MojoTxt Zapier integrationAutomate MojoTxt with Zapier.

The MojoTxt Zapier integration gives you 1 trigger, 2 actions and 0 searches. That is enough to react to a new donation, grow a subscription list from another tool, or send a text to a whole list without opening MojoTxt at all.

Overview

What the MojoTxt Zapier integration actually does

It links MojoTxt, a texting platform for churches and nonprofits, to the other apps you already use. You build a Zap (an automation with one starting event and one or more steps after it), and Zapier runs it for you every time that event shows up. No copy and paste between tabs.

A record of every gift. New Donation starts the Zap when someone gives through MojoTxt, and the next step can write that gift into another tool, such as a spreadsheet your team already keeps. The donation stops living in one place only.

A list that fills itself. Add Person to Subscription List puts a mobile number on one of your MojoTxt lists. Plug it behind a sign-up form in another app and every new sign-up lands on the right list, with nobody retyping numbers.

A text sent from somewhere else. Send Subscription List Message sends an SMS or MMS to one or more lists. The event that starts it can live in any other app connected to Zapier, so the message leaves when that event happens, not when someone remembers.

What Zapier does not do for MojoTxt. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up whether a number is already on a list before adding it. There is no instant trigger either: the donation trigger works by checking at intervals, so a new gift reaches the Zap at the next check. And the editor offers only these three operations, nothing for editing or removing a subscriber.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English, once.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. For MojoTxt, that is a new donation.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like texting a subscription list.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer for new items. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. MojoTxt only has polling.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Connection
Your MojoTxt account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to MojoTxt.
Cost

What it really costs in tasks

MojoTxt is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. The bill is counted in tasks, and only completed actions count.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Trigger cost0 tasks
  • Each successful action1 task

The trigger never costs a task, however often Zapier checks for new donations. Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap that adds a person and then sends a message uses two tasks per run. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and you need a paid plan. The plan also sets how often the donation trigger is checked:

Connect

Connect your MojoTxt account

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a MojoTxt account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick MojoTxt

Type MojoTxt in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the MojoTxt side so you can sign in with the account that holds your numbers and lists.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Sign in to MojoTxt in that tab and allow Zapier to use the account. The connection is then saved once and reused by every MojoTxt step you add to any Zap later on.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log selected gifts in a spreadsheet

GoalEach new MojoTxt donation that matches your condition becomes a row in your spreadsheet.

  1. 01

    Build: set the trigger

Create a Zap, pick MojoTxt as the starting app and New Donation as the event. Choose your connection, then the Phone Number and the Donation Keyword the Zap should watch.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent donations of the connected account, so you map the next steps on a real one. Check there which fields actually come back.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon and add Filter. Set the three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, the value. A filter makes this a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the spreadsheet action

Add your spreadsheet app and its add-a-row action, then map the donation fields from the test into the columns. Test this step too and read what came back before moving on.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From then on, every matching donation found at a check turns into a new row, and gifts made before publishing stay where they are.

Triggers

The MojoTxt trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in MojoTxt. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

New Donation

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new donation is made.”

Starts your Zap each time a person gives through MojoTxt, and hands the donation to the steps that follow. It is the only way for a Zap to start from MojoTxt, so every automation built from this app begins with a gift.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
when each gift should leave a trace in another tool, like a shared spreadsheet.
Watch out
the trigger asks for a Phone Number and a Donation Keyword, both required, so they have to exist in the connected account; check in the test that the donations brought back are the ones you expect.
Actions

The MojoTxt actions

MojoTxt gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add Person to Subscription List

Action

In Zapier“Adds a person to a Subscription List.”

Puts a mobile number on one of your MojoTxt subscription lists, so that person receives what you send to that list.

When to use it
behind a sign-up form in another app, so new sign-ups join the right list.
Watch out
it needs three things, all required: the MojoTxt Phone Number the list belongs to, the Subscription List, and the Subscriber Phone Number.
2

Send Subscription List Message

Action

In Zapier“Sends an SMS or MMS message to a MojoTxt Subscription List.”

Sends a text to one or more of your subscription lists, as an SMS or as an MMS, from the MojoTxt number you pick.

When to use it
when an event in another app should reach the people on a list, without someone writing the text by hand.
Watch out
a standard SMS holds 160 characters and an MMS 1600, so a mapped field that runs long can break the limit.
When it breaks

When a MojoTxt Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article to MojoTxt and lists no limit specific to it. What breaks is what breaks on any Zap.

Four cases are worth knowing before you publish. If a Zap acts strangely, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Past donations are not picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Gifts made before publishing never reach it, and moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off again

As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burn through your tasks.
  • A sudden huge batch

If the trigger suddenly returns a very large batch, for instance after a bulk import, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back.
  • The same donation twice

Zapier remembers what it has already seen on a polling trigger, so the same donation does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

MojoTxt Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the MojoTxt Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free plan, because MojoTxt is not a premium app. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you like, but each Zap holds two steps only: one trigger and one action. A Zap that logs a donation in a spreadsheet fits. A Zap that adds someone to a list and then texts them does not, because the second action makes it multi-step, and multi-step Zaps need a paid plan. The free plan also checks the donation trigger every 15 minutes.
02How many tasks does a MojoTxt Zap use?
One task per action that completes, and nothing else. Zapier checking for new donations is free, however often it looks, and the trigger itself never costs a task. A Zap with one MojoTxt action costs one task each time it runs; a Zap that adds a person and then sends a list message costs two. If an action fails, that action is not counted against your plan. Keep that in mind when you plan a Zap that fires on every gift.
03Does MojoTxt send donations to Zapier in real time?
No. New Donation is a polling trigger: Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan. That is every 15 minutes on the free plan, every 2 minutes on Professional, and every minute on Team and Enterprise. MojoTxt has no instant trigger, and the type of a trigger cannot be changed from the editor. On a paid plan you can also run a check by hand from the editor when you want to see a gift come through while testing.
04What do you need to connect MojoTxt to Zapier?
An account on MojoTxt, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. The connection starts from the Apps page of your Zapier account, with + Add connection, then you sign in to MojoTxt in the tab that opens and grant access. In practice, use the account that holds the MojoTxt Phone Number and the subscription lists, since every step of this app asks for that number before anything else.
05Why watch the length of a list message sent from Zapier?
Because of length. The Message field of Send Subscription List Message follows the limits MojoTxt states: 160 characters for a standard SMS, 1600 for an MMS. When you map text from another app into that field, a long value can go over. Pick MMS in the Message Type field when the content runs long, or shorten what you map, and run the step test to read what came back before you publish.
06What if the MojoTxt operation you want is not available?
Then a Zap cannot do it with a MojoTxt step. The editor offers one trigger, New Donation, and two actions: Add Person to Subscription List and Send Subscription List Message. The MojoTxt page on Zapier shows the current list, so check it there before you plan around a missing step. Updating or removing a subscriber, or searching for one, is not on it today. The workaround is to keep that part of the job in MojoTxt itself and automate only what the three operations cover.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for MojoTxt?
Decide on criteria, not on a ranking. First, check that the other tool offers a MojoTxt connector at all, since this page only covers Zapier's. Second, count your steps: a two-step Zap runs on Zapier's free plan, while anything longer needs a paid plan. Third, think about timing: the donation trigger here works by checking at intervals, and the interval follows your plan. Fourth, ask who will keep the automation running once it is published.
