Yodeck alternatives: where to go and how to switch without a blank screen
Eight platforms reviewed, one pick per reason to leave, and a six-step switching plan.
The short answer: OptiSigns if you want a lower price per screen and a free plan that covers 3 screens, ScreenCloud for internal company screens, Kitcast if your displays run on Apple TV or Fire TV, Screenly if you want hardware bundled without Yodeck, Rise Vision for K-12 schools with lots of screens. Two things to know before you go. Yodeck has no bulk export for your media, so keep your source files. And dropping your plan to one screen moves you back to the free tier without deleting your account. We compared all eight destinations and checked their official pricing in 2026.

Why teams leave Yodeck, and what holds them back
Yodeck is still the easiest digital signage software to recommend to a small business: one free screen, a fast setup, and public reviews that are overwhelmingly positive. People leave for other reasons: a bill that grows with every screen, a player tied to the annual plan, and the odd hardware failure that drags on. Here are six, each checked against Yodeck's own pages or user reviews.
Every screen adds a line to the invoice
Yodeck charges per screen per month with no cap: Basic $8, Premium $12, Enterprise $16. The listed price is the same monthly or yearly. Ten Premium screens cost $120 a month, $1,440 a year. The free plan covers a single screen, so the day you add a second one, your whole fleet goes paid.
A 2026 price increase on the upper plans
In spring 2026 Yodeck added $1 per screen per month to Premium and Enterprise; Basic stayed put. Monthly customers paid the new price right away, annual customers get it at renewal, and screens added mid-contract can come in at the new rate. Multi-year contracts are honored. If your renewal is close, now is the time to compare.
The free player locks you into annual billing
The Yodeck Player is free with an annual plan (1 GB of RAM on Basic, 4 GB on Premium and Enterprise), or swapped for a discount if you bring your own device: $20 per screen on Basic, $70 on Premium and Enterprise. Monthly plans come with no free player. Leaving mid-year is never free, and Yodeck publishes no refund policy for an annual plan already underway.
Players that drop out, support that lags
Recent negative reviews tell a similar story: a device that freezes, goes offline or stops syncing, a returned player whose replacement never seems to arrive, and slow answers while a store screen sits black. These reviews are a minority, and Yodeck does not reply to them publicly. If your display matters (a menu board, a reception screen), response time matters more than price.
The useful features sit above Basic
Importing playlists from a CSV file is limited to Premium and Enterprise. Yodeck Assurance, the lifetime player warranty, costs $1 per player per month and is only free on annual Premium as a promotion. Several users also say the customization tools are hard to find. Many Basic accounts end up on Premium, at $12 a screen.
Leaving takes some prep
Yodeck's help center offers no way to bulk export your media or playlists. Your images and videos have to come from your original files. On the account side, canceling does not delete it: dropping to one screen moves you to the free plan, and full deletion is a separate request that cannot be undone.
You're leaving because… go to…

Yodeck alternatives, one by one
For each platform: why move there, who it fits, its limit, how to switch from Yodeck, and what it costs. Prices are the ones each vendor lists for the US in 2026. 1Play only lists euros, so its prices stay in euros.
The platforms
OptiSigns: pay less per screen, keep the same habits
Cheaper per screenWhy move to OptiSigns. It is the closest thing to Yodeck, for less once you pay yearly. Standard costs $9 per screen per month billed yearly ($10 monthly), Pro $11.25, Pro Plus $13.50. Its free plan covers 3 screens, 3 users and 1 GB of storage, where Yodeck stops at one screen. Review directories also list it first among Yodeck alternatives more often than any other tool.
Who it fits. Stores, restaurants and small businesses running 2 to 20 screens that want the same simplicity at a lower price.
Who it doesn't. Anyone who wants a player bundled with the subscription: OptiSigns sells its devices separately.
Its limit. The free plan shows the OptiSigns logo on screen, caps each playlist at 30 items and 200 MB, and each file at 25 MB. There are a lot of features to learn, and a few customers report technical tickets that take a while.
How to switch. OptiSigns runs on its own devices plus Windows, Linux and Raspberry Pi. Open a free account, install it on a pilot screen, reupload your original files and rebuild the playlist. Three screens fit in the free plan, so you can run both platforms side by side without paying twice.
