Overview

What the Mallabe Barcodes Zapier integration does

The Mallabe Barcodes Zapier integration lets a Zap create QR codes and barcodes, or decode them, without anyone opening a generator. Zapier is the service that links your apps: it waits for an event in one, then runs steps in others. Mallabe Barcodes only ever plays the second part.

Three typical results. A QR code for each new entry: Generate QR Code takes a link or a line of text and returns the code at the size you pick. A product-style barcode: Generate Barcode builds UPC, EAN and other formats from the same kind of message. A code read back into text: Scan QR Code / Barcode looks at a picture of a code and hands what it contains to the next step.

What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. Mallabe Barcodes has no trigger, so it cannot start a Zap: something in another app has to happen first. There is no search, so a Zap cannot find a code you generated earlier. And scanning works from a link to the image, which must open for anyone; a picture behind a login will not be read, even if the connection itself works. Check where your pictures live before you build the Zap.

The same app also has a Mallabe Barcodes Make integration page. To weigh the two platforms on their own criteria, see Make vs Zapier.

Vocabulary

Zapier words used on this page

Seven terms, defined once in everyday English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Mallabe Barcodes has none, so the trigger always comes from another app.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that creates, sends or reads something for you. Mallabe Barcodes has three.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. Every code generated or scanned is one.
Polling vs instant
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer; an instant trigger is reported by its app straight away. Which one you get depends on the starting app.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What Mallabe Barcodes costs in tasks

Each code generated or scanned is one task, as long as the action succeeds.

  • Free plan100 tasks per month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, it works on the free plan
  • One code generated or scannedOne task when it succeeds

The trigger of the starting app never uses a task. Every Mallabe Barcodes action that works counts as one; one that fails is not counted. Generate a QR code and then send it somewhere: two actions, two tasks per run. Mallabe Barcodes is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, in Zaps of two steps. Since the code usually has to go somewhere after it is made, plan for a paid plan. How fast the Zap starts depends on the trigger of the other app: the grid below applies when that trigger is a polling one.

Connect

Connect Mallabe Barcodes to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Mallabe account linked once to Zapier, then reused by every Zap that makes or reads codes.

  2. 02

    Choose Mallabe Barcodes

Search for Mallabe Barcodes in the dialog, pick it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Mallabe side, where you sign in rather than inside Zapier.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log into your Mallabe account in that tab and allow Zapier to use it. You need an account on the app, plus access to any file you do not own and want a Zap to read.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a QR code for every new row

GoalEach new row of your spreadsheet gets a QR code built from its link, and the code is sent by email.

  1. 01

Create the Zap with your spreadsheet trigger

Start a new Zap and pick the new-row event of your spreadsheet tool. Mallabe Barcodes has no trigger, so the Zap always starts in another app.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account. Choose a real row that holds the link you want to encode.

  3. 03

    Add Generate QR Code

Add an action, choose Mallabe Barcodes and Generate QR Code. Map the link into Message and pick a Size; both fields are required. Test the step and look at the code.

  4. 04

    Send the code

Add the send step of your email tool and place the QR code from the previous step in it. With three steps, this Zap needs a paid plan to be published.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish. Each new row then costs two tasks: one for the QR code, one for the email, provided both actions go through.

Actions

The three Mallabe Barcodes actions

Mallabe Barcodes gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Generate Barcode

Action

In Zapier“Generate a barcode of different types, such as UPC, EAN, and more..”

Builds a classic barcode from a message and hands it to the next step. You choose the format in Barcode Type, UPC, EAN and others, and it defaults to UPC-A.

When to use it
you need a linear barcode rather than a square QR code.
Watch out
Barcode Type and Message are both required, so check that a value reaches each one before testing.
2

Generate QR Code

Action

In Zapier“Generate a QR code (quick-response code)”

Turns a message, a link or plain text, into a QR code and passes it on to the next step. Message and Size are both required; the size defaults to Large.

