Overview

What Ramp Data changes in a Claude conversation

Ramp publishes figures drawn from real corporate spend across more than 50,000 businesses: which software vendors are gaining ground in a category, and how fast companies are adopting AI. With this connector, Claude queries those figures itself while you talk, so a vendor shortlist or an adoption trend comes with numbers from Ramp rather than from Claude's memory.

Size up a software category. For a category such as CRM, ramp_rate_get_category_summary returns its adoption rate and growth, and ramp_rate_get_category_vendors ranks the vendors inside it.

Put two or more vendors face to face. From vendor names as you type them, ramp_rate_resolve_vendor turns each into the identifier Ramp uses, and ramp_rate_compare_vendors lines up their adoption metrics.

Follow AI adoption. Claude reads the monthly series from ai_index_get_adoption, then can split it by company size with ai_index_get_adoption_by_size.

What it will not do: it does not open your company's own Ramp account: Ramp documents a separate, account-scoped server for that. Nothing runs on a schedule either; Claude only queries the data while it answers you. We have no n8n, Make or Zapier page for Ramp Data; our Integrations hub lists the platforms we cover, and the Claude connectors page gathers the rest.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The Claude vocabulary used on this page, in one minute.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an outside service, so Claude can draw on it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude decides which ones to call, and the directory sheet lists each by name.
Authorization
The access you grant on the service's own screen. Here the data is Ramp's published benchmarks, not the spend of your own company.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it changes anything in an account, shown in the conversation when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors rely on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Ramp Data.
Connect

Add the Claude Ramp Data connector in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Ramp Data in Connectors

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look for Ramp Data by its exact name. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable it for the organization before members can add it.

  2. 02

    Press Connect

Click Connect on the Ramp Data row and complete any window Ramp opens. If the connection breaks later, use Disconnect and connect again: that is the documented way to restore a damaged link.

  3. 03

    Review what the screen asks

If a permission screen appears, read it before you confirm. It is Ramp's screen, not Claude's, and it sets the reach of the access. The tools only return aggregated benchmarks, never your own company's transactions.

Tools

The 9 tools of the Ramp Data connector

Ramp Data gives Claude 9 tools: 9 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Six tools cover Ramp Rate, three cover the AI Index. All nine read data; names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (9)

9 tools

Nine lookups over two datasets: software categories and vendors first, then AI adoption over time.

ramp_rate_list_categories

Lists every software category Ramp Rate tracks, such as CRM or Observability. Claude calls it first so that later questions use names Ramp actually recognises.

When it helps
you do not yet know the exact name Ramp gives a software category.

ramp_rate_get_category_summary

Gives the adoption picture for a single category: adoption rate, year-over-year and month-over-month movement, growth rank, number of vendors and a breakdown by company headcount.

When it helps
you want the year-over-year and month-over-month trend of one category in a single answer.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ramp_rate_get_category_vendors

Ranks the vendors of a category with their adoption, share of spend, growth and competitive position.

When it helps
you want to see which vendors lead a category and how their adoption compares.
Watch out
the switch rate shown here is the share of switchers who picked that vendor, not a retention or churn figure.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ramp_rate_resolve_vendor

Turns a vendor name as you would type it into Ramp's own identifier, and says which software categories that vendor belongs to.

When it helps
you mention a tool by its everyday name and Claude needs the exact reference before comparing it with anything.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ramp_rate_get_vendor_profile

Opens a vendor's full Ramp Rate profile across all its categories. Ramp says it can also work from a domain, a link or a common name.

When it helps
you have a vendor's domain or link rather than its name, and want its figures across every category it belongs to.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ramp_rate_compare_vendors

Places between two and ten vendors side by side on the same adoption metrics, once Claude has their identifiers from the lookup tool.

When it helps
you are weighing several vendors and want their adoption metrics in one comparison rather than separate profiles.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ai_index_get_adoption

Returns monthly records of overall AI adoption among businesses, with the share for each AI vendor. Shares can overlap because a company may use several vendors.

When it helps
you need the overall AI adoption trend, with each AI vendor's share, over several months.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ai_index_get_adoption_by_sector

Splits AI adoption by industry, month by month, so sectors such as technology, healthcare or finance can be read separately rather than blended into one average.

