Overview

What changes when Claude can reach your PayPal account

Billing admin stops being a detour through the PayPal dashboard. You describe the invoice or ask about a payment in plain words, and Claude calls the PayPal tools it needs while it answers. Some of those tools move real money or reach your customers directly, which is why the approval section below matters more here than on most connectors.

Bill a client in one sentence. create_invoice builds the invoice with the recipient's billing details, line items, a note and optional shipping, then send_invoice sends it. If the client goes quiet, send_invoice_reminder nudges them, and generate_invoice_qr_code gives you a QR code to print on a paper copy.

Keep an eye on what comes back. list_disputes sums up your open disputes, get_dispute opens one in detail, and get_order or get_refund answer the question a customer just emailed you about.

Run recurring billing from the chat. create_subscription_plan and create_subscription set up recurring billing, and cancel_subscription ends one when a customer leaves.

Now what the directory sheet does not tell you. Two names, list_product and list_transaction, do not match PayPal's own tool list, which spells them in the plural; we leave them undocumented. Nothing on the list deletes an invoice. And nothing runs on its own: no tool starts when a payment arrives. For that kind of background job, look at the PayPal n8n integration or the PayPal Make integration.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while plugging PayPal into Claude.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already own, so Claude can work in that account while it answers you.
Tool
One named action a connector opens to Claude. It picks the ones it needs by itself, and the directory sheet lists them by name.
Authorization
The sign-in screen of the service itself, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person, and you can take it back.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes through with something that changes your account, shown in the chat when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on. It is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as PayPal.
Connect

Connect PayPal to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find PayPal in Claude

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for PayPal in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to switch the connector on first, before each member can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on the PayPal row, then log in to PayPal on the page PayPal opens itself. If the link ever breaks, use Disconnect and connect again from the same place.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Read PayPal's consent screen before you authorize anything. It belongs to PayPal, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. You can withdraw that access later from your PayPal account.

Tools

The 28 Claude PayPal connector tools, by what they do

PayPal gives Claude 28 tools: 12 that read your account, 14 that change something in it, and 2 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it can change, and what no official source describes. Tool names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (12)

12 tools

Twelve tools that look up products, invoices, orders, refunds, disputes, shipments and subscriptions.

show_product_details

Retrieves the details of one product in your PayPal catalog, the items you bill for or sell on subscription.

When it helps
you want the exact product name and ID before Claude drafts an invoice or a plan.
Watch out
it covers one product at a time; the listing tool on this sheet is undocumented.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_disputes

Returns a summary of all your open disputes, the cases where a buyer contests a payment.

When it helps
Monday morning, you want to know how many disputes are open and which need an answer first.
Watch out
PayPal describes open disputes here, not closed ones.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_dispute

Pulls detailed information on a specific dispute, so Claude can lay out what the buyer claims and where the case stands.

When it helps
a buyer says the parcel never arrived and you need the full picture before you decide.
Watch out
reading a dispute is harmless; the tool that accepts one is in the other group.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_invoices

Lists your invoices, with paging and filters, so Claude can find, count or summarise them.

When it helps
you want every invoice from last month that is still unpaid.
Watch out
a broad question can return a long list, so give a period or a customer.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_invoice

Fetches the details of a specific invoice, from recipient to line items and status.

When it helps
a client says the amount is wrong and you want to check the lines before replying.
Watch out
Claude needs the invoice number or enough context to pick the right one.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

generate_invoice_qr_code

Generates a QR code for an invoice.

When it helps
you hand out paper invoices at a market stall and want a code printed on each one.
Watch out
PayPal's description stops at producing the code; it says nothing about the invoice itself.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_order

Looks up an order, the record behind a checkout or a payment request.

When it helps
a customer asks whether their order went through and you want the status in the chat.
Watch out
you need the order ID or enough detail to find it.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_refund

Gets the details of a specific refund, so you can see what was returned and when.

When it helps
a customer swears the refund never landed and you want the facts before you answer.
Watch out
this only looks up a refund; issuing one is a separate tool.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

get_shipment_tracking

Returns the tracking information PayPal holds for a shipment, straight into the conversation.

When it helps
a buyer opens a dispute for non-delivery and you need the tracking you entered.
Watch out
this tool only reads; recording a tracking number is the job of create_shipment_tracking, in the other group.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

list_subscription_plans

Lists the subscription plans set up in your PayPal account, the templates customers subscribe to.

When it helps
you want a quick view of your monthly and yearly offers before pricing a new one.
Watch out
these are PayPal billing plans, unrelated to your Claude subscription.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

show_subscription_details

Opens one specific subscription, a customer's ongoing recurring billing.

When it helps
a subscriber asks about their subscription and you want the answer from PayPal itself.
Watch out
you need the subscription ID or a clear way to identify the customer.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

show_subscription_plan_details

Brings back the details of a specific subscription plan.

When it helps
you want to check how the annual plan is set up before a customer signs up.
Watch out
it reads one plan at a time, so tell Claude which plan you mean.

Approval: see the rule

Watch out
no documented tool on this sheet edits a product afterwards.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

accept_dispute_claim

Approval: see the rule

Accepts the claim a buyer made in a dispute.

