Claude Anthropic Economic Index connectorWhat Claude can tell you from the Anthropic Economic Index.
The Claude Anthropic Economic Index connector exposes 9 tools. 6 read the public dataset on how Claude is used, 0 write, and 3 are described nowhere. Ask about countries, regions, occupations or tasks and get answers from the Index itself. Below: what it covers and what it does not measure.

What you can ask Claude once the Index is connected
The Anthropic Economic Index is a public dataset, published by Anthropic, that tracks how Claude is used across countries, occupations and tasks, measured from Claude conversations. The connector lets you question it in the chat: a policy analyst, a journalist or a manager curious about their own field gets answers grounded in the Index data rather than in general knowledge.
The big picture. You ask how Claude is used worldwide; Claude calls econ_index_get_global_usage for global usage patterns.
A place you care about. A regional development officer asks what people in their area use Claude for: econ_index_get_usage_by_country and econ_index_get_usage_by_subregion cover country and subregion profiles, and econ_index_compare_regions sets two regions side by side.
A job or a task. An HR lead asks which occupations use AI most, or what kinds of tasks teachers bring to Claude: econ_index_get_occupation_usage and econ_index_list_top_work_tasks give the occupation and task breakdowns. Anthropic suggests starting broad, then drilling down, and asking Claude for the underlying data behind any answer.
What it does not do: the directory sheet calls it read-only, so it changes nothing anywhere, and it touches no personal account. Three of its tools are not described by any source. The Index reflects patterns in Claude usage, not the labour market as a whole. And nothing runs on its own: a monthly data pull is a job for an automation tool, a different trade introduced on the Integrations hub.
Five words before you enable it
The Claude vocabulary this page relies on.
- Connector
- A link set up once between Claude and an outside source, so Claude can draw on it while it answers. Here the source is a public dataset.
- Tool
- One named query the connector opens to Claude. Claude chooses which ones to call while it answers, and the directory lists them by name.
- Authorization
- The sign-in screen of a service, where you grant Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and it can be withdrawn later.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before changing something in an account, shown in the conversation when it applies.
- MCP
- The shared standard behind connectors, which is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as this Index.
Turn on the Economic Index in three steps
- 01
Find it in your connectors
Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look for Anthropic Economic Index. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables it before members each turn it on for themselves.
- 02
Enable it from its row
Click Connect on its row. Anthropic's announcement says there is nothing to install and that it works with any Claude model. If it ever misbehaves, Disconnect and connect it again.
- 03
Read any screen you accept
When a service shows an authorization screen, read it before you accept: that screen, not Claude, sets what the access covers. This dataset is public, so there is no personal account behind it.
The 9 tools: 6 described, 3 not
Anthropic Economic Index gives Claude 9 tools: 6 that read your account, 0 that change something in it, and 3 no official source describes.
The directory description matches six tools to what they return. The other three are listed by name only. Names stay as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (6)
6 toolsSix tools that query the public Index and change nothing.
econ_index_get_global_usage
Returns the worldwide usage patterns of the Index, the overall view of what people across the globe use Claude for, which Claude can then summarise in a few lines.
econ_index_get_usage_by_country
Pulls a country profile from the Index, so Claude can tell you how usage in that country looks and point to the underlying figures.
econ_index_get_usage_by_subregion
Brings back a subregion profile from the Index. Claude can then describe how usage in that part of a country looks and point to the underlying figures.
econ_index_get_occupation_usage
Gives the occupation breakdown of the Index, so Claude can tell you which jobs show up most in Claude usage and how your own field compares.
econ_index_list_top_work_tasks
Lists the task breakdown from the Index, the kinds of work people bring to Claude, which Claude can then discuss with you in plain terms.
econ_index_compare_regions
Puts regions side by side, as the directory description says, so Claude can show where usage differs between them instead of describing each one in turn, one after the other.
Undocumented (3)
3 toolsThe directory lists these names and nothing more. No official text says what they return, so this page leaves them undescribed.
econ_index_get_dataset_overview
The directory shows this name and nothing about it. Neither the sheet's description nor Anthropic's announcement mentions it, so nothing more is said here. The read-only label on the sheet covers the connector as a whole and says nothing about this name in particular.
econ_index_list_countries
Listed by name on the directory sheet, with no official sentence attached. This page does not guess its purpose from that name, however self-explanatory it may look to a reader skimming the list.
econ_index_list_subregions
A third name with no description in any official source we read, from the directory to the launch post. It stays unexplained on this page until a published source describes what it returns.
What Claude checks with you first
By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account for someone, with the prompt displayed in the conversation.
No source describes a confirmation for any Index tool, so the default rule is the reference. The directory sheet calls the connector read-only, and the data is public, so no personal account sits behind it. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a prompt, and they can restrict what any connector does across the organization. Claude still works with the rights of the person using it and nothing more.
Which plans include it
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Even for a connector published by Anthropic, that answer is not published.
The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can use it. To check the current status of this one, open its sheet in the official directory, the only place kept current.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude queries the Index while it answers you, so no update lands in your inbox when new data comes out.
What is known comes from the directory sheet and Anthropic's launch announcement of July 2026; no help center article or developer page covers the tools one by one. A read-only tool list is an observed floor, not a guarantee, since an administrator can open actions no public sheet shows. Anthropic is the publisher here, which is rare: only 9 of the 819 connectors come from Anthropic itself. Its verification badge is still not a security audit.
