Overview

What changes for legal research

With this connector, you ask Claude in plain language and it searches one database built from official registries such as Légifrance, EUR-Lex, the BOE or the European Court of Human Rights, then opens the full text of the decision or law it finds, with its source.

Find the decisions that matter. search mixes meaning-based and keyword search over the corpus, with filters on country, court level, jurisdiction, language and dates, and returns ranked results with snippets.

Turn a sloppy citation into the right document. resolve_reference takes an informal reference such as an article of a civil code, an ECLI or a CELEX number and returns the matching text. get_document then brings the full text and metadata.

Know what is covered before you rely on it. discover_countries, discover_sources and get_filters show which countries, courts and filter values exist, which the publisher presents as the way to build precise queries.

And what it does not do. It reads public law, and no listed tool edits a document. Its one outgoing tool only reports a problem with a source to the maintainer. The publisher stresses primary sources only, with no scraped web copies. Nothing runs on its own either: a new ruling does not trigger Claude. To browse the rest of the family, the Integrations hub lists it.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will run into when you plug it in.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and a service you use, so Claude can search it while it answers your question.
Tool
One named capability the connector gives Claude. Claude chooses which ones to call; the directory lists every tool by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in page, where you grant Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and you can revoke it.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it completes an action that changes something, displayed in the chat when it counts.
MCP
The shared standard behind connectors: it is what lets an assistant like Claude query an outside service like this database.
Connect

Connect Legal Data Hunter to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find it in Claude

Open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Legal Data Hunter. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members connect one by one.

  2. 02

    Launch the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in on the page Legal Data Hunter opens in your browser. If the link stops working later, Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization

Review the authorization screen before you accept it. It belongs to the service, not to Claude, and it states what the access covers. You can withdraw that access later from the service as well.

What Claude reads (6)

6 tools

Six tools that search, resolve, open or map the legal corpus without changing anything.

resolve_reference

Takes a loose legal citation, like an article number with a code name, a German court file number, an ECLI or a CELEX identifier, and finds the exact document behind it.

When it helps
a contract cites a regulation by its number only and you want the actual text.
Watch out
the publisher announces 95% accuracy over 184 sources in 55 countries, not every source in the base.

get_document

Opens one decision or legislative text in full, with all its metadata, using the source and identifier that a search returned.

When it helps
a snippet looks relevant and you want to read the court's full reasoning before citing it.

Sourcelegaldatahunter.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

discover_countries

Lists every country present in the database with its document counts, broken down by type. The publisher suggests starting there to see coverage.

When it helps
before a comparative memo, you check whether a smaller jurisdiction is covered at all.

Sourcelegaldatahunter.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

discover_sources

For one country, shows the official sources behind its documents, such as courts and legislative bodies, each with a document count and the date range it spans.

When it helps
you want to know whether lower court decisions from Spain go back far enough for your question.

get_filters

Returns the filter values a given source supports: courts, chambers, jurisdictions, decision types, languages and dates. Claude uses them to aim a search precisely.

When it helps
you only want decisions from one chamber of a high court and need its exact label.

What Claude sends (1)

1 tool

One tool that sends a report to the maintainer. No source describes a confirmation for it, so the general rule below applies.

report_source_issue

Approval: see the rule

Sends a report straight to the maintainer when something is off: a broken link, missing data, an indexing error or a quality problem in a source.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation for this tool, so the default approval rule applies.
When it helps
a decision you know exists never shows up and you want the gap fixed.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks before any action it takes on an account for you. Here that rule mostly concerns the one tool that sends something out, the source report.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether members can let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, such as allowing searches while closing anything that sends, and nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude works with the access of the person who connected it, nothing more. The official read-only versus write labels per tool appear only in a connected account's settings.

Plans

Which plans it is on

Out of 819 sheets in the official directory, none shows availability per plan. Connector by connector, that answer is not published anywhere.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector for the organization before members can connect individually. For the up-to-date state of Legal Data Hunter, check its sheet in the official directory from your own account.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: no new judgment or amended law starts anything by itself.

The tool list is an observed floor, not a ceiling: an administrator could open more than any public page shows. The partner badge in the directory is not a security audit, and Anthropic writes on every sheet that it neither chooses the tools a publisher exposes nor guarantees they behave as described. Only the publisher documents this connector; Claude's help center has no page on it. Even the corpus size differs between two of its texts, as shown below.

Two official sources disagree

How large is the Legal Data Hunter corpus?

  • Claude directory sheet (publisher's text) ↗read October 2026Out of dateThe sheet announces tens of millions of documents across more than 160 jurisdictions, with over 180 registries beyond the ones it names.
  • Publisher's llms.txt file ↗read October 2026The file, generated from the database, gives a much higher document count and a larger number of countries, with exact figures.

What this page followsBoth texts come from the publisher, and they disagree. The machine-generated file reads as the current one; the directory sheet carries an older, smaller figure. Neither can be checked from the outside and the corpus keeps growing, so treat any count as a snapshot and ask Claude which sources it actually searched.

FAQ

Claude Legal Data Hunter connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the Legal Data Hunter connector?
Claude can search a large database of official case law, legislation and doctrine and bring back the exact texts. Its tools run combined meaning and keyword searches with filters, turn a loose citation such as an ECLI or a code article into the right document, open full texts with their metadata, and map which countries, sources and filters exist. A seventh tool lets Claude report a broken or missing source to the maintainer.
02Can Claude write or change anything through Legal Data Hunter?
Not in the database. Six of its seven tools only search, resolve and open documents. The seventh sends a report to the maintainer about a broken link, missing data or an indexing problem; it flags the issue but does not fix the source. No listed tool drafts into a case file, saves notes or edits documents. Remember that an administrator could still open more than what any public page lists for this connector.
03Does Claude ask before it sends a source report?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before any action it takes on an account for you, and that is the rule covering the report tool. No source describes a confirmation specific to it. That tool sends broken URLs, missing data, indexing errors or quality issues straight to the maintainer. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether members can let certain actions through without being asked, and they can block sending for the organization.
04Which Claude plans include Legal Data Hunter?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the directory's 819 sheets shows it. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. To see the current state of Legal Data Hunter for your account, open the connector's sheet in the official directory.
05Does Claude see my private documents through this connector?
No, the connector reaches the publisher's legal database, not your files. Claude works with the access of the person who connected it and nothing more, and the database itself is built from official public sources: the publisher names registries such as Légifrance, EUR-Lex, the BOE and the Bundesgerichtshof. On Team and Enterprise Claude workspaces, an owner can also restrict or disable the connector for everyone, and a member cannot override that from a personal account.
06Why does Claude not find a citation that I know is real?
Two possible reasons. Reference resolution covers 184 sources in 55 countries according to the publisher, so a citation from a source outside that set may not resolve directly; a plain search with country and court filters is the next step. The source itself may also have a gap, which discover_sources can help spot through each source's date range. In that case Claude can use the report tool to flag missing data straight to the maintainer.
07Claude or an automation tool for Legal Data Hunter?
They do different jobs, so choose by need. Claude works in a conversation: you ask a legal question, it searches, opens the texts and helps you read them, then stops when you do. It does not watch for new rulings on its own. If you want a recurring check that alerts you when a court publishes something new, that background job belongs to an automation tool. For on-demand research, the connector fits.
