Overview

What the Dub Zapier integration does for you

The Dub Zapier integration connects your Dub account to Zapier. Events in Dub (a link created or clicked, a lead, a sale, a commission, a partner joining) start automations, and Zapier can manage links and tags in Dub or record leads and sales against your short links.

Three results worth building. A partner program that runs itself: New Partner Enrollment fires and Create Link hands the new partner a link to share. Conversions recorded where the click happened: Track Lead and Track Sale attach a sign-up or a payment from another tool to the click that brought it. A link library that stays tidy: Upsert Link returns the existing link for a URL instead of making a duplicate, and Create Tag adds a tag for each new campaign, so reporting by client or channel stays readable.

What Zapier does not do for Dub: there is no trigger for a new tag, nothing to delete a tag, and the only search looks up a single link. Partners, applications and commissions can start a Zap, but no action approves a partner or edits a commission. Tags can be created and renamed, never removed.

If you are weighing platforms, the Dub Make integration page covers the same app on Make, and the Make vs Zapier comparison sets out the criteria.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words you will meet on this page, each in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. With the Zap switched on, Zapier waits for exactly that event.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you inside an app.
Task
What Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is counted in tasks.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer; an instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. All of Dub's are instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Search step
A step that finds something that already exists in an app and passes it to the next steps. Dub has one: Retrieve Link.
Cost

What a Dub Zap really costs

Dub is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan. You pay in tasks, and only completed actions count.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps per Zap
  • Premium appNo, Dub runs on the free plan
  • Dub triggers9 instant, 0 polling

The trigger costs nothing, and neither does Zapier waiting for new events. Every action that succeeds is one task, counted on its own: a Zap that creates a link and then a tag uses two tasks per run. A failed action is not counted. The free plan's real limit is its size: two steps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter, a search or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below only governs polling triggers, so it never delays a Dub Zap. Watch Link Clicked, though: one run per click adds up fast on a busy link.

Connect

Connect your Dub account in three steps

  1. 01

    Go to the Apps page

In Zapier, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Dub account linked once, then reused by every step that talks to Dub.

You only do this once per Dub account.

  2. 02

    Pick Dub

Search for Dub in the dialog, select it from the list, then click Add connection. You need a Dub account you can sign in to, with the links you plan to automate.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to Dub in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. If the Zap will touch links you do not own, check first that your user can read or edit them.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a link and a tag for every new partner

GoalWhen a partner is enrolled in your Dub program, Zapier creates a short link to hand them and a tag named for them.

  1. 01

    Build: set the trigger

Start a Zap in the editor, choose Dub, then New Partner Enrollment as the event, and select the Dub connection you just added.

  2. 02

    Test with a real partner

Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent enrollments on your account, so you map fields on a real partner rather than on an empty sample.

  3. 03

    Add Create Link

Choose Dub and Create Link. Only URL is mandatory: point it at your partner landing page, and decide whether Public Stats should be on.

  4. 04

    Add Create Tag

Add a second action, Create Tag, and fill Name from a field of the enrollment the test brought back. This second action makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Test, then Publish

Test both actions, check the link and the tag in Dub, then click Publish. On the free plan, keep only Create Link and the Zap stays at two steps.

Triggers

Dub triggers on Zapier

9 events start a Zap when something happens in Dub, and 9 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Commission

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new commission is created.”

Starts your Zap whenever Dub records a commission, the amount a partner earns for a conversion they drove.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
your finance lead wants each commission logged in the tool where partner payouts get prepared.
Watch out
it fires on creation only. A commission that changes later will not start the Zap a second time.
2

New Lead

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new lead is created.”

Reacts each time Dub records a lead, meaning a sign-up or similar conversion credited to one of your short links.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a SaaS growth team wants each new trial credited to a campaign link to reach the sales inbox straight away.
Watch out
leads only exist in Dub if they are tracked, through Track Lead or another route, so test with a real conversion.
3

Link Clicked

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a link is clicked.”

Fires every time someone clicks one specific Dub link, the one you choose when you set the trigger up.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a podcast host wants a ping each time a listener opens the sponsor link read out in an episode.
Watch out
the Link field is mandatory, so one Zap watches one link, and each click is one run that can use a task.
4

New Link

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new link is created.”

Goes off whenever a short link is created in your Dub account, whoever or whatever created it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a content team wants every new campaign link reviewed, for example by switching its stats to public.
Watch out
never pair it with Create Link on the same account, or each new link creates another one in a loop.
5

Deleted Link

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a link is deleted.”

Runs your Zap when a short link is removed from Dub, so the places that still mention it can be warned.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a marketing manager wants to know at once if someone deletes a link that sits in a live ad.
Watch out
the link is already gone when the Zap runs, so a Retrieve Link step after it will find nothing.
6

Updated Link

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a link is updated.”

Picks up each change made to an existing Dub link, such as a new destination or a settings change.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
an agency wants a trace whenever a client's link changes destination, so each change leaves a record.
Watch out
a Zap that uses Update Link on the same account sets this trigger off again, and loops.
7

Partner Application Submitted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a partner submits an application to your program.”

Fires when a partner applies to join your program, before anyone has said yes.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
your partnerships manager wants each new application in the review queue they already work from.
Watch out
no Dub action approves or rejects the application, so the decision still happens inside Dub.
8

New Partner Enrollment

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new partner is enrolled in your program.”

