Claude Xero connectorWhat Claude can do in your Xero account.
The Claude Xero connector exposes 19 tools: 19 read, 0 write. Claude answers questions about your profit, cash, invoices and customers from live Xero data, then links back to the source. Below: what it reads, why your books stay untouched, and what to set up first.

What the Claude Xero connector changes for a small business
You stop building reports to answer simple questions. Ask Claude what your profit was this quarter or who still owes you money, and it pulls the answer from your live Xero data, in plain English, with a link back to Xero so you can check, without opening a single report.
See the quarter at a glance. Xero's own example is a profit question answered with a plain-English P&L summary; get_profit_and_loss is the tool behind it.
Know who to chase. Ask who owes you money and Claude surfaces overdue invoices and your top customers from your records, so the calls you make on Monday go to the right people first.
Check cash before a big payment. With get_cash_position, Claude gives your balance and sets what you are owed against what you owe.
Now what it will not do. Xero states the connector has no write actions: Claude cannot edit an invoice, post a transaction or change anything in your books. You follow the link back to Xero and make the change yourself. It is also not tax, compliance or financial advice, Xero adds. Nothing runs on a schedule either: if you want a reminder sent each time an invoice goes overdue, that is an automation tool's job, a different trade covered by the Xero n8n integration and the Xero Make integration.
Five words before you connect Xero
The Claude vocabulary around this connector, in one minute.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already own, so Claude can work with that account while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing the connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the tools it needs on its own; the directory lists all 19 by name.
- Authorization
- Xero's own sign-in screen, where you grant the access Claude will use. You give it once per person, and you can take it back later from Xero.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it changes something in an account. With Xero's read only tools, there is nothing to change.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant such as Claude talk to an outside service like Xero.
Connect Xero to Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Xero in Claude
Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look up Xero. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable the connector before members can each sign in.
- 02
Start the connection
Click Connect on the Xero row, then sign in with your usual Xero login in the window Xero opens itself. If the link ever breaks, Disconnect and connect again.
- 03
Read the authorization screen
Check Xero's authorization screen before you accept. That screen belongs to Xero, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. You can withdraw that access later from the Xero side as well.
The 19 tools, all on the reading side
Xero gives Claude 19 tools: 19 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.
Every tool reads. Xero describes the connector as a whole, not tool by tool, so the notes say what is sourced and flag what is not. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (19)
19 toolsNineteen tools that look at your books and leave them exactly as they are.
get_financial_position
Its name refers to your financial position. Xero does not describe this tool on its own; it sits in the reading column only because Xero says of the whole connector that “Claude reads your data”. What it returns is not documented.
get_cash_position
Returns your current balance and sets what you are owed against what you owe, the answer Xero shows for a cash question asked in plain words.
get_profit_and_loss
Produces the plain-English P&L summary Xero uses as its first example, built from your own figures for the period you ask about.
get_top_customers_by_revenue
Brings up the customers who weigh most in your revenue. Xero pairs this with overdue invoices when you ask who owes you money, so both appear in the same answer.
get_organisation_financial_year
Named after your organization's financial year, this tool gets no description of its own from Xero. Its reading status comes from one general line, “Claude reads your data”, and its returned fields are unpublished.
get_organisation_info
The name points to information about your Xero organization. Xero describes the connector as a whole, not this tool: “Claude reads your data” is the line that classes it, and nothing says which details come back.
get_aged_receivables
Belongs to the receivables side Xero highlights: money customers owe you, overdue invoices included. Its exact output is not documented tool by tool.
get_aged_payables
What you owe is the object its name refers to, sorted by age. Xero does not describe this tool separately; it counts as reading from the general phrase “Claude reads your data”, and the fields it returns are not published.
get_invoices
Gives Claude a view of your invoice records, a subject Xero's own examples keep returning to: outstanding and overdue invoices. What it returns field by field is not published.
show_invoices_summary
An invoice summary is what this name refers to, and it is the only tool here starting with show. Xero does not say how it differs from the invoice tool; it reads per the line “Claude reads your data”, with an undocumented output.
get_contacts
Contacts in your Xero file are what the name refers to. Xero does not describe the tool on its own, it reads because Xero says “Claude reads your data” of every tool, and the fields returned are not documented.
get_bills
Behind this name are supplier bills. The tool has no description of its own from Xero; the general line “Claude reads your data” is what puts it on the reading side, and which fields come back is unpublished.
get_repeating_invoices
Repeating invoices are the object its name names. Xero never describes the tool individually; it reads by virtue of the connector-wide phrase “Claude reads your data”, and its output is not documented.
get_repeating_bills
Supplier bills set to repeat are what the name points at. No Xero page describes the tool by itself; reading is its direction because Xero says “Claude reads your data” for the whole connector. Returned fields: undocumented.
get_tracking_categories
Tracking categories are what this name refers to. Xero leaves the tool undescribed; it is reading-only per the general sentence “Claude reads your data”, and nothing documents what it returns.
get_purchase_orders
Purchase orders give this tool its name. Xero has no separate description for it: the connector-wide line “Claude reads your data” classes it as reading, and its fields are not published.
get_chart_of_accounts
By its name, this one concerns your chart of accounts. Xero publishes no description of the tool itself; its reading status rests on “Claude reads your data”, said of the whole connector, and its output is undocumented.
get_bank_account_transactions
Bank account transactions are the object in its name. Xero does not describe this tool on its own; the general phrase “Claude reads your data” is what classes it, and the fields it returns are not documented.
get_1099_report_summary
A US tax form, the 1099, gives this tool its name. Xero does not describe it; it reads only per the connector-wide “Claude reads your data”, and what the summary holds is unpublished.
What Claude checks with you first
By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account for someone. With Xero the question rarely comes up: all 19 tools only read.
The general rule still frames the connector. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a prompt each time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, keeping reading on and writing off, and nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing more: a Xero organization you cannot open stays out of its reach, and you choose which one it sees.
Which plans include it
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. The answer per connector is published nowhere, and that is a real gap in the catalog.
What is published is the general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can each connect. Xero's own page says something on the subject too; the limits section below puts both side by side. For the live state, check the Xero sheet in the official directory. Only Xero documents this connector; no Claude help article covers it.
Where the Xero connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing happens when an invoice goes overdue or a payment lands.
Xero calls the connection read only. It says your data disappears once the chat ends and is never used to train AI models; the directory sheet adds that retrieved data is not stored between sessions. The partner badge in the directory is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it neither picks the tools a publisher exposes nor guarantees they behave as announced. Xero also separates this connector from its MCP server for developers, which is a different product for custom workflows. For a connector that sends as well as reads, see the Claude gmail connector.
Which Claude plans can use the Xero connector?
- Claude help center, general connector rule ↗September 2026Remote connectors are open to all users; on Team and Enterprise an Owner has to enable each one first.
- Xero's page on its Claude connector ↗September 2026Xero says a Claude account on a free or paid plan is all you need on the Claude side.
What this page followsThe two point the same way, and neither is outdated. One is Anthropic's rule for every connector, the other is the publisher speaking about its own. Check the directory sheet on your own account before relying on either.
