Overview

What the magnews Zapier integration is for

magnews runs your marketing across several channels, from one platform. Connected to Zapier, it does two things: it reports, the moment they happen, contacts joining or leaving a database, and it lets a Zap (the automation you build on Zapier) add, update or unsubscribe contacts in a database for you.

Three results come up again and again. A team that knows who just arrived: New Contact posts each fresh contact in your team chat, so nobody refreshes a list to see the latest sign-ups. A database that fills itself: Add/Update Contact takes people from a form or another tool and writes them into the right magnews database, updating them when they already exist. An opt-out that travels: Contact Unsubscribed tells your other tools someone left, and Unsubscribe Contact does the reverse when the opt-out happens elsewhere.

What Zapier does not do for magnews matters just as much. There is no search, so a Zap cannot look up a contact before acting on it. Nothing designs, schedules or sends a campaign, and nothing reads statistics: the four operations only move contacts in and out of databases. A Zap also starts empty, so contacts that existed before you switched it on are never replayed.

This site has no magnews page for Make or n8n yet. If you are weighing platforms anyway, start with n8n vs Zapier.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, explained once

The page uses seven Zapier terms. Each gets one plain line here, then the page uses it as is.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap, such as a new contact in a magnews database. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like adding a contact.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens. Both magnews triggers are instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your magnews account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step and every Zap that touches magnews.
Cost

What a magnews Zap really costs

magnews is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and only for actions that succeed.

  • Contact Unsubscribed, New Contact0 tasks
  • Add/Update Contact, Unsubscribe Contact1 task each time it succeeds
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, 2-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

A contact joining or leaving a database costs nothing: triggers are free. Each successful action costs one task, so a Zap that runs Add/Update Contact uses one task per person; a failed action is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, limited to two steps each. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The grid below shows how often Zapier checks polling triggers per plan. It does not apply to this app: both magnews triggers are instant.

Connect

Connect magnews to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Start from Apps

In Zapier, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a magnews account, plus read or write access to any database you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Find magnews

Search for magnews in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the magnews side, where the sign-in with your usual account happens.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to magnews in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection then shows in your list, and every magnews step of every Zap reuses it.

First Zap

First Zap: tell the team when the right contacts arrive

GoalYour team wants to hear about new contacts in one database only: each time one is added there and passes your filter, a message lands in the team chat.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and pick the trigger

Create a Zap, choose magnews as the app and New Contact as the event, then select your magnews connection from the account list.

  2. 02

    Choose the database

Pick the database to watch in the required Databases field. Only contacts added to that database will start this Zap, so choose the one your team cares about.

  3. 03

    Test on real contacts

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent contacts of that database, so you map the message on a real person rather than on placeholders.

  4. 04

Add the filter, then the message

Add Filter from the plus icon: the field, the rule, the value. Then add your chat app and write the message. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and read what came back. When the message reads well, click Publish. From now on, each contact that passes the filter is announced.

Triggers

magnews triggers

2 events start a Zap when something happens in magnews, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Contact Unsubscribed

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a contact unsubscribes from a database.”

Starts your Zap when someone leaves one of your magnews databases, and passes that person on so another tool can stop writing to them too.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
when an opt-out recorded in magnews should also be reflected in the other tools that write to that person, or in a log kept elsewhere.
Watch out
you must pick both the database and an unsubscribe cause, both required, so decide which database and which cause this Zap is about before you set it up.
2

New Contact

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new contact is added to a database.”

Fires as soon as a contact is added to the magnews database you chose, and hands that contact to the next steps of the Zap.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
when a new subscriber should be announced to a team, copied into a spreadsheet or passed to another tool without anyone exporting a list.
Watch out
the Databases field is required, so one Zap watches one choice of database; contacts landing anywhere else do not start it.
Actions

magnews actions

magnews gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add/Update Contact

Action

In Zapier“Add or update a contact in a database.”

Writes a person into the magnews database you pick: a new contact if nobody matches, or an update when a contact with the same key is already there.

