Claude Wolfram connectorWhat Claude can compute with Wolfram.
The Claude Wolfram connector exposes 3 tools: 3 read tools, 0 write tools. One pulls context from Wolfram, one runs Wolfram Language code, one queries Wolfram|Alpha. Below: what each returns, what it cannot do, and who can turn it off.

What changes when an answer needs real math
When your question needs an exact result (an equation, a hard figure about a country or a molecule), Claude can hand it to Wolfram instead of estimating. Per the publisher, Claude spots the need and calls the tools on its own, so you keep chatting the way you always do.
Code written and run for you. With WolframLanguageEvaluator, Claude writes Wolfram Language and runs it in a Wolfram kernel, the engine that executes that language. You get a computed result, not a worded guess.
Plain-language questions. WolframAlpha sends a normally phrased query to Wolfram|Alpha and returns up-to-date results about entities in chemistry, physics, geography, history, art or astronomy.
Context first. WolframContext runs a semantic search (by meaning, not exact keywords) across Wolfram's material and surfaces what is relevant to your question.
What the connector cannot do, per Wolfram's own page: keep a session between calls, take or return a file, or deploy a custom server. The kernel starts from scratch on every evaluation. And nothing runs by itself: no calculation re-runs without a new question. For the automation side, the Wolfram|Alpha page for n8n covers a different use, calls built into a workflow that runs without you; the Integrations hub has the rest.
The vocabulary in one minute
Five words to know before adding Wolfram to Claude.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an outside service, so Claude can use it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own; the directory sheet lists them by name.
- Directory
- The official catalog where each connector has a sheet, with its publisher, its purpose and its list of tools.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with something that changes an account, shown right in the chat.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant talk to an outside service. You will meet the acronym elsewhere.
Connect Wolfram to Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Wolfram in Claude
In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and locate Wolfram in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization first.
- 02
Start the connection
Click Connect on its row. If Wolfram opens a sign-in window of its own, that is where you identify yourself, not inside Claude. If the link breaks later, use Disconnect and connect again.
- 03
Read what you approve
If an authorization screen appears, read it before you accept: it belongs to the service, and it sets what the access covers. Then ask Claude something that needs a precise calculation.
The 3 tools and what each one computes or finds
Wolfram gives Claude 3 tools: 3 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.
Three tools, all flagged read-only by Wolfram's server. Their names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude looks up (3)
3 toolsThree tools that return results or information and change nothing on your side.
WolframContext
Runs a semantic search over Wolfram's material and brings back whatever sheds light on your question. The search works on meaning rather than exact keywords, and Wolfram's server flags it read-only.
WolframLanguageEvaluator
Executes Wolfram Language code for you in a Wolfram kernel and returns the output. Every call stands alone: a definition set in one evaluation is gone by the next.
WolframAlpha
Passes your natural-language question to Wolfram|Alpha and returns current results about entities in chemistry, physics, geography, history, art or astronomy.
What Claude asks before it acts
By default, Claude stops and asks before every action it takes on an account on your behalf. The three Wolfram tools only compute or search, and no source describes a confirmation specific to them.
On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without approving each one. They can also cap what a connector may do for the whole organization, and no one gets around that from a personal account. The three Wolfram tools are flagged read-only by the publisher's server. On data, Wolfram says it only receives the specific queries Claude sends to its tools: the rest of your conversation stays inside Claude.
Which plans include it
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Connector by connector, that information is not published anywhere.
The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables them for the organization first. For Wolfram's current status on your account, check its sheet in the official directory, the only place that shows it.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you; no calculation re-runs by itself when a value changes.
Only the publisher documents this connector; Anthropic has no page about it. Its tool list is an observed floor, not a guarantee. The directory badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose which tools a publisher exposes and does not vouch for how they behave. Here the publisher is Wolfram Research itself, offering this connector under its own name.
