Overview

What changes when Claude can query Xweather

Instead of building weather API requests or juggling several dashboards, you ask Claude a question about a place and a time, and it calls the right Xweather data itself. Xweather positions the connector for analysis and planning: observed conditions, forecasts, history, alerts, air quality, lightning, tropical storms, maps and road weather.

Know what is happening now. xweather_get_current_weather and xweather_get_current_active_weather_alerts give the live conditions and the official warnings in force for a location.

Plan the next hours and days. xweather_get_forecast_weather covers the coming days, while xweather_get_forecast_precipitation_timing tells when rain or snow should start and stop.

Look back to spot trends. xweather_get_daily_weather_summaries and its aggregated twin turn past weeks into daily figures or totals, and the tropical tools cover storms from those active now to past cyclones used as analogues.

The boundaries matter too. Every tool reads data; none of them changes anything in your Xweather account. Several have documented ceilings: one month of data per request for the aggregates and daily summaries, 24 hours for hourly conditions and road weather. Connecting requires your Xweather API credentials. And nothing runs by itself: no alert pushes a message to you. Event-driven workflows belong to automation platforms, gathered in the Integrations hub, which do another job rather than the same one better.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The Claude vocabulary used on this page, in one minute.

Connector
A link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work with it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the tools it needs on its own, and the directory lists every one by name.
Authorization
The service's own screen where you grant the access Claude will use. Given once per person, and it can be withdrawn the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with something that changes an account, shown in the conversation.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Xweather.
Connect

Connect Vaisala Xweather in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Xweather in Claude

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize and then Connectors, and look up Vaisala Xweather. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector before members can each authenticate.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then complete the authorization page Xweather opens, where it asks for your Xweather API credentials. If the link breaks later, Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Check what the screen asks before you approve it. It belongs to Xweather, not to Claude, and it is what sets the reach of the access. That access can also be withdrawn later from the service's side.

xweather_get_aggregated_daily_weather_summaries

Rolls many days into a single set of statistics with flexible filters: a total of monthly rain, an average temperature for a given month, or a count of hot days over a season.

When it helps
a monthly or seasonal report needs one figure per indicator rather than a long day-by-day table.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_aggregated_weather_conditions

Computes quick statistics such as max, min, average, sum or count over recent observations, with simple filters, so Claude can answer how much rain fell or what the highest temperature was over a period.

When it helps
you want to know which of two cities got more rain yesterday.
Watch out
Xweather caps each request at one month of data.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_current_active_tropical_systems

Lists every tropical cyclone active anywhere in the world right now, with its position, intensity and movement. It answers the plain question of which storms exist at this moment.

When it helps
a morning briefing should open with a worldwide picture of the storms currently under way.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_current_active_weather_alerts

Returns the official watches, warnings and advisories in force for a location, the quickest way for Claude to check whether anything is currently flagged there.

When it helps
before a team heads out to a site, you want to know whether a severe weather warning covers the area.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_current_airquality

Gives the present air quality index for a place, its category and the main pollutants involved, which is what Claude needs to judge whether outdoor activity is advisable right now.

When it helps
you are wondering whether the air is fine for a run this evening.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_current_tropical_storms_near_location

Narrows the tropical picture to systems within a chosen radius of a place, or whose track or forecast passes close to it, answering whether a hurricane is near you.

When it helps
a coastal site needs to know whether an active storm sits within reach before planning the week.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_current_weather

Describes conditions at a location as they are now, temperature, humidity, wind and the rest, plus any weather alert in force. It is Claude's answer to what it is like outside right now.

When it helps
you want a quick status check for a city before leaving.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_current_weather_impacts

Reports the risk and impact indicators in effect for a place, heat, cold, storms, air quality and similar, to support decisions about safety and activities rather than raw readings.

When it helps
you want to know which weather risks to plan around for an afternoon event in one city.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_daily_weather_summaries

Delivers one summary per day, historical or near-future, with minimum, maximum and average temperatures and precipitation totals, useful to spot a pattern or a trend across days.

When it helps
you want to find the wettest days of the past two weeks from their precipitation totals.
Watch out
each request covers one month at most.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_forecast_airquality

Looks ahead at air quality: the forecast index, its category and the key pollutants expected, so Claude can say whether the coming days look fine for being outdoors.

When it helps
a weekend camping trip is planned and you want a summary you can read at a glance.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_forecast_precipitation_timing

Pinpoints when the next rain or snow should start and stop, and how long it lasts, over the coming hours to days. It is built for the question of when it will start or stop raining.

When it helps
an outdoor event starts at a set hour and you need to know whether rain will arrive first.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_forecast_weather

Supplies forecast periods day by day, with temperatures, chances of precipitation, wind and the main conditions, and can split them into day and night periods for the days ahead.

