Claude Owkin connectorWhat Claude can do in your Owkin account.
The Claude Owkin connector exposes 9 tools, and all 9 of them read. 0 write tools, 0 left undescribed. They give Claude access to Pathology Explorer, Owkin's model for H&E histology slides from the TCGA cohorts. Here is what Claude can pull from it, and where it stops.

What Pathology Explorer brings to a conversation
Owkin builds AI agents for biology, and the connector currently powers HistoPLUS, which turns H&E slides from the TCGA database into queryable data. Owkin's docs call the Claude side Pathology Explorer: browse cohorts, view thumbnails, run survival analyses and export features, by asking Claude rather than writing code.
Quantify cell types across a cohort. The directory sheet names this as a first use. list_cell_types gives the cell types the model detects, six according to Owkin, and get_histomics returns the features computed for given slides.
Narrow a cohort, then look. filter_slides returns the IDs of slides that meet your feature criteria, and display_slide_thumbnail renders one of them so you see the tissue behind the numbers.
Test a hypothesis on survival. The sheet cites cohort-level survival analysis to validate hypotheses: survival_analysis runs an OS or PFS analysis on a cohort.
What it won't do: the docs only describe the TCGA cohorts in this integration, not your own slides or files. No tool on the sheet writes to Owkin, and Claude never starts an analysis by itself, so nothing runs between two of your questions. For other platforms, the Integrations hub gathers what the team has documented.
Vocabulary before you start
Five Claude words, and nothing more.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can use it while it answers.
- Tool
- A named capability the connector opens to Claude. Claude picks which one to call; the directory sheet lists them by name.
- Authorization
- Owkin's sign-in screen, where you grant Claude the access it will use afterwards. Given once per person, and revocable.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude asks for in the chat before it changes anything in an account for you.
- MCP
- The common standard connectors run on: it lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Set up the Claude Owkin connector in three steps
- 01
Look up Owkin in your connectors
In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and find Owkin. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables it for the organization first, then each member connects on their own.
- 02
Sign in to Owkin
Click Connect on its row, approve the access request, then sign in on Owkin in the window it opens. Owkin warns that its sign-in page can look stuck even when the connection goes through.
- 03
Check the authorization, then test
Read the authorization screen before you accept. Then, as Owkin suggests, start a new chat and ask Claude for the list of available TCGA cohorts. If a cohort list comes back from Owkin, the connection works.
The 9 Pathology Explorer tools
Owkin gives Claude 9 tools: 9 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.
Nine tools, all filed under reading: they list, describe, filter, display or analyze TCGA slides. Names stay as Claude shows them.
- 9 read
What Claude reads (9)
9 toolsNine tools that query Pathology Explorer slides and features without writing anything to Owkin.
list_cell_types
Returns the cell types Owkin's model supports on an H&E stain. The publisher says the model detects six of them. These are the populations the other tools count and filter on.
list_cohorts
Lists the TCGA cohorts this integration covers. It doubles as the test question Owkin recommends to confirm a fresh connection actually works. The docs limit queries to the cohorts available in this integration.
features_description
Explains the slide-level histomics feature names and what each one means, so the vocabulary of the other tools becomes readable. It describes the features; get_histomics returns their values.
filter_slides
Picks out the slides whose histomics features meet your criteria and returns their IDs. Those IDs are what the detail and thumbnail tools work on next.
get_histomics
Fetches the histomics features for specific slide IDs, so Claude can lay the values of several slides side by side in its answer. It takes the IDs that a filter returned.
display_slide_thumbnail
Renders a thumbnail of the requested slide in the conversation, so you can see the tissue behind the computed numbers.
survival_analysis
Runs an overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) analysis on a cohort. The directory sheet presents cohort-level survival analysis as a way to validate hypotheses.
histoplus_help
Gives Owkin's summary of the Pathology Explorer model and its capabilities, as the publisher wrote it. In the publisher's list it carries the name Pathology Explorer description, and the directory sheet says the connector currently powers HistoPLUS. It is the only tool in Owkin's list that describes the model itself.
download_histomics
Provides a presigned URL to download histomics data in Parquet format, so the analysis can continue in your own environment. The data comes as a file link, not as rows in the chat.
What Claude asks before acting
By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before every action it takes on an account for you. The request appears in the conversation, at the moment it matters.
No source says whether Claude checks with you before calling any of the nine Owkin tools, so the general rule applies. On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners decide whether a member can let some actions through without a new prompt. They can also cap what a connector does for the whole organization, and nobody overrides that from their own account. And Claude works with your rights only: whatever your Owkin account can't open, Claude can't reach.
Which plans include it
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows availability by plan. For a given connector, that information is published nowhere: it is a real gap in the catalog.
The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organization before members connect. For Owkin's current status, check its sheet in the official directory. The publisher states a different condition in its own docs; it is laid out below, with dates, in the limits section.
Where the connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing kicks off when a cohort gets updated.
By default the sheet only exposes reading, which is an observed floor: an admin can open writes no public sheet shows. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic notes on every sheet that it does not choose a publisher's tools. Only Owkin's documentation covers this connector, and it describes it as a custom connector an admin adds by hand, even though it sits in the directory. It also lists two tile tools missing from the sheet.
Which Claude plans can use the Owkin connector?
- Claude Help Center, general connector rule ↗September 2026Remote connectors are open to all users; on Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable them first.
- Owkin documentation (Getting started) ↗undated pageThe publisher says a paid Claude plan is needed (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise), because it describes setup as a custom connector, which the Free plan does not support.
What this page followsThe two texts describe different paths: Owkin writes about a custom connector added by hand, Anthropic about connectors in the directory, where Owkin is listed. Neither settles it for your account: check the directory sheet from your own Claude account.
