Overview

What changes when you need fresh information

Parallel Search doesn't plug into any account of yours: it gives Claude web search and the ability to read specific pages while it answers. Parallel pitches it as usable with no API key, built to return excerpts rich enough to answer from without a follow-up, so less of the conversation gets eaten by raw pages.

Check a breaking fact. When a question turns on current information, web_search runs a general web search and returns excerpts that are often enough to settle it without opening the page.

Read the exact page. When excerpts fall short, or you paste a link yourself, web_fetch pulls the page as clean text, up to 20 URLs per request, so Claude can quote the wording exactly instead of working from a truncated excerpt.

Run a quick market scan. Parallel lists live fact-checking during a conversation, research on recent or fast-moving topics and competitive intelligence among the common uses.

What Claude doesn't do with this connector: it writes nothing, posts nothing and opens no account. It won't rerun a search on its own either, since nothing runs in the background between two of your messages. For a search that fires on a schedule you need an automation tool, a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

Four words, then you connect

The bare minimum to follow the rest of this page.

Connector
The link you add once in Claude to open an outside service to it; here, a search engine rather than one of your accounts.
Tool
A named action the connector makes available. Claude decides by itself whether it needs one, and the directory lists them by name.
Approval
The confirmation Claude asks for before an action that changes something in an account, right when it matters in the chat.
MCP
The open standard that links connectors to Claude; it's what lets the assistant call an outside service at all.
Connect

Add Parallel Search to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Parallel Search

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and spot Parallel Search in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization first.

  2. 02

    Add it

Click Connect on its row. The directory sheet says no sign-in is required, so there's no Parallel login to enter. If adding it goes wrong, hit Disconnect and try again.

  3. 03

    Check what shows up

No sign-in screen is expected for this connector. If a service ever does show you an authorization screen, read it before accepting: that screen, not Claude, sets how far access goes.

Tools

The 2 tools, grouped by what they do

Parallel Search gives Claude 2 tools: 2 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Two web-reading tools, nothing else. Names stay in English, the way Claude shows them.

  • 2 read

What Claude reads (2)

2 tools

Two tools that search the web and read pages without posting anything.

web_fetch

Fetches the content of specific pages from their URLs and hands it back as readable text. Parallel reserves it for cases where search excerpts aren't enough.

When it helps
you're asking about one specific page and need its exact wording, which excerpts may have cut short.
Watch out
asking for the full page can return text long enough to exceed what Claude can take in at once.

Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before every action it takes on an account for you. The request shows up in the chat, at the moment it matters.

There's no account here: the connector searches and reads web pages, and Parallel presents both tools as read-only. No source describes a confirmation specific to either one. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, Owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without a fresh prompt, and they can limit what the connector may do for the whole organization, with no way around it from a personal account.

Plans

Which plans it's available on

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Per connector, that information isn't published anywhere.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables them for the organization before members connect. For the current state, the Parallel Search sheet in the official directory is the reference.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector isn't an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so no search reruns on a schedule.

By default the sheet only exposes read tools. That's an observed floor, not a guarantee: an admin can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The connector is documented by its publisher alone, with no Anthropic page; the rest of the family sits on the Claude connectors hub. The directory badge isn't an audit: Anthropic doesn't choose the tools exposed or vouch for how they behave, so only add what comes from a publisher you trust.

FAQ

FAQ about the Claude Parallel Search connector

01What can Claude do with the Parallel Search connector?
Claude can search the web and read specific pages while it answers you. The first tool runs a general web search and returns excerpts meant to be enough to answer from. The second pulls the content of pages from their URLs, up to 20 per request, when excerpts fall short or you ask about one specific page. Parallel names live fact-checking, recent topics and competitive intelligence among the typical uses for the pair.
02Can Claude post or change anything through Parallel Search?
No. By default the sheet only exposes two read tools, and Parallel describes them that way. Claude searches, reads and quotes; it posts nothing, fills in no form and touches no account through this connector. As always, a read-only list stays an observed floor rather than a guarantee, since an admin can open other actions. To act on a site or app, you'd need a different connector plugged into that service.
03Does Claude ask before it runs a search?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before every action it takes on an account on your behalf. There's no account here, and no source describes a confirmation specific to web_search or web_fetch, so Claude's general rule is what applies. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, Owners choose whether members can let some actions through without a prompt, and they can restrict the connector for the whole organization. Nobody lifts that restriction from a personal account.
04Which plans is the Parallel Search connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability for this connector, and no directory sheet shows it. Anthropic's general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. On Parallel's side, default access is free and anonymous, with no key to create. For the current state, the official directory sheet remains the reference worth checking, ideally from your own account.
05Does Claude need a Parallel account?
No. The directory sheet says no sign-in is required, and Parallel presents its search service as usable without an API key. Its default address doesn't even offer sign-in, so Claude won't ask you to log in. The trade-off is lower usage limits than with a Parallel key, and search overrides get ignored on anonymous requests. No private account is read, since the connector only talks to the open web, and the directory sheet confirms there's nothing to sign in to.
06Why does the page Claude read look incomplete?
Because the connector favors excerpts. On anonymous access, Parallel caps the total excerpts per call at roughly 25000 characters, to stay within what Claude can receive. web_fetch can return a full page, but Parallel warns that text can run to tens of thousands of tokens and overflow the client's limit. By default web_fetch returns excerpts; the full page is an option, and its length is exactly what can exceed that limit. Parallel also caps web_fetch at 20 web addresses per request.
07Claude or an automation tool for Parallel Search?
They do different jobs. Claude with Parallel Search fits when you have a question right now: a fact to check, a page to read, a competitor's page to read while you write. An automation tool fits when a task has to run without you, on a schedule or on an event. None of the connector's tools starts on its own, so a search that has to repeat on a schedule belongs with the second kind of tool.
