MegaConvert Zapier integrationAutomate MegaConvert with Zapier.
The MegaConvert Zapier integration has no trigger and 5 actions. Your Zap starts in another app, then MegaConvert converts the file, reports where the job stands and hands back the result. One action also shows your usage on MegaConvert.

What the MegaConvert Zapier integration does with your files
MegaConvert is a file conversion service that handles images, documents, audio, video and PDFs. On Zapier it sits inside a Zap (the automation you build on Zapier: one event that starts it, then one or more steps that run each time). Another app brings the file, and MegaConvert does the converting without anyone opening a converter by hand.
A PDF from every incoming document. When a file reaches your storage tool, Convert a File sends it to MegaConvert with the target format you type, such as pdf or docx. The action returns a job ID, the reference that the other actions use.
A clear status before anyone downloads. Get Job Status reads that job ID and tells you whether the conversion is pending, processing, completed or failed. That lets a later step act only on finished jobs.
The converted file, back in your Zap. Download Result fetches the converted file as an attachment, ready for the next app. It needs a completed job, so it belongs after a status check. Get API Usage reports your requests of the day, remaining quota, plan and maximum file size, and Make an API Call covers the rest for advanced users.
What Zapier does not do here: MegaConvert has no trigger, so nothing in MegaConvert can start a Zap, and there is no search step. A Zap also never converts files that existed before it was switched on. If you are comparing tools for this kind of job, see our n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier comparisons.
Zapier words, in plain English
Six words come back throughout this page. Here they are once, so the rest reads easily.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. MegaConvert has none, so the trigger always comes from another app, such as your storage.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, here a conversion or a download.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully; the number on your plan counts those.
- Polling vs instant trigger
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier at a fixed interval; an instant one is reported by the app the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it there otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a MegaConvert Zap really costs
MegaConvert is not a premium app, so it works from Zapier's free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and only a completed action is one.
- MegaConvert triggersNone
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Premium appNo
The trigger from your other app never costs a task. Each MegaConvert action that succeeds counts on its own: convert, check the status, download, and you have spent three tasks on one file. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps of two steps each, one trigger and one action. A Zap that converts and then checks the job already has three steps, so it needs a paid plan. The interval grid below applies to the polling trigger of the app that starts your Zap, never to MegaConvert, which has no trigger.
Connect MegaConvert to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your MegaConvert account linked once, then reused by every step that uses MegaConvert.
- 02
Pick MegaConvert
Type MegaConvert in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can identify yourself on the MegaConvert side.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Sign in to MegaConvert in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. You need a MegaConvert account, plus read or write access to anything you do not own and want the Zap to touch.
Your first Zap: every new file converted to PDF
GoalWhen a new file arrives in your storage tool, MegaConvert converts it to PDF and the Zap reads where the conversion job stands.
- 01
Create the Zap
Start a new Zap and pick your storage tool as the app that starts it, with its new-file event. That trigger belongs to the other app, so its speed depends on that app.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you map the fields on a real file rather than on a guess.
- 03
Add Convert a File
Add MegaConvert with Convert a File. Map the file from the trigger into File to Convert, and type pdf in Output Format, with no dot in front.
- 04
Add Get Job Status
Add Get Job Status and map the job ID returned by the previous step. The test shows whether the job reads pending, processing, completed or failed.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back. Then publish the Zap to switch it on. With three steps it is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.
MegaConvert actions
MegaConvert gives you 5 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Make an API Call
ActionIn Zapier“Make a raw authenticated request to any MegaConvert API endpoint. For advanced users who need endpoints not covered by the other actions.”
Sends a raw, authenticated request to MegaConvert for anything the four other actions do not cover. It asks for an HTTP method and a full URL.
Convert a File
ActionIn Zapier“Upload a file and convert it to a different format. Returns a job_id you can use with "Get Job Status" to poll progress and "Download Result" to get the converted file.”
Uploads a file to MegaConvert and asks for it in another format. It returns a job ID, which Get Job Status and Download Result then use.
Download Result
ActionIn Zapier“Download the converted file as a binary attachment. Requires a completed job_id.”
Brings the converted file back into your Zap as an attachment, so the next step can store or send it.
Get API Usage
ActionIn Zapier“Returns your current API usage stats: requests today, remaining quota, plan, and max file size.”
Reports your current usage on MegaConvert: requests today, remaining quota, plan and maximum file size. It needs no field to fill.
Get Job Status
ActionIn Zapier“Check the status of a conversion job (pending, processing, completed, or failed).”
Reads where a conversion job stands: pending, processing, completed or failed. It takes the job ID returned by Convert a File or by an earlier status check.
When a MegaConvert Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to MegaConvert, and no rate limit is published for it. What breaks is what breaks on any Zap, plus the order of the steps.
Here are the cases worth checking first. Each one looks the same from the outside: a Zap that runs, but not on what you expected. If a Zap stops for a reason you cannot place, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Download before the job is done
Download Result needs a completed job. Place Get Job Status before it and read at the test whether the job is completed before counting on the file.No history is picked up
A Zap only reacts to files that arrive after you switch it on. Documents already in your storage stay unconverted; moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that sets itself off
A Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start again and again. Saving the converted file back into the watched folder can do it.A sudden burst is held back
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the runs back instead of letting them all through.