- Free
- 3 screens, OptiSigns logo
- Paid
- Standard $9/screen/mo yearly
- Best for
- 2 to 20 screens
- Limit
- 30-item playlists on free
ScreenCloud: built for internal company screens
Company screensWhy move to ScreenCloud. ScreenCloud targets office, factory and warehouse screens: dashboards, internal news, leadership messages, with the team management that goes with them. If Yodeck feels built for the storefront more than the workplace, this is the step up.
Who it fits. Companies rolling out screens across several sites for internal communication.
Who it doesn't. A two-screen shop. Several users who moved from ScreenCloud to Yodeck said it was way too expensive for their needs.
Its limit. Price: Core $20 and Pro $30 per screen per month, billed yearly, Enterprise by quote. Monthly billing exists, but the page only shows the yearly prices (up to 16% cheaper).
How to switch. The trial runs 14 days with no card. On annual plans ScreenCloud mentions a free player or a discount without giving the amount, so get it in writing before you sign.
- Trial
- 14 days, no card
- Paid
- Core $20/screen/mo yearly
- Best for
- internal comms
- Limit
- high price, dollars only
Kitcast: when your screens run on Apple TV or Fire TV
Apple TV and Fire TVWhy move to Kitcast. Kitcast runs on a long list of devices: Apple TV, Fire TV, Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) smart TVs, BrightSign, Windows, Raspberry Pi, Android and ChromeOS. If your fleet mixes brands, you skip buying a player per screen. Starter is $7 per screen per month billed yearly ($9 monthly), Pro $10 yearly ($14 monthly).
Who it fits. Shops and offices already equipped with Apple TV or recent smart TVs.
Who it doesn't. Anyone who wants a free screen to keep: Kitcast has no free plan.
Its limit. The advanced features need Pro, which brings the yearly price close to Yodeck Premium.
How to switch. The Pro trial lasts 14 days with no card: install the app on the device you will actually use. Kitcast also advertises a 30-day guarantee, handy if you commit to a year.
- Trial
- 14 days, no card
- Paid
- Starter $7/screen/mo yearly
- Best for
- Apple TV, smart TVs
- Limit
- no free plan
Screenly: hardware included, or the open-source route
Player includedWhy move to Screenly. Screenly matches Yodeck on one point: the Business plan ($24 per screen per month) includes a free player on yearly billing. Starter, at $15, covers 1 to 5 screens without a player. For tinkerers, Screenly also publishes Anthias, free open-source software for Raspberry Pi and PC.
Who it fits. Teams that want bundled hardware outside Yodeck, and technical users ready to set up Anthias.
Who it doesn't. Tight budgets: Screenly costs more per screen than Yodeck. Anthias does not handle 4K.
Its limit. Yearly billing only, and Enterprise starts at 25 screens.
How to switch. Use the 14-day trial, no card, on a pilot screen, then order players with the Business plan so you don't pay for them separately.
- Trial
- 14 days, no card
- Paid
- Starter $15/screen/mo, yearly
- Free option
- Anthias, open source
- Limit
- yearly billing only
Rise Vision: flat pricing for K-12 schools
K-12 schoolsWhy move to Rise Vision. Rise Vision focuses on education, with a plan Yodeck doesn't offer: $1,399 per school per year for unlimited screens, K-12 only. For a school that fills its hallways with displays, the bill stops growing with every screen.
Who it fits. K-12 schools and districts with many screens.
Who it doesn't. A business: without the school plan, Basic at $11 per screen per month costs more than Yodeck Basic.
Its limit. No free plan. Advanced is $138 per screen per year, Enterprise $164.
How to switch. Count your screens: from 11 screens on Basic, the school plan costs less. Confirm your school qualifies before you compare.
- Free
- no
- Paid
- Basic $11/screen/mo
- Flat plan
- $1,399/year per school
- Limit
- K-12 only for flat plan
piSignage: two free screens for life, or your own server
2 free screensWhy move to piSignage. You get 2 free screens for life, against one at Yodeck. After that, a new player costs $35 the first year and $20 a year after. That works out to under $2 a month per screen from year two. If you'd rather not depend on a cloud service, piSignage also installs on your own server.
Who it fits. Small fleets on a tight budget, and teams with someone comfortable with a Raspberry Pi.
Who it doesn't. A store owner who wants an interface as guided as Yodeck's and phone support.
Its limit. Self-hosting makes updates and backups your job.
