Wisepops alternatives: where to go and how to take your contacts with you

Nine tools broken down, one per reason to leave, plus a seven-step exit plan.

Short answer: OptiMonk if you want the same tool for less, Getsitecontrol or OptinMonster if pageview billing hurts, Poptin if your traffic is small. Wisepops bills every pageview, stops campaigns at your quota and no longer publishes its pricing. We compared nine alternatives on real price, billing model and what you'll need to rebuild.

The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

The real reasons

Why people leave Wisepops, and why it's a hassle

Wisepops is a full tool: six onsite channels (popups, quizzes, feed, web push, embeds, bars), 50+ integrations and over 1,500 brands. People leave mostly over the bill and how it's calculated.

You pay for every pageview, popup or not

Wisepops bills your site's pageviews, not displays. A page with no campaign still counts, and so do custom events. The vendor also says bot mitigation is minimal by default. It's the most common complaint in reviews.

Campaigns stop at your quota

Without Extra Pageviews, campaigns stop showing until you upgrade or the month resets. The add-on costs 1.5x your base rate, capped at double your plan. It isn't available if you pay through Shopify.

Pricing you can't read anymore

The Wisepops pricing page no longer shows tiers. It offers a traffic audit. Two prices are still public: $299 a month on the Shopify App Store, up to 500,000 pageviews, and a managed plan from $499 a month. Price grids floating around elsewhere don't come from the vendor.

No free plan

No free tier and no self-serve trial on the site: a 7-day behavioral audit, or 14 days through Shopify. For a small store, $299 a month to start is steep, and several reviews say so.

An interface people call dated

Long-time customers say the tool hasn't changed much in years, and the vendor acknowledged it in a reply. Others can't see in their email tool which popup a subscriber came from.

Patchy support during the trial

Some Shopify merchants describe a trial with no real help despite several requests. Wisepops replied by offering a free month. Others rate support well, but the trial is when you need it most.

9 alternatives

Wisepops alternatives, tool by tool

For each tool: why switch, who it's for, the catch, how to move, and the price. Prices are in US dollars, excluding tax.

01

OptiMonk: same job, plus a real free plan

Closest to Wisepops

Why switch to OptiMonk. It covers the most Wisepops ground: popups, bars, embedded forms, fine targeting, A/B tests and an AI agent. It also bills by pageview, so the logic stays the same. The price doesn't. The free plan is permanent: 10,000 pageviews a month on one domain, with no end date.

Who it's for. Stores and content sites that want to keep a specialist tool with the same targeting depth, without booking a demo to find out the price.

Who it's not for. Anyone leaving Wisepops because of pageview billing. Every pageview counts here too.

The catch. The tiers jump hard. Essential is $19/month billed yearly ($29 monthly) for 20,000 pageviews. Growth goes to $69/month on annual billing ($99 monthly) for 100,000. Premium is $179/month on annual billing ($249 monthly) for 500,000.

How to move. There's no Wisepops import. Rebuild your three best campaigns from screenshots, connect your email tool, and pull the Wisepops script the day the new ones go live. At 500,000 pageviews, Premium billed yearly costs $179 a month against $299 for the Wisepops Shopify plan.

02

OptinMonster: you pay for popups shown, not pages viewed

Pay for displays, not visits

Why switch to OptinMonster. It counts impressions, meaning the times a popup actually shows. That's the opposite of the top complaint about Wisepops, which counts every pageview, even with no campaign on screen and bots included. If only one visitor in ten sees a popup, the gap is huge.

Who it's for. WordPress sites, where it's most at home, and sites that target only a few pages: an exit popup on product pages, a bar on the blog.

Who it's not for. Anyone who wants a long free run. There's no free plan, only a 500-impression trial and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

The catch. The entry price lasts one year. Basic shows $9/month, billed $108 the first year, then $210 at renewal, for one site and 2,500 impressions. Growth goes from $804 to $1,470 a year for 5 sites and 100,000 impressions. Always budget the second year.

