Overview

What the mallabe Websites Zapier integration does

The mallabe Websites Zapier integration lets a Zap check whether a website responds, fetch its icon or capture a thumbnail, without anyone opening a browser. Zapier is the service that links your apps: it waits for an event in one, then runs steps in others. mallabe Websites can start a Zap or act inside one.

Three typical results. An alert when a site stops answering: Check Website Status tells you whether an address is alive, and the next step can warn whoever needs to know. A visual of a page: Get Website Thumbnail turns an address into a picture you can store or share. A small brand mark: Get Website Icon fetches the icon a site shows in the browser tab, handy when you list many sites side by side.

Now what Zapier does not do here. mallabe Websites has a strict idea of alive: a site that does not answer within 5 seconds counts as dead, and only the codes 200, 201, 202 and 204 count as alive. A slow site, or one that answers with any other code, can therefore read as down, even when it loads fine for you. There is no search, so a Zap cannot look back at an earlier check. And the two triggers report events that happen on the mallabe side.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary for this page

Seven words, explained once in plain English, then used as they are.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. mallabe Websites has two: a status checked, a thumbnail generated.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or fetches something. mallabe Websites offers three.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. Your plan counts these and nothing else.
Polling vs instant
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. Both mallabe Websites triggers are instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What mallabe Websites costs in tasks

Each check, icon or thumbnail is an action, so each one that succeeds is a task.

  • Free plan100 tasks per month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, it works on the free plan
  • One check, icon or thumbnailOne task when it succeeds

Triggers never use a task. Every action that works counts as one; one that fails is not counted. Check a site, then post the result in a chat: two actions, two tasks per run. mallabe Websites is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan, in Zaps of two steps. Add a filter to keep only the dead sites, or a second action, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below concerns polling triggers: it does not apply to the two instant triggers of mallabe Websites.

Connect

Connect mallabe Websites to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your mallabe account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that checks or captures sites.

  2. 02

    Find mallabe Websites

Search for mallabe Websites in the dialog, pick it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the mallabe side, where you sign in rather than inside Zapier.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log into your mallabe account in that tab and allow Zapier to use it. An account on the app is the prerequisite, plus access to anything you do not own and want the Zap to touch.

First Zap

Your first Zap: warn the team when a site is down

GoalWhen mallabe Websites reports a status check, a filter keeps only the sites found dead and a message goes to your team chat.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and set the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose mallabe Websites and the Website Status Checked event, then your connection. mallabe reports each check itself.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you build the next steps on a real check.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add a Filter step and fill its three boxes: the field holding the status, the rule, and the value that means dead. Test it on the sample.

  4. 04

    Add the chat message

Add the send-message action of your chat tool and put the site address and its status in the text. Test the step and read what came back.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish. With a filter this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan; only the messages actually sent cost a task.

Triggers

The two mallabe Websites triggers

2 events start a Zap when something happens in mallabe Websites, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Website Status Checked

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a website status check event occurred.”

Starts your Zap when mallabe reports that a website status check has taken place, and passes that result to the next step so another app can log it, flag it or act on a site that stopped answering.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
checks run on the mallabe side and you want each result to reach a chat, a sheet or an inbox.
Watch out
a slow site can come through as dead, so read the result before you raise an alarm.
2

Website Thumbnail Generated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a website thumbnail generation event occurred.”

Fires when mallabe reports that a thumbnail of a website has been generated, and hands that picture over so the following steps can store it, attach it or share it with someone.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
thumbnails are produced on the mallabe side and should land in your files or your team's channel without anyone copying them.
Watch out
it reacts to thumbnails only, not to icons or status checks.
Actions

The three mallabe Websites actions

mallabe Websites gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Check Website Status

Action

In Zapier“Checks the status of a website. Note: The timeout is 5 seconds - a website that doesn't answer in this timeout will be considered dead. Note: Only status codes of 200, 201, 202, 204 are considered alive.”

Tests whether a website answers and passes the verdict, alive or dead, to the following steps. Website URL is the only required field.

