Overview

What the Claude RingCentral Chat connector changes for your team

You ask Claude a question about your team chats: it reads your RingCentral team messaging conversations, posts, notes and tasks, and answers you from them. It can also post, create a task or set up a team, always within the limits of your own access.

Catch up on a busy thread. read_team_chat goes through a conversation's posts, notes and tasks, and Claude answers from what it read.

Turn decisions into follow-ups. With manage_chat_item, decisions become tasks or a published note in the right conversation.

Reach the right person. find_person finds a coworker by name, email, extension or phone number, then send_post messages them directly or posts in a conversation, with a file attached if needed.

What Claude does not do here: it does not administer the company directory, and bulk export of conversations has moved off this server to a separate RingCentral admin server, since RingCentral treats it as an account-sensitive task. The connector is in beta, so its scope may shift. Nothing runs on its own either: no tool reacts to a new message unless you ask. For that kind of automatic reaction you need an automation platform, a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words that make the rest of this page easier.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and your RingCentral account, so Claude can work in your chats while it answers you.
Tool
One named action the connector hands to Claude. Claude picks which ones to use; the directory sheet lists them by name.
Authorization
RingCentral's own sign-in screen, where you grant Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and revocable the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before running an action that changes your account, shown in the chat when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on; it is what lets an assistant talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect RingCentral Chat to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find the connector

In Claude's settings, open Customize then Connectors and look for RingCentral Chat. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization before each member connects.

  2. 02

    Sign in to RingCentral

Click Connect on its row, then sign in with your RingCentral account in the window RingCentral opens. If the link misbehaves later, use Disconnect and start again from the same row.

  3. 03

    Approve the authorization

Read the authorization screen before accepting: it is RingCentral's, and it decides how far the access goes. You can also withdraw that access later from your RingCentral account.

Three tools RingCentral classes as read-only.

about_ringcentral_mcp_tools

RingCentral's recommended first call: Claude gets a short overview of the tool categories available on the connected server, with sample tool names. RingCentral marks it read-only.

When it helps
you have just connected and want to know, in one question, what the connector covers before relying on it.
Watch out
it also returns usage notes, for instance that posting or managing tools should only be picked when you actually ask for that effect.

find_person

Looks a coworker up in the company directory by name, email, extension or phone number. RingCentral says it never guesses: one person on an exact match, a short candidate list when the query is ambiguous, or not found.

When it helps
you are looking for someone and only know their name or extension.
Watch out
it is not a directory admin tool; it performs no administrative directory reads and no user edits.

read_team_chat

The all-purpose reading tool: conversations, posts, attachments, file downloads, cards, notes, tasks, events and incoming webhooks. RingCentral notes it stays available even when the posting and managing tools are turned off.

When it helps
you want the gist of a conversation you have not followed.

What Claude posts or changes (6)

6 tools

Six write tools, five of which RingCentral labels destructive. No source gives them their own confirmation.

manage_adaptive_card

Approval: see the rule

Creates, updates or deletes an adaptive card, a structured message with buttons shown inside a conversation. Only version 1.3 is accepted, with two kinds of action, open a link or submit, and a meaningful fallback text.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a card-specific check; the general approval rule further down frames it.
When it helps
you want a structured, clickable message posted in a team chat.
Watch out
RingCentral flags it as destructive, since it can delete a card.

manage_chat_item

Approval: see the rule

Creates, edits or deletes a note, task or event in a conversation, publishes, locks or unlocks a note, and marks a task as done.

What Claude asks for
the sources mention no dedicated prompt; you fall back on the default behaviour described below.
When it helps
decisions from a discussion need to become tasks in the project conversation.
Watch out
a new note stays a draft that nobody else sees until it is published.

manage_incoming_webhook

Approval: see the rule

Opens an incoming webhook in a group, meaning an address another app can use to post messages there, or activates, suspends or deletes an existing one.

What Claude asks for
nothing specific is documented before a webhook is created or removed, beyond the shared rule.
When it helps
another application should post into a dedicated conversation.
Watch out
deletion is one of the possible actions, hence the destructive label RingCentral puts on it.

manage_post

Approval: see the rule

Updates the text of a message already posted, or deletes it. Reading posts goes through a different tool.

