What is the best virtual mailbox in 2026?
The cheapest plan is rarely the cheapest bill once you start opening envelopes.
A virtual mailbox gives you a real US street address, photographs every envelope that arrives and scans the letters you want to read. It sounds simple until the first month's bill shows up with $2 per scan, $3 per extra item and storage fees. We compared five services on what you actually pay to receive and read your mail.
The short answer: PostScan Mail for most people, from $10 a month. PhysicalAddress.com if you read most of your mail, with content scans included from $7.98. Stable for a startup that wants every letter opened for free. Earth Class Mail for teams that receive checks, and US Global Mail for free check deposits with no contract.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

How we compared and scored
A virtual mailbox earns its money the day an important letter arrives: an IRS notice, a bank card, a check from a client. If it costs you $3 to read and sits in storage for a week, the cheap plan wasn't cheap.
We read each provider's official pricing page and fee schedule, and user reviews, especially the negative ones. For each service, we compared the plan a small business would actually choose and what it costs to open and scan the letters you need. None of these services has a full Hack'celeration review yet, so the scores are set on this page.
What isn't ranked, and why. iPostal1, Anytime Mailbox and Traveling Mailbox are well-known names, but their official pricing pages didn't give us a readable price grid, and Anytime Mailbox prices each address separately. Virtual Post Mail lists its plans without readable prices. We'll add them when their pricing is clear.

PostScan Mail
PostScan Mail is the safe default. Its entry price is low, its fees are printed on the pricing page, and the plan ladder is easy to read. Starter starts at $10 a month for 30 incoming items. Standard, from $20, gives you 60 items and 5 free open-and-scan requests. Premium, from $30, doubles that: 120 items and 10 scans. Pay yearly and you get two months free.
The catch sits in the Starter plan: it includes no content scans at all. Every envelope you want opened costs $2 for up to 10 pages, then $0.25 per extra page. Forwarding costs $2 for the first item and $0.50 for each additional one, plus postage. Extra incoming items over your plan cost $0.50 each.
Where it falls short: it is built for individuals and small teams. Extra recipients cost $5 a month each, and the higher Business plan jumps to $300 a month.
Tip: count how many letters you actually need to read. At five or more a month, Standard at $20 costs less than Starter plus five $2 scans.
- From $10/mo
- Fees listed in plain sight
- Two months free on annual
- ✓Lowest entry price among the big names
- ✓Clear per-item fees
- ✓Easy plan ladder
- ✗Starter includes zero content scans
- ✗$2 per scan adds up
- ✗Business tier jumps to $300/mo
The best starting point if you get a modest amount of mail: cheap, clear, and easy to upgrade.
PhysicalAddress.com
PhysicalAddress.com is the quiet bargain of this list. Plan 30 costs $7.98 a month and already includes 10 content scans, not just envelope photos. Plan 50 at $10.98 gives you 25 content scans, and Plan 100 at $16.98 gives you 50. Annual plans take 20% off.
Once you hit your limit, each extra scan costs $0.20. Compare that with $2 at PostScan Mail and $3 per extra item at Earth Class Mail. If you read most of what you receive, the math swings hard in its favor.
Other good details: unlimited recipients, free local pickup, free secure shredding, and scanned mail stored for free with no time limit. Letters stay in physical storage for 90 days at no charge.
Its limit: fewer business features. There are no check deposits on its price list and no team workflows like the ones Earth Class Mail and Stable sell. Packages are free for one week only, then $1 a week.
Tip: Plan 50 is the sweet spot for a small LLC. For $3 more than Plan 30, you get 25 content scans and multi-user admin.
- Content scans included from $7.98
- $0.20 per extra scan
- Unlimited recipients
- ✓Cheapest way to read your mail
- ✓Digital storage with no time limit
- ✓Free shredding and pickup
- ✗No check deposit on the price list
- ✗Package storage free for a week only
- ✗Light on team features
The best deal if you want your mail opened and scanned, not just photographed.
Stable
Stable is built for companies, not individuals. Its pitch is simple: open and scan requests are free on every plan. You pay for the volume of mail, not for each envelope you open. Grow costs $49 a month billed yearly for 360 pieces a year. Scale costs $83 a month billed yearly for 600 pieces.
Stable offers a deal worth checking: businesses under $1M in annual revenue, or companies using a Stable address to incorporate, can get 50% off Grow for a year. A registered agent costs $25 a month per state as an add-on.
Its limit: the entry price and overages. $49 a month is five times PostScan Starter. Each piece of mail over your plan costs $3, and extra users cost $20 to $30 a month. Junk mail is filtered for free and doesn't count toward your total.
Tip: ask about the 50% startup discount before you pay. If you qualify, Grow lands close to $25 a month for the first year.
- Free open and scan on every plan
- Junk mail filtered for free
- Startup discount on Grow
- ✓No per-envelope scan fee
- ✓Registered agent add-on
- ✓Built for incorporated companies
- ✗$49/mo entry, billed yearly
- ✗$3 per piece over the limit
- ✗Extra users cost $20 to $30/mo
A strong pick for a young company that wants every letter scanned without counting envelopes.