How to move. Pull the monthly display count of your Wisepops campaigns from your reports. That number, not your pageviews, sets your OptinMonster plan. Before you commit, our guide to switching from OptinMonster shows what renewal looks like.

Getsitecontrol: unlimited traffic for $29 a month

Cheapest at high traffic

Why switch to Getsitecontrol. It's the most direct fix for pageview billing. It counts widget views, not visits, and its Pro Max plan has no cap for $29 a month. A site with 500,000 pageviews pays about a tenth of the Wisepops Shopify price.

Who it's for. High-traffic sites running forms, bars and standard popups that don't need product recommendations or elaborate quizzes.

Who it's not for. Ecommerce teams living on deep targeting and many A/B tests. It's simpler than Wisepops.

The catch. On a capped plan, widgets stop at the limit until the next cycle, just like Wisepops. Free covers 10,000 widget views, Pro 100,000 for $19. Emails sent from the tool cost extra, $1.40 to $2 per 1,000.

How to move. Rebuild campaigns by hand, connect your email tool, and stay on Pro unless you go past 100,000 widget views.

Poptin: start small, no credit card

Cheapest at low traffic

Why switch to Poptin. Wisepops has no free plan and starts at $299 a month on Shopify. Poptin is free for 1,000 visitors, and Basic is $25 a month for 10,000 visitors. Signing up doesn't ask for a card.

Who it's for. Small stores and service sites that found Wisepops too pricey for their traffic and need a welcome popup, a discount wheel and a form.

Who it's not for. Sites with hundreds of thousands of visitors. Agency tops out at $119 a month for 150,000.

The catch. The free plan shows Poptin branding on one domain. Pro is $59 a month for 50,000 visitors and 4 domains.

How to move. Run one campaign on the free plan, compare its signup rate with Wisepops, then upgrade before you cut over.

Sleeknote: the closest ecommerce mindset

Ecommerce-first

Why switch to Sleeknote. Like Wisepops, it's a European vendor (Danish) built for online stores: cart-based targeting, segment campaigns and an optional games add-on. Its pricing is public, by visitor band.

Who it's for. Mid-size stores that want Wisepops-level comfort and a readable price before any demo.

Who it's not for. Small sites. No free plan, and entry is $55 a month billed yearly.

The catch. Price climbs with traffic: $55 yearly ($69 monthly) up to 25,000 visitors, $192 for 125,000 to 200,000, $376 for 300,000 to 500,000. Gamification is extra, from $76 a month yearly. Above 500,000, it's a quote.

How to move. Use the 14-day trial to rebuild your two best campaigns and run them side by side, on different pages, before switching Wisepops off.

Privy: popups and email in one Shopify app

For Shopify

Why switch to Privy. The Wisepops Shopify plan is $299 a month. Privy's Pop-ups & Displays starts at $24 a month for 10,000 pageviews, and you can add email from $30 a month. It also syncs with Klaviyo.

Who it's for. Shopify, BigCommerce and Wix merchants who want to capture signups and send a welcome code without stacking tools.

Who it's not for. WordPress sites. Privy doesn't lead with it.

The catch. It also bills by pageview, and the top end climbs fast: $84 for 50,000 pageviews, $420 for 500,000. At that volume, Wisepops on Shopify ($299 up to 500,000) is cheaper again.

How to move. The 15-day trial needs no card. Uninstall Wisepops only after Privy campaigns are live, and remember the current Wisepops Shopify period is charged in full.

Klaviyo: the forms built into your email tool

If you already use Klaviyo

Why switch to Klaviyo. Plenty of stores use Wisepops just to feed a Klaviyo list. Klaviyo has its own signup forms (popup, embed, bar), even on the free plan. You drop one tool and one sync.

Who it's for. Stores that only use Wisepops for newsletter signups and the welcome code.

Who it's not for. Anyone relying on the Wisepops onsite feed, web push or quizzes. Klaviyo doesn't replace those.

