Overview

What the AmeriCommerce Zapier integration actually does

Zapier sits between your AmeriCommerce store and the rest of your tools. When something happens in the store (an order, a quote, a new customer), Zapier hears about it and runs the steps you lined up. No code, and every step is a menu you pick from, in a browser.

A clean order pipeline. New Valid Order only fires on orders that were not declined or cancelled, so the steps behind it never ship or bill a dead order. Pair it with Create or Update Order Shipment once the parcel leaves.

A catalog that stays in sync. When your supplier list or ERP is the real source of stock, Update Inventory pushes the quantity into AmeriCommerce, and Update Product fixes the rest of the listing.

Customer records you can trust. Customer Email Updated tells you when a buyer changes email address, and Find Customer plus Update Customer keep both sides aligned.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no delete action, so a product or customer removed from another tool stays in the store until you remove it by hand. There is no trigger on payments either; you watch the order instead. And no Zap reaches back into orders placed before it was switched on.

If you are weighing tools, the same store can also be wired through the AmeriCommerce Make integration, and our Make vs Zapier comparison lays out the differences in billing and building.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in AmeriCommerce that starts the Zap, like a new order. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that creates, updates or changes something for you in an app.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completed successfully; your plan counts those.
Instant vs polling
An instant trigger is reported by the app itself, right away. A polling one is checked by Zapier on a timer set by your plan.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something already in an app (a customer, an order) so the next steps can use what it found.
Cost

What an AmeriCommerce Zap really costs

AmeriCommerce is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. What you pay for is tasks.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Steps on the free plan2 (one trigger, one action)
  • Premium appNo, AmeriCommerce works on every plan
  • AmeriCommerce triggers10 instant, 0 polling

The trigger costs nothing, and neither does Zapier checking for new data. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, so a Zap with three actions uses three times more than a one-action Zap. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan stops at two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter, a search or a second action and you are on a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below only matters for polling triggers, and every AmeriCommerce trigger is instant.

Connect

Connect your AmeriCommerce store to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your store linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that touches it.

  2. 02

    Pick AmeriCommerce

Type AmeriCommerce in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. Zapier then opens a new tab where you sign in to your store.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Sign in to your store in that tab, then allow Zapier to use the account. If the Zap must edit items owned by someone else on the team, that account needs write access to them too.

First Zap

Your first Zap: update the buyer's record on each valid order

GoalEach valid order finds the buyer's customer record, then updates it.

  1. 01

    Build the trigger

In the Zap editor, click Build, pick AmeriCommerce, then the event New Valid Order. A lightning bolt shows up: this trigger is instant.

  2. 02

Test it on a real order

Click Test. Zapier brings back the three most recent orders of your store, so you map the next steps on a real one rather than on guesses.

  3. 03

    Add the search

Add Find Customer and map the buyer's email into Email Address. This step is what makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the update

Add Update Customer, map the email found by the search, and change only the settings you want, such as the default shipping address.

  5. 05

    Publish

Test each step once, read what came back, then click Publish. From then on, every valid order runs the Zap, and each action that succeeds counts one task.

Triggers

The 10 AmeriCommerce triggers

10 events start a Zap when something happens in AmeriCommerce, and 10 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Customer

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a customer is created in your AmeriCommerce store.”

Starts your Zap as soon as a customer account is created in your store. It is the cleanest way to welcome a buyer in your email tool without exporting lists.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a B2B shop that wants every new account reviewed by a sales rep the same day.
Watch out
customers created before the Zap went live are never picked up.
2

New Order

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new order (of any status) is created.”

Fires on every order created in the store, whatever its status, including the ones that will later be declined or cancelled. You get the full raw flow, good for counting, risky for fulfilment.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
logging every attempt, paid or not, into a reporting sheet your finance team reviews.
Watch out
if the next step ships or bills, switch to New Valid Order instead.
3

New Product

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a product is added.”

Reacts when a product is added to your catalog. Useful when the store is where listings are born and other tools (a marketplace feed, a print catalog, a team chat) need to hear about them.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
alerting your marketing lead each time a merchandiser publishes something new.
Watch out
a bulk import of products can send a large batch at once and get held back by Zapier.
4

New Quote

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new quote is added to your AmeriCommerce Store.”

Picks up each quote a buyer requests in your AmeriCommerce store. Each one is a buyer waiting for an answer, so it belongs in front of the people who reply.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a wholesale seller who wants each quote request turned into a task in the sales team's tool.
Watch out
the trigger only sees new quotes, not later edits to them.
5

New Valid Order

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new valid order (meaning not declined or cancelled) is created.”

Only lets through orders that were not declined or cancelled. Of the order triggers, this is the one to put in front of anything that costs money or moves stock.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
sending a paid order to your 3PL or warehouse tool without a manual check in between.
Watch out
an order declined later, after the Zap ran, is not pulled back; handle that case with Order Status Changed.
6

Order Status Changed

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an order status changes.”

