specific is published for this tool.
When it helps
you want viewers to notice the new button in a feature announcement.
Watch out
too many highlights in a row make a video tiring to follow.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_layout

Approval: see the rule

Adds a layout to a clip, over a time range or across the whole clip. With a range and a piece of media, it becomes b-roll (cutaway footage over the main recording).

What Claude asks for
approval follows Claude's usual rule; Tella adds no dedicated prompt.
When it helps
you want the camera full screen during the intro, then the screen recording for the demo part.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_library_item

Approval: see the rule

Saves an uploaded source into your library so it can be reused across videos. The file has to be uploaded first through create_source.

What Claude asks for
the standard confirmation applies; the sources describe nothing more precise.
When it helps
you uploaded a new logo animation and want it available for every future video.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_overlay

Approval: see the rule

Adds an image or video overlay on top of a clip, from a file uploaded beforehand.

What Claude asks for
covered by the default approval rule, with no tool-specific prompt.
When it helps
you want your company logo in a corner of every clip of a recruiting video.
Watch out
the upload through create_source comes first; the overlay type follows the file's kind.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_sound_effect

Approval: see the rule

Adds a sound effect to a clip, from Tella's curated library or from your own audio file.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a separate check; Claude sticks to its usual approval behaviour.
When it helps
a whoosh on each transition would make a product teaser feel livelier.
Watch out
a curated effect needs no upload; your own audio does, through create_source.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_text_overlay

Approval: see the rule

Adds a text overlay on top of a clip, for a name, a title or a short caption.

What Claude asks for
Claude relies on the default confirmation; Tella documents none of its own.
When it helps
you want the speaker's name and role shown during the first seconds of an interview.
Watch out
its layer position matters if other overlays already sit on the clip.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_video_tag

Approval: see the rule

Tags a video. It needs edit access to the video; a private tag only affects your own library.

What Claude asks for
expect the usual confirmation; nothing tool-specific is written.
When it helps
after a series of customer interviews, you want them all under the same label.
Watch out
the tag has to exist; create_tag makes a new one.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_video_to_playlist

Approval: see the rule

Puts a video into a playlist, next to the ones already there.

What Claude asks for
this change sits under the same default approval logic as the other writes.
When it helps
a new tutorial belongs in the onboarding playlist that new hires watch in their first week.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

add_zoom

Approval: see the rule

Adds a zoom to a clip, enlarging one area of the screen for a moment.

What Claude asks for
no dedicated step is described, so the general approval rule is what applies.
When it helps
a dropdown in the demo is too small to read at normal size.
Watch out
for a zoom on every click, generate_auto_zooms saves the manual work.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

apply_video_edits

Approval: see the rule

Applies up to 200 mixed timeline edits across the clips of one video in a single call, validated as a whole and saved as one editor revision.

What Claude asks for
the default approval rule applies to the call; no source describes a check per operation.
When it helps
you ask Claude to trim silences, add three zooms and a blur in one go instead of step by step.
Watch out
Tella recommends it whenever two or more timeline edits are needed, since it is much faster.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

auto_crop

Approval: see the rule

Crops a clip's screen recording automatically, based on what is visible at a chosen frame, and reports the crop applied and how confident it is.

What Claude asks for
the general confirmation applies; nothing more specific is published.
When it helps
a recording captured a whole wide monitor when only one browser window mattered.
Watch out
check the reported confidence; the crop depends on the frame you picked.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

create_playlist

Approval: see the rule

Creates a new playlist in your workspace.

What Claude asks for
it goes through the default approval rule, like every write on this page.
When it helps
you want a playlist gathering the release videos of the quarter for the sales team.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

create_playlist_group

Approval: see the rule

Creates a sidebar group to organise playlists into, personal or shared.

What Claude asks for
the publisher lists no dedicated prompt for it; the general rule stands.
When it helps
your sidebar has twenty playlists and you want them grouped by department.
Watch out
a playlist can only join a group with the same visibility.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

create_source

Approval: see the rule

Prepares a new upload: Tella returns an identifier and a temporary address to send the file bytes to.

What Claude asks for
the approvals section applies; no specific step exists for uploads.
When it helps
you want to add an image or a video file that other tools will then place.
Watch out
the upload address expires after 1 hour.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

create_tag

Approval: see the rule

Creates a tag for sorting videos. Without a colour, Tella derives one from the name.