When it helps
you are choosing the warmest day of the next five for an outing and want highs and lows side by side.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_historical_lightning_strikes

Retrieves recent lightning around a location, with optional summaries grouped by time slots, so Claude can tell whether strikes have been detected nearby and how often.

When it helps
outdoor work should pause when strikes fall within a safety perimeter.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_historical_tropical_cyclones

Searches past cyclones by basin, by date or by distance from a place, for historical analysis or for comparing a current storm with similar ones from previous seasons.

When it helps
you want to compare a storm now forming with past cyclones that came close to the same coastal city.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_raster_maps

Generates a raster weather map for whatever location you name. Xweather documents this tool in a single line: it lists no layers, styles or time ranges, so the page does not promise any particular map beyond a raster image of the place.

When it helps
a written answer about a place is easier to follow with a weather map of that place beside it.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_roadweather

Reports road surface conditions and driving hazards at a single location, now and in the short range, up to 24 hours ahead.

When it helps
a site needs to know whether surface hazards on its access road are expected over the next few hours.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_roadweather_routes

Covers a whole drive between an origin and a destination: road weather for every turn or manoeuvre, a summary of the trip and conditions step by step.

When it helps
a long morning drive between two cities is planned and you want a timeline of road conditions.
Watch out
Xweather's own example for such a trip estimates about 40 calls, one per turn-by-turn direction.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_tropical_cyclone_detail

Opens the full record of a single cyclone: its lifespan, current status, the track it has followed and, if it is still active, its forecast track.

When it helps
an emergency briefing needs the complete picture of one named hurricane rather than a global list.

Sourcexweather.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

xweather_get_weather_conditions

Covers up to 24 hours of hourly conditions, recent or upcoming, for short-term planning such as the next few hours or the windiest hour ahead.

When it helps
you want to know when the strongest winds will blow between now and midnight.
Watch out
Xweather says it is not meant for forecasts over several days.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account for someone. The prompt appears in the conversation when it matters.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether a member may let some actions pass without being asked every time. They can also cap what a connector may do across the organization, keeping reading open and writing closed, and nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing beyond them: what that person cannot reach, Claude cannot reach either.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Connector by connector, that answer is published nowhere.

The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector for the organization first. For the live state of this one, look at the connector's sheet in the official directory. Every connector detail on this page comes from Xweather's documentation; no Claude help article covers it.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers, so nothing happens when a warning is issued or a storm forms.

A tool list that shows only reading is an observed floor, not a guarantee: an administrator can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The partner badge in the directory is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it neither chooses the tools a publisher exposes nor guarantees they behave as announced. Connect what comes from a publisher you know. For alert-driven flows, the Integrations hub covers the automation side.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Vaisala Xweather connector

01What can Claude do with the Vaisala Xweather connector?
Claude can answer weather questions with Xweather data instead of general knowledge. Its 19 tools cover current conditions and alerts, hourly and daily forecasts, precipitation timing, past daily summaries and aggregated statistics, air quality now and ahead, recent lightning, active and historical tropical cyclones, raster maps and road weather at a point or along a route. You describe the place and the period, and Claude picks which tools to call.
02Can Claude change anything in my Xweather account?
No tool on the sheet changes anything: all 19 retrieve weather data. That is what the public sheet exposes by default rather than a guarantee for every setup, since an administrator can open actions that never appear on a public page. Within what is listed on the sheet, Claude only reads conditions, forecasts, history, alerts and maps, and your Xweather account settings and API keys stay exactly as they were before.
03Does Claude ask before it calls these tools?
No source describes a confirmation for any specific Xweather tool, so the general rule applies: Claude asks before each action it takes on an account for someone. Xweather adds a practical control. A tool you do not need can be set to Blocked in the connector's management view. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let actions run without a prompt, and they can restrict the connector for everyone.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, while on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner must enable a connector before members can use it. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only place showing its current state for your account.
05Can Claude see everything in my Xweather account?
Claude works through the API credentials you enter during authorization, and the published material describes weather data tools only. Every one of the 19 tools on the sheet retrieves weather data, so what Claude reaches through them is conditions, forecasts, history, alerts and maps. Claude also works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing more, and an owner of a Team or Enterprise workspace can restrict what the connector may do for the whole organization at once.
06Why can't a two-month rainfall total come from a single request?
Because Xweather limits the aggregated conditions tool and the daily summaries to one month of data per request. For a longer period, Claude has to split the question into several requests or rely on the aggregated daily summaries, which are designed for statistics across many days. The same logic applies elsewhere: hourly conditions stop at 24 hours, and road weather forecasts reach at most 24 hours ahead of the current time.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with Xweather data?
They serve different needs, so it depends on the task. Claude works inside a conversation: you ask about a place and a period, it fetches the data and explains it, and nothing happens once you stop. It does not watch for alerts or run on a schedule. If you need a warning to trigger a message by itself, that belongs to an automation tool; for questions and comparisons on demand, the connector fits.
