Overview

What the mallabe Currencies Zapier integration is for

The mallabe Currencies Zapier integration lets a Zap convert money from one currency to another, or pull exchange rates, without anyone looking them up by hand. Zapier is the service that links your apps: it waits for an event in one, then runs steps in others. mallabe Currencies can play both parts.

Three typical results. A converted amount: Convert Currency takes an amount, a starting currency and a target currency, and passes the converted figure to the next step. A set of current rates: Get Daily Rates returns the rates for one base currency, ready to be written into a sheet. A record of every conversion: Currency Converted starts a Zap each time mallabe reports a conversion, so the result can be logged or shared.

Now what Zapier does not do with this app. There is no search, so a Zap cannot look up a conversion made earlier. The actions work on the amount and currencies you map into them and nothing else: if the amount arrives empty or in the wrong field, the conversion has nothing to work with. And a Zap never goes back in time, so amounts that existed before you switched it on are not converted.

The same app is covered on Make too, on the mallabe Currencies Make integration page. To compare the platforms themselves, see Make vs Zapier.

Vocabulary

Zapier terms in one minute

Seven words come back across this page. Here they are once, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. mallabe Currencies has one: a currency converted.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or calculates something. mallabe Currencies offers two.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. Your plan counts these and nothing else.
Polling vs instant
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. mallabe Currencies is instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What mallabe Currencies costs in tasks

Each conversion or rate lookup is an action, so each one that succeeds is a task.

  • Free plan100 tasks per month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, it works on the free plan
  • One conversionOne task when it succeeds

The trigger never uses a task. Every action that works counts as one; an action that fails is not counted. Converting an amount and then writing it to a sheet is two actions, so two tasks per run. mallabe Currencies is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, in Zaps of two steps. A second action or a filter makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. The interval grid below concerns polling triggers only: it does not apply to the instant trigger of mallabe Currencies, though it does apply when another app's polling trigger starts the Zap.

Connect

Connect mallabe Currencies to Zapier

  1. 01

    Go to your Apps page

In Zapier, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your mallabe account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that converts or fetches rates.

  2. 02

    Select mallabe Currencies

Search for mallabe Currencies in the dialog, pick it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the mallabe side so you can sign in there, not in Zapier.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log into your mallabe account in that tab and grant Zapier access. An account on the app is the prerequisite, plus access to anything you do not own and want the Zap to touch.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log every mallabe conversion

GoalEach conversion reported by mallabe Currencies adds a row to your spreadsheet, so you keep a running record without copying anything.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and set the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose mallabe Currencies and the Currency Converted event, then select your connection. mallabe reports each conversion itself.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you map fields from a real conversion rather than a guess.

  3. 03

    Add the spreadsheet step

Add the new-row action of your spreadsheet tool and place the values that came from mallabe into the columns you want, such as the amount and the currencies.

  4. 04

    Test the action

Run the action once and read what came back. Check that the new row holds the converted figure and not the original one before going further.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish. This two-step Zap fits the free plan, and each conversion then costs one task: the new row added to your sheet.

Triggers

The mallabe Currencies trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in mallabe Currencies, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Currency Converted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a currency converted event occurred.”

Starts your Zap when mallabe reports that a currency conversion has taken place, and hands that event to the next step so another app can record it, share it or act on the converted amount.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
conversions happen on the mallabe side and you want each one to leave a trace elsewhere, in a sheet or a message.
Watch out
only conversions that happen after you publish the Zap start it; earlier ones are never picked up.
Actions

The two mallabe Currencies actions

mallabe Currencies gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Convert Currency

Action

In Zapier“Convert currencies automatically. Can be greatly used when you want to get the most current currency exchange in spreadsheets, You can also schedule a daily task to retrieve currency exchange for a specific currency.”

Turns an amount from one currency into another and passes the result to the following steps. You set the starting currency, the target currency and the amount, and all three are required.

