Overview

What changes once Claude can see your calendar

Scheduling stops being a back-and-forth between tabs. You ask Claude what your week looks like, or when three colleagues are all free, and it reads your Google Calendar to answer, shared calendars you can access included. Then, if you want, it books the meeting too.

Know what is coming before Monday starts. Claude uses list_events and search_events to pull the week ahead, including shared calendars you can open, and flags the meetings that clash.

Find a slot that works for everyone. suggest_time looks for mutual availability across attendees, then create_event puts the meeting in the calendar once you agree on the time.

Keep the calendar honest. When a meeting moves, update_event changes it; when it dies, delete_event removes it; and respond_to_event accepts, declines or marks an invitation as tentative.

What the connector does not do: it never acts on its own. No tool wakes up when an invitation lands or ten minutes before a meeting; Claude only calls them while it answers you. It also stays inside the calendars your Google account can already open. If you want something to happen automatically on a calendar event, that is a job for an automation platform, covered on our Google Calendar n8n integration and Google Calendar Make integration pages. Different job, not a better one. The Claude gmail connector page covers the email side of the same Google account.

Vocabulary

Five words to know before you connect

The vocabulary around this connector, in one minute.

Connector
A link you set up once between Claude and an account you already own, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named action a connector hands to Claude. Claude picks the tools it needs by itself; the directory lists every one by name.
Authorization
Google's own sign-in and permission screen, where you give Claude its access. Granted once per person, and you can revoke it.
Approval
The go-ahead Claude waits for in the conversation before it does something that changes your calendar, like booking a meeting.
MCP
The open standard connectors run on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Google Calendar.
Connect

Connect Google Calendar to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connectors

In Claude, go to Customize then Connectors and find Google Calendar in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, it only shows up once an Owner or Primary Owner has enabled it for the organization.

  2. 02

Click Connect and sign in to Google

Click Connect on the Google Calendar row, then sign in to your Google account in the window Google opens. When it works, the button turns into Disconnect, which is also how you reset a broken link.

  3. 03

    Review Google's permission screen

Google lists what the access will cover before you accept. That screen belongs to Google, not to Claude, and it sets the scope. You can remove the access later from your Google account settings too.

Tools

The 9 tools, split by what they do

Google Calendar gives Claude 9 tools: 5 that read your account, 4 that change something in it.

Two groups: what Claude reads in your calendars, and what it changes. Tool names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

  • 5 read
  • 4 write

What Claude reads (5)

5 tools

Five tools that look at your schedule and leave it untouched.

get_event

Opens one event in full: time, place, description and the list of attendees, so Claude can brief you on it rather than guess from the title.

When it helps
ten minutes before the budget review, you want to know who is invited and what the agenda says.

Sourcesupport.claude.com · September 25, 2026 ↗

list_calendars

Shows which calendars your account can reach, yours and the shared ones, so Claude knows where to look before it searches.

When it helps
your team shares a holidays calendar and a room booking calendar, and you want Claude to check both.
Watch out
a calendar nobody shared with you stays invisible to Claude as well.

list_events

Pulls the events over a stretch of time, a day, a week or a month, which is what Claude reads when you ask what your schedule looks like.

When it helps
on Sunday evening you ask for Monday to Friday at a glance, with the clashes flagged.

Sourcesupport.claude.com · September 25, 2026 ↗

search_events

Searches your calendar for events, so Claude can go looking for a meeting you only half remember, across the calendars your account can open.

When it helps
you cannot recall when the last meeting with the product team took place, or when the next one is.

Sourcesupport.claude.com · September 25, 2026 ↗

suggest_time

Looks for mutual availability across several attendees and proposes slots where everyone is free, instead of you comparing calendars by eye.

When it helps
four people across two teams need an hour together next week.
Watch out
Claude can only weigh the calendars your account is allowed to see.

What Claude changes (4)

4 tools

Four tools that add, edit, remove or answer events. No source details a confirmation per tool, so the general approval rule applies.

create_event

Approval: see the rule

Adds a new event to your calendar with its time, title, guests and details, the step that turns a found slot into a booked meeting.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation specific to this tool, so the general approval rule below covers it.
When it helps
the slot is agreed and you want the invitation out without opening Google Calendar.

Sourcesupport.claude.com · September 25, 2026 ↗

delete_event

Approval: see the rule

Removes an event from your calendar. The help center lists deleting alongside creating and updating events.

What Claude asks for
nothing tool-specific is documented; the default rule of asking before each action is what applies.
When it helps
a project was cancelled and its weekly check-in no longer has a reason to exist.
Watch out
read the event name Claude shows you before you say yes.

respond_to_event

Approval: see the rule

Answers an invitation for you: accept, decline or tentative. These three answers are the ones the help center names.

