Which AI resume builder should you use when you're applying to 30 jobs?

Any tool can write your first resume. Application number twenty is a different problem.

Once you're actively job hunting, the problem shifts. You already have a resume. What you need is to tailor it to each posting without losing your evening, get past applicant tracking systems (ATS, the software that screens resumes before a human does), write a cover letter when one is required, and remember what you sent where.

The short answer: Teal if you apply a lot, because it pairs tailoring with a free tracker that has no cap on saved jobs. Rezi for cover letters, unlimited even on the free plan. Huntr if you think of your search as a pipeline. Kickresume for a free master resume with unlimited downloads. Enhancv for a short paid sprint. Novoresume to check ATS readability for free.

One warning first: AI that mirrors a job post tends to slip in skills you don't have. The right tool isn't the one that pushes a score up. It's the one that helps you move fast without making anything up.

Scores on five weighted criteria, the same as our wider ranking. Teal ranks above Kickresume on this page for tailoring and tracking. 3-month cost uses official 2026 prices and the cheapest plan for that length.

How we ranked

How we compared and scored

Each tool keeps the score it has in our wider AI resume builder ranking, on the same five weighted criteria. What changes here is the order. For someone sending dozens of applications, two criteria matter most: tailoring to the job post, and tracking what you've sent. That's why Teal sits above Kickresume despite a slightly lower overall score. Huntr is new to our rankings and was scored on the same grid.

We read official pricing pages, free-plan limits tool by tool, refund terms, and recent user reviews, especially those about cancelling. Then we priced a three-month search, a realistic length for a job hunt.

Jobscan isn't ranked: its paid prices only appear after you log in. Its free tips are still useful, and we use them in the method below. Zety and Resume.io are covered in our wider ranking.

1
Best for an active job search

Teal

4.0/5

Teal ranks first here even though Kickresume has a slightly higher overall score (4.1 vs 4.0). The reason is what happens around application number twenty. You stop needing a nice template and start needing not to lose track. Teal is the only tool on this list that combines job-post tailoring with a real application tracker on its free plan.

That tracker has no cap on saved jobs. For each one you keep the resume version you sent, your contacts and a follow-up date. Users on review sites say it replaces the spreadsheet they used to keep by hand. The free AI is deliberately limited; Teal+ unlocks the full keyword analysis of a job post and unlimited AI.

Teal+ comes in three billing rhythms: $13 a week, $29 a month or $79 a quarter. For a longer search, the quarter wins. Thirteen weeks at $13 is $169, more than twice the quarterly price.

The catch: adding keywords is still manual work on every resume, and several users call it tedious. AI cover letters need a real edit too. One reviewer reports a charge after forgetting to cancel, so put the end date in your calendar the day you pay.

Standout features
  • Unlimited job tracking on the free plan
  • Resume version, contacts and follow-up date per job
  • Quarterly Teal+ for a longer search
+Pros
  • ✓Tailoring and tracking in one place
  • ✓Free plan already useful to stay organized
  • ✓$79 a quarter, the best 3-month math
−Cons
  • ✗Keywords to re-add on every resume
  • ✗AI cover letters need editing
  • ✗Weekly plan gets expensive fast
Verdict

The best pick once your job search turns into a multi-week project. If you only need one clean PDF, Kickresume does the job for less.

Best for cover letters

Rezi

3.9/5

Rezi has a perk most job seekers miss: its AI cover letters are unlimited, even on the free plan. If the jobs you want still ask for a letter, nothing else here is that generous. The rest of the free plan is tight: limited keyword targeting, a limited Rezi Score (its ATS readability check), 3 PDF downloads and 1 AI mock interview.

Pro costs $29 a month and lifts those limits, adds DOCX and Google Drive export, and includes one expert review a month. Lifetime is $149, paid once. Paid plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee, the longest on this page.

Do the math: three months of Pro is $87. Lifetime pays off after five months. If your search drags on, or you expect to switch jobs again in a couple of years, it is the one option with no renewal date at all.

The catch: Rezi does not track applications. And three free PDFs disappear quickly when you make one version per job, so save them for the roles you care about most.

Standout features
  • Unlimited AI cover letters, even free
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Lifetime at $149, nothing renews
+Pros
  • ✓A letter for every job at no cost
  • ✓Built around ATS keywords
  • ✓One-time payment available
−Cons
  • ✗Only 3 free PDFs
  • ✗DOCX export is Pro only
  • ✗No application tracking
Verdict

Open Rezi for cover letters: unlimited on the free plan. If you need to export many resume versions, Kickresume gives you more room.

Best tracker with tailoring built in

Huntr

3.7/5

Huntr starts from the other end. It is a job tracker first, with resume tools attached. The free plan tracks up to 100 jobs, includes a Chrome extension to save postings, gives you 2 resumes tailored to a job post, a basic resume-to-job match and a small number of AI credits.