When to use it
each new entry in another tool needs its own scannable code, for example a link to share.
Watch out
the code holds exactly what you map into Message, so check that field before publishing.
3

Scan QR Code / Barcode

Action

In Zapier“Scan a QR code / barcode”

Reads a QR code or barcode from a picture and hands its content to the following steps as text. Barcode Type defaults to QR Code, and Barcode Image URL tells it which picture to read.

When to use it
codes arrive as images and you want what they contain in a sheet or a message.
Watch out
the image link must be public, or the scan fails.
When it breaks

When a Mallabe Barcodes Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Mallabe Barcodes. The cases below come from the app's own field notes and from Zapier's general rules.

Most problems are about the starting app or the picture link, rarely about the codes themselves. Run through these before publishing. If a Zap still misbehaves, see Zapier troubleshooting.

  • The image to scan is not public

Scan QR Code / Barcode reads the picture from its link. A link that needs a login cannot be opened, and the scan fails.
  • Earlier entries are not processed

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Rows or files that existed before get no code; handling them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

If the Zap writes the code back into the place its own trigger watches, it starts again and again and burns through your tasks.
  • Generate then send needs a paid plan

A code that is generated and then sent elsewhere makes a three-step Zap. The free plan only publishes two steps.

FAQ

Mallabe Barcodes Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Mallabe Barcodes Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free Zapier plan. Mallabe Barcodes is not a premium app, so no paid plan is needed to connect it. The free plan gives you 100 tasks per month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger from another app and one action. A Zap that generates a code and then sends it somewhere has three steps, so it needs a paid plan. No price is quoted here, because plan prices change often; the Zapier plans page is the reference.
02How many tasks does generating a QR code use?
One task per code, as long as the action succeeds. Every Mallabe Barcodes action, generating a QR code, a barcode or scanning one, counts once. The trigger of the starting app is free, and an action that fails is not counted. Add the step that sends or stores the code and you reach two tasks per run. Multiply by the number of new entries you expect, and you know whether the 100 tasks of the free plan will last the month.
03Does Mallabe Barcodes work in real time on Zapier?
It depends on the app that starts the Zap, because Mallabe Barcodes has no trigger of its own. If that app has an instant trigger, it reports the event straight away and the code is generated right after. If it uses a polling trigger, Zapier checks it on a timer set by your plan, every 15 minutes on Free. Look at the trigger of the starting app on its Zapier page: polling triggers show their interval there.
04What do you need to connect Mallabe Barcodes to Zapier?
An account on Mallabe, nothing more on the Zapier side. From the Apps page, click + Add connection, search for Mallabe Barcodes, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. The connection is then reused by every Zap that makes or reads codes. If you plan to scan pictures stored by someone else, check that their links are public, because the scan action reads the picture from its link.
05Why does the barcode scan fail on Zapier?
Usually because the picture link is not public. Scan QR Code / Barcode needs a Barcode Image URL that anyone can open without logging in; a file kept behind an account cannot be read. Also check Barcode Type: it defaults to QR Code, so a linear barcode needs that setting changed before the test. Run the step once in the editor and read what came back before publishing the Zap. One test saves a lot of guessing.
06What if the Mallabe Barcodes operation you need doesn't exist?
Then this integration cannot do it today. It offers three actions: generate a QR code, generate a barcode, and scan one. There is no trigger, so a Zap cannot start when a code is scanned elsewhere, and no search to find a code made earlier. Check the operations listed on the Mallabe Barcodes page of Zapier before building, since that list is exactly what the editor will offer you. Nothing else is hidden.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Mallabe Barcodes?
It depends on your criteria, not on a set winner. On Zapier, Mallabe Barcodes runs on the free plan, which suits a single code per run started by another app. If each code must then be sent or stored, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan, so compare how each platform counts usage. The app also has a Make integration; for n8n, check its availability separately, as this page does not cover it.