Earth Class Mail
Earth Class Mail, now part of LegalZoom, is the most business-oriented service here. Plans run from $39 a month (Starter, 5 digitized items, 2 recipients) to $299 (Business MailRoom, 150 items, 50 recipients). Documents of 20 pages or less are scanned at no extra cost, and AI summaries sort your mail.
Check deposits are its real edge. The $39 plan includes 5 checks, then $2 per check. Overnight shipping is free for deposits at Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo. If your customers still pay by check, this is the reason to pick it.
Its limit: the price per item. Five items for $39 is thin, and each item over your plan costs $3. Letters stored past 30 days cost $1.50 a month, and an extra user seat costs $19 a month.
Tip: track your mail for three months before you choose. Above 15 pieces a month, Essentials at $59 beats Starter plus overages.
- Check deposits built in
- Up to 50 recipients
- AI mail summaries
- ✓Made for teams
- ✓Free scans up to 20 pages
- ✓API integrations
- ✗Only 5 items on Starter
- ✗$3 per item over the limit
- ✗Storage fees after 30 days
Worth it when checks and several recipients are part of the job; too expensive for a handful of letters.
US Global Mail
US Global Mail prices vary by address. Its Scale plan shows $49 or $65 a month and includes 360 interior scans a year, about 30 a month, for one user and 10 recipients. Teams shows $99 or $129 a month for 1,200 scans a year and 25 recipients.
Two things are free on every plan: unlimited exterior envelope scans and check deposits. There is no long-term contract, and each plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Its limit: the entry price and the price grid. You start near $50 a month, and the page doesn't label clearly which price applies to monthly or annual billing. Extra interior scans cost $3 each, and extra users $25 a month.
Tip: confirm the exact price of your chosen address and billing period in writing before you sign up.
- Unlimited envelope scans
- Free check deposits
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- ✓No long-term contract
- ✓Checks deposited for free
- ✓Room for 10 to 25 recipients
- ✗Starts near $50/mo
- ✗Monthly vs annual price not labeled
- ✗$3 per extra interior scan
A good fit for a business that wants free check deposits and no contract, if the entry price fits.
Three questions most comparisons skip
Most virtual mailbox lists repeat headline prices. The real differences show up in the fee schedule. Here is what to check.
What does it cost to read a letter?
This is the number that decides your bill. PostScan Mail Starter includes no content scans and charges $2 per envelope. PhysicalAddress.com includes 10 content scans from $7.98, then $0.20 each. Stable and US Global Mail include scans within your plan, then charge $3 per extra piece or scan. Earth Class Mail charges $3 per item over your plan.
Will your bank and the state accept the address?
A virtual mailbox address is a real street address, and each bank or marketplace sets its own rules for accepting it. Ask before you print it on your incorporation papers. If you also need a registered agent, Stable sells one at $25 a month per state.
What happens to packages and old mail?
Storage is where small fees pile up. PhysicalAddress.com keeps letters free for 90 days and packages for one week. Earth Class Mail charges $1.50 a month for letters after 30 days and charges parcels after 10 days. Shred what you don't need and forward packages quickly.
- Count how many letters you need to read each month, not just how many arrive.
- Check the price of the exact address you want: several providers price by location.
- Ask what identity checks the service needs before activation.
- Ask your bank whether it accepts the address for account opening.
- Read the storage and forwarding fees, not just the plan price.
- Pay monthly for the first months, then switch to annual for the discount.
Set up your virtual mailbox in six steps
These steps come from the problems users mention most: surprise fees, delayed activation and mail sent to the wrong place.
The steps
Track your mail for a month
BeforeCount every piece that arrives, how many you need to open, and how many checks and packages you get. With five letters to read, PostScan Standard makes sense; with thirty, look at PhysicalAddress.com or Stable.
- Count
- Letters, letters to read, checks, packages
Pick the address for who reads it
ChoiceChoose a location in the state where you do business or where your company is registered. Prices change by address at several providers, so compare two or three locations before you commit.
- Check
- Price of the exact location
Finish the identity check right away
PriorityEvery service checks who you are before it receives mail in your name. Finish that step on day one, with your ID documents at hand, so activation doesn't stall while letters are already on their way.
- Do it
- On sign-up day
Update your address everywhere at once
MoveList every sender: bank, IRS, state, clients, subscriptions. Update them in the same week so mail doesn't split between two addresses. Keep the old address forwarding until you stop seeing mail there.
- First to update
- Bank, IRS, state filings
Set rules for scans and shredding
UseDecide what gets scanned, forwarded or shredded. Shred junk mail on arrival so it doesn't eat your plan or your storage. If your service offers auto-scan for chosen senders, use it for the bank and the IRS.
- Shred
- Junk on arrival
Review your bill after three months
AfterLook at three months of invoices: scans, overages, storage, forwarding. If extras exceed the gap to the next plan, upgrade. If you never use your allowance, drop a tier or switch to annual billing.
- When
- After three billing cycles
Keep going
These pages pick up where this one stops.
Virtual mailbox · FAQ
Can I use a virtual mailbox address as my business address?