When it helps
you want to compare AI adoption between two industries rather than read a single average.

Sourcemcp.ramp.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

ai_index_get_adoption_by_size

Breaks the monthly AI adoption figures down by company size segment rather than by sector, which shows whether small firms keep pace with large ones.

When it helps
you want AI adoption figures for one company size segment, over up to 120 months of history.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks before any action it would take on an account on someone's behalf. The nine Ramp Data tools only read aggregated figures, and no source describes a confirmation tied to any of them.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether a member may let certain actions through without being asked every time. They can also cap what a connector is allowed to do across the organization, for example keeping reading open and writing closed, and no member can override that from their own account. Claude acts with the rights of the person who connected it and nothing more; for Ramp Data that means published benchmarks, not anyone's company spend.

Plans

Which Claude plans include it

Anthropic's general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, while desktop extensions install in Claude Desktop.

On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns on a connector for the organization before members can connect. For Ramp Data's current status, refer to its sheet in the official directory, linked from the button at the top of this page. No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector; that sheet is the only place to confirm it.

Limits

What the Ramp Data connector does not do

Only Ramp documents this connector: neither the Claude help center nor Anthropic's developer docs have a page about it. The limits below come from Ramp's documentation and from its server.

A connector is not an automation: Claude calls the tools while it replies, and nothing fires on its own when Ramp publishes a new month of figures. The directory's verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on each sheet that it does not control what a publisher's tools do, so only connect publishers you trust. A sheet that exposes only reading is an observed floor rather than a guarantee for the future.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Ramp Data connector

01What can Claude do with the Ramp Data connector?
Claude can query two Ramp datasets built from corporate spend across more than 50,000 businesses. With Ramp Rate it lists software categories, summarises one, ranks its vendors, profiles a vendor and compares several side by side. With the AI Index it reads monthly AI adoption overall, by sector and by company size. Everything happens in the conversation, so you can ask follow-up questions about what the numbers mean for a purchase or a market.
02Can Claude write, send or delete anything through it?
By default, the directory sheet shows only reading tools for Ramp Data: all nine return benchmark figures. None of them changes data, sends anything or deletes anything, and none touches your company's Ramp account. That is what the sheet exposes today rather than a permanent promise, since a list of reading tools is an observed floor and a publisher can add tools later. Ramp's server marks each of the nine tools as read-only.
03Does Claude ask before using these tools?
By default, Claude stops and asks before any action it would carry out on an account on someone's behalf. No source describes a confirmation tied to one of the nine Ramp Data tools in particular, so that general rule is what applies. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions go through without a new prompt, and they can narrow what the connector is allowed to do for everyone.
04Which Claude plans is it available on?
No official source publishes, plan by plan, which connectors are included. Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and that on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector first. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only place that shows its current status, so check it from your own account. The answer can differ from one account to another.
05Does Claude see my whole Ramp account?
No. Ramp Data serves Ramp's published benchmarks, Ramp Rate and the AI Index, and Ramp's documentation points to a separate, account-scoped server for company data. Through this connector, Claude does not see your company's own Ramp data. It works with the rights of the person who connected it and nothing more, and the figures it reads are aggregates rather than any single company's spending. Ask Claude about your own spend and it will not find it here.
06How far back does the AI Index go?
The AI Index tools accept from 1 to 120 months of history, with 1 returning the latest available month. Ramp's server adds that history begins around January 2023, so a request for more months than exist simply returns fewer. If no data matches a request, Ramp sends back an empty result rather than an error, so Claude may have nothing to show for that period or segment. The same 1 to 120 month range applies to the overall series, the sector split and the size split.
07Claude or an automation tool for Ramp Data?
They do different jobs. This connector serves a conversation: you ask how a category or a vendor is doing and Claude reads the benchmarks to answer, then discusses them with you. An automation tool runs a fixed scenario on its own when something happens. Nothing here runs by itself, so collecting the figures every month without anyone asking is the kind of task an automation tool is built for. Claude then helps you interpret what was gathered.
