Overview

What the Mission Mobile Zapier integration is for

Mission Mobile is an SMS and MMS marketing platform. Its Zapier integration lets your other tools write into it: when something happens elsewhere, a Zap adds the person to Mission Mobile, keeps their record current, removes them, or sends them a text. Mission Mobile itself never starts a Zap on Zapier.

Three results you can build. A list that grows from your forms: each new submission runs Create a Contact Mobile Campaign (Mobile + Additional Data), which adds or updates the contact and opts them into a mobile campaign. A confirmation text: when a booking or a request lands in another app, Send Individual Message sends that one person a message on your shortcode and keyword. A clean exit: when someone is marked as leaving in your spreadsheet, Delete Contact removes their mobile number from Mission Mobile.

What Zapier does not do for Mission Mobile. There is no trigger, so a reply, an opt-in or an opt-out happening in Mission Mobile cannot start a Zap. There is no search step either, so a Zap cannot check whether a contact already exists. Every Zap starts in another app, and how fast it starts depends on that app's trigger. Nothing that happened before you switched the Zap on is picked up.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, in one minute

Seven terms, one line each, before you start building.

Zap
Your automation on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. With Mission Mobile, it always comes from another app, such as a form or a spreadsheet.
Action
What the Zap does once started: here, the step that creates a contact or sends a text in Mission Mobile.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer; an instant trigger is reported by its app the moment it happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action: a second action, a filter or a search. It needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Mission Mobile Zap costs

Zapier bills actions, not triggers. Mission Mobile is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan.

  • Trigger in the other app0 tasks
  • Successful Mission Mobile action1 task each
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

The trigger in your other app costs nothing. Each Mission Mobile action that succeeds counts one task, and a failed one counts none. A Zap that creates a contact and then sends them a message uses two tasks per run. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger, one action. A second action, a filter or a search makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. Mission Mobile has no trigger of its own, so the grid below applies only if the app that starts your Zap uses a polling trigger.

Connect

Connect Mission Mobile to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your apps

On Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. Search for Mission Mobile in the dialog and pick it. You need a Mission Mobile account first.

  2. 02

Click Add connection and sign in to Mission Mobile in the tab that opens. You also need read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection is then reused by every Mission Mobile action you add, in this Zap and in the next, without signing in again.

First Zap

Your first Mission Mobile Zap: form signups into a campaign

GoalEach form submission that meets your condition adds the person to Mission Mobile and opts them into a mobile campaign.

  1. 01

    Set the trigger

Create a Zap and pick your form tool as the app that starts it, with its new submission event. Test it so Zapier brings back real submissions to map from.

  2. 02

    Add the filter

Add a Filter from the plus icon and set its three boxes: the field, the rule, the value. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  3. 03

    Add the Mission Mobile action

Pick Mission Mobile and Create a Contact Mobile Campaign (Mobile + Additional Data). Map the Mobile field, which is required, to the phone field of the form.

  4. 04

    Test the action

Run the step once and read what came back before going further: that is where a badly mapped Mobile number, Shortcode or Keyword shows up.

  5. 05

    Publish

Publish the Zap to switch it on. Only submissions received after that point will run it; earlier ones stay where they are. On the free plan, drop the filter.

Actions

Mission Mobile actions: what a Zap can do

Mission Mobile gives you 6 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create a Contact Mobile Campaign (Mobile + Additional Data)

Action

In Zapier“Creates or update Contact and Opt-in to a Mobile Campaign (Mobile + Additional Data)”

Creates the contact, or updates it if it already exists, and opts it into a mobile campaign, with extra data alongside the number. The Mobile field is required.

When to use it
a signup form collects a name and a phone number, and you want both in Mission Mobile with the opt-in done.
Watch out
check at test how your number format comes through before relying on it.
2

Delete Contact

Action

In Zapier“Delete contact, probably with input from previous steps.”

Removes a contact from Mission Mobile. The Mobile number is the one required field.

When to use it
a person asks to leave through another tool, and their number should go from Mission Mobile too.
Watch out
the Zap deletes whichever number you map, so check the mapping before publishing.
3

Create Contact Campaign (Mobile # Only)

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new contact campaign (Mobile # Only), probably with input from previous steps.”

The lighter version: it creates a new contact campaign from the mobile number alone, the one required field.