What Claude asks for
nothing beyond the ordinary approval behaviour is described for tag creation.
When it helps
a new product line launches and its videos need their own label.
Watch out
check list_tags first; a near-duplicate label splits your library in two.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

create_video

Approval: see the rule

Turns an uploaded video file into a new Tella video, which becomes its first clip.

What Claude asks for
the usual confirmation from the approvals block covers it.
When it helps
an external agency sent a finished clip and you want it inside Tella to add captions and chapters.
Watch out
the file has to be uploaded through create_source beforehand.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

cut_clip

Approval: see the rule

Cuts one or several time ranges out of a clip in a single call; overlapping ranges merge with existing cuts.

What Claude asks for
default approval rule; no tool-specific confirmation is published.
When it helps
the first twelve seconds of a recording are you adjusting the mic.
Watch out
to undo all cuts, Tella points to update_clip with an empty cut list.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

cut_clip_by_transcript

Approval: see the rule

Cuts ranges from a clip by pointing at word numbers in the transcript; Tella works out the exact timings.

What Claude asks for
Claude follows the general approval rule here too.
When it helps
you want the sentence where the speaker quoted an outdated price removed, word for word.
Watch out
no padding is added around the words, so the cut is tight.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

delete_clip

Approval: see the rule

Removes a clip from its video, taking that whole segment out of the edit.

What Claude asks for
Tella publishes no stronger safeguard than Claude's standard approval.
When it helps
a false start at the beginning of a recording should disappear entirely.
Watch out
to hide a few seconds rather than a whole segment, a cut is gentler.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

delete_playlist

Approval: see the rule

Deletes a playlist from your workspace.

What Claude asks for
nothing specific is documented, so expect the confirmation Claude asks for by default.
When it helps
an event is over and its playlist only clutters the sidebar.
Watch out
to take just one video out, remove_video_from_playlist is the lighter move.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

delete_playlist_group

Approval: see the rule

Removes a sidebar group of playlists. The playlists inside are kept and simply become ungrouped in the sidebar.

What Claude asks for
deletion of a group follows the same default approval rule as any write.
When it helps
a reorganisation made one sidebar group pointless.
Watch out
the playlists survive, but you may want to regroup them afterwards.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

delete_tag

Approval: see the rule

Permanently deletes a tag and removes it from every video that carries it.

What Claude asks for
a dedicated prompt is not published; Claude's default confirmation is what you get.
When it helps
two tags mean the same thing and you want only one left.
Watch out
Tella says the deletion is permanent and affects all videos carrying the tag.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

delete_video

Approval: see the rule

Deletes a video by moving it to the trash rather than erasing it outright.

What Claude asks for
like any other write, it is covered by the default confirmation.
When it helps
a duplicate upload sits next to the real recording and confuses the team.
Watch out
Tella describes it as a move to the trash.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

duplicate_clip

Approval: see the rule

Duplicates a clip; the copy lands right after the original by default.

What Claude asks for
Claude applies the approvals section below; no extra check is documented.
When it helps
you want to try a different cut of a segment without losing the current one.
Watch out
the copy counts in the video's length until you remove one of the two.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

duplicate_video

Approval: see the rule

Copies a video, optionally keeping only a time range or one chapter, and returns the new copy's links.

What Claude asks for
copying a video falls under the general approval rule described further down.
When it helps
you want a short teaser made from the second chapter of a long webinar.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

export_video

Approval: see the rule

Starts a video export; the export is then followed with get_export_status until it completes.

What Claude asks for
no confirmation specific to exports is documented; the general rule applies.
When it helps
the client wants the finished video as a downloadable file.
Watch out
the file is not ready at once; the download link appears only when the export completes.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

generate_auto_layouts

Approval: see the rule

Lets Tella's AI watch a clip and lay it out, like the editor's Auto layouts: it picks a style, sets the base layout and adds layout changes over time.

What Claude asks for
it follows the general approval rule; nothing extra is documented.
When it helps
you recorded a quick talking-head demo and want a polished layout without placing each switch by hand.
Watch out
it watches the actual video, so it can take a while.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

generate_auto_zooms

Approval: see the rule

Builds tracking zooms from the mouse clicks in a clip's screen recording, like the editor's Generate zooms; nearby zooms are merged.

