Overview

What the Moneypenny Zapier integration actually does

With Moneypenny, a team assigned to you takes care of your calls, your live chat conversations and other channels on your behalf. The Zapier side is narrow: when Moneypenny takes a message on your behalf and sends it to you, Zapier can catch it and pass it on to another app. That is the whole integration, and it works on the free plan.

Three things people usually get out of it. First, a message posted in a team chat channel: Message Received starts the Zap, and the second step drops the text where the whole team sees it, instead of in one inbox. Second, a running log in a spreadsheet: each message becomes a new row, so you can sort and count what came in without scrolling through emails. Third, a follow-up task in your to-do tool: a message that needs a callback turns into a task with an owner.

What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. The integration has no action and no search on the Moneypenny side. A Zap cannot send anything back to Moneypenny, cannot change your recipients and cannot look up an old message. Data flows one way, out of Moneypenny. If your plan needs a round trip, this integration will not cover it.

There is no n8n or Make page for Moneypenny on this site. If you are weighing the three platforms in general, see our n8n vs Zapier guide, or open our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

The words you will meet in the editor, in plain English. Each one is used as-is in the rest of the page.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Here it is Message Received: once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, in another app.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully; your plan counts those.
Instant vs polling trigger
An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment it happens. A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it needs a paid plan.
Connection
Your Moneypenny account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step and every Zap that uses the app.
Cost

What a Moneypenny Zap really costs

Moneypenny is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. The trigger never costs a task. Only the action that follows does, and only when it succeeds.

  • Message Received0 task, whatever the volume
  • Each successful action1 task (a failed one is not counted)
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

On the free plan you get 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you like, each limited to two steps: Message Received plus one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. A failed action is not billed, and checking for new data never is either. The interval grid below is Zapier's general one for polling triggers: it does not apply to this app, whose only trigger is instant.

Connect

Connect Moneypenny to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. Before you start, check what you need: an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Find Moneypenny and add it

Type Moneypenny in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Moneypenny sign-in screen.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in with your Moneypenny username and password, then grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved once and every later Zap that uses Moneypenny reuses it.

First Zap

Your first Moneypenny Zap

GoalPost only the messages meant for one department into a team chat channel.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Create a Zap, choose Moneypenny as the app and Message Received as the event. Select your connection, then set Recipients to the department whose messages you want.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you map the next steps on a real message rather than on a guess.

  3. 03

    Add a filter (paid plan)

Click the plus icon and add Filter. Fill the three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, the value. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so this step needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the chat action

Add your team chat as the action, pick the channel, and map the message content from the trigger into the text field. Check at the test which fields the trigger really sends.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the action once and read what came back. When it looks right, click Publish. The Zap is on, and the next message Moneypenny sends starts it.

Triggers

The Moneypenny trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Moneypenny, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Message Received

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when Moneypenny sends you a message. The message will go via Zapier to your chosen platform. You must be a Moneypenny admin to activate this. Please contact Moneypenny if you do not know your username and password on 0345 123 3700 (UK) or 843-619-7878 (US).”

Starts your Zap each time Moneypenny takes a message for you and sends it on. The Zap then carries that message to another app of your choice, so nobody has to copy it by hand from an email.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
when a message left with Moneypenny should reach a shared space, a log or a task list rather than one person's inbox.
Watch out
the Recipients setting is required. Moneypenny routes each message to an individual or a department, and the Zap only sees the ones you pick there. Activating it also takes a Moneypenny admin account.
When it breaks

When a Moneypenny Zap breaks

Zapier lists no help article and no rate limit specific to Moneypenny. What goes wrong comes from the account itself and from the general rules every Zap follows.

Four cases are worth knowing before you publish. For anything else, our Zapier troubleshooting page is the next stop.

  • No admin rights on Moneypenny

The trigger can only be activated by a Moneypenny admin. Without that role on the account you sign in with, the Zap cannot be switched on as planned.
  • Old messages never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Messages Moneypenny sent you before the Zap went live are not picked up; moving them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again and burn through your tasks.
  • A sudden wave held back

If a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running the Zap on every item.

FAQ

Moneypenny Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Moneypenny Zapier integration free?
Yes. Moneypenny is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that forwards Message Received to one other app fits inside that. A filter or a second action would make the Zap multi-step, and multi-step Zaps need a paid plan. So the free plan is enough to try the integration, as long as you keep it simple.
02How many tasks does each Moneypenny message use?
It depends on the actions, not on the trigger. Message Received itself never costs a task. Each action that completes successfully counts as one task, so a Zap posting each message to one chat channel uses one task per message. Two actions means two tasks per message. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. A few apps and actions take more than one task, so check the action you pick.
03Does Moneypenny reach Zapier in real time?
Yes. Message Received is an instant trigger: the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The polling interval grid of Zapier plans only concerns triggers that Zapier checks on a timer, and Moneypenny has none of those. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt, which is a quick way to confirm it. Nothing to tune on your side: the speed does not depend on the plan you pay for.
04What does connecting a Moneypenny account require?
An account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. For this trigger there is one more condition: you must be a Moneypenny admin to activate it. The connection is made from the Apps page of your Zapier account, then reused by every Zap that uses Moneypenny. If your own login is not an admin one, the trigger cannot be activated from it, so check your role first.
05Why are some Moneypenny messages missing from the Zap?
Check the Recipients setting first. Moneypenny sends each message it takes to an individual or a department, and Message Received only passes on the messages of the recipients you selected. A message routed to someone you left out never reaches the Zap. If a new colleague or department starts receiving messages, open the trigger and add them. Then run a test to see what comes through, and compare it with the messages you expected to get.
06What if the Moneypenny operation you want is not there?
Then this integration cannot do it today. The Moneypenny page on Zapier shows the current list of operations, and right now that list holds one trigger, Message Received, with no action and no search. Sending data into Moneypenny, editing recipients or finding a past message are not on offer. Check that page before you design a Zap around a step that does not exist, and plan the rest of the workflow in the other apps of the Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Moneypenny?
Decide by what you need from the app. On Zapier, Moneypenny offers one instant trigger and nothing else, which covers forwarding messages out. If that is your whole need, a two-step Zap does it on the free plan. If you need to push data into Moneypenny, check first whether Make or n8n offers a Moneypenny connector with that step, since this page cannot confirm it. Then weigh how each platform bills runs.