How to switch. Start with the two free screens. Move your two simplest screens, watch them for a week, then add the rest at $35 each.
- Free
- 2 screens for life
- Paid
- $35 first year, then $20/yr
- Best for
- small fleet, tight budget
- Limit
- Raspberry Pi skills needed
Xibo: open source for teams that want control
Open sourceWhy move to Xibo. Its Windows player is open source (AGPLv3), and you can host the whole platform yourself. No more depending on a vendor's price list.
Who it fits. Organizations with an IT team that want to own their data and servers.
Who it doesn't. A small business with no technician. Several users who moved from Xibo to Yodeck cited usability and support.
Its limit. The hosted plan is quote-only, with no public price. Xibo itself warns that self-hosting often costs more overall once you count time and maintenance.
How to switch. The trial covers 14 days on 2 players, enough to validate your hardware before you request a quote.
- Trial
- 14 days, 2 players
- Paid
- hosted, by quote
- Best for
- teams with IT
- Limit
- maintenance is on you
1Play: pay per screen-day, no subscription
No subscriptionWhy move to 1Play. Its model is the opposite of Yodeck's: no subscription, no renewal. You buy days of active screen time at €0.19 per screen per day, or €5.70 per 30 days, falling to €0.13 a day from 36,000 days in one order. 1Play only lists prices in euros. A seasonal screen costs nothing while it is off.
Who it fits. Fleets that run in bursts (seasons, events, trade shows) and teams that can set up a Raspberry Pi.
Who it doesn't. Anyone who wants a ready-made player: you supply the Raspberry Pi.
Its limit. Days are prepaid and non-refundable. Start with a small order, then go bigger to reach the volume tiers.
How to switch. Use the 30-day trial on a pilot screen and reupload your media from your original files.
- Trial
- 30 days
- Price
- €0.19/screen/day
- Best for
- seasonal screens
- Limit
- euro pricing, bring your own Pi
Yodeck and its 8 alternatives, compared
Our default pick: OptiSigns if you want Yodeck's simplicity for less, ScreenCloud if the screens are for employees rather than customers. For scale, take three screens for a year: Yodeck Basic costs $288 with three players included, OptiSigns Standard $324 billed yearly with no player, Kitcast Starter $252 billed yearly on your own devices. Hardware changes the ranking, so price it in before you compare.

Leave Yodeck in six steps
Order matters. Each step protects something: your content, your live screens, and the money you have already paid.
The steps
Inventory your screens and content
Day 1List every screen: location, player (Yodeck Player, smart TV, other device), resolution, orientation. For each one, note what it shows: playlists, schedules, apps (weather, social feeds, web pages). Take a screenshot of every layout.
Also note your annual renewal date and each screen's plan. On a yearly plan, the cleanest exit lines up with renewal.
- Time
- about an hour for a small fleet
- Risk if rushed
- a forgotten screen
Gather your original media
CriticalYodeck has no bulk export for media. Track down the original file of every image and video: shared drive, design tool, USB stick. Sort them into one folder per screen.
Anything built directly in Yodeck (layouts, text) gets rebuilt on the new platform from your screenshots.
- Risk if rushed
- lost visuals
Check hardware on the new platform
Each platform has its own device list. OptiSigns supports Windows, Linux and Raspberry Pi; Kitcast supports Apple TV, Fire TV and Samsung or LG TVs; piSignage and 1Play need a Raspberry Pi. Check before you rebuild anything.
Planning to reuse the Yodeck Player? It's a Raspberry Pi, and reflashing wipes its SD card. Yodeck doesn't say that's supported with other software, so ask first. A player bought within the last 30 days gets a full refund if it goes back in its original packaging with the SD card.
- Player refund
- 30 days after purchase
- Refund time
- 5 to 7 business days
Move one pilot screen during the trial
During the trialPick the least critical screen. Install the new platform, rebuild its playlists and schedules, and let it run a full week. Cut the Wi-Fi for an hour to see whether it keeps playing.
Trials run 14 days (Kitcast, ScreenCloud, Screenly, Xibo) to 30 days (1Play), so start the pilot on day one.
- Time
- one week
- Check
- one-hour network cut
Move the other screens one at a time
Switch screens one by one, ideally outside opening hours. Each time a screen runs on the new platform, remove it from your Yodeck plan so you stop paying for it.
