What can the DataMerge Make integration do for you?

The DataMerge Make integration lets a Make scenario, the automation you build as a chain of modules, ask DataMerge about a company and pass the answer to your other apps. Each module is one brick of that chain: here, 4 actions and 1 search, all without writing code.

An enrichment request fired from a new lead. When a company appears in another app, Start Company Enrichment sends it to DataMerge, and Get Company Enrichment Result collects what came back so the next module can store it.

A lookup when you already hold an identifier. Find Company by ID is the search module: it returns zero, one or several bundles, the items that flow from one module to the next, which you then map into a sheet or a CRM.

A view of parent and child companies. Going by its name, Get Company Hierarchy fetches how a company sits within its group, useful before you assign an account to a sales rep.

One honest limit: Make's own documentation says it cannot fully document DataMerge yet, so field names are only visible once you open a module. For anything the five modules skip, Make an API Call reaches the rest of the API with the same connection. How do you connect DataMerge to Make?

    Add a DataMerge module

    Open your scenario, click the + and search for DataMerge. Pick any of its modules, then click Create a connection. A connection is your DataMerge account linked to Make once and reused by every DataMerge module.

    Name the connection

    This step is optional, but a clear name such as the workspace or client it belongs to saves confusion later, especially when several people build scenarios in the same Make organization.

    Authorize and save

    Depending on what DataMerge asks for, either authorize Make on the DataMerge page that opens or paste the key DataMerge gives you. Then click Save and the module is ready to fill.

First scenario

Your first scenario with DataMerge

GoalWhen a new company shows up in another app, Make asks DataMerge to enrich it and fetches the result for the next module.

    Create the scenario

    From the Scenarios page, create a new scenario and click the + to add the first module. Since DataMerge has no trigger, start with a module from the app that holds your new companies.

    Add Start Company Enrichment

    Click the + to the right of that first module, search for DataMerge and choose Start Company Enrichment. Create the connection, then map the company data from the previous module into its fields.

    Collect the result

    Add Get Company Enrichment Result next and map what the previous module returned. Its output is what you will send on to your CRM or spreadsheet.

    Test with Run once

    Click Run once. Make executes the scenario a single time and shows the bundles each module received, so you can check which fields DataMerge actually filled.

    Schedule and switch on

    Open the clock on the first module to set the schedule, every 15 minutes by default, then switch the scenario on. Every module run on one bundle counts as one operation on your plan.

Yes, on Make's side. DataMerge is a standard app, so its modules are available from the Free plan, alongside 3,000+ other standard apps. The Free plan keeps 2 active scenarios, runs scheduled scenarios at most every 15 minutes, caps a run at 5 minutes and allows 512 MB of data transfer. Paid plans (Core, Pro, Teams, Enterprise) lower the interval to 1 minute and count usage in credits each month. Your DataMerge subscription is a separate matter that this page does not cover.
02What do you need to connect DataMerge to Make?
A DataMerge account and a Make account. Make's documentation lists no specific prerequisite for DataMerge, so the usual flow applies: add a DataMerge module, click Create a connection, optionally name it, then authorize Make on the DataMerge page or paste the key DataMerge provides, and save. The connection is created once and every DataMerge module in your scenarios reuses it, so you never repeat the setup module by module or scenario by scenario.
03Can a DataMerge scenario start in real time?
Not from DataMerge itself, because the app has no trigger module in Make. A scenario can still start in two ways. You can place a trigger from another app first, for example the tool where new companies appear, and let DataMerge modules follow it. Or you can rely on scheduling, the clock on the first module, which runs every 15 minutes by default on a new scenario. Whether that feels instant depends on the first app you choose, not on DataMerge.
04What if a DataMerge module is missing in Make?
Use Make an API Call. It is part of the DataMerge app in Make and lets you call any endpoint of the DataMerge API with the connection you already have. Keep in mind that Make currently flags its DataMerge documentation as limited because not enough public information exists, so there are no published limits or troubleshooting notes to lean on. Test each call with Run once and read the returned bundle before wiring it to other apps.
