Overview

What the LinkedIn Ads Zapier integration does with your leads

The LinkedIn Ads Zapier integration connects your LinkedIn Ads account to the rest of your tools through Zapier, without code. Someone fills in a Lead Gen Form on LinkedIn, and Zapier hands their answers to another app at once. In the other direction, Zapier can feed and trim your LinkedIn audiences from what happens elsewhere.

Three results justify setting it up. First, leads that land where your sales team works: New Lead Gen Form Response (Sponsored content) sends each answer from an ad form into your CRM, with nobody exporting a file. Second, audiences that follow your customer list: Add Contact to Audience and Add Company to Audience push people and accounts into a LinkedIn audience as they appear in another tool, and Remove Email from Audience takes someone out when they should stop seeing an ad. Third, reports on demand: Create Report produces a report from a start date you pass in, so another step can file it.

Now the limits. There is no search at all: a Zap cannot look up a campaign, a form or an audience before acting. No trigger fires on ad spend, campaign changes or anything other than form responses. And there is no action to edit or pause a campaign. The one escape hatch is API Request (Beta), and it is meant for people comfortable with raw HTTP.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight terms carry the whole page. Each one is explained here once, then used as is.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for that event, here a new form response.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, in LinkedIn or elsewhere.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is a count of those.
Instant vs polling
An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer instead.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Premium app
An app Zapier keeps for paid plans and free trials. LinkedIn Ads is one, so the free plan cannot use it.
Connection
Your LinkedIn account linked to Zapier one time, then reused by every LinkedIn Ads step in every Zap you build.
Cost

What a LinkedIn Ads Zap really costs

LinkedIn Ads is a premium app: it needs a paid Zapier plan, or the free trial. The free plan, with its 100 tasks a month, cannot run it at all.

  • Premium appYes, paid plan or free trial
  • Trigger costFree, whatever the volume
  • BilledEach successful action, one task
  • Trigger typeInstant, both of them

On a paid plan, the bill is counted in tasks. A form response that starts the Zap costs nothing; each action that succeeds afterwards costs one task. A Zap that creates a CRM contact and also adds that person to an audience uses two tasks per lead. An action that fails is not counted. The interval grid below is for polling triggers only: both LinkedIn Ads triggers are instant, so it never applies to them. A few apps and actions take more than one task when they complete.

Connect

Connect your LinkedIn Ads account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. You need a LinkedIn account, plus read or write access to the pages and ad accounts you do not own and want a Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick LinkedIn Ads

Search LinkedIn Ads by name in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on LinkedIn, where the sign-in itself takes place. Nothing is shared with Zapier until you approve it there.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to LinkedIn in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is stored once, then offered in a list by every LinkedIn Ads step you add later.

First Zap

Your first Zap: send ad leads to your CRM

GoalEach person who answers the Lead Gen Form of one of your ads becomes a contact in your CRM, with the answers already filled in.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap in Zapier. It is built top to bottom: the app and event that start it first, then each action in the order it should run.

  2. 02

    Set the trigger

Pick LinkedIn Ads and the event New Lead Gen Form Response (Sponsored content), then choose the connection and the ad account. Only ad accounts you can access show up there.

  3. 03

    Test with a real response

Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent responses so you map fields on a real lead rather than guessing what the form sends.

  4. 04

    Add the CRM action

Add your CRM with an action that creates a contact, then map the name, email and other answers from the form into its fields. Test the step and read what came back.

  5. 05

    Add the audience step

Add Add Contact to Audience to put the same person in a LinkedIn audience. This second action makes the Zap multi-step, which your paid plan already covers.

  6. 06

    Publish

Publish the Zap to switch it on. Responses received before that moment are not picked up; only new ones start the Zap from now on.

Triggers

LinkedIn Ads triggers: what can start a Zap

2 events start a Zap when something happens in LinkedIn Ads, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Lead Gen Form Response (Organic Content)

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when you receive a new form response tied to a Company Page, Product Page, or Event.”

Starts the Zap when someone answers a Lead Gen Form attached to your Company Page, a Product Page or an Event, with no ad involved. It carries the answers to the next steps so they can be stored or acted on.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you collect sign-ups for a LinkedIn Event and want each registrant listed in a shared sheet without exporting anything.
Watch out
only Pages where you are a Company Page Administrator appear in the Organization field, and the Lead Type has to be picked too.
2

New Lead Gen Form Response (Sponsored content)

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when you receive a new form response for an ad.”

Fires on each response to a Lead Gen Form that runs inside one of your ads. This is the trigger for paid campaigns: whatever the person typed in the form is handed to the rest of the Zap.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
sales should see each ad lead in the CRM while the person still remembers clicking.
Watch out
fetching creative and campaign details is on by default; if the trigger throws errors and you do not need those details, turning them off is the documented way out.
Actions

LinkedIn Ads actions: what a Zap can do in your account

LinkedIn Ads gives you 6 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add Company to Audience

Action

In Zapier“Adds a Company to an Audience.”

Puts an organization into one of your LinkedIn audiences, so your ads can target it.

When to use it
an account reaches a given stage in your CRM and should start seeing your campaigns.
Watch out
the audience has to hold companies, not contacts; an audience is created for one type or the other.
2

Add Contact to Audience

Action

In Zapier“Adds a Contact to an Audience.”