Runs every time an order moves from one status to another. Pair it with a filter on the status value you see when you test the trigger, so the Zap only goes on for that one and ignores the rest.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
texting a buyer when their order reaches the status your team uses for shipped.
Watch out
without a filter, every status change runs the actions and burns tasks.
7

Order Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an order is updated.”

Catches any edit to an existing order, not just a status change. That makes it broad: almost any change made to an order can wake the Zap up.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
keeping a copy of each order in an outside database current after support staff make changes.
Watch out
if the same Zap writes back to the order with an action, it can set itself off in a loop.
8

Updated Customer

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a customer is updated in your AmeriCommerce store.”

Fires when a customer record changes in the store. Think of it as the mirror of New Customer: same people, but later in their life, when an address or a setting moves.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
pushing the new billing address to your invoicing tool so the next invoice is right.
Watch out
a Zap that uses Update Customer on the same record will trigger itself again.
9

Customer Email Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a customer's email address is updated.”

A narrower cousin of Updated Customer: it only reacts when a buyer's email address changes. Because the email is how most tools match a person, this is the change that breaks syncs if nobody catches it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
updating the contact in your newsletter tool before the next campaign bounces.
Watch out
the other tool must still find the person, so plan how it matches the old record.
10

Updated Product

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a product is updated on your AmeriCommerce store.”

Wakes up whenever a product in your catalog is edited. Handy when another channel copies your listings and must not drift from them.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
telling the content team when a product page changes, so the matching blog post stays accurate.
Watch out
an Update Product step on the same item in this Zap will fire this trigger again.
Actions

The 9 AmeriCommerce actions

AmeriCommerce gives you 9 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Change Order Status

Action

In Zapier“Changes an order's status”

Moves an order to a different status, the same change you would make by hand in the order screen.

When to use it
switching an order to shipped when your carrier tool confirms pickup.
Watch out
a Zap started by Order Status Changed that also uses this action can trigger itself.
2

Create Customer

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new customer in your AmeriCommerce Store”

Adds a new customer account to your store from data that lives elsewhere, such as a lead form or a CRM.

When to use it
giving a trade-show contact an account before they place a first order.
Watch out
the Email Address is required, so a lead without an email cannot become a customer.
3

Create or Update Order

Action

In Zapier“Creates or Updates an Order”

Writes an order into the store, or edits one that already exists. Several yes or no boxes (gift, approved, declined, captured, email sent) let you set the state in one go.

When to use it
recording phone orders taken by your sales team in another tool.
Watch out
one action covers two jobs, so check which order you target before publishing.
4

Create or Update Order Payment

Action

In Zapier“Creates or updates an order payment”

Adds a payment to an order, or edits one, with boxes for approved, declined, captured and void.

When to use it
recording a bank transfer your accountant confirmed outside the store.
Watch out
ticking the wrong box marks money as captured when it is not, so test it on a dummy order.
5

Create or Update Order Shipment

Action

In Zapier“Creates or updates an order shipment”

Attaches a shipment to an order, or edits an existing one, with an Email Sent box for the shipping notice.

When to use it
logging the parcel your logistics partner just dispatched, straight on the order.
Watch out
Zapier does not say what ticking Email Sent? does in your store, so try it on a test order before going live.
6

Create Product

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new product in your AmeriCommerce Store”

Puts a new item in your catalog without opening the admin. You send the core listing details from another tool.

When to use it
a supplier sheet that announces new references, turned into draft listings.
Watch out
Item Number, Item Name, Primary Category and Product Status are all required.
7

Update Customer

Action

In Zapier“Updates a customer in your AmeriCommerce Store”

Changes an existing customer record, such as the default shipping or billing address or the taxable setting.

When to use it
marking a customer as tax-exempt once your back office has validated their certificate.
Watch out
the Email Address is required to point at the right customer, so map it from a search or the trigger.
8

Update Inventory

Action

In Zapier“Updates inventory for a product or variant inventory item in your AmeriCommerce catalog.”

Sets the stock level of a product or of one of its variants in your AmeriCommerce catalog.

When to use it
a warehouse count done in another system that should land in the store as soon as it is saved.
Watch out
Quantity is required, and the Zap writes the number it receives, so make sure it is the real count.
9

Update Product

Action

In Zapier“Use this to make changes to a product in AmeriCommerce”

Edits a product that already exists, from hiding it to marking it non-discountable or non-shipping.

When to use it
hiding a listing automatically when your supplier stops making the item.
Watch out
the Item Number is required; if your other tool does not carry it, add Find Product first.
Searches

The 3 AmeriCommerce searches

3 search steps look for data that already exists in AmeriCommerce, so a later step can use it.

A search step looks up something that already exists so later steps can use it. In the editor, searches sit at the bottom of the Action event list, under SEARCH. Three settings decide what happens when the result is not clean.

