Main Campaign Zapier integrationAutomate Main Campaign with Zapier.

The Main Campaign Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 1 action and 1 search. It cannot start a Zap on its own, but it can find a lead and update it from what your CRM knows. Here is how that works, what it costs and where it trips.

Overview

What the Main Campaign Zapier integration does, and what it does not

Main Campaign ties the revenue recorded in your CRM back to the ads that brought it. Connecting it to Zapier lets another app keep its leads up to date: when something changes on the CRM side, a Zap finds the matching lead in Main Campaign and writes the new details, so nobody has to copy record IDs by hand.

Leads tied to the right CRM record. Update Lead writes the CRM record ID, the business and the email onto a lead that already exists. That link is what lets Main Campaign match revenue in the CRM to the ad behind it.

A check before every write. Find Lead looks up a lead inside a given business and hands it to the next step. You only update what you have actually found, instead of guessing.

Conversions on your own terms. Update Lead carries an optional conversion field, meant for teams who count a conversion at another moment than when revenue comes in. Most people leave it blank, and that is the safe default.

What Zapier does not do here: Main Campaign has no trigger, so it can never start a Zap; another app always goes first. There is no action to create a lead either, nor one to delete it. If you want to weigh the platforms before you build this kind of workflow, see our Make vs Zapier comparison.

Vocabulary

The Zapier words you will meet on this page

Seven terms come back on every Zapier page. Here they are in ordinary words.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts your Zap. Main Campaign has none, so the trigger always comes from another app.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something in an app for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One action your Zap completes successfully is one task, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
Polling: Zapier checks an app on a timer for new items. Instant: the app reports the event the moment it happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived matches the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, so the steps after it can use what it found.
Connection
Your Main Campaign account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that talks to it.
Cost

What Main Campaign really costs in Zapier

Main Campaign is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. The bill is counted in tasks, and only finished actions count.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two-step Zaps only
  • Premium appNo, Main Campaign runs on the free plan
  • BilledEach successful Update Lead; searches add a step

The trigger never costs a task, and neither do Zapier's checks for new data. Each Update Lead that succeeds counts once; one that fails is not billed. The free plan builds two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Put Find Lead or a filter in front of the update and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Main Campaign has no trigger of its own, so the interval grid below only matters for the other app's trigger, when that one polls.

Connect

Connect your Main Campaign account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Main Campaign account, plus access to any business you do not own yourself but want the Zap to update.

  2. 02

    Pick Main Campaign

Type Main Campaign in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Main Campaign side, where the rest happens.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to Main Campaign in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection is saved once, and every later Zap that uses Main Campaign picks it from a menu.

First Zap

Your first Main Campaign Zap, step by step

GoalWhen a record changes in your CRM, find the matching lead in Main Campaign and write the CRM record ID onto it.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick your CRM as the app that starts it, with the event that fires when a record changes. Main Campaign cannot be this first step.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent records from the CRM account, so you map the next steps on a real one.

  3. 03

    Add Find Lead

Add Main Campaign, choose Find Lead under the search heading, pick the business and map the value to search on from the CRM record. This makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add Update Lead

Add Main Campaign again with Update Lead. Fill the business name, the CRM record ID and the lead email from the earlier steps; leave the conversion field empty unless you have a reason.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step once and check the lead inside Main Campaign. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on; it only reacts to CRM changes from now on.

Actions

Main Campaign action: what a Zap can do there

Main Campaign gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Update Lead

Action

In Zapier“Updates an existing Lead in Main Campaign.”

Rewrites a lead that already sits in Main Campaign, attaching it to its business, its CRM record ID and its email. That is the link Main Campaign uses to match revenue to ads.

When to use it
a record in your CRM gets its ID or a new email, and the lead in Main Campaign should follow.
Watch out
three fields are mandatory, and the optional conversion field is best left blank unless a conversion means something other than revenue for you.
Searches

The Main Campaign search

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Main Campaign, so a later step can use it.

A search step looks something up before the next steps run. Main Campaign has one, and three settings decide what happens when the lookup goes differently than planned.

