Overview

Why put TomTom behind your location questions

TomTom runs mapping services: address lookup, route planning, live traffic and map rendering. With the connector you just ask Claude your place or trip question in plain English; it calls the right TomTom service and answers in the chat, with an interactive map when the Orbis backend is on.

Go from an address to a pin, and back. tomtom-geocode turns a street address into coordinates; tomtom-reverse-geocode does the opposite. For a half-remembered or misspelled name, tomtom-fuzzy-search copes with typos.

Plan the trip. tomtom-routing works out the best route between locations, tomtom-reachable-range maps how far you can get in a set time or distance, and tomtom-ev-routing plans a long electric-vehicle drive with its charging stops.

Check the road before you leave. tomtom-traffic looks up incidents in an area, dangerous conditions and closures included.

Now what the connector doesn't do. No documented tool writes anything; the sheet is for searching, calculating and displaying. Five tools only work on the Orbis backend. The remote server is in public preview, and TomTom's documentation lists API usage charges. And nothing runs on its own: no tool warns you when a jam builds up. That kind of watch is an automation tool's job, a different trade; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The jargon, in one minute

Five terms you'll come across while connecting TomTom Maps.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can use it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own, and the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person and withdrawn the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before finishing something that changes your account, shown in the chat when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on, which is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect TomTom Maps to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find TomTom Maps in Claude

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for TomTom Maps. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to switch the connector on for the org first.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Hit Connect on its row and sign in through the window TomTom opens itself. If the link breaks at some point, choose Disconnect and connect again from that same row.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Before you accept, read the authorization screen. It belongs to TomTom, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. You can also withdraw that access later from your TomTom account.

Tools

All 15 tools, grouped by what they do

TomTom Maps gives Claude 15 tools: 14 that read your account, 0 that change something in it, and 1 no official source describes.

Two groups: what Claude looks up or displays, and the one tool no source describes. Tool names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude looks up (14)

14 tools

Search, routing, traffic and maps: these tools query TomTom's services without changing anything in your account.

tomtom-geocode

Turns a street address into latitude and longitude, ready to feed a route calculation or a map.

When it helps
you have street addresses and need their coordinates for a route or a map.
Watch out
TomTom notes it doesn't handle points of interest; for a store or landmark, use one of the search tools instead.

tomtom-reverse-geocode

Starts from GPS coordinates and finds the matching address,, so a pair of numbers becomes a street address you can read.

When it helps
a location report arrives as raw coordinates and you need to know which street it points to.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-nearby

Discovers what services sit within a radius of a given point. With the Orbis backend, TomTom says tool responses come with an interactive map right in the chat.

When it helps
you have a point and want the services within a radius of it.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-search-along-route

Looks for points of interest such as restaurants, gas stations or hotels inside the corridor of a route between an origin and a destination, rather than around a single spot.

When it helps
you want stops on the way between two places rather than around one point.
Watch out
available on Orbis only.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-routing

Works out the best path between locations. TomTom describes the result as the optimal route. For an electric vehicle that needs charging stops, the dedicated tool is tomtom-ev-routing.

When it helps
you have several locations to link and want the route TomTom calculates.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-reachable-range

Outlines the area you can cover from a point within a fixed time or driving distance, so you see how far a trip can stretch.

When it helps
you want to see the area that a fixed time or driving distance covers from one point.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-ev-routing

Plans a long electric-vehicle journey and places charging stops automatically based on battery state, vehicle model and connector compatibility. Unlike tomtom-routing, it takes the battery and the car into account.

When it helps
a long electric-vehicle trip needs its charging stops placed along the way.
Watch out
an Orbis-only tool.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-traffic

Looks up current incidents in an area, from crashes and dangerous conditions to road closures. It isn't one of the five tools TomTom reserves for its Orbis backend.

When it helps
you want the incidents, closures or dangerous conditions in an area before a trip.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-dynamic-map

Renders a detailed map with custom markers, a drawn route and a traffic overlay, so you see the answer instead of reading it.

When it helps
a route or a set of points reads better on a map than in a list.

Sourcedocs.tomtom.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tomtom-data-viz

Lays your own GeoJSON data over an interactive TomTom basemap as markers, heatmaps, clusters, lines, filled polygons or choropleth maps.