What Claude asks for
like other writes, it relies on the default confirmation.
When it helps
a software tutorial needs the viewer's eye pulled to every click.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

move_playlist_to_group

Approval: see the rule

Moves a playlist into a group, or out of it. Visibility has to match: shared playlists go into shared groups, personal ones into personal groups.

What Claude asks for
moving a playlist is governed by the general approval rule.
When it helps
a new playlist should sit with the other customer-education ones.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_background_music

Approval: see the rule

Removes the background music track of a video, leaving the voices and effects in place.

What Claude asks for
nothing tool-specific is published, so Claude falls back on its default approval rule.
When it helps
the music clashes with a voice-over added later.
Watch out
to swap the track rather than drop it, set_background_music replaces it.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_blur

Approval: see the rule

Removes a blur from a clip, revealing the area it covered.

What Claude asks for
no specific step is documented for removing a blur, so the approvals section holds.
When it helps
the hidden information is now public and the blur only makes the video look odd.
Watch out
double-check nothing sensitive sits under it before it goes.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_collaborator_from_video

Approval: see the rule

Removes a collaborator from a video, ending their access to that recording.

What Claude asks for
expect the general confirmation described below before a collaborator is removed.
When it helps
a freelancer's contract ended and they should no longer edit the recording.
Watch out
it acts on one video; other videos they work on are untouched.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_fillers

Approval: see the rule

Detects filler words such as um and uh in a clip's transcript and cuts them out.

What Claude asks for
filler removal runs under the default approval rule.
When it helps
a nervous speaker's demo is full of hesitations you want gone.
Watch out
it relies on the transcript, so check the result on key sentences.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_highlight

Approval: see the rule

Removes a highlight from a clip.

What Claude asks for
the general rule covers highlight removal; nothing more precise is published.
When it helps
a highlight now points at a button that moved in the latest version of your app.
Watch out
other highlights on the same clip stay where they are.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_layout

Approval: see the rule

Removes a layout from a clip, except the base one, which is changed through update_layout instead.

What Claude asks for
Claude uses its default confirmation for this edit.
When it helps
a camera bubble added over a detailed diagram hides what matters.
Watch out
the base layout that spans the clip cannot be removed this way.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_library_item

Approval: see the rule

Removes an item from your library. Clips already using that media keep working.

What Claude asks for
library removals fall under the general approval rule, with no dedicated prompt.
When it helps
an old logo should no longer be offered to the team.
Watch out
it removes the library entry only, not the media already placed in videos.

remove_overlay

Approval: see the rule

Removes an image or video overlay from a clip.

What Claude asks for
the default rule applies to this removal as to any other.
When it helps
the promo banner overlaid on a video refers to an offer that has ended.
Watch out
text overlays have their own removal tool, remove_text_overlay.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_silences

Approval: see the rule

Detects silent pauses in a clip's audio and cuts them, like the editor's Remove silences tool.

What Claude asks for
approval for this one follows the general rule.
When it helps
a screen tutorial has long pauses while the presenter waits for pages to load.
Watch out
check the pacing afterwards; a pause can be deliberate.

remove_sound_effect

Approval: see the rule

Removes a sound effect from a clip, leaving the rest of the audio untouched.

What Claude asks for
the approvals section below applies to sound removals too.
When it helps
the effect on the intro sounds cheap next to your new brand music.
Watch out
background music is handled separately, with remove_background_music.

remove_text_overlay

Approval: see the rule

Removes a text overlay from a clip, such as a caption or a name tag.

What Claude asks for
removing on-screen text is covered by the default approval rule.
When it helps
a caption shows a job title the speaker no longer holds.
Watch out
image and video overlays are removed with remove_overlay instead.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_video_from_playlist

Approval: see the rule

Takes a video out of a playlist without touching the video itself.

What Claude asks for
expect the usual confirmation before the playlist changes.
When it helps

Watch out
the video stays in your library; only its place in the playlist goes.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_video_tag

Approval: see the rule

What Claude asks for
untagging goes through the ordinary approval flow; nothing extra is described.
When it helps

Watch out
the tag itself stays available for other videos.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_video_thumbnail

Approval: see the rule

Removes a video's custom thumbnail, uploaded image or picked frame, and goes back to the automatic one.