When to use it
amounts arrive in a foreign currency and the next tool needs them in yours.
Watch out
map the amount from the previous step rather than typing it, or every run converts the same figure.
2

Get Daily Rates

Action

In Zapier“Get Daily Rates of Currencies. Can be greatly used when you want to get the most current currency exchange rates in spreadsheets, You can also schedule a daily task to retrieve currency exchange rates.”

Fetches the current exchange rates for one base currency and hands them to the next step, ready to be written into a sheet or a message. From / Base Currency is the only required field.

When to use it
you want the current rates for one base currency without looking them up yourself.
Watch out
it returns rates, not a converted amount; use Convert Currency for that.
When it breaks

When a mallabe Currencies Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to mallabe Currencies. The cases below come from the app's required fields and from the general rules of Zapier.

Most failures come from a missing value or a Zap that does more than the plan allows. Go through these before publishing. If something still goes wrong, see Zapier troubleshooting.

  • A required field is empty

Convert Currency needs a starting currency, a target currency and an amount. If the previous step leaves one of them blank, the action has nothing to work with.
  • Older amounts are not converted

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Amounts already recorded stay as they are; converting them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

If a Zap writes back into the place its own trigger watches, it starts itself again and again and burns through your task count.
  • Large bursts can be held back

A trigger that suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import for example, can be slowed down by Zapier's flood protection.

FAQ

mallabe Currencies Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the mallabe Currencies Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free Zapier plan. mallabe Currencies is not a premium app, so no paid plan is needed to connect it. The free plan gives you 100 tasks per month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that converts an amount and then writes it somewhere has three steps, so it needs a paid plan. No price is listed here because plan prices change often; the Zapier plans page is the reference.
02How many tasks does a currency conversion use?
One task per conversion that succeeds. Convert Currency and Get Daily Rates are actions, and each successful action counts once. The Currency Converted trigger is free, and a failed action is not counted. A Zap that converts an amount and then adds a row to a sheet therefore costs two tasks per run. Multiply that by the number of amounts you expect to convert, and you will know whether the 100 tasks of the free plan are enough.
03Is the mallabe Currencies trigger real time?
Yes. Currency Converted is an instant trigger: mallabe tells Zapier the moment a conversion happens, and the Zap starts right away. The interval grid of the Zapier plans only concerns polling triggers, which Zapier checks on a timer, so a free plan starts as fast as a paid one here. If you use the actions in a Zap started by another app, though, the speed depends on that app's trigger. A Zap on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt in the editor.
04What do you need to connect mallabe Currencies to Zapier?
A mallabe account, nothing more on the Zapier side. From the Apps page, click + Add connection, search for mallabe Currencies, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. The connection is then reused by every Zap that converts amounts or fetches rates. If the amounts you plan to convert live in a tool someone else owns, the account connected to that tool needs access to them too. One account covers them all.
05Why does Convert Currency return nothing useful?
Most of the time, one of its three required fields is missing or wrong. Convert Currency needs From / Base Currency, To Currency and Amount; if the previous step does not supply the amount, or supplies it in another field, the conversion has nothing to work with. Test the step once in the editor and read what came back. Also check that you mapped the amount from the trigger rather than typing a fixed figure.
06What if the mallabe Currencies operation you need is missing?
Then this integration cannot do it today. It offers one trigger, Currency Converted, and two actions, Convert Currency and Get Daily Rates, with no search. Looking up a past conversion, for example, is not available in the editor. Check the operations listed on the mallabe Currencies page of Zapier before you build, since that list is exactly what the editor will offer you, nothing more and nothing less. That list is the one to trust.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for mallabe Currencies?
It depends on your criteria, not on a set winner. On Zapier, mallabe Currencies works on the free plan in two-step Zaps and its trigger is instant, which suits logging each conversion. If you plan to convert and then write the result elsewhere, the Zap becomes multi-step, so compare how each platform counts usage. The app also has a Make integration; for n8n, check availability separately, because this page does not cover it.