When it helps
you have your own GeoJSON data and want to see it on a map.
Watch out
Orbis-only, like the other advanced tools.

Undocumented (1)

1 tool

The directory publishes this name and nothing more. TomTom's tools page doesn't mention it, and we won't guess its job from the name.

tomtom-poi-categories

This name is on the directory's tool list, and that's everything we know. TomTom's server documentation doesn't cover it and neither does any Claude page, so this page gives it no role at all.

Watch out
whatever it does, the general approval rule further down applies to it.
Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before every action it takes on an account for you. With TomTom Maps, no documented tool changes anything.

The 14 described tools search, calculate or display: no source credits them with writing, and none describes a confirmation specific to one of them. The fifteenth is undocumented and falls under the default rule. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners can restrict what the connector may do across the org and decide whether a member can let some actions through without being asked again. Claude works with your TomTom access and nothing beyond it.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability, and nobody publishes it connector by connector.

Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner first switches the connector on for the org. That rule is Anthropic's and covers every connector, not TomTom Maps in particular. For the current status, check the TomTom Maps sheet in the directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector isn't an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing fires when traffic changes.

Only TomTom documents this connector, in its server documentation; neither Claude's help center nor Anthropic's docs have a page on it. A sheet that shows only reading is an observed floor, not a guarantee, since an admin can open more than a public sheet lists. The directory's partner badge isn't a security audit, and Anthropic notes on every sheet that it doesn't pick a publisher's tools or vouch for how they behave.

FAQ

Claude TomTom Maps connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the Claude TomTom Maps connector?
Claude can answer place, route and traffic questions by calling TomTom's services. The documented tools cover converting between addresses and coordinates, finding places by name, category, radius or area, calculating routes including electric-vehicle trips, mapping a reachable range, checking traffic incidents and rendering maps. A fifteenth tool appears in the directory with no description at all, so this page gives it no role. Several of the advanced tools also require TomTom's Orbis backend to work.
02Can Claude change anything in my TomTom account?
Nothing of the kind is described. The 14 documented tools search, calculate or display, and none is presented as writing to your account; the fifteenth isn't documented anywhere. That holds for the public sheet as it stands today, and an admin could open actions that don't show up there, so it's an observed floor rather than a guarantee. Five of the documented tools also depend on TomTom's Orbis backend to run at all.
03Does Claude ask before acting with TomTom Maps?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before any action it takes on an account on your behalf. With TomTom Maps, no source describes a confirmation specific to any tool, and no documented tool changes your account, so the general rule covers everything, the undocumented tool included. On Team and Enterprise, owners can also restrict what the connector does for the whole organization. The official read-or-write label for each tool only shows in a connected account's settings.
04Which plans is the TomTom Maps connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability for an individual connector, and no directory sheet displays it. Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. For the current status, open the connector's sheet in the official directory while signed in to your account. On Team and Enterprise, members can only connect once that activation is done.
05Does Claude see my whole TomTom account?
No. Claude works with your rights and nothing more, so whatever your TomTom access doesn't open stays closed to Claude as well. The documented tools query mapping, search, routing and traffic services, and no source describes access to your account settings or billing. In a company workspace, an owner can narrow what the connector is allowed to do for the whole team even further. The official read-or-write label for each tool only shows in a connected account's settings.
06Why do some TomTom tools not respond?
One documented reason: five tools are reserved for TomTom's Orbis backend, namely charging-station search, EV routing, search along a route, area search and data visualization. Without that backend they don't apply. TomTom groups them under EV & Advanced Search and says they use its Maps SDK for JavaScript for interactive visualizations. TomTom also reminds users that the remote server is in public preview. Finally, address geocoding doesn't handle points of interest, so for a named place you need one of the search tools.
07Claude or an automation tool for TomTom Maps?
They do different jobs, so pick by use case. Claude fits when you want to work through a place or route question in conversation: compare two routes, check traffic, pull up a map. An automation tool fits when something has to happen without you, such as checking traffic on a schedule, because the connector never fires by itself and only acts while Claude is answering you. With the Orbis backend, TomTom says tool responses come with an interactive map right in the chat.
