Cutt.ly Team Zapier integrationAutomate Cutt.ly Team with Zapier.
The Cutt.ly Team Zapier integration gives you 8 actions, 0 triggers and 0 searches. It acts on your short links (create, tag, expire, track, delete) but never starts a Zap on its own, so another tool, a CMS or a form, always fires first.

What the Cutt.ly Team Zapier integration actually does
It lets Zapier work on your Cutt.ly Team links while you do something else. Zapier is the service that wires apps together; here it can shorten a URL, change where a link points, stamp UTM tags, set an expiry or pull click stats. What it cannot do is notice something happening inside Cutt.ly Team, because the app exposes no trigger.
Three results you can set up and forget. A short link for every new page: your CMS publishes, Shorten Url returns a clean link you can push to social posts. Campaign links that tag themselves: Change UTM and Change Tag label the link so your analytics and your link list stay tidy without anyone typing parameters. Links that retire on schedule: URL Expiration kills a promo link after a date or a number of clicks and sends late visitors elsewhere.
What Zapier does not do here: it cannot react to a click, a new link or a stats change in Cutt.ly Team. Every Zap has to start in another app (a form, a CMS, a spreadsheet, a calendar) and call Cutt.ly Team as an action. If you are weighing other tools, the Cutt.ly Team Make integration and the Make vs Zapier comparison are the next pages to read.
One more limit worth knowing early: two of the actions, Change Source URL and Unique Clicks, behave differently depending on your Cutt.ly subscription, not your Zapier plan.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words cover everything on this page. Each one is used below exactly as defined here.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Cutt.ly Team has none, so the trigger always comes from another tool.
- Action
- The step that does the work once the Zap has started: here, shortening, tagging, expiring or reading a Cutt.ly Team link.
- Task
- What Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of these.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer; an instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Cutt.ly Team account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to Cutt.ly Team.
What a Cutt.ly Team Zap really costs
Cutt.ly Team is not a premium app: it runs on Zapier's free plan.
- Free plan100 tasks a month
- Steps per Zap on Free2 (trigger + action)
- Premium appNo
- BilledEach successful action
The trigger from your other tool never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking for new data. You pay one task each time a Cutt.ly Team action succeeds; a failed action is not counted. Shorten then tag the same link and that is two tasks per run. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a second action or a filter and it becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. How often the starting trigger is checked depends on your plan, unless that trigger is instant.
Connect Cutt.ly Team to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need an existing Cutt.ly Team account before you start; Zapier does not create one for you.
- 02
Find Cutt.ly Team
Type Cutt.ly Team in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Cutt.ly Team side, where you sign in.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Log in to Cutt.ly Team in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. If the links you plan to edit belong to a teammate, make sure your account can read and change them.
Your first Zap: a tagged short link for every new post
GoalEvery post your CMS publishes gets a Cutt.ly Team short link, then a tag, so your link list sorts itself.
- 01
Build: pick the starting event
Create a Zap and choose your CMS with its new-post event. Cutt.ly Team has no trigger, so the Zap always starts in the tool where the URL is born.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so pick a real, recent post to map the fields from.
- 03
Add Shorten Url
Add Cutt.ly Team, choose Shorten Url and map the post's URL into the required Url field. Test it and check the short link in your Cutt.ly Team list.
- 04
Add Change Tag
Add a second Cutt.ly Team step, Change Tag, on the link you just created. This third step makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. Posts published before that moment are not picked up; only the new ones get a short link.
The 8 Cutt.ly Team actions
Cutt.ly Team gives you 8 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Delete
ActionIn Zapier“Delete your short URL”
Removes a short link from your Cutt.ly Team account. The single required field is the Short URL to delete.
URL Expiration
ActionIn Zapier“Toggle URL expiration for your short URL”
Sets a short link to expire after a date or after a number of clicks, and tells it where to send visitors once it has expired. Four fields are required: the link, the expiry type, the condition and the redirect URL.
Shorten Url
ActionIn Zapier“Put an url in this parameter to shorten it”
Turns a long address into a Cutt.ly Team short link. You give it one thing, the Url, and it hands back the shortened version for the next step to use.
Change Source URL
ActionIn Zapier“Change source URL of your short URL”
Points an existing short link at a new destination without changing the link people already have. You supply the short URL and the new Source URL.
Analytics
ActionIn Zapier“Get statistic information about your shortened URL”
Reads the statistics Cutt.ly Team holds on one shortened link and passes them to the following steps. You give it the link; it gives back its numbers.
Change Tag
ActionIn Zapier“Set tag for your short URL”
Puts a tag on an existing short link so you can sort and filter your Cutt.ly Team list later. The only required field is the link itself.
Unique Clicks
ActionIn Zapier“Toggle unique clicks for your short URL”
Switches unique-click counting on or off for a link, and on Team plans sets how long a visitor stays unique, from 15 to 1440 minutes. A value of 0 stops the counting.
Change UTM
ActionIn Zapier“Change UTM for your shortened URL”
Rewrites the UTM parameters behind a shortened link, so your analytics tool knows where each visit came from. It needs the short URL and a Campaign Source.
When a Cutt.ly Team Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article to Cutt.ly Team, so the cases below are the general Zapier limits plus the plan rules written in the fields themselves.
The trigger always lives in another app, so a stalled Zap can start there as well as in the Cutt.ly Team step. If you are stuck, our Zapier troubleshooting service picks it up.
Old URLs never get a short link
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Pages that existed before are not picked up; shortening the backlog is a separate job.The Zap keeps firing itself
If a step writes back into the place the trigger watches, for example the same sheet row, the Zap sets itself off again and burns tasks fast.A bulk import stalls the trigger
When the starting app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the run back.A field depends on your Cutt.ly plan
Change Source URL depends on your Cutt.ly plan, and Unique Clicks windows of 15 to 1440 minutes are for Team plans. Check what the connected account allows before you map the field.
