Liner Zapier integrationAutomate Liner with Zapier.

The Liner Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 5 actions and 0 searches. Liner never starts a Zap on its own: another app does, then Liner answers a question with sources, runs a deeper research job or searches the web and academic papers for you.

Overview

What the Liner Zapier integration does for you

Liner is a search engine run by AI: it reads the web or scholarly sources and hands back an answer with its citations. Through Zapier, a question typed somewhere else can reach Liner without anyone copying and pasting it. The page of Liner on Zapier lists five actions and nothing else, and the app works on the free plan.

A sourced answer to every incoming question. A question lands in a form, and Run Quick Answer Agent returns a short factual reply backed by sources, ready to be sent on by the next step.

A research brief with citations. For a broader question, Run Deep Research Agent works through several steps and comes back with a report whose claims point to their sources.

A list of papers or pages, not an essay. Search Scholar returns academic results with their citation details, and Search Web returns public pages with title, snippet, URL, host and date.

What Zapier cannot do with Liner: start anything. There is no Liner trigger, so every Zap begins in another app, and there is no search step to look up a past answer either. So no later Zap can pick a result up again unless a step in the same run stores it somewhere. If you are still choosing a platform for this kind of workflow, see our n8n vs Zapier comparison.

Vocabulary

Zapier words you will meet on this page

Seven terms, each in plain words. Once explained, they are used as is.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Liner has none, so with Liner the trigger always comes from another app.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started. All five Liner operations are actions: they take a question and return results.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is counted in tasks.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is pushed by its app the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Connection
Your Liner account linked to Zapier once, then offered to every Liner step in every Zap you build.
Cost

What a Liner Zap really costs

Zapier bills tasks, and only successful actions create them. With Liner, that means every answer or search that comes back.

  • Premium appNo, Liner runs on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Liner triggersNone, start from another app
  • Failed actionNot billed

The trigger of the other app is free, however often Zapier checks it. Each Liner action that succeeds counts one task, and so does each later step: a form, a quick answer and an email reply cost two tasks per run. A failed action is not charged. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only, which is enough for a trigger plus one Liner action. The grid below applies to the trigger app when its trigger is a polling one; an instant trigger ignores it.

Connect

Connect Liner to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. You need a Liner account first; anything you want the Zap to reach that you do not own also needs your access.

  2. 02

    Pick Liner

Type Liner in the search box of the dialog and select it from the results. Then click Add connection; a new browser tab opens on the Liner sign-in screen, ready for your login.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log into Liner in that tab and allow Zapier to use the account. The connection is saved once, and each Liner step you add later offers it in its account menu.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a sourced answer to every form question

GoalEach time someone asks a factual question through your form, Liner writes a short answer backed by sources, and your team chat receives it.

  1. 01

    Pick the starting event

Create a Zap and choose your form tool with its new submission event as the trigger, since Liner has none. Test it: Zapier brings back the three most recent entries so you map from a real one.

  2. 02

    Add Run Quick Answer Agent

Add a Liner step and pick Run Quick Answer Agent. Map the question field of the form into Question. That is the only field the action insists on.

  3. 03

    Post the answer

Add a step in your team chat that sends the answer Liner returned. This third step makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan; on the free plan, stop after Liner.

  4. 04

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and read the answer that came back, sources included. When it looks right, publish the Zap to switch it on. Only questions sent after that moment will start it.

Actions

Liner actions

Liner gives you 5 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Run Deep Research Agent

Action

In Zapier“Runs Liner Deep Research Agent for multi-step source-backed research with citations.”

Hands a research question to Liner's deepest agent, which works in several steps and returns findings backed by citations.

When to use it
a request needs a researched brief rather than a quick reply.
Watch out
no Liner search can fetch it later; add a step that stores or sends it.
2

Run Quick Answer Agent

Action

In Zapier“Runs Liner Quick Answer Agent for a short source-backed factual answer.”

Sends one factual question to Liner and gets back a brief answer with the sources behind it. You only fill in Question.

When to use it
a question arrives through a form and a few sourced lines are enough to reply.
Watch out
it is built for short factual replies; an open-ended question belongs to one of the two other agents.
3

Run Search Agent

Action

In Zapier“Runs Liner Search Agent to synthesize a source-backed answer with citations.”