What Claude asks for
neither RingCentral nor Anthropic describes its own confirmation here; only the general approval frame applies.
When it helps
a wrong date slipped into an announcement and you want it corrected without reposting.
Watch out
RingCentral annotates it as destructive because it can delete content.

manage_team

Approval: see the rule

The broadest write tool: create, update, archive, unarchive or delete a team, join or leave it, add or remove members, favourite a chat, and update the company-wide Everyone chat.

What Claude asks for
no confirmation step is documented for these team actions; see the default rule.
When it helps
a new team has to be created and its members added in one request.
Watch out
member management stays subject to your own permissions, and RingCentral flags the tool as destructive.

Sourcemcp.labs.ringcentral.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

send_post

Approval: see the rule

Posts a message to a known conversation, or straight to a person found beforehand, opening or reusing the direct chat. It can reply in a thread and attach from 1 to 25 files or images.

What Claude asks for
no source says whether Claude confirms before sending; the general approval rule is what applies.
When it helps
a short announcement has to reach a team conversation.
Watch out
RingCentral's docs cap the text at 10,000 characters.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude pauses and asks for your go-ahead before each action it takes on an account for you, right in the conversation.

On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members can let some actions through without being asked each time. They can also restrict what a connector does for the whole organization, keeping reads and blocking writes for example, and nobody can override that from their own account. Claude acts with your RingCentral permissions and nothing more: adding or removing team members, for instance, stays subject to what you are allowed to do.

Plans

Which plans include the connector

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows availability by plan; connector by connector, that information is not published anywhere.

The general rule is documented: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before members connect. For the current state, check the RingCentral Chat sheet in the directory. This connector is documented by RingCentral alone; Anthropic has no page devoted to it.

Limits

Where the RingCentral Chat connector stops

A connector is not an automation: Claude calls these tools while it answers you, and nothing fires on its own when a message arrives.

A tool list is an observed floor, not a promise: an administrator can open or close actions that appear on no public sheet. The directory badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic notes it does not answer for how a publisher's tools behave. Here, RingCentral itself presents the server as a preview, cut from 65 tools to 9 in its latest overhaul. Each remaining write tool bundles several operations behind one name, so a single tool can both create and delete.

FAQ

Claude RingCentral Chat connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the RingCentral Chat connector?
Claude can read and work in your RingCentral team messaging from the chat. Three tools read: an overview of available tools, a colleague lookup in the company directory, and reading conversations, posts, files, notes, tasks and events. Six write: sending a message, editing or deleting a post, and managing adaptive cards, teams, notes, tasks and events, and incoming webhooks. The connector is in beta, so expect its scope to evolve over time.
02Can Claude send or delete messages for me?
Yes. send_post publishes a message in a conversation or directly to a coworker, with attachments and thread replies when needed. manage_post replaces the text of an existing post or deletes it. Other tools can delete cards, notes, tasks, events, webhooks, or even a whole team. RingCentral flags five of these tools as destructive. Before letting Claude go ahead, read each confirmation request that shows up in the conversation, and check which channel or person it targets.
03Does Claude ask before posting on my behalf?
By default, yes: Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for you. No source describes a confirmation specific to send_post or the manage_ tools, so that general rule applies. RingCentral adds, in its server's usage notes, that write tools should only be picked when the user actually asks for that effect. On Team or Enterprise, owners can also block every write from the connector for the whole organization.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. The RingCentral Chat sheet in the directory is the only place showing the current state for your account, so check it there rather than relying on a blog post.
05Can Claude see every conversation in the company?
No. It works with your RingCentral permissions and nothing more. According to RingCentral, the account and extension identifiers the server uses usually default to the signed-in person, and Claude only reaches what your own account can already reach. Managing team members also stays subject to your permissions. On Team or Enterprise, an owner can further restrict what the connector may do across the organization, and members cannot undo that themselves.
06Why can't my teammates see the note Claude created?
Because every note starts as a draft. RingCentral explains that a note created with manage_chat_item stays invisible to other team members until it is published, which is a separate action of the same tool. Ask Claude explicitly to publish the note once you are happy with it. The same tool can then lock or unlock it, or delete it when it is no longer needed. RingCentral lists publish, lock and unlock as actions that apply to notes only.
07Claude or an automation tool for RingCentral Chat?
They do different jobs, so it comes down to the use. Claude with this connector acts when you talk to it: summarising a channel, finding a coworker, posting an announcement, creating follow-up tasks. An automation platform runs in the background and reacts to events without anyone typing. If you want a message to go out automatically for every new order, that second kind of tool is the right fit, not a connector waiting for your question.
