Overview

What the 46elks Zapier integration does for you

The 46elks Zapier integration links your 46elks phone numbers to the rest of your tools. A text that arrives can start a workflow, and any event in another app can send an SMS or set up a call through 46elks, without anyone typing a message by hand, ever.

Three results come out of it. First, an automatic reply: Incoming SMS catches the text and Send SMS answers it, from a 46elks number or a sender name of up to 11 letters. Second, a callback that dials itself: when a lead fills in a form, Make Phone Call rings your sales line first, then connects it to the lead once someone picks up. Third, an account alert: Account Data Change notices when your balance, name or email changes, so a low balance never goes unseen.

The single most useful thing to know: of the two triggers, Incoming SMS is the only instant one. It reacts straight away even on the free plan, while Account Data Change waits for the plan interval. Neither zapier.com nor the help center points this out.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no search step for 46elks, so a Zap cannot look up a past message or call. And nothing that happened before the Zap was switched on gets replayed. Comparing tools first? The Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier comparisons set out the criteria without naming a winner.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words cover the whole page. Read them once and the rest follows.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts a Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. 46elks offers two, including an incoming text.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, such as an SMS or a call.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. The number on your plan counts those, and nothing else.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer: it asks the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeps only what it has not seen.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself: it calls Zapier the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for the next check.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it right there otherwise.
Cost

What the 46elks Zapier integration really costs

Zapier bills tasks, and only actions count. Neither trigger costs anything, and Zapier checking for new data is free however often it looks.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month
  • Free plan Zap size2 steps
  • Premium appNo
  • Cost of a trigger0 tasks

Each Send SMS or Make Phone Call that succeeds is one task, so a Zap that replies by text and then logs the exchange uses two. A failed action is not counted. 46elks is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, but Zaps of two steps only. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The grid below sets how often Account Data Change is checked; Incoming SMS ignores it.

Connect

Connect 46elks to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

Open Apps and add a connection

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. You need a 46elks account before you start, since Zapier links an existing account and does not create one.

  2. 02

    Find 46elks and confirm

Type 46elks in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the list, then click Add connection. A new tab then opens on the 46elks side to finish the job.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to 46elks in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. Back in Zapier, the connection appears in your list: linked once, then reused by every 46elks step of every Zap.

First Zap

Your first Zap: answer every incoming text

GoalEvery SMS that reaches your 46elks number gets an automatic reply, and the exchange is logged in a sheet.

  1. 01

    Pick Incoming SMS

Create a Zap, choose 46elks as the app that starts it, then Incoming SMS as the event. In To Number, set the 46elks number customers write to.

  2. 02

    Test with a real text

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent texts on that number, so send one first if the line is new, then pick it to map the next steps.

  3. 03

    Add Send SMS

Add an action, choose 46elks, then Send SMS. Put the sender of the incoming text in To, your 46elks number or sender name in From, and write a short Message Text.

  4. 04

    Log the exchange

Add a second action that writes the text and the reply into a sheet. Two actions make the Zap multi-step, so this needs a paid plan; on the free plan, stop at the reply.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and check that the reply really reached your phone before going further. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on.

Triggers

The 2 triggers of 46elks on Zapier

2 events start a Zap when something happens in 46elks, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Account Data Change

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when your account data changes. May be used to check if your account balance, name or email have changed.”

Starts a Zap when something changes on your 46elks account itself, such as the balance, the account name or the email address on file. It turns a quiet dashboard value into a signal your team can act on.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
finance wants a message in the team chat whenever the balance moves, before a campaign runs dry halfway through.
Watch out
it reports a change after the fact, at the next check, so it suits monitoring better than anything that must react at once.
2

Incoming SMS

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an SMS is received by a specific number from your 46elks account.”