Leave critical screens (menu boards, reception) for last, once you know the new tool.
- Risk if rushed
- black storefront screen
Drop Yodeck to free, then decide
Last stepOnce only one screen is left on Yodeck, the account moves to the free plan automatically. It doesn't vanish: your content stays available at no cost. Keep it for a month to make sure nothing is missing.
Only then request full deletion if you want it. It is permanent.
- Free account cost
- $0
- Deletion
- permanent

What makes a Yodeck exit go wrong
The same mistakes come up every time someone changes digital signage platforms. None of them is really technical. They are oversights, and each one costs you a black screen or months paid for nothing.
Canceling before the new screen is live
Keep Yodeck running until every screen has shown the new schedule for several days. Remove screens from your plan as you go: at one screen, the account drops to free and costs nothing.
Counting on an export that isn't there
Yodeck has no bulk export for media or playlists. If your visuals were built inside Yodeck or the originals are gone, rebuild them before you leave. A screenshot of each layout makes that much faster.
Deleting the account too early
Full deletion is permanent. A free account keeps everything at no cost, which makes it your backup while you confirm nothing is missing.
Forgetting the hardware cost
A low per-screen price means little if you need a new player for each screen. Compare the first-year cost, hardware included, for your real fleet. Our guide to the best digital signage software runs that math for 3 and 10 screens.
Reflashing the player without a plan
The Yodeck Player is a Raspberry Pi, and reflashing it wipes the whole SD card. Yodeck says nothing about reusing it with other software, so ask Yodeck first and budget for a compatible device on the new platform.
Signing yearly without a pilot
Screenly only bills yearly, and ScreenCloud only shows its yearly prices. Run your pilot screen through the whole trial before you commit, and ask in writing what the free player or discount covers.
- List of every screen, its player and its location
- Original media files saved outside Yodeck
- Screenshot of every layout and schedule
- Annual renewal date noted
- Hardware compatibility with the new platform confirmed
- One pilot screen switched and watched for several days
- Screens moved one at a time, Yodeck plan reduced as you go
- Yodeck account dropped to free instead of deleted
- Player bought in the last 30 days returned complete if you want the refund
Yodeck alternatives: frequently asked questions
What is the best free alternative to Yodeck?
OptiSigns, with 3 free screens, though its logo shows on screen and each playlist is capped at 30 items. piSignage gives you 2 free screens for life. Anthias, Screenly's open-source software, is free with no screen limit if you can set up a Raspberry Pi, but it doesn't play 4K.
How much does digital signage software cost per screen?
From $0 to about $30 per screen per month on entry and mid-tier plans, plus the player. Yodeck runs $8 to $16, OptiSigns from $9 billed yearly, Kitcast from $7 yearly, ScreenCloud $20 to $30. Our guide to the best digital signage software works out the yearly cost for 3 and 10 screens.
Do I need a media player for digital signage?
Not always. Kitcast and others run directly on Apple TV, Fire TV and many Samsung or LG smart TVs. 1Play and piSignage need a Raspberry Pi. Yodeck ships a free player with annual plans, and Screenly does on its Business plan.
What happens to my Yodeck account if I cancel?
Nothing gets deleted. Dropping to one screen moves the account to the free plan, and your content stays. Full deletion is a separate request and it is permanent. Keep the free account until your new setup is confirmed.
Can I reuse my Yodeck Player with other software?
The player is a Raspberry Pi, so in theory it can run other Raspberry Pi signage software. But reflashing wipes its SD card, and Yodeck doesn't say that use is supported. Ask Yodeck before counting on it.
Can I get a refund on a Yodeck Player?
Yes, in full, if you return it within 30 days of purchase in its original packaging with the SD card. The refund lands in 5 to 7 business days. For an annual subscription already underway, Yodeck publishes no refund policy, so ask support before canceling.
Did Yodeck raise its prices?
Yes. In spring 2026, Premium and Enterprise went up by $1 per screen per month, to $12 and $16; Basic stayed at $8. Annual customers see the increase at renewal, and multi-year contracts are honored.
What is the best digital signage software for a small business?
For one screen, Yodeck's free plan is hard to beat. From two to twenty screens, OptiSigns usually costs less with the same ease of use. If your screens are Apple TVs or smart TVs, Kitcast saves you buying players.
