What changes for your inbox
Airmail's connector is a local extension for Claude Desktop that talks to the Airmail app on your Mac. Instead of clicking through folders, you ask Claude to summarize what came in, file the noise, draft replies or book a meeting. It reaches mail, calendar, reminders and contacts, and the tool list is one of the longest in the directory.
Clear a crowded inbox in minutes. batch_triage_inbox suggests an action and a priority for each message, then archive_messages or move_messages apply the ones you keep.
Answer without losing control. reply_to_message and compose_email open a pre-filled window and leave the send button to you. Airmail's own example asks for a reply that is opened but not sent.
Keep the calendar and contacts in step. create_event, create_reminder and update_contact turn what an email says into a meeting, a follow-up or a corrected card.
What to watch: two tools skip the window. quick_reply and send_email send immediately, and several deletions are permanent. Nothing runs on its own either: Claude acts only while you talk to it, and only while Airmail is open on this Mac. And Claude never reaches mail on another computer. For email marketing rather than a personal inbox, see the Claude activecampaign connector.
The vocabulary in one minute
Five words you will meet while plugging Airmail in.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named action the connector opens to Claude. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own; the directory lists them by name.
- Authorization
- The permission you grant so Claude can act. With Airmail, it is a pairing prompt in the app itself, revocable client by client.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it finishes an action that changes your account, shown right in the conversation.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside app such as Airmail.
Connect Airmail to Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Airmail in Claude Desktop
In Claude Desktop's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Airmail in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it first before members can add it.
- 02
Start the connection
Click Connect on its row to add the extension to Claude Desktop on your Mac. If it misbehaves later, use Disconnect and add it again from the same row.
- 03
Approve the pairing in Airmail
On first use, Airmail itself shows an authorization prompt: click Allow. That prompt belongs to Airmail, not to Claude, and the access it grants can be revoked later, client by client, in Airmail's MCP Permissions tab.
The 102 Claude Airmail connector tools, sorted by what they do
Airmail gives Claude 102 tools: 45 that read your account, 50 that change something in it, and 7 no official source describes.
Three groups: what Claude reads, what it changes, and what the sources leave unclassified. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

Unclassified (7)
7 toolsAirmail gives these seven a one-line label, but no source says whether they read or change anything, so this page does not class them.
manage_capabilities
Airmail's manifest labels it as switching tool groups on or off to save context, but no source says whether that counts as reading or as changing anything, so this page leaves it unclassified.
start_convo
The publisher gives it a one-line label about opening a conversation session with an ID for request correlation; no source says whether it reads or alters your data, and this page goes no further.
refresh_inbox
Airmail describes it as fetching new emails from the server, yet no source says whether it only reads or also changes state in your mailbox, so it stays unclassified here.
analyze_email_history
According to its manifest line, it scans the sent folder to build a behavior profile of tone, contacts and topics; no source says whether that writes to the profile or only reads, so the page does not decide.
fetch_message_body
The publisher's label says it triggers a download of a message body from the server; no source states whether it reads or modifies anything, and this page stops at that.
export_eml
Airmail's manifest says it exports a message as an .eml file saved to disk and returns its path; no source says how that should be classed, read or change, so the page leaves it open.
semantic_index_status
Its one-line label reads check or trigger the semantic index; no source says whether a given call only reads the status or rebuilds something, so this page does not classify it.
What Claude asks before acting
By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before any action it takes on an account for you. With Airmail, that default is the main safeguard: the publisher describes no confirmation of its own.
On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without being asked each time, and they can cap what a connector may do for the whole organization. That setting binds everyone. On the Airmail side, access starts with a pairing you approve in the app, and each paired client can be revoked in the MCP Permissions tab. Claude reaches only the accounts configured in Airmail on this Mac.
Which plans this is available on
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows availability per plan. Connector by connector, the answer is published nowhere: a real gap in the catalogue.
The general rule is published: desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop, while remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector for the organization first. The directory sheet lists Claude Desktop as the only surface here, and it is the only place showing the current state.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a new email lands, even if a rule of yours reacts to it inside Airmail.
Only the publisher documents this connector, through its GitHub README and extension manifest: no Claude help article covers it. The manifest gives one line per tool, enough to class most of them and not the last seven. The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes nor guarantee their behavior. For other connectors, browse the Integrations hub.