What Claude asks for
no source spells out a dedicated confirmation here; the general rule in the approvals section holds.
When it helps
a batch of invitations piled up during your holiday and you want to sort them in one go.

Sourcesupport.claude.com · September 25, 2026 ↗

update_event

Approval: see the rule

Changes an event that already exists: new time, new room, an extra guest, a corrected description.

What Claude asks for
the source gives no per-tool confirmation, so rely on the general approval rule below.
When it helps
the client asked to push Thursday's call by an hour.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it touches your calendar

Four of the nine tools change your calendar, so the approval rule matters here.

By default, every action Claude takes on your behalf waits for your explicit approval, shown in the conversation. The help center gives that rule for Google Workspace as a whole and does not detail it tool by tool for Calendar. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a prompt each time, and they can limit the connector for the whole organization, reading only for instance. Claude also mirrors your Google permissions: a calendar you cannot open stays closed to it.

Plans

Which plans include the Google Calendar connector

None of the 819 directory sheets shows plan availability, so a connector-by-connector answer does not exist anywhere in official form.

The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members can sign in. Official pages about the Google connectors do not all agree on plans, so for the current state on your account, check the Google Calendar sheet in the directory.

Limits

What the connector will not do

A connector does not watch your calendar: its tools only run while Claude is answering you, never when an invitation arrives on its own.

The directory's verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it does not decide which tools a publisher exposes or promise they behave as described. Here the publisher is Google itself, a known name. Beyond that, the limits are practical ones: most are set by Google's side of the connection, the rest by your own access rights. Keep in mind too that the rule for approvals is published for Google Workspace as a whole, not tool by tool for Calendar.

Two official sources disagree

Can Claude create, change or delete events in Google Calendar?

  • Developer documentation ↗September 2026Out of dateThe connector only reads: Claude cannot create, modify or delete events, nor send invitations.
  • Help center ↗September 2026Claude creates, updates and deletes events, and answers invitations.
  • Directory sheet ↗September 2026create_event, update_event, delete_event and respond_to_event are in the public list of 9 tools.

What this page followsYes, it writes to your calendar. The help center and the directory's tool list agree, and this page follows them. The developer page describes an older, read-only state, the same mistake it made about Gmail, and is set aside here.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Google Calendar connector

01What can Claude do with the Google Calendar connector?
Claude can read your schedule and manage it from the conversation. The directory lists nine tools: five that read, covering single events, the calendars you can access, events over a period, a search by content and a mutual availability finder, and four that write, to create, update and delete events and to answer invitations. None of them runs on its own: Claude only calls them while it answers you, never when an invitation arrives.
02Can Claude create, move or delete events for me?
Yes. Four of the nine tools change your calendar: one creates an event, one updates an existing event, one deletes it, and one accepts, declines or marks an invitation as tentative. One developer page from Anthropic still says the connector only reads, but the help center and the directory's list of tools both show these write tools, and this page follows the more complete and consistent pair of sources on that point.
03Does Claude ask before it changes my calendar?
By default, yes. Every action Claude takes on your behalf waits for your explicit approval in the conversation, so a booking or a deletion does not go through silently. No official page details the rule tool by tool for Calendar. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners can let members skip the prompt for certain actions, or restrict the connector to reading for the whole organization, a setting that nobody can override from their own account.
04Which plans is the Google Calendar connector available on?
No official source publishes availability plan by plan for a given connector, and official pages about the Google connectors do not all say the same thing. The general rule from Anthropic is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. The Google Calendar sheet in the directory shows the current state for your account.
05Can Claude see my colleagues' calendars?
Only the ones you can already see. Claude mirrors your existing Google permissions, so it reaches your own calendars and the shared calendars your account has access to, nothing more. If a colleague never shared their calendar with you, Claude cannot read it either: it mirrors your access, it does not extend it. Retrieved data stays attached to its chat, and deleting that chat removes it from Anthropic's side as well.
06Why is Google Calendar blocked on my work account?
Because your company's Google Workspace admin may have to trust Claude first. If you see an access blocked message asking for an admin review, the Workspace admin needs to allow Claude as a trusted application on the Google side; Claude cannot do it for you. Google then needs approximately 15 minutes to apply the policy. After that, connecting again from Claude should work. Until then, the connector stays unavailable on that account, whatever your Claude settings say.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with Google Calendar?
They cover different needs. Claude is at its best when you ask something: what your week looks like, when everyone is free, or to move a meeting while you talk it through. An automation tool runs by itself on a trigger, for instance creating an event every time a form is submitted, with nobody in a chat. Many teams keep both: Claude for the judgment calls, an automated workflow for the repetitive bookings.