When to use it
the app that starts your Zap only knows a phone number, with no name or other detail worth carrying over.
Watch out
if you also need extra fields stored, the action above is the one to pick.
4

Create Schedule Blast (SendMT)

Action

In Zapier“Send a broadcast message to contacts who have opted into specific keyword campaigns”

Sends a broadcast to the contacts who opted into a given keyword campaign. Keyword, Shortcode and Message are required, with the message capped at 120 characters.

When to use it
a new row in your announcements spreadsheet should go out to a whole keyword list at once.
Watch out
one run reaches the whole list, so test with care.
5

Send Individual Message

Action

In Zapier“Send an immediate message to an individual contacts”

Sends a message straight to one contact. Four fields are required: Mobile, Shortcode, Keyword and Message, and the message can be up to 120 characters long.

When to use it
a confirmation or a reminder for one person, after a request lands in another app.
Watch out
map a short message field; anything longer than 120 characters is beyond what the field takes.
6

Update Contact (No Keyword Opt-In)

Action

In Zapier“Update contact with No Keyword Opt-In, probably with input from previous steps.”

Changes an existing contact without opting it into a keyword campaign. Its one required field is the Mobile number.

When to use it
someone corrects their details in your CRM, and Mission Mobile should follow without any new opt-in.
Watch out
the number has to match the one Mission Mobile already holds; check at test.
When it breaks

When a Mission Mobile Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Mission Mobile, and no rate limit specific to the app is documented. What can go wrong is mostly what goes wrong on any Zap, plus one field limit.

  • Messages longer than 120 characters

Both message actions take a message of up to 120 characters. Map a field that stays within that, or shorten the text before it reaches Mission Mobile.
  • Old contacts never arrive

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. People already in your form or spreadsheet are not picked up; moving them is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps starting itself

A Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can set itself off again and again, and burn through tasks. Keep the two apart.
  • A bulk import is held back

When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold that batch back.

FAQ

Mission Mobile Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the Mission Mobile Zapier integration free?
Yes. Mission Mobile is not a premium app, so its actions work on Zapier's free plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each built from two steps: one trigger and one action. A form submission that runs Create a Contact Mobile Campaign fits that. Add a filter to keep only some submissions, or a second action such as Send Individual Message, and it becomes a multi-step Zap that needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Mission Mobile Zap use?
One task per successful action, nothing for the trigger. A Zap where a form runs Create a Contact Mobile Campaign costs one task per submission. Add Send Individual Message after it and each submission costs two. A blast sent with Create Schedule Blast (SendMT) is one action in your Zap; check at test how it shows on your task count. An action that fails is not counted. The trigger in the other app never costs anything, however often it fires.
03Can Mission Mobile start a Zap in real time?
No, because Mission Mobile has no trigger on Zapier: nothing that happens in it can start a Zap. Your Zap always starts in another app, and that app's trigger sets the pace. If it is an instant trigger, the Zap starts right away. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks it at your plan's interval, every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise.
04What does it take to connect Mission Mobile to Zapier?
A Mission Mobile account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. On Zapier, open the Apps page, click + Add connection, search for Mission Mobile and pick it, click Add connection, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. For the message actions, have your Keyword and Shortcode ready, since both are required fields. The connection is then reused by every Mission Mobile step in your Zaps.
05Why does Send Individual Message ask for a keyword?
Because Mission Mobile requires it: Send Individual Message has four required fields, Mobile, Shortcode, Keyword and Message. So even a message to a single person needs both values filled in, and they must match what your Mission Mobile account uses. The message itself is limited to 120 characters. If your trigger app only gives you a phone number, the keyword and shortcode have to be filled in the action itself.
06What if a Mission Mobile operation is missing from Zapier?
Check Mission Mobile's app page on Zapier, which shows the current list: six actions today and no trigger. If what you want is not there, the integration does not offer it. See first whether one of the six covers it: Update Contact (No Keyword Opt-In), for instance, changes a contact without a new opt-in. If not, that step stays in Mission Mobile, and the Zap handles everything around it. Each action listed there can be picked in the editor today.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Mission Mobile?
Choose by criteria, not by a ranking. First, what the Zap starts from: Mission Mobile has no trigger on Zapier, so the app that starts it matters more than usual, including whether its trigger is instant. Second, billing: Zapier counts one task per successful action, so a Zap that creates a contact and then texts them costs two per run. Third, coverage: check that the other tool lists Mission Mobile. Fourth, who on your team maintains it.