What Claude asks for

When it helps
the custom cover shows an old interface and the auto-generated one is better.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

remove_zoom

Approval: see the rule

Removes a zoom from a clip.

What Claude asks for
the general rule governs this edit, as no dedicated prompt exists.

Watch out
other zooms on the clip stay in place.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

reorder_clip

Approval: see the rule

Moves a clip to a new position; the other clips shift so the video stays continuous.

What Claude asks for
reordering follows Claude's default approval behaviour.
When it helps

Watch out
transitions between clips may need a check after the move.

set_background_music

Approval: see the rule

Sets or replaces a video's background music, from Tella's curated tracks or from your own audio.

What Claude asks for
the approvals section covers it; Tella adds nothing specific.
When it helps

Watch out
a curated track needs no upload; your own file goes through create_source first.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

set_chapters

Approval: see the rule

Replaces every chapter of a video with the list you give. An empty list clears them all.

What Claude asks for
replacing chapters is handled by the general approval rule.
When it helps
you want chapters matching the agenda of a recorded webinar.
Watch out
it replaces the whole set, so existing chapters you do not repeat will be lost.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

set_video_thumbnail

Approval: see the rule

Sets a video's thumbnail, either from an uploaded image or from a frame picked in the video itself.

What Claude asks for
default confirmation, as for any change made on your behalf.

Watch out
the two modes are mutually exclusive: an image or a frame, not both.

update_blur

Approval: see the rule

Changes an existing blur.

What Claude asks for
the general approval rule applies to this edit.

Approval: see the rule

Changes a clip's settings: name, order, cuts, background, transition, audio volumes, cursor animation or frame style.

What Claude asks for
approval under the default rule; no clip-specific prompt is documented.
When it helps

Watch out
sending an empty cut list clears every cut on the clip.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_collaborator_on_video

Approval: see the rule

Changes a collaborator's role on a video.

What Claude asks for
expect the general confirmation before a role changes.

Adjusts a highlight already on a clip.

What Claude asks for
timing changes like this follow the default approval rule.

Watch out
it edits one highlight; others on the clip are untouched.

update_layout

Approval: see the rule

Changes a layout on a clip, including the base one; only the fields you give change.

What Claude asks for
covered by the approvals section, with nothing layout-specific.

update_overlay

Approval: see the rule

Edits an image or video overlay already placed; only the fields given are touched.

What Claude asks for
general rule, nothing tool-specific published.

Watch out
text overlays are edited with update_text_overlay instead.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_playlist

Approval: see the rule

Changes a playlist's information and settings.

What Claude asks for
playlist edits rely on the standard approval flow.
When it helps
the playlist description still mentions last year's product name.
Watch out
sidebar groups are edited with update_playlist_group, not with this tool.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_playlist_group

Approval: see the rule

Renames a playlist group, changes its icon or moves it within its sidebar section.

What Claude asks for
it goes through the usual confirmation for any change.

Watch out
shared groups change for the whole workspace, not only for you.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_sound_effect

Approval: see the rule

Tweaks a sound effect already on the clip; fields you leave out stay as they are.

What Claude asks for
under the general approval rule, with no specific prompt.

Watch out
to replace the sound itself, remove it and add another.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_tag

Approval: see the rule

Changes a tag's name, colour or description. Private tags can only be changed by their creator.

What Claude asks for
the default rule covers tag edits.

Watch out
renaming a shared tag changes it for the whole workspace.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_text_overlay

Approval: see the rule

Rewrites or restyles a text overlay: its wording, font, colours, timing, position, size, transition or depth.

What Claude asks for
approval follows the general rule for text edits too.
When it helps
the speaker's title contains a typo spotted by a client.
Watch out
depth decides whether it sits above or below other overlays.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_transcript_words

Approval: see the rule

Fixes what the transcript says, word by word: correct a spelling, or hide a word from captions and subtitles.

What Claude asks for
transcript corrections sit under the default approval behaviour.
When it helps
the transcript turned your product's name into a common word throughout the captions.
Watch out
it points at word numbers from get_transcript, so read that first.

Sourcetella.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

update_video

Approval: see the rule

What Claude asks for
editing video settings goes through the default approval rule.

Changes a webhook subscription's address, event filters or whether it is paused.

What Claude asks for
webhook changes fall under the general approval rule.

Watch out
at least one of the three settings has to be given.