Pro costs $40 a month, $90 every three months ($30 a month) or $160 every six months ($26.66 a month). Pro also makes AI cover letters unlimited. The pricing page lays out each rhythm clearly, which is why billing transparency scores well.

We scored Huntr on the same five criteria as the rest of this ranking. It lands at 3.7: strong on tailoring and on what the free plan lets you organize, weaker on AI writing and on ATS checks, where the free match stays basic.

The catch: 100 jobs is plenty for most searches, but 2 tailored resumes is not. If you tailor every application, you will hit Pro quickly. At that point Teal+ is cheaper by the month.

Standout features
  • Up to 100 tracked jobs free
  • Chrome extension to save postings
  • Unlimited AI cover letters on Pro
+Pros
  • ✓Tracker built for volume
  • ✓Clear 3- and 6-month plans
  • ✓Tailoring linked to each saved job
−Cons
  • ✗Only 2 tailored resumes free
  • ✗Pro at $40/month is the priciest monthly
  • ✗Basic ATS matching on free
Verdict

A solid alternative to Teal if you want the tracker first. For tailoring on a budget, Teal+ costs less per month.

Best free base resume

Kickresume

4.1/5

Kickresume has the highest overall score in our wider ranking, but for an active search you need to know where its free plan stops. Downloads are unlimited, which is still rare. The AI resume and cover letter writer is Premium only, and so is the AI resume checker.

On Premium, the AI writer can build a resume from a job title and the text of a posting. That is a quick first draft for each application. Every plan carries a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Over three months, the quarterly plan costs $54, against $72 paying monthly. The $96 yearly plan only makes sense if you change jobs often. A recurring complaint: a yearly plan bought by mistake, so check the term before you click.

The catch for this page: no application tracking. It helps you build a good resume, not remember which version you sent to which recruiter.

Standout features
  • Unlimited free downloads
  • AI writer that starts from a job post (Premium)
  • 14-day money-back guarantee
+Pros
  • ✓Most generous free export
  • ✓Prices shown before you type anything
  • ✓$54 a quarter for a 3-month search
−Cons
  • ✗AI writer and cover letters are Premium
  • ✗ATS checker is paid
  • ✗No application tracking
Verdict

The right foundation: a free master resume you can export without limits. Pair it with a tracker like Teal or Huntr once applications pile up.

Best for a short paid sprint

Enhancv

3.3/5

Enhancv is a design-first resume builder. Its 7-day free access is a trial, not a free plan: it lasts 7 days, adds a logo, and caps each section at 12 items, so for a search that runs for weeks it is really a paid tool.

Pro costs $39 a month, $69 a quarter or $99 every six months, which works out to $16.50 a month on the longest plan. All three renew automatically. For a three-month search, the quarterly plan at $69 is the sensible choice.

The catch: the free week is too short to judge the tool on a real search, and it has no application tracking. Put the renewal date in your calendar as soon as you subscribe.

Standout features
  • Six-month plan from $16.50/month
  • Quarterly plan at $69
  • Design-led templates
+Pros
  • ✓Clear quarterly and six-month pricing
  • ✓Good fit for a short, intense sprint
  • ✓Polished templates for direct sends
−Cons
  • ✗Free access lasts only 7 days
  • ✗Plans renew automatically
  • ✗No application tracking
Verdict

Worth it for a short, paid sprint with a polished resume. For a long search on a budget, Teal or Kickresume cost less.

Best free ATS check

Novoresume

3.7/5

Novoresume earns its spot for one job: its ATS checker is part of Basic, the free plan, and no card is required. When you juggle several resume versions, that is one more check that costs nothing.

Basic also includes a one-page resume, 8 templates, 30 themes and 2 AI credits a month. The free PDF carries a Novoresume logo, which matters more on a resume emailed to a person than on one uploaded to a job portal.

The catch for an active search: 2 AI credits a month will not tailor a resume to every job, and there is no tracker. Treat it as a checking tool, not your main workspace.

Standout features
  • Free ATS checker
  • No card required
  • 8 templates and 30 themes on Basic
+Pros
  • ✓Nothing to cancel
  • ✓Useful check before each send
  • ✓Free with no time limit
−Cons
  • ✗2 AI credits a month
  • ✗Logo on the free PDF
  • ✗Free resume limited to one page
Verdict

A free check to keep at hand before you hit send. For tailoring in volume, Teal or Rezi do the real work.

Cost of a search

Three months of job hunting: what it really costs

Job searches rarely last a week. The real risk isn't one month's price, it's a subscription that keeps running for months, or after you've signed. Here are the habits that matter, priced over three months.

Match the billing to your search

Over three months, Teal+ costs $79 quarterly, $87 monthly and $169 weekly. Kickresume costs $54 quarterly versus $72 monthly. Huntr's 3-month plan is $90 against $120 paying monthly. Pick the term that fits your sprint, not the smallest number on screen.