Starts the Zap once a partner is enrolled in your program, the moment they can actually start promoting you.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
every newly enrolled affiliate should receive a ready-made link and a welcome from your team.
Watch out
it is a different event from the application; build on this one if the partner must be accepted first.
9

New Sale

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new sale is created.”

Triggers on every sale Dub records against one of your links, the last step of the funnel.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a founder wants each sale from a creator campaign announced to the team the moment it lands.
Watch out
sales only appear if they are tracked, so make sure Track Sale or your checkout sends them to Dub.
Actions

Dub actions on Zapier

Dub gives you 8 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

2

Create Tag

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new tag.”

Adds a tag to your Dub account so links can be grouped by campaign, client or partner.

When to use it
a new campaign starts and its links need a label before anyone creates them.
Watch out
only the name is required, so check the spelling; two close names make two tags.
4

Track Lead

Action

In Zapier“Track a lead for a short link.”

Records a lead in Dub and credits it to the click that brought the visitor, so your link stats show conversions, not just clicks.

When to use it
a form or sign-up tool knows a person registered and Dub should count it.
Watch out
it requires a Click ID, an External ID for the customer and an event name.
5

Track Sale

Action

In Zapier“Track a sale for a short link.”

Records a sale in Dub for a customer already known through an earlier lead, so revenue shows up next to the link.

When to use it
your billing tool confirms a payment and the campaign that earned it should get credit.
Watch out
the Amount is in cents, so convert a price in dollars or euros before you map it.
7

Update Tag

Action

In Zapier“Updates an existing tag.”

Renames a tag that already exists in Dub, found by its Tag ID.

When to use it
a client rebrands and its tag should follow the new name.
Watch out
both the Tag ID and the new Name are mandatory, and no Dub search finds a tag for you.
Searches

The Dub search on Zapier

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Dub, so a later step can use it.

A search step finds a Dub link that already exists so later steps can use it. Dub has a single one, and no find-or-create variant.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there and the dependent steps are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on without the link.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
On apps that offer it, this box turns the search into a find-or-create. Retrieve Link has no such variant on Dub, so it does not apply here.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one, which is the default, stop the Zap, or pass all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a Dub Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Dub and lists no rate limit for it, so the traps come from the way Zaps behave in general.

Four cases cover what you are likely to meet. None is unique to Dub, and all four are avoidable. If a Zap still misbehaves, our Zapier troubleshooting guide is the next step.

  • New Link plus Create Link loops

A Zap that writes where its own trigger watches sets itself off again. New Link with Create Link, or Updated Link with Update Link, burns tasks fast.
  • Past clicks and sales never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Clicks, leads and sales recorded before that stay out; moving them is a separate job.
  • A bulk import gets held back

Creating hundreds of links at once sends a huge batch to New Link. Zapier's flood protection may hold those runs back.
  • The second step never runs

The free plan stops at one trigger and one action. A filter, Retrieve Link or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

FAQ

Dub and Zapier: common questions

01Is the Dub Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free Zapier plan because Dub is not a premium app. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that adds a filter, the Retrieve Link search or a second action becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. Keep that in mind before planning a link-plus-tag flow like the one on this page.
02How many tasks does a Dub Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds; the trigger itself is free. A Zap that turns each New Partner Enrollment into a link uses one task per partner. With a link and a tag, it uses two per run. A failed action is not counted. Be careful with Link Clicked: every click on the watched link starts a run, so a popular link can use up the 100 tasks of the free plan quickly.
03Do Dub triggers work in real time?
Yes, all nine Dub triggers are instant. Dub tells Zapier the moment a link, click, lead, sale, commission or partner event happens, and the Zap starts right away whatever your plan. The polling grid, 15 minutes on Free and 2 on Professional, does not apply. In the editor, a Zap built on one of these triggers shows a lightning bolt, which confirms it at a glance. Nothing to configure on your side.
04What does it take to connect Dub to Zapier?
A Dub account you can sign in to, plus read or write rights on any links you do not own and want the Zap to touch. You connect it once from the Apps page of Zapier with + Add connection, and every Dub step then reuses that connection. For Track Lead and Track Sale, also make sure your own tools capture the click ID and a stable customer ID, because both actions depend on them.
05Why are Dub sale amounts wrong after Track Sale?
Check the unit first. Track Sale expects the Amount in cents. If your billing tool sends the price in whole units, Dub records a sale a hundred times smaller than the real one, and your revenue per link looks tiny. The action also requires the External ID of the customer and the payment processor used, so check those three fields together during the test before publishing. One test sale settles it.
06What if the Dub operation you need does not exist on Zapier?
Then the Zapier app cannot do it in its current form. The integration offers 9 triggers, 8 actions and 1 search; there is, for example, no action to approve a partner, delete a tag or edit a commission. Compare the list on this page with the job you have in mind before you build. If the gap blocks you, look at how other automation platforms handle Dub before deciding. Note the missing piece precisely first.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Dub?
It depends on your criteria, not on a single winner. On Zapier, Dub runs on the free plan with two-step Zaps, and every trigger is instant, which suits simple flows such as one link per new partner. If you need long flows with searches and several actions, or an operation this list lacks, such as approving a partner, compare what each platform offers for Dub and weigh the cost of multi-step Zaps on Zapier's paid plans.