The catch. Free stops at 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month. Past that, you're paying for email, not forms.

How to move. Recreate the form in Klaviyo, keep the same list and welcome flow, and check that a new signup triggers it before removing Wisepops. If Klaviyo already feels expensive, read our guide to switching from Klaviyo first.

Hello Bar: the simplest option for a few messages

For a simple bar and popup

Why switch to Hello Bar. One gripe shows up in Wisepops reviews: no sticky bar at the top of the page. Hello Bar started as that bar. It adds simple popups and bills popup views, not all your pageviews.

Who it's for. Sites showing two or three messages (an offer, a shipping banner, a signup) and nothing more.

Who it's not for. Teams that personalize by cart, journey or segment. It stays basic. Our Hello Bar review scores it 3.4 out of 5.

The catch. Free gives 5,000 views in total, not per month, with Hello Bar branding. Then Growth is $29 a month (50,000 views), Premium $49 (150,000), Elite $99 (500,000). Overages cost $5 per block of views.

How to move. Recreate your bar and main popup, connect your email tool, then remove the Wisepops script. Tier details are on our Hello Bar pricing page, and its rivals in our Hello Bar alternatives.

Justuno: done-for-you at $299 instead of $499

Keep a managed service

Why switch to Justuno. The managed Wisepops plan starts at $499 a month. Justuno's Done-For-You plan, where its team builds your campaigns, is $299 a month for 20,000 visitors, with a 30-day trial.

Who it's for. Brands with nobody in-house to build and test campaigns, who paid Wisepops mainly for the strategist.

Who it's not for. High-traffic sites. 20,000 visitors is thin for $299.

The catch. No free plan. Self-serve Lite is $59 a month, no contract, for 10,000 visitors. Yearly takes off 10%.

How to move. Hand Justuno your screenshots, targeting rules and Wisepops conversion rates. That's what their rebuild starts from.

The 9 alternatives side by side

What matters most is what the tool counts. Per pageview, every visit costs you. Per impression or widget view, only popups shown count. At 500,000 pageviews, the range runs from $29 (Getsitecontrol Pro Max) to $420 (Privy).

Exit plan

Leaving Wisepops in seven steps

Order matters: each step protects your subscribers, their consent or your revenue.

01

List everything that's running

First

For each live campaign, write down its format (popup, bar, embed, quiz, web push, onsite feed), targeting rules, triggers, A/B tests and conversion rate. Screenshot it on desktop and mobile. No tool imports Wisepops campaigns, so these screenshots are all you'll rebuild from.

Time
one hour to half a day
If rushed
forgotten campaigns
02

Export contacts one campaign at a time

Before cutover

Wisepops has no global export. In each campaign, open the actions menu and download contacts: the CSV lands in your inbox. One campaign, one file. Do the same for notification campaigns. Keep the consent date and text for every contact.

Where
each campaign's actions menu
If rushed
lost subscribers
03

Accept that web push starts from zero

Know this

Web push subscribers can't be moved by file between providers. They resubscribe when they come back to your site. Keep Wisepops running a few weeks if push matters to you, and prompt a resubscribe as soon as the new tool is live.

What you lose
your push subscriber base
Workaround
short overlap
04

Rebuild the profitable campaigns first

Week 1

Start with the two or three campaigns that bring the most signups or sales. Recreate the design, targeting and triggers. The onsite feed and AI recommendations have few equivalents: decide whether to cover them another way or drop them.

Order
most to least profitable
If rushed
signups dip
05

Reconnect email and automations

Week 1

Reconnect Klaviyo or your email tool with the same lists and tags so the welcome flow keeps firing. Redo every Zapier or Make automation that started in Wisepops. Sign up yourself to check the welcome code arrives.