Adds a person to a LinkedIn audience, ready for a campaign that targets that list.

When to use it
someone who just filled in a form should see your follow-up ads rather than the first one again.
Watch out
it needs an audience built for contacts; one meant for companies will not take a person.
3

Create Audience

Action

In Zapier“Creates an Audience that you can add Contacts or Companies to.”

Opens a new audience in LinkedIn that later steps can fill. The required Audience Type decides once and for all whether it will hold contacts or companies.

When to use it
each new campaign launched from another tool needs its own fresh list.
Watch out
picking the wrong type blocks the add actions that follow.
4

Remove Email from Audience

Action

In Zapier“Removes an email address from an Audience.”

Takes an email address out of an audience. The Email Address field is required.

When to use it
a prospect becomes a customer, or unsubscribes, and should stop seeing the ads aimed at prospects.
Watch out
it works by email only, so map a field that really carries one.
5

Create Report

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new report.”

Generates a new LinkedIn Ads report for the date range you provide, starting from a required Start Date.

When to use it
a report should be produced and then filed or shared by the next step of the Zap.
Watch out
without a Start Date mapped or typed in, the action has no range to work on.
6

API Request (Beta)

Action

In Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”

The advanced option: a raw HTTP request sent with your LinkedIn connection already attached. You set the HTTP Method, the URL and whether the step stops on error.

When to use it
what you need is not among the five ready-made actions.
Watch out
requests can only go to domains tied to this app, and it is still in beta.
When it breaks

When a LinkedIn Ads Zap breaks

Zapier attaches several help articles to LinkedIn Ads. Their titles alone say where the trouble usually comes from.

The six cases below mix those help articles with the limits that apply to any Zap. When the cause is still unclear, Zapier troubleshooting is the next stop.

  • Leads stop, yet the Zap is on

Zapier has a help article for the case where the Zap is on but no leads come in. It is the first thing to open when responses stop flowing.
  • No test data comes back

A dedicated help article covers the case where a LinkedIn Ads trigger test brings back no data. Read it before you rebuild the trigger from scratch.
  • Fields arrive empty

"LinkedIn Ads: fields no longer receive values" is a known case with its own help article, worth checking before you rebuild the mapping.
  • An action required notice

Zapier publishes "Action required for LinkedIn Ads users". If your Zaps misbehave, check that article on the Zapier help center.
  • Past responses are not picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is published. Leads collected before stay where they are; moving them is a separate job.
  • A sudden flood is held back

When a trigger returns a huge batch at once, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back.

FAQ

LinkedIn Ads Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the LinkedIn Ads Zapier integration free?
No. LinkedIn Ads is a premium app on Zapier, so it needs a paid plan or the free trial. The free plan, with its 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps, does not include premium apps at all. Once you are on a paid plan, the Zap itself is billed in tasks like any other. No price is given here, because Zapier's plan grids change too often to be quoted reliably on a page like this one.
02How many tasks does a LinkedIn Ads Zap use?
One task per action that completes successfully. The form response that starts the Zap is free, however many leads come in. A Zap that sends each ad lead to your CRM uses one task per lead; if it also adds the person to an audience, that is two. An action that fails is not counted. Keep this in mind when a campaign suddenly brings in a lot of responses, since every one of them runs the whole Zap.
03Are LinkedIn Ads leads sent to Zapier in real time?
Yes. Both LinkedIn Ads triggers are instant: LinkedIn tells Zapier as soon as a form response comes in, and the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The polling interval that slows other apps does not apply here. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. This is decided by the app itself, so it cannot be switched to anything else from Zapier. That is the main reason a lead can reach your CRM while the person is still on LinkedIn.
04What do you need to connect LinkedIn Ads to Zapier?
A LinkedIn account, a paid Zapier plan or the free trial, and the right access on LinkedIn. For organic forms, you must be a Company Page Administrator of the Page, or it will not appear. For ad forms, you need access to the ad account. The connection itself is made from the Apps page with + Add connection: search LinkedIn Ads, sign in in the tab that opens, and grant access.
05Why does the LinkedIn Ads trigger fail on creative or campaign details?
Both triggers fetch creative and campaign details for each response by default. When those lookups cause errors and you do not need that data, the trigger settings say to switch off Retrieve Creative Details or Retrieve Campaign Details. The form answers still come through. If leads stop altogether, Zapier's help article on not receiving leads while the Zap is on is the next place to look. Turn the details back on later if a step comes to need them.
06What if the LinkedIn Ads operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then API Request (Beta) is the only way in through this integration. It sends a raw HTTP request with your LinkedIn connection already attached, but only to domains tied to this app, and you have to know the request to send. Otherwise, the ready-made list is short: two form triggers, audience actions and reports. There is no search, and nothing that edits or pauses a campaign. Before reaching for it, check that the five ready-made actions really cannot cover the job.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for LinkedIn Ads?
It depends on your criteria, not on a ranking. Zapier's strong point here is the two instant lead triggers, ready to use without code. The trade-off is that LinkedIn Ads is a premium app, so the free plan is out, and each action is billed per task. If you need operations beyond lead forms, audiences and reports, check what each platform offers for LinkedIn before you build. Weigh the instant triggers against the paid plan they require.