What Claude asks for
nothing specific is documented here; see the general rule further down.
When it helps

What Claude asks for
no dedicated confirmation is described, the default approval rule covers it.

Watch out
creating it is not sending it; that is the next tool.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

send_invoice

Approval: see the rule

Sends an invoice to its recipients, so it leaves your draft pile and reaches the customer.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation of its own; the general rule applies.
When it helps
you checked the draft and want it in the client's hands before the end of the day.
Watch out
once sent, the customer has it; recalling it means cancelling it.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

Approval: see the rule

Sends a reminder for an invoice that already exists, a polite nudge to a late payer.

What Claude asks for
nothing tool-specific is documented, so the approvals section's general rule holds.

Watch out
the customer receives it, so double-check which invoices you mean.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

Approval: see the rule

Cancels an invoice that has already gone out.

What Claude asks for
no confirmation of its own is described; see the approvals section.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation for it; the default rule covers it.

Watch out
an order is not a payment; the charge happens through a separate tool.

Sourcegithub.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

Processes a refund for a payment that has already been captured. Money leaves your account.

What Claude asks for

Not documented (2)

2 tools

The directory lists these two names, which PayPal's own list spells differently. No official text describes them, and we will not guess from a name.

list_product

This name sits on the directory sheet, yet PayPal's own tool list, read on 30 September 2026, only names a plural version of it. No official source describes this exact name, so this page says nothing more about it.

Watch out
whatever it turns out to be, the general approval rule covers it.

list_transaction

Same situation here: no official source describes this exact name, and PayPal's list spells a similar tool in the plural. Better to flag the mismatch than to assume the two are the same.

Watch out
the same approval rule as the rest of the list applies to it.
Approvals

What Claude asks you before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it takes on an account for you. The request shows up in the chat, at the moment it matters.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also limit what a connector may do across the whole organization, for example keep reading open and close writing. That setting applies to everyone and nobody overrides it from their own account. And Claude works with your rights and nothing more: it acts through the PayPal login you authorized, never beyond it. On a connector that can charge and refund, read every request before you approve it.

Plans

Which plans it is available on

Out of the 819 sheets in the official directory, not one shows availability by plan. The per-connector answer is published nowhere: it is a real hole in the catalogue.

The general rule is published, though. Remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner switches the connector on for the organization before each member can connect. For the current state on your account, the connector's own sheet in the official directory is the place to check.

Limits

Where the Claude PayPal connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a payment lands, an invoice falls overdue or a dispute opens.

This page rests on PayPal's developer material only: no Claude help article covers this connector. The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise, since an admin can open actions that no public sheet shows. The directory's partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not pick the tools a publisher exposes and does not vouch that they behave as announced. Connect what comes from a publisher you trust, here PayPal itself. For a connector where two official sources disagree on what it can send, read the Claude gmail connector page.

FAQ

Claude PayPal connector: frequent questions

01What can Claude do with the Claude PayPal connector?
Claude can look up and act on your PayPal business account from a conversation. The directory lists 28 tools: 12 read products, disputes, invoices, orders, refunds, shipment tracking and subscriptions, 14 create or send invoices, issue refunds, pay authorized orders, accept disputes and manage subscriptions, and 2 have no official description. In practice you can ask for an invoice to a client, a list of unpaid invoices, or a summary of your open disputes.
02Can Claude send invoices, refund or charge through PayPal?
Yes, fourteen documented tools change your account, and some move money. Claude can create and send invoices, send reminders, cancel a sent invoice, create orders, pay an authorized order, issue a refund on a captured payment, accept a dispute, record shipment tracking, and create, change or cancel subscriptions and plans. No tool on the sheet deletes an invoice. The default approval rule of Claude covers every one of them, including the ones that move money.
03Does Claude ask before it charges or refunds in PayPal?
By default, yes: Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for you. No source describes a confirmation specific to one PayPal tool, not even for payments or refunds, so that default rule is what protects you. On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members may skip some confirmations, and they can restrict the connector to reading for the whole organization. Read each request carefully, amount and recipient included.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes availability by plan for individual connectors, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members connect one by one. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only place that shows the current state for your account.
05Does Claude see my whole PayPal account?
Claude reaches what the PayPal login you authorized can reach, and no more. It works through the account and permissions you granted on PayPal's consent screen, so a business account shared with a colleague shows Claude only what your own access allows. On Claude's side, an owner of a Team or Enterprise workspace can also limit what the connector may do for the whole organization, and a member cannot lift that limit.
06Why does Claude say it cannot list my PayPal transactions?
Because the tool name on the directory sheet for that job is not documented. The sheet lists list_transaction, while PayPal's own tool list only names a plural version, and no official source describes the singular one the sheet shows. This page does not assume the two are the same. Invoices, orders, refunds and disputes each have documented lookup tools, so asking about those usually works better. You can also check the tool's label in your connected account's settings.
07Claude or an automation tool for PayPal?
They do different jobs, so it depends on the use. Claude works during a conversation: you ask for an invoice or a refund, it calls a tool, you approve and check. An automation tool runs in the background, on a schedule or when something happens, such as a new payment or an opened dispute. The connector has no tool that starts by itself. For recurring reconciliation or instant alerts on payments, an automation platform is the right trade.