Pay once if the search drags on

Rezi Lifetime is $149, once. Rezi Pro is $29 a month. Past five months, Lifetime is cheaper, and you have no renewal date left to watch.

Use the refund windows

Rezi refunds within 30 days on paid plans, Kickresume within 14 days. If a tool didn't help, ask for the refund in writing inside that window before moving on.
  • Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you pay.
  • Cancel as soon as you accept an offer, not at the end of the billing period.
  • Screenshot the cancellation confirmation: it's your proof if a charge slips through.
  • Prefer a quarterly plan to monthly if you expect to search for more than two months.
  • Start free on Teal, Kickresume or Huntr, and only pay when you're applying in volume.
The method

From application one to thirty, without making anything up

A tool doesn't run a job search for you. Here's the method we recommend, drawn from career coaches, official job-search guidance and user feedback.

01

Write one complete master resume

Once

Put everything in one master version: every role, every tool, every number. That's the version you'll tailor. Build it on a free plan, Kickresume for instance, where exports cost nothing. Two pages is fine at this stage; you'll trim for each job.

Free option
Kickresume
02

Only tailor three parts per job

Per job

The summary, the skills list, and two or three bullets from your latest role. The rest barely moves. Rework one role at a time, in three or four bullets, instead of asking AI to rewrite the whole resume: you keep control over every word.

What to tailor
Summary, skills, 2 or 3 bullets
03

Use the posting's exact words for your skills

ATS

Applicant tracking systems look for exact or very close keyword matches. If the post says "project management", don't only write "led initiatives". But only for what you've actually done. Match scores aren't standard from one tool to the next, so aim for consistency, not a number.

Rule
Their words, your real facts
04

Run the five-minute test

Before sending

Reread every line the AI added and ask: could you talk about it for five minutes in an interview, unaided? If not, cut it. AI happily copies skills from the posting and inflates numbers. The interviewer will ask for an example on every line.

Watch for
Copied skills, inflated metrics
05

Let AI shape the letter, not its substance

Letter

Let AI suggest an outline, then write the opening and closing yourself with one specific fact about the company or the role. Generated letters sent as-is read stiff, and recruiters recognize the phrasing. Rezi's unlimited free letters make a good first draft.

Free draft
Rezi, unlimited letters
06

Log every application in a tracker

Organization

For each job, keep the exact resume version you sent, the contact and a follow-up date. Teal's free tracker does it with no cap on saved jobs; Huntr does it up to 100 jobs. When a recruiter calls, you open the right version in ten seconds and know when to chase the others.

FAQ · 8 questions

AI resume builder for job seekers · FAQ

  • How do I tailor my resume to every job without spending the whole evening?
Keep one complete master resume and only rewrite three parts per job: the summary, the skills list and two or three bullets from your latest role. Paste the posting into the tool, then check every word it adds. Rewriting one role at a time, in three or four bullets, works better than asking AI to redo the whole resume.
  • What ATS score should I aim for?
There is no universal number. Each tool calculates its own score, and an 80 in one is not an 80 in another. Aim instead for the skills the posting really asks for to appear in your resume, in the same words. Jobscan, for example, looks for exact or very close keyword matches. Never add a skill you don't have to gain points.
  • Is Jobscan worth paying for?
It depends on how many applications you run through it. Jobscan's free plan adds scans every month, but unused scans only roll over up to 5, so save them for priority jobs. Its paid prices only show after you log in, which is why it isn't ranked here. If you start a trial, the $1 card authorization is temporary, and you can cancel during the trial at no cost.
  • Can recruiters tell a cover letter was written by AI?
Mostly by its style: generic phrases, vague enthusiasm, nothing specific about the company. Reviewers of both Teal and Jobscan say the same thing: generated letters read stiff. Keep the structure the AI suggests, then rewrite the opening and the closing with one concrete fact about the role.
  • What's the best free tool to track job applications?
Teal, whose free tracker has no cap on saved jobs and keeps the resume version, contacts and a follow-up date for each. Huntr is the alternative, free up to 100 jobs with a Chrome extension. Either way, on interview day you'll know exactly which version the recruiter is reading.
  • How much does a month of job searching cost with these tools?
From $0 to $40 depending on the tool. Kickresume is $24 a month, Teal+ and Rezi Pro $29, Enhancv $39, Huntr Pro $40. Over three months, longer plans change the picture: $54 for Kickresume quarterly, $69 for Enhancv, $79 for Teal+, $90 for Huntr.
  • Will AI add skills I don't actually have?
Yes, and it is the biggest trap. When it mirrors a job post, AI often slips the requested skills into your resume even if you've never used them. Read every added line and ask yourself whether you could talk about it for five minutes in an interview, unaided. If not, delete it.
  • Do I need a subscription for my whole search?
No. Build your master resume on a free plan, then pay only during your busiest weeks of applying. Write down the renewal date the day you pay, and cancel once your sprint ends or you sign an offer. If your search runs past five months, Rezi Lifetime at $149 costs less than a subscription.