Puts together a fuller answer from several sources, each one cited, from a question or a research prompt typed in Question.

When to use it
the topic needs more than one fact, but not a full report.
Watch out
word the prompt as a question to answer, not as a list of keywords; for keywords, Search Web is the better fit.
4

Search Scholar

Action

In Zapier“Searches scholarly sources with Liner and returns academic results with citation metadata.”

Queries scholarly sources through Liner and brings back academic results along with their citation details. Query holds the search terms.

When to use it
a literature list on a topic should be built and stored without manual searching.
Watch out
it only covers academic sources; for news or company pages, use Search Web.
5

Search Web

Action

In Zapier“Searches the public web with Liner and returns structured results with titles, snippets, URLs, hosts, and dates.”

Runs a web search through Liner from the text in Query and returns structured results: title, snippet, URL, host and date for each page.

When to use it
you want raw pages to sort yourself, not a written answer.
Watch out
it returns results, not a summary; to get prose, pick one of the agents.
When it breaks

When a Liner Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Liner, and no app-specific limit is documented. What breaks comes from how Zapier itself works, mostly around the trigger app.

  • Older questions are never answered

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Questions that were already in your form or sheet stay out, and processing them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that answers itself forever

If the Zap writes Liner's answer into the very sheet its trigger watches, each new row sets it off again, and the task count drains fast.
  • A sudden flood is held back

When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import for example, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
  • The same question is not sent twice

On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so an entry it handled once does not reach Liner a second time.

FAQ

Liner Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Liner Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as the Zap has two steps. Liner is not a premium app, so it runs on Zapier's free plan, which gives you 100 tasks a month and Zaps made of one trigger and one action. A form trigger followed by Run Quick Answer Agent fits inside that. As soon as you add a step to send the answer on, a filter or a second Liner action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Liner Zap use?
One per action that succeeds. The trigger in the other app costs nothing, and neither do Zapier's checks for new data. Each Liner action that returns a result counts one task, so a Zap that runs Search Web and then sends the results by email uses two per run. Running two agents on the same question doubles the Liner share. An action that fails is not counted against your plan, so a broken step does not eat into your monthly allowance.
03Does Liner trigger Zaps in real time?
Liner does not trigger Zaps at all: it has no trigger. A Liner Zap starts in another app, and its speed depends on that app's trigger. If that trigger is instant, the app reports the event right away and Liner is called at once. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks at an interval set by your plan: every 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional and 1 on Team or Enterprise. Picking an app with an instant trigger is the way to fast answers.
04What does it take to connect Liner to Zapier?
A Liner account, plus access to anything you do not own but want the Zap to touch. In Zapier, open the Apps page, click + Add connection, search for Liner, click Add connection, then sign in through the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. The connection is saved once and offered to every Liner step afterwards, so there is nothing to set up again when you build your next Zap with Liner.
05Which Liner action should a question go to?
It depends on the kind of reply expected. Run Quick Answer Agent is meant for a short factual answer with sources. Run Search Agent writes a fuller synthesis with citations. Run Deep Research Agent works in several steps and returns a researched report. Search Web and Search Scholar do not write anything: they return lists of results, public pages for the first and academic sources with citation details for the second. The three agents read a Question; the two searches read a Query.
06What if the Liner operation you need is not listed?
Then the Zap cannot do it with Liner as things stand. Zapier offers five Liner operations, all of them actions: Run Deep Research Agent, Run Quick Answer Agent, Run Search Agent, Search Scholar and Search Web. There is no trigger to start a Zap from Liner and no search step to look up an answer given earlier. Check the Liner page on Zapier before planning around a missing piece, rather than counting on it appearing.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Liner?
It depends on your criteria, not on a single winner. First check whether Liner is available on the other platform at all, since this page only covers Zapier. Then compare billing: Zapier counts every successful action as a task, and its free plan stops at two-step Zaps. Last, weigh what happens to the answers, because storing or sending each Liner result adds a step, and on Zapier that extra step means a paid, multi-step Zap.
