Overview

What changes once Thumbtack is connected

You describe the job and where it is, and Claude searches Thumbtack for matching professionals. Your answers to the clarifying questions on Thumbtack's request form then narrow the list, and customer reviews are available in the same conversation. When a name looks right, you open that pro's Thumbtack profile to message them or ask for a quote.

A shortlist from one request. Describe what you need: Search_home_service_pros finds the service category, fetches Thumbtack's request form and returns up to 6 pros.

Tighten it to your situation. Answer the clarifying questions, and filter_home_service_pros updates the existing search with those answers.

Read reviews before you choose. get_reviews_for_pros brings back customer reviews for one or several pros, sorted by relevance, rating or date.

See which categories stand out. get_category_recommendations suggests home service categories for a given location, sorted by popularity or trending status.

What Claude does not do here: it does not book, contact anyone or see a pro's calendar. Thumbtack says hiring goes through the pro's profile on Thumbtack.com and that no live availability is provided. Coverage is limited to the United States. We have no n8n, Make or Zapier page for Thumbtack; the Integrations hub lists what we cover.

Connect

Connecting the Claude Thumbtack connector

  1. 01

    Find Thumbtack in settings

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize and then Connectors, and look for Thumbtack in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization before members can use it.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row. Thumbtack's guide states that the connector neither creates nor manages user accounts: you use it anonymously, with no Thumbtack account.

  3. 03

Describe the job and your ZIP

Say what needs doing and give a location in the United States: according to the publisher, every tool requires a US location. Prices returned are starting estimates that can change with the job details you later discuss with the pro.

Tools

The 4 tools in the Claude Thumbtack connector

Thumbtack gives Claude 4 tools: 4 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Four tools, each described in Thumbtack's guide and flagged by the publisher as lookups. Names follow the directory sheet, which capitalizes the first one; Thumbtack guide and server write it in lowercase.

4 tools

Four tools that search, filter and review pros without booking or sending anything.

Search_home_service_pros

The entry point: in one call Claude identifies the service category, pulls Thumbtack's request form and returns a first list of pros.

When it helps
you have a job to get done at home and want a first list of pros in that trade.
Watch out
each call returns 6 professionals at most.

filter_home_service_pros

After that first list, Claude passes on your answers to the form's clarifying questions, and the existing search is updated with them.

When it helps
spelling out your needs after the initial search by answering the form's questions.
Watch out
the search ID expires after 7 days, at which point the server starts a fresh search on its own.

get_reviews_for_pros

Claude retrieves customer reviews for one or more pros, sorted by relevance, rating or date.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on your behalf. Here the sheet only exposes lookups: searching, filtering, reading reviews and suggesting categories.

Thumbtack annotates its four tools as read-only, non-destructive and idempotent, and its guide concludes that an assistant can call them without explicit confirmation. That is the publisher's view, not a guarantee, and Claude's general rule stays in place. On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners can limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, and nobody can override that choice from their own account.

Plans

Which plans the connector is on

Plan availability? Nobody publishes it connector by connector. Of the 819 sheets in the official directory, not a single one displays it.

The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables them for the organization, then each member connects. For Thumbtack's current status, look at its sheet in the official directory, the one place that displays it.

Limits

Where the Thumbtack connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it is answering you, and nothing fires when a new pro signs up in your area.

By default the sheet only exposes reads; that is an observed floor, not a promise about later versions. The directory's verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic notes that it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes. Only Thumbtack documents this connector, in a public guide; no Claude help article covers it. These are the limits it sets out there, worth knowing before you start a search.

FAQ

Claude Thumbtack connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the Thumbtack connector?
Claude can find and compare home service professionals in the United States. Search_home_service_pros identifies the category, fetches the request form and lists up to 6 pros. filter_home_service_pros updates that search with your answers to the clarifying questions, get_reviews_for_pros pulls customer reviews sorted by relevance, rating or date, and get_category_recommendations returns categories sorted by popularity or trend for a location. Prices shown are starting estimates, and any next step happens on the pro's Thumbtack.com profile.
02Can Claude book a pro or send them a message?
No, by default the connector's sheet only exposes lookups. Thumbtack's guide is explicit: the connector helps you discover and compare, and booking happens on Thumbtack.com from the pro's profile, where you can message them, request a quote or hire them. The connector does not offer live calendar availability either. This tool list describes the sheet as it stands today; any later change is something to confirm on the directory sheet.
03Does Claude ask before it searches for pros?
Claude's general rule is to ask for confirmation before any action it takes on your behalf. For its part, Thumbtack annotates all four tools as read-only and non-destructive, and writes in its guide that an assistant can therefore call them without explicit confirmation. No Anthropic source settles this specific case. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners can also restrict what the connector is allowed to do for the entire organization.
04Which plans is the Claude Thumbtack connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 sheets in the directory shows it. Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables them for the organization first, then each member connects. For Thumbtack, only its sheet in the official directory shows the current status.
05Do I need a Thumbtack account, and what does Claude see?
No. Thumbtack's guide says the connector does not create or manage user accounts, so you use it anonymously through Claude. You do need a location in the United States, which every tool requires according to the publisher. Claude never holds more rights than the person who connected it. You only reach Thumbtack itself when you open a pro's profile on Thumbtack.com to message them, request a quote or hire them.
06Why can't Claude find any pros near me?
The first thing to check is the location. Thumbtack operates only in the United States and its guide says every tool requires a US location, so a search outside that territory goes nowhere. Next, each search or filter call returns 6 professionals at most, so the list stays short by design. Finally, a filtered search relies on an ID that expires after 7 days; when that happens, the server creates a new search on its own.
07Claude or an automation tool for Thumbtack?
They serve different needs, so it comes down to the use. The Claude connector fits when you are hunting for a pro right now: describe the job, compare reviews, open a profile. It only acts while answering and keeps no watch in the background. An automation tool is meant to run a repeated task without you. For Thumbtack, we do not document any n8n, Make or Zapier scenario so far.