1

Find Customer

Search

In Zapier“Finds a customer”

Looks up a customer by Email Address and hands their record to the following steps.

When to use it
before Update Customer, when the trigger comes from a tool that only knows the buyer's email.
Watch out
no email, no search; the field is required.
2

Find Order

Search

In Zapier“Find an Order from your AmeriCommerce store”

Pulls an order out of your store so later steps can read it or write to it.

When to use it
a support ticket mentions an order, and the Zap needs the order itself before changing its status.
Watch out
if nothing matches, the Zap stops unless you allow an empty result.
3

Find Product

Search

In Zapier“Find a product from your AmeriCommerce store”

Finds a product from its Item Number, the reference you already use in purchasing and stock files.

When to use it
just before Update Inventory, so the Zap targets the exact item your supplier file names.
Watch out
the Item Number is required and must match the one in the store.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left as it is, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap and skips the steps that relied on it. Switched on, the Zap goes on with empty hands.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into find-or-create. AmeriCommerce offers no such variant on Zapier, so you will not see it here.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Keep the first match (the default), stop the Zap, or send all matches on to the next steps at once.
When it breaks

When an AmeriCommerce Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to AmeriCommerce, so the traps below are the general Zapier ones, applied to a store.

Most surprises come from a Zap doing exactly what you told it, on data you did not expect. Read these four before you publish, and keep our Zapier troubleshooting guide nearby for the day one of them shows up.

  • Old orders never come through

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Orders, customers and products that already existed stay where they are; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps setting itself off

If a Zap started by Updated Product also runs Update Product, each change wakes it again. The task count drops fast; point the action somewhere else or add a filter.
  • A bulk import goes quiet

Import a large batch of products or customers at once and Zapier's flood protection can hold the trigger back instead of running hundreds of Zaps.
  • A search finds nothing

Find Customer, Find Order or Find Product with no match stops the Zap at that step by default. Allow an empty result if the next steps can live without it.

FAQ

AmeriCommerce Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the AmeriCommerce Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as your Zap has two steps. AmeriCommerce is not a premium app, so the free plan can use it, with 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is the step limit: the free plan builds one trigger and one action, nothing more. As soon as you add a filter, a search such as Find Customer, or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. For a store that wants a single alert on each valid order, free is enough. For anything that looks up a customer first, it is not.
02How many tasks does an AmeriCommerce Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that runs on New Valid Order and then calls Update Customer uses one task per order. Add Find Customer in front and a second action behind, and each order now counts every successful action on its own. An action that fails is not counted. Zapier checking for new data never costs anything either. A few apps and actions use more than one task when they complete, so read your task history after the first runs to see the real number.
03Do AmeriCommerce triggers run in real time?
Yes. All 10 AmeriCommerce triggers are instant: the store tells Zapier the moment an order, a quote, a customer or a product changes, and the Zap starts at once. The plan interval grid (15 minutes on Free, down to 1 minute on Team and Enterprise) only applies to polling triggers, and AmeriCommerce has none. In the editor, a Zap built on one of these triggers shows a lightning bolt. That makes the free plan surprisingly usable here: the delay is the same as on the most expensive plan.
04What does it take to connect AmeriCommerce to Zapier?
An AmeriCommerce account that can sign in, plus read or write access to anything the Zap should touch that you do not own yourself. The connection happens from the Apps page of your Zapier account: click + Add connection, search for AmeriCommerce, click Add connection, sign in in the tab that opens, then grant access. The connection is made once and reused by every Zap. If a teammate set up the store, make sure the account you use can edit orders and products, not just read them.
05Why does an AmeriCommerce Zap fire twice on the same order?
Usually because two triggers overlap or because the Zap writes back to the order. New Order and New Valid Order both fire on a valid order, so two Zaps built on them will both run. Order Updated fires on any edit, so a Zap that uses Change Order Status or Create or Update Order Payment on the same order can wake itself up again. Keep one trigger per job, and when a Zap must write to what its trigger watches, point the action elsewhere or add a filter that stops the pass its own write causes.
06What if the AmeriCommerce action you need does not exist?
Then the integration cannot do it, and it is better to know before you build. AmeriCommerce on Zapier offers 9 actions and 3 searches: create and update customers and products, update inventory, create or update orders, payments and shipments, and change an order status. There is nothing to delete a record and nothing to manage quotes from outside. If the step you need is missing, the honest options are doing that part by hand, or checking whether another automation tool covers it for this store.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for AmeriCommerce?
It depends on how you weigh three criteria, not on a winner. On Zapier, you pay per successful action and every AmeriCommerce trigger is instant, which keeps simple order flows cheap and fast. Look at how many steps your flows really need, since the free plan stops at two. Then check whether the operations you need exist on each tool for this store. Finally, think about who will maintain the Zaps: a team that wants menus over code usually settles quicker on the editor it already knows.