When to use it
a form or another tool should feed a database without anyone importing a file.
Watch out
a setting decides what happens when a contact with the same key exists; check it before you publish.
2

Unsubscribe Contact

Action

In Zapier“Unsubscribe contacts based on primary key (i.e. email, mobile phone, user code).”

Unsubscribes a person from a magnews database, found by its primary key: an email, a mobile phone or a user code depending on how that database is keyed.

When to use it
someone opts out in another tool and magnews should stop writing to them too.
Watch out
database, unsubscribe cause and primary key are all required, and the key must match the one that database uses.
When it breaks

When a magnews Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to magnews and lists no limit of its own for it. The cases below come from how Zapier works, applied to this app.

Most surprises with magnews fall into one of these four. Knowing them before you publish spares you a long search. For anything else, go to the Zapier troubleshooting page.

  • A Zap that feeds itself

If Add/Update Contact writes into the database a New Contact Zap watches, the Zap can set itself off again and again and burn through tasks fast. Point the action at another database.
  • Existing contacts are not replayed

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Contacts already in a database stay as they are, and moving them is a separate job.
  • A bulk import gets held back

After a large import or a migration, a trigger can suddenly return a huge batch, and Zapier's flood protection can hold the Zap back.
  • The unsubscribe misses its target

Unsubscribe Contact needs the primary key of the database: an email, a mobile phone or a user name, depending on how that database is keyed. Send the matching value.

FAQ

magnews Zapier integration: your questions

01Is the magnews Zapier integration free?
Yes. magnews is not a premium app, so its two triggers and two actions are open on the free plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A New Contact trigger posting to one chat fits. A Zap that adds a filter, a second action or a search step becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. Also check the other app in the Zap, since premium apps are reserved to paid plans and the free trial.
02How many tasks does a magnews Zap use?
Triggers cost nothing, so contacts joining or leaving a database are never billed on their own. Each action that succeeds counts one task: Add/Update Contact once per person, Unsubscribe Contact once per opt-out. An action that fails is not counted. A Zap with three actions uses three tasks each time it runs. Watching for new events is free however often it happens. A few apps and a few actions take more than one task, so check the other steps of your Zap before sizing your plan.
03Do magnews triggers fire in real time?
Yes, both of them. Contact Unsubscribed and New Contact are instant triggers: the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. On the free plan, polling triggers wait up to 15 minutes between checks, and that wait does not apply here. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. The type is set by magnews itself, so there is no setting to change in Zapier.
04What do you need to connect magnews to Zapier?
A magnews account, plus read or write access to any database you do not own and want the Zap to use. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for magnews, click Add connection, sign in to magnews in the new tab and grant access. Every magnews operation then asks for a database, so the account must already hold at least one. The connection is reused by every magnews step afterwards, so you only do this once.
05Why does a magnews Zap keep running on its own?
Usually because it writes where its own trigger watches. Zapier warns that a Zap writing into the very place its trigger watches can set itself off again and again, and burn through the task count fast. With magnews, keep an eye on two pairs: Add/Update Contact writing into the database a New Contact Zap watches, and Unsubscribe Contact working on the database a Contact Unsubscribed Zap watches. The simplest guard is to point the action at a different database from the one the trigger watches. Both operations ask for the database in a required field, so the choice is yours before you publish.
06What if the magnews operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then Zapier does not offer it today. The editor lists only what the magnews app page lists: two triggers, Contact Unsubscribed and New Contact, and two actions, Add/Update Contact and Unsubscribe Contact. There is no search, nothing on campaigns and nothing on statistics. If your need is only about moving contacts in and out of databases, these four cover it. If it goes further, compare what each automation tool publishes for magnews before you build around a step that does not exist.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for magnews?
Pick by criterion rather than by ranking. On Zapier, magnews brings two instant triggers and two contact actions, usable on the free plan as long as each Zap has two steps. Billing is per successful action, so count how many actions each contact goes through. Then look at where your other apps already live and which editor your team can maintain over time. Whatever the tool, check that it exposes the magnews operations you need before you commit.
