Abstract Zapier integrationAutomate Abstract with Zapier.

The Abstract Zapier integration gives you 7 actions, 0 triggers and 0 searches. Abstract never starts a Zap itself: another app hands it an email, a phone number, an IP address or a domain, and Abstract checks it or fills in the blanks.

Overview

What the Abstract Zapier integration actually does

Connecting Abstract to Zapier means plugging a checking service into the middle of an automation. A Zap (the automation you build on Zapier: one event that starts it, then the steps that follow) receives a raw value from a form, a CRM or a spreadsheet, and Abstract tells you whether that value holds up before the rest of the workflow uses it.

Three outcomes come up again and again. First, a cleaner mailing list: a webinar sign-up lands, Validate Email Deliverability checks the address, and only the ones that pass reach your email tool. Second, a qualified B2B lead: a sales rep receives a bare website address from a demo request, and Enrich Company Domain adds what Abstract knows about the company behind it. Third, a suspicious-signup alert: a trial account arrives with an IP address, IP Abuse Lookup returns security and location details, and a support agent decides whether to look closer.

Now the limits. Abstract on Zapier has no trigger at all, so it cannot tell a Zap that something happened on its side. Every Zap starts in another app. It has no search step either, and nothing that writes, sends or deletes: the 7 actions read a value and hand back details, full stop. What you do with the answer (tag the contact, drop the row, ping a channel) happens in the next app.

If you are still weighing the platform itself, the Zapier review covers its strengths and weak spots, and Make vs Zapier lays out the criteria side by side.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words carry the whole page. Each one is defined here once, then used as is.

Zap
The automation itself: one event that starts it, then one or more steps that run every single time that event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Abstract has none, so the trigger always comes from another app, such as a form or a CRM.
Action
What the Zap does once started. On this page, an action sends one value to Abstract and brings back what Abstract found.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer set by your plan. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the data meets your condition, for example only when Abstract says the email is deliverable.
Connection
Your Abstract account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap step that calls Abstract.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What Abstract on Zapier really costs

Abstract is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan. The bill is counted in tasks, and only finished actions count.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, Abstract works on the free plan
  • What countsEach successful action, never the trigger

The trigger from your other app is free, and so is every check Zapier makes for new data. Each Abstract action that succeeds is one task; one that fails is not charged. The catch: the free plan stops at two steps. A Zap that checks an address and then acts on the answer needs a filter or a second action, and that makes it multi-step, which means a paid plan. And each extra Abstract action counts on its own: a Zap with three actions uses three times the tasks of a one-action Zap.

Connect

Connect your Abstract account

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps. That is where every connection lives. You need an Abstract account before you start, and that account is what every Abstract step will use.

  2. 02

    Add Abstract

Click + Add connection, type Abstract in the dialog and pick it from the list. Then click Add connection, and a new browser tab opens on the Abstract side.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Abstract in that tab and allow Zapier to use the account. Once that is done, the connection shows up in the list and any Zap step can reuse it without asking again.

First Zap

Your first Zap: verify newsletter sign-ups before they reach Mailchimp

GoalA marketer collects sign-ups with Typeform and wants only deliverable addresses added to the Mailchimp list.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Create a Zap and choose Typeform with its new entry event. Testing it brings back the three most recent entries of the connected account, so you map fields on a real sign-up.

  2. 02

    Add the Abstract action

Add a step, pick Abstract, then Validate Email Deliverability. Map the email answer from the form into the one required box, Email to verify.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add Filter and set it in Configure & test: the field Abstract returned, the rule, the value that means deliverable. Pick a text rule for a text field.

  4. 04

    Send to Mailchimp

Add the Mailchimp step and map the address. This Zap has four steps, so it is multi-step and needs a paid plan, even though Abstract itself is free to connect.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and read what came back before going further. When the answers look right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only new entries will flow through.

Actions

The 7 Abstract actions, grouped by what you want to check

Abstract gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Enrich Company Domain

Action

In Zapier“Enrich a domain with information about the company”

Takes a company domain and returns information about the business behind it. It turns a bare website address from a form into something a sales rep can read.

When to use it
on a demo request, before the lead lands in the CRM, so it arrives with company context.
Watch out
map a domain, not a full email address, into Company domain.
2

Validate Email Address

Action

In Zapier“Validate the deliverability and reputation of email addresses to prevent fraudulent signups and minimize bounce risks.”

Goes further than delivery and looks at the reputation of the address too. The aim is to spot sign-ups that look fraudulent and addresses likely to bounce.

When to use it
on a free-trial form that attracts throwaway accounts, where you want a second look before granting access.
Watch out
its only required field is Email, distinct from the deliverability action.
3

Validate Email Deliverability

Action

In Zapier“Validate the deliverability of an email address”

Asks Abstract whether a message sent to this address would actually arrive. You give it one address and get back a verdict you can test in the next step.

When to use it
right before an address goes into a newsletter list, so dead mailboxes never inflate your bounce rate.
Watch out
the field is named Email to verify, so map the address there and nothing else.
4

Geolocate IP Address

Action

In Zapier“Get the location of any IP address, city, region, country lat/long data, and more.”