Every time a text reaches one of your 46elks numbers, this trigger hands the sender and the message to the steps that follow. It is the door through which customer replies, opt-outs and keyword requests enter your workflow.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
customers answer a delivery notice by text and support needs those answers in the help desk without copying them over.
Watch out
To Number is required, so the Zap only listens to the one 46elks number you pick there.
Actions

The 2 actions of 46elks on Zapier

46elks gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Make Phone Call

Action

In Zapier“Connects two numbers to each other.”

Places a call through one of your 46elks numbers: it rings the Call From number first, then connects it to Call To once that first person picks up.

When to use it
a lead asks for a callback on your site, and your sales line rings first so the rep is already on the phone when the lead answers.
Watch out
all three numbers are required and must be in international format, country code first, so map them that way from the start.
2

Send SMS

Action

In Zapier“Sends a SMS to the specified phone numbers.”

Sends a text from your 46elks account, either from one of your numbers or under a sender name of up to 11 letters, to the number you map in To.

When to use it
an order ships in your store and the customer gets a short notice without anyone writing it.
Watch out
numbers go in international format, and a message longer than one standard SMS costs more on the 46elks side. Flash SMS shows the text without storing it.
When it breaks

When the 46elks Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to 46elks, so the cases below are the general Zapier limits that hit an SMS or call Zap.

If a Zap stops for a reason not listed here, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the checks to run.

  • Old texts are never replayed

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Messages that reached your number before that stay untouched, and moving them is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps texting itself

If the Zap sends its SMS to the very number its Incoming SMS trigger watches, each reply starts it again, and the task count drains fast.
  • A sudden flood gets held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running everything.
  • The same change does not fire twice

On a polling trigger like Account Data Change, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so one change does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

46elks and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the 46elks Zapier integration free?
Yes on the Zapier side, because 46elks is not a premium app and works on the free plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps: one trigger and one action, such as Incoming SMS followed by Send SMS. Adding a filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, and that needs a paid plan. The texts and calls themselves are billed by 46elks, under its own terms.
02How many Zapier tasks does an SMS use?
One per successful action. Each Send SMS or Make Phone Call that goes through counts as one task, whatever the message says. The triggers cost nothing, and Zapier checking for new data is free as well. A failed action is not counted. A few apps and actions take more than one task when they complete, so one message does not always mean exactly one task. On the free plan, 100 tasks a month is the ceiling.
03Does 46elks work in real time with Zapier?
Partly. Incoming SMS is an instant trigger: 46elks tells Zapier the moment a text arrives, on every plan, and the editor shows a lightning bolt on that Zap. Account Data Change is a polling trigger: Zapier checks every 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. If speed matters, build around Incoming SMS rather than around account changes, and simply keep the polling trigger for monitoring.
04What is needed to connect 46elks to Zapier?
A 46elks account and a Zapier account. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for 46elks, confirm with Add connection, then sign in and grant access in the tab that opens. The connection is saved once and reused by every 46elks step. To use the triggers and the call action, the account also needs at least one 46elks number to pick in the required fields. For a new Zap there is no need to connect again: just pick the account already linked.
05Why does a 46elks SMS or call fail to go out?
Check the number format first. Send SMS and Make Phone Call both expect numbers in international format, with the country code, so map them that way from the start. The From field takes either one of your 46elks numbers or a sender name of up to 11 letters, nothing longer. And a Message Text longer than one standard SMS is still sent, but costs more on the 46elks side. Fix the format, then rerun the step test.
06What if the 46elks operation required is missing?
Then Zapier cannot do it with 46elks alone. The integration covers 2 triggers and 2 actions: account changes, incoming texts, sending an SMS and placing a call. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an older message or call. The workable options are to store each exchange in another app as it happens, or to compare other automation tools before committing. The full list of operations sits in the blocks above.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for 46elks?
Decide by criteria, not by brand. Zapier fits when the 2 triggers and 2 actions listed here cover the job, and when an instant trigger on incoming texts matters even on the free plan. For Make or n8n, first check that a 46elks module or node exists, then compare setup effort, how each run is billed and where the tool is hosted. The right pick already covers your exact operation.