Approval: see the rule

Adds a new clip to a video from an uploaded file, next to the existing segments.

What Claude asks for
the general rule covers it; no specific step is described.
When it helps
you recorded a missing explanation separately and want it inserted into the tutorial.
Watch out
like create_video, it needs the file sent through create_source beforehand.

Undocumented (2)

2 tools

The directory publishes these two names and nothing else. No official text says what they do, and this page will not infer it from a name.

get_clip_thumbnail

This name appears on the directory sheet, and no official source describes it: Tella's tool reference read in September 2026 has no entry for it. This page will not guess from the name.

Watch out
whatever it does, it stays under the general approval rule.

get_video_thumbnail

Listed by the directory, undocumented everywhere else: no page of Tella's reference read in September 2026 mentions it, and no Claude help article describes it either.

Watch out
nothing is claimed here about what it returns; the default approval rule applies to it.
Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before any action it takes on an account for you. The prompt shows up in the chat, at the moment it matters.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also cap what a connector may do for the whole organization, for instance reading allowed and writing closed, and nobody lifts that from their own account. On Tella's side, most tools use your own Tella permissions: you only reach videos and playlists in workspaces you belong to. A few reading tools can also open a video outside your workspace when it has an ungated public link.

Plans

Which plans it is available on

Of the 819 sheets in the official directory, none shows availability per plan. The per-connector answer is published nowhere, which is a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to every user on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members can sign in. For the current state, the connector's sheet in the official directory is the place to check. Tella is documented only by its publisher: no Claude help article covers it.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts by itself when a recording finishes or a video gets a view.

The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise: an administrator can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it neither chooses a publisher's tools nor guarantees their behaviour. Tella's own reference is also broader than the directory sheet, with tools the sheet does not list. For a connector centred on data rather than video, see the Claude airtable connector.

FAQ

FAQ about the Claude Tella connector

01What can Claude do with the Tella connector?
Claude can find, read and edit your Tella videos from the chat. The ninety-eight listed tools cover reading timelines, transcripts, chapters and captions, searching the library by title or spoken words, cutting and reordering clips, removing silences and filler words, adding layouts, zooms, blurs, highlights, overlays, sound and music, managing playlists, tags and collaborators, uploading files and exporting videos. Two tools have no official description at all, so this page says nothing about them.
02Can Claude edit, send or delete things in Tella?
Yes. Sixty-six tools change your account: they cut, reorder and duplicate clips, add or remove visual effects and audio, set chapters and thumbnails, fix transcript words, manage playlists, tags and collaborators, upload files, start exports and delete clips, playlists, tags or videos. Deleting a video moves it to the trash, while deleting a tag is permanent. Tella's documentation mentions social publishing tools, but they are not on the directory sheet.
03Does Claude ask before editing my videos?
By default, yes: Claude asks for confirmation before any action it takes on an account for you. No source describes a confirmation specific to one Tella tool, so this default rule covers every edit, deletion and export. Watch the batch tool in particular: a single call can carry up to 200 timeline operations. On Team or Enterprise, owners decide whether members can let actions through and can close writing for everyone.
04Which Claude plans is it available on?
No official source publishes availability plan by plan for each connector, and no directory sheet shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to every user on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only place that shows the current state for your own account. Tella itself documents the connector, with no Claude help article.
05Does Claude see every video in our Tella workspace?
Claude uses your Tella permissions, so it reaches the videos and playlists of the workspaces you belong to, and no others. A handful of reading tools can also open a video outside your workspace if it has an ungated public link; a password, email gate or private link still blocks it. On the Claude side, a Team or Enterprise owner can restrict what the connector may do for the whole organization.
06Why did Claude stop in the middle of a long editing session?
The most likely reason is Tella's rate limit. Tella applies its public API limit to the connector: 100 requests per minute for each user in a workspace. A session with many single edits can hit it and get a rate-limited answer telling it how long to wait. Tella recommends apply_video_edits whenever two or more timeline edits are needed, since it bundles them into one call and one revision, which also spares the limit.
07Claude or an automation tool for Tella?
They do different jobs, so choose by task. Claude works in a conversation: you describe the edit, it reads the video, proposes the change and applies it once approved, then stops. It does not react on its own when a recording finishes or a webhook fires. For steps that must run every time such an event happens, an automation tool fits. For editing and tidying by request, the connector is the right tool.