When to use it
a Zap must react differently depending on whether a site is up.
Watch out
no answer within 5 seconds means dead, and only the codes 200, 201, 202 and 204 count as alive; any other answer reads as down.
2

Get Website Icon

Action

In Zapier“Get a website favicon / icon. Can greatly help in market analysis.”

Fetches the small icon a website shows in the browser tab and passes it along, so a list of sites can carry their marks.

When to use it
you keep a table of sites and want each row easy to recognise at a glance.
Watch out
the full Website URL is required, as with the other two actions.
3

Get Website Thumbnail

Action

In Zapier“Creates a website thumbnail from a given URL.”

Creates a picture of a web page from its address and hands the image to the next step, ready to be stored, attached or posted.

When to use it
you collect links and want a visual preview of each one next to it.
Watch out
Website URL is required and must be the full address of the page.
When it breaks

When a mallabe Websites Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to mallabe Websites. The cases below come from the app's own notes and from Zapier's general rules.

Most surprises come from what mallabe calls alive, or from an address typed loosely. Go through these before publishing. If a Zap still misbehaves, see Zapier troubleshooting.

  • A slow site reads as dead

Check Website Status waits 5 seconds. A site that answers later is marked dead, even if it loads fine in your browser.
  • Other answer codes read as down

Only the codes 200, 201, 202 and 204 count as alive. A site that answers with any other code is treated as dead, even if a person can open it.
  • The address is incomplete

All three actions need the full Website URL. A bare or partial address gives the action nothing valid to work with.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

If the Zap writes back into the place its own trigger watches, it starts itself again and again and burns through your tasks.
  • Past checks are not picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Earlier checks and thumbnails are not replayed; handling them is a separate job.
  • Large bursts can be held back

A trigger that suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import for example, can be slowed down by Zapier's flood protection.

FAQ

mallabe Websites Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the mallabe Websites Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free Zapier plan. mallabe Websites is not a premium app, so no paid plan is needed to connect it. The free plan gives you 100 tasks per month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that filters for dead sites before alerting someone has three steps, so it needs a paid plan. No price is quoted here because plan prices change often; the Zapier plans page is the reference.
02How many tasks does a website status check use?
One task per action that succeeds. Check Website Status, Get Website Icon and Get Website Thumbnail are actions, and each successful run of one counts once. The two triggers are free, and an action that fails is not counted. A filter that stops the Zap costs nothing either, since no action ran. So a Zap that only alerts on dead sites spends tasks on alerts, not on every check that comes in.
03Are the mallabe Websites triggers real time?
Yes. Website Status Checked and Website Thumbnail Generated are both instant triggers: mallabe tells Zapier the moment the event happens, and the Zap starts right away. The interval grid of the Zapier plans only applies to polling triggers, which Zapier checks on a timer, so a free plan starts as fast as a paid one here. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt.
04What do you need to connect mallabe Websites to Zapier?
A mallabe account, nothing more on the Zapier side. From the Apps page, click + Add connection, search for mallabe Websites, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. The connection is then reused by every Zap that checks sites or captures them. The sites you check do not need to be yours: the actions only need their full public address in the Website URL field. One account covers all of them.
05Why does mallabe Websites say a working site is dead?
Because its definition of alive is strict. Check Website Status gives a site 5 seconds to answer; past that, it counts as dead. It also counts as alive only the codes 200, 201, 202 and 204, so any other answer code means down. If a site you know is fine keeps coming back dead, check the exact address you passed, including the full start of the URL. Then run the check again before you raise an alarm.
06What if the mallabe Websites operation you need doesn't exist?
Then this integration cannot do it today. It offers two triggers, a status checked and a thumbnail generated, and three actions: check a status, get an icon, get a thumbnail. There is no search, so looking back at an earlier check is not possible from the editor. Check the operations listed on the mallabe Websites page of Zapier before building, since that list is exactly what the editor will offer.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for mallabe Websites?
It depends on your criteria, not on a set winner. On Zapier, mallabe Websites runs on the free plan with two instant triggers, which suits a simple two-step Zap such as posting each check result. If you want to filter for dead sites or chain several actions, the Zap becomes multi-step, so compare how each platform counts usage. Check too whether mallabe is offered on the other platforms, as this page does not cover them.
