What changes when Claude can query Cortellis CMC
CMC, short for chemistry, manufacturing and controls, is the part of a drug file that proves a product can be made consistently and safely. Requirements differ by region and by stage. With this connector, a regulatory affairs specialist asks Claude a CMC question in plain language and Claude queries Clarivate's database, then answers with references to the regulatory sources behind it.
Check a requirement before drafting. A CMC writer preparing a submission section asks what a given region expects for a biologic's manufacturing changes, and Cortellis_CMC_Intelligence_Agent searches Clarivate's curated content to answer.
Cover both sides of approval. The listing says the content spans pre-approval and post-approval requirements, so the same tool serves a first filing and a later variation.
Keep the sources in view. Answers come back with references to authoritative regulatory sources, which matters when a reviewer asks where a statement comes from.
What it will not do: it reaches only the content your Cortellis subscription and licenses cover, and it needs a valid Cortellis CMC Intelligence subscription to work at all. It answers; its sheet exposes no tool that files, tracks or edits anything. Nothing runs by itself either: no alert reaches you when a guideline changes. Watching sources on a schedule is a job for an automation tool, a different trade covered from the Integrations hub.
Five words before you connect
The Claude vocabulary used on this page.
- Connector
- A link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can query it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named action a connector gives Claude. This connector has a single one, which Claude calls by itself when your question needs it.
- Authorization
- The service's own sign-in screen, where you log in to Cortellis and grant the access Claude will use. It can be revoked.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before an action that changes an account, shown in the conversation when it matters.
- MCP
- The common standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Cortellis.
Connect Cortellis CMC Intelligence in three steps
- 01
Find it in the list
Open Claude's settings, go to Customize and then Connectors, and look for Cortellis CMC Intelligence. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables it before members can each sign in.
- 02
Sign in to Cortellis
Click Connect on its row and sign in to Cortellis CMC Intelligence in the window Clarivate opens. If the connection breaks later, Disconnect and connect again.
- 03
Read the authorization
Check the authorization screen before you accept it. It belongs to the service, not to Claude, and it decides what the access covers. Access granted there can be withdrawn later.
The single tool, on the reading side
Cortellis CMC Intelligence gives Claude 1 tool: 1 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.
One tool that searches and answers, and changes nothing. Its name stays exactly as Claude shows it.

What Claude reads (1)
1 toolA search across Clarivate's curated CMC content, which leaves everything as it is.
Cortellis_CMC_Intelligence_Agent
Gives Claude access to Clarivate's database of global chemistry, manufacturing and controls requirements for small molecule and biologic drug products, so a plain-language question gets an answer with references.
What Claude asks before acting
By default, Claude stops and asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for someone.
The only tool here reads, and no source describes a specific confirmation for it, so the default rule applies. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a prompt each time, and they can restrict what a connector may do for the whole organization. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected, so it sees only the Cortellis content that person's subscription opens.
Which Claude plans can use it
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector. That is a real hole in the catalog, not in our research.
The general rule is the only published one: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members connect. Separately, Clarivate requires a Cortellis subscription on its side. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only page showing its live state.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls the tool while it answers, so nothing happens when a CMC guideline is updated.
Only Clarivate documents this connector: no Claude help page covers it. By default its sheet exposes reading only, an observed floor rather than a promise, since an administrator can open actions that no public sheet lists. The directory badge is no security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it does not pick a publisher's tools or guarantee their behavior. For a connector from a very different field, see the Claude adobe-workfront connector.