Turns an IP address into a place: city, region, country and coordinates, among other data. Useful whenever a tool records the address of a visitor but not where they are.

When to use it
routing inbound leads to the sales rep who covers that country.
Watch out
the trigger app must store the IP address, otherwise the required field stays empty.
5

IP Abuse Lookup

Action

In Zapier“Get the location of any IP address, security, asn , company, domains, location, timezone, currency y flag”

Looks an IP address up from a security angle and also brings location, network, company, domain, time zone and currency details. The security part is what sets it apart from plain geolocation.

When to use it
flagging trial sign-ups that come from addresses worth a second look.
Watch out
a lookup is one task, even when nothing suspicious turns up.
6

Check Phone Number

Action

In Zapier“Determine the validity and other details of a phone number”

Sends a phone number to Abstract and returns whether it is valid, along with other details about it. Handy when numbers are typed by hand and often half wrong.

When to use it
after a callback request, so the sales team does not dial a number that cannot exist.
Watch out
Zapier gives it the same description as Validate Phone Number; test both on the same number.
7

Validate Phone Number

Action

In Zapier“Determine the validity and other details of a phone number”

The second phone check in the list, also built to tell you whether a number is valid and what else Abstract knows about it. Its single required box is Phone Number.

When to use it
in a Zap that books delivery slots, where a wrong number means a missed handover.
Watch out
compare its test output with Check Phone Number before you pick one.
When it breaks

When an Abstract Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article to Abstract, and the app page lists no limit of its own. What breaks comes from how Zaps work in general.

Four cases cover most of the surprises. When one bites, Zapier troubleshooting walks through the diagnosis step by step.

  • Old records are never checked

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. The addresses already in your sheet stay unchecked; cleaning that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap that sets itself off

If you write the Abstract verdict back into the very sheet or table the trigger watches, each update can start the Zap again and burn through tasks fast.
  • A bulk import gets held back

When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of checking everything.
  • Duplicates are filtered out

On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same row or entry never starts the Zap twice. Re-checking an item takes a new event.

FAQ

Abstract Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Abstract Zapier integration free?
Yes, as far as Zapier goes. Abstract is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The limit that matters is elsewhere: on the free plan a Zap holds two steps, one trigger and one action. A Zap that starts in a form and calls one Abstract action fits. Add a filter to act on the answer and the Zap becomes multi-step, which requires a paid plan. Your Abstract account itself is a separate matter, handled on the Abstract side.
02How many tasks does an Abstract check use?
One per successful action. Each time Validate Email Deliverability or Geolocate IP Address completes, Zapier counts one task. The trigger from the other app costs nothing, and neither do the checks Zapier runs looking for new data. An action that fails is not counted. In a Zap that runs two Abstract actions on the same lead, say a domain enrichment and a phone check, each success counts separately, so that Zap uses two tasks per lead. A few actions on Zapier take more than one task, so keep an eye on your task count.
03Does an Abstract Zap run in real time?
It depends entirely on the app that starts it, because Abstract has no trigger. If that app offers an instant trigger, it tells Zapier the moment the event happens and the Abstract check follows straight away, whatever your plan. If it uses a polling trigger, Zapier looks for new items on a timer: every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 minutes on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. An instant trigger shows a lightning bolt in the editor, which is the quickest way to tell.
04What do you need to connect Abstract to Zapier?
An Abstract account, and access to the Apps page of your Zapier account. From there you click + Add connection, search for Abstract, click Add connection, sign in to Abstract in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. The connection is created once, then every Zap step that calls Abstract reuses it. If the Zap touches data you do not own yourself, such as a teammate's spreadsheet, you also need read or write access to it in that other app.
05Why does an Abstract action fail with an empty field?
Because each of the 7 actions has one required input and nothing else to fall back on. Validate Email Address wants an Email, Geolocate IP Address wants an IP address, Enrich Company Domain wants a Company domain, and the two phone actions want a Phone Number. When the trigger app does not capture that value, or a form leaves the question optional, the box arrives empty and the step cannot run. Test the trigger, check that the value really comes through, then map it.
06What if the Abstract action you want is missing?
Then it is not available in the Zap editor today. On Zapier, Abstract offers exactly 7 actions: two email checks, two phone checks, two IP lookups and one company enrichment. There is no trigger and no search step. Before adding another tool, read what each action already returns: IP Abuse Lookup, for instance, brings location details too, so a separate geolocation step may be redundant. If your workflow needs something outside that list, the next step is to look at what the other apps in your Zap can do, or at another automation platform.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Abstract?
Judge by criteria rather than by a winner. Zapier suits you if your checks are short chains, one trigger and one Abstract action, and you want them running on the free plan without setup work. The moment you branch on the result, every option asks something of you: on Zapier, a paid plan for multi-step Zaps; on Make or n8n, check how a branching scenario is counted before you build it. Volume matters too, since every successful Abstract action on Zapier is one task. List your expected checks per month before choosing.