Check
lists, tags, welcome flow
If rushed
signups with no email
06

Remove the Wisepops script everywhere

Cutover day

The code can live in your site, Google Tag Manager, a WordPress plugin, a Magento extension or the Shopify app. Remove it everywhere or two popups show at once. On Shopify installs from before 2022, delete the include line in theme.liquid and the wisepops-generated.liquid snippet. Custom events wired into your code need rewriting for the new tool.

Where to look
site, GTM, plugin, Shopify theme
If rushed
double popups
07

Cancel at the right moment

End of cycle

Cancel under Settings, then Billing. Wisepops help doesn't say what happens to your contacts after: export first. If you pay through Shopify, uninstalling the app is enough, but the current period is charged in full. Uninstall just before renewal.

Switching pitfalls

What makes a Wisepops exit go wrong

These come from Wisepops help docs and merchant feedback. None is technical, and every one costs subscribers or money.

Exporting one contact file

Each campaign has its own export. Grab only one and you lose the rest. Count campaigns and files before cutting over.

Leaving a script behind

An old Shopify snippet or a stray GTM tag, and Wisepops keeps showing next to the new tool. Worse, its pageviews keep counting.

Cancelling mid-cycle on Shopify

The current period is due in full if you pay through Shopify. Uninstalling early in the cycle means paying a month for nothing.

Assuming web push follows you

Push subscribers stay with the old provider. Plan a resubscribe campaign or accept starting over.

Losing consent records

A contact without a consent date and text is a compliance risk under GDPR and similar laws. Keep those columns, and use double opt-in for new signups.

Switching billing models blind

Moving from pageviews to visitors or impressions changes everything. Take your real traffic and display counts for the last three months and size the plan before you sign.

  • Campaign list with screenshots, targeting and conversion rates
  • One CSV per campaign, received by email
  • Consent columns kept
  • Plan sized on real traffic
  • Profitable campaigns rebuilt first
  • Email tool reconnected, welcome flow checked
  • Zapier or Make automations redone
  • Wisepops script removed from site, GTM and theme
  • Cancellation timed to the renewal date
FAQ · 8 questions

Wisepops alternatives: common questions

  • How much does Wisepops cost?

Wisepops no longer publishes a full price list. Two prices are public: $299 a month (or $2,990 a year) on the Shopify App Store, up to 500,000 pageviews, and a managed plan from $499 a month. Yearly billing gives two months free. For anything else, the vendor offers a traffic audit.

  • Is there a free Wisepops alternative?

Yes. OptiMonk is free up to 10,000 pageviews a month, Getsitecontrol up to 10,000 widget views, Poptin up to 1,000 visitors. Klaviyo includes forms on its free plan of 250 profiles. Hello Bar gives 5,000 views, but in total, not per month.

  • Can I move my Wisepops popups to another tool?

No. No tool imports Wisepops campaigns. You rebuild them from screenshots, targeting rules and conversion rates. Only contacts come out, as CSV, one campaign at a time.

  • What happens when I go over my pageview quota?

Without the overage add-on, campaigns stop showing until next month or an upgrade. With it, extra pageviews cost 1.5x your base rate, up to double your plan. The add-on isn't available if you're billed through Shopify.

  • What's the best Wisepops alternative for Shopify?

Privy if you want popups and email in one app, from $24 a month. Klaviyo if you already send email there. OptiMonk for the targeting closest to Wisepops. Our ranking of ecommerce email tools covers the email side.

  • Is Wisepops worth it for a small business?

Yes if your traffic is high and you use its six channels. No if you only show a signup form: $299 a month for one popup is a lot next to free tools or $25 plans.

  • Does Wisepops count bot traffic?

The vendor says bot mitigation is minimal by default, and every pageview counts even with no campaign shown. If your site draws a lot of bots, usage can climb with no extra real visitors.

  • Do I need an agency to switch popup tools?

Not for a handful of campaigns: plan one to two weeks with the steps on this page. Yes if you run dozens of campaigns, web push and several syncs. The Hack'celeration team can handle it, see our lead generation agency.