1

Find Lead

Search

In Zapier“Finds a Lead. May return multiple Leads if searching by a non-unique value.”

Looks up a lead inside the business you name, which is the one mandatory field, and hands it to the next step.

When to use it
right before Update Lead, so the update lands on a lead you know exists.
Watch out
search on a value that is not unique and you may get several leads back; set the multiple-results option on purpose.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds no lead stops the Zap there and Update Lead is skipped. Switch it on and the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into a find-or-create. Main Campaign does not offer that variant, so you will not see it on Find Lead.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several leads match: keep the first one (the default), stop the Zap, or pass all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a Main Campaign Zap breaks

Zapier lists no help article and no app-specific limit for Main Campaign. What goes wrong comes from how Zapier itself works.

Four situations account for most surprises. None of them throws a dramatic error; they show up as leads that never change or a task count that climbs too fast. If one of them has you stuck, the Zapier troubleshooting page is the place to start.

  • Old CRM changes are never replayed

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Records that changed before that moment stay as they are in Main Campaign; catching up is a separate job.
  • A loop between the CRM and the Zap

If your trigger watches CRM records and a later step writes back into that same CRM, each write sets the Zap off again and burns through tasks.
  • A big batch is held back

After a bulk import or a migration in the CRM, the trigger can return a huge batch at once. Zapier's flood protection may hold it back instead of running every item.
  • The same record does not run twice

When the CRM trigger polls, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so a record that comes back unchanged does not start the Zap a second time.

FAQ

Main Campaign and Zapier: questions people ask

01Is the Main Campaign Zapier integration free?
Yes, as far as Zapier goes: Main Campaign is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps. A CRM trigger followed by Update Lead fits inside that. Add Find Lead or a filter before the update and you need a paid plan. Your Main Campaign subscription is a separate matter, and this page does not cover its price.
02How many tasks does a Main Campaign Zap use?
One task each time Update Lead succeeds, and nothing for the trigger, which comes from another app. Zapier's checks for new data never cost anything. A Zap with Find Lead then Update Lead is multi-step, so it needs a paid plan; the update is what you are billed for on each run, and an update that fails is not counted. Keep an eye on how many CRM changes the trigger will catch, since each one can mean an update.
03Does Main Campaign work in real time with Zapier?
Main Campaign itself has no trigger, so it never starts a Zap and the question moves to the app that does. If your CRM's trigger is instant, the Zap runs as soon as the CRM reports the change. If it polls, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on the free plan, every 2 on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. Look for the lightning bolt in the editor to know which kind you picked.
04What do you need to connect Main Campaign to Zapier?
A Main Campaign account, and access to any business you do not own but want the Zap to update. In Zapier you open Apps, click + Add connection, pick Main Campaign, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. The connection is saved once and reused by every Zap. Before you build, make sure the business you will target already exists in Main Campaign, since both operations ask for it.
05Why does Update Lead not create a new lead?
Because it only updates a lead that already exists in Main Campaign. There is no action on Zapier to create one, so a CRM record with no matching lead has nothing to land on. That is why Find Lead belongs in front of it: when nothing is found, the default setting stops the Zap cleanly instead of sending an update into the void. Check in Main Campaign how leads get created on your account before relying on the Zap.
06What if the Main Campaign operation you need is not in Zapier?
Then Zapier cannot do it for this app. The integration offers Update Lead and Find Lead, and nothing more: no trigger, no lead creation, no deletion. Check first whether a search followed by an update covers the need, since that pair handles most syncing jobs. If the operation is truly missing, the work stays inside Main Campaign, or you look at another automation platform for that part of the process.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Main Campaign?
Decide on criteria, not on a ranking. On Zapier, Main Campaign brings two ready-made operations and works from the free plan, which suits a simple CRM-to-lead update. Count how many updates each run will make, since Zapier bills each action. Check whether your trigger app offers an instant trigger, as it sets the pace. Then confirm the other platform has a ready-made Main Campaign connector at all before comparing price models.
