Overview

What the MusicGPT Zapier integration does for you

The MusicGPT Zapier integration lets your other apps hand audio work to MusicGPT without you opening it. A form, a spreadsheet or any app Zapier knows can pass along a prompt, a text or a link to a file, and MusicGPT returns lyrics, a voice track, a cleaned recording or an analysis. One trigger also watches your own conversions.

Three results show what that looks like. Lyrics from a one-line brief: Generate Lyrics turns a plain-language prompt into song lyrics, so an idea typed into a form comes back as a verse you can work on. A cleaner recording: Remove Noise From Audio, Remove Echo From Audio and Remove Reverb From Audio each take one file and strip out one problem, which suits recordings that arrive rough. Words you can search: Transcribe Audio to Text turns speech into text, can translate it to English and can add line timestamps.

The trigger, New Conversion, closes the loop the other way: when a conversion appears in your account, a Zap can pick it up and pass it on.

Now what Zapier does not do with MusicGPT. There is only one trigger, and it is a polling one, so nothing reaches Zapier the moment a conversion finishes. No action deletes or edits a conversion once it exists. None of the four searches can create what it fails to find. And every audio action needs a file that is reachable, by link or by upload, so the audio has to live somewhere first. If you are weighing other platforms, see our MusicGPT Make integration page.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary, in one minute

Eight words carry the rest of this page. Each one is explained here, once.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or produces something for you, such as a MusicGPT audio job.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is a count of those.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer: it asks the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeps only what it has not seen.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, calling Zapier the moment the event happens. MusicGPT has none of these today.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops the run otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, such as a voice, so the steps that follow can use what it found.
Cost

What a MusicGPT Zap really costs

MusicGPT is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works from the free plan. The question is how many steps your Zap needs.

  • Tasks on the free plan100 per month
  • Steps per Zap on the free plan2 (one trigger, one action)
  • Cost of the trigger0 tasks
  • Paid plan required for MusicGPTNo

The trigger never costs a task, and neither do Zapier's checks for new conversions, however often they run. Each MusicGPT action that succeeds counts as one task; an action that fails is not counted. A few apps and actions take more than one task, so read the count after your first runs. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps: one trigger, one action. A filter, a search such as Search Voices or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The grid below is how often New Conversion gets checked.

Connect

Connect MusicGPT to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a MusicGPT account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Find MusicGPT

Type MusicGPT in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the MusicGPT side so you can sign in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Sign in to MusicGPT in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is then saved, and every MusicGPT step in any of your Zaps reuses it.

First Zap

Your first Zap: each new conversion, transcribed

GoalEach new conversion in your MusicGPT account is transcribed to text, but only when it passes the condition you set in a filter.

  1. 01

    Build the Zap

Create a Zap, choose MusicGPT as the trigger app and New Conversion as the event. Connect your MusicGPT account and continue.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you pick a real conversion and see what it carries.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, choose Filter, and fill its three boxes: the field, the rule, the value. This step needs a paid plan, since it makes the Zap multi-step.

  4. 04

    Add the transcription

Pick MusicGPT again, then Transcribe Audio to Text. Set Audio Input Method and choose the audio from the trigger data; confirm on the test which value fits.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run the action test and read the text MusicGPT sent back. When it matches the recording, click Publish to switch the Zap on.

Triggers

The MusicGPT trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in MusicGPT. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

New Conversion

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new conversion is created in your account.”

Starts a Zap whenever a new conversion turns up in your MusicGPT account. It is the only way for something that happens inside MusicGPT to reach your other tools.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
you want each finished result logged in a spreadsheet, posted to your team or handed to a second MusicGPT step.
Watch out
run the trigger test before mapping anything, and check on the samples what a conversion actually carries.
Actions

The 21 MusicGPT actions

MusicGPT gives you 21 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Trim Audio

Action

In Zapier“Cut or trim audio between specified start and end times with custom output format.”

Keeps only the part of a file between a start and an end time, and can export in another format. Both times are in milliseconds.

When to use it
you need a short extract, such as a teaser, cut from a longer recording.
Watch out
5000 means five seconds, not five thousand.
2

Master Audio

Action

In Zapier“Master an audio file using a reference track to match its sonic characteristics. Perfect for achieving professional sound quality by matching your audio to a reference.”

Masters your file against a reference track so it takes on that track's sonic character. Both the file and the reference are required.

When to use it
several files should sound alike from one to the next.
Watch out
pick the reference with care; it sets the result.
3

Convert Audio to MIDI

Action

In Zapier“Convert an audio file into MIDI format with optional sonification and note event export.”

Turns a recording into MIDI. Two options add a WAV file that plays the MIDI back and a CSV of the detected note events.

When to use it
a recorded melody should open in music software as editable notes.
Watch out
the recording comes in through the required Audio Input Method field, by link or upload.
4

Transcribe Audio to Text

Action

In Zapier“Convert spoken audio into text with support for language detection, translation, and multiple output formats.”

Writes out what is said in a file, with language detection and several output formats. Two switches add an English translation and line timestamps.

When to use it
spoken recordings should become text you can search and quote.
Watch out
Audio Input Method is required here too, so the recording must be reachable by link or upload.
5

Change Audio Speed

Action

In Zapier“Speed up or slow down audio playback by a specified factor (0.25x to 4.0x) with optional format conversion.”

Speeds a file up or slows it down by a factor between 0.25x and 4.0x, with an optional format change.

When to use it
the same file is also needed in a slower or faster version.
Watch out
1.5 means half again as fast; 0.5 means half speed.
6

Create AI Cover Song

Action

In Zapier“Create an AI cover of a song using a selected voice with optional pitch adjustment.”

Remakes a song in a voice you choose, with an optional pitch adjustment. Audio Input Type and Voice are both required.

When to use it
you want to hear an existing recording in another voice before committing to a session.
Watch out
the Voice field expects a voice MusicGPT knows; List All Voices shows the options.
7

Remove Echo From Audio

Action

In Zapier“Remove or reduce echo effects from an audio file to improve audio quality.”

Reduces the echo in a recording, for files captured in rooms that bounce sound around.

When to use it
files keep arriving with a hollow, echoing sound.
Watch out
echo and reverb are two separate actions; each run fixes one.
8

Remove Noise From Audio

Action

In Zapier“Remove or reduce background noise from an audio file to improve audio clarity and quality.”

Cuts background noise out of a file so voices come through more clearly. Audio Input Method, which is required, says whether the file comes as a link or an upload.

When to use it
recordings land with a hum or hiss behind the voice and should be cleaned before anyone edits them.
9

Remove Reverb From Audio

Action

In Zapier“Remove or reduce reverb effects from an audio file to create a drier, clearer sound.”

Strips reverb from a file for a drier, closer sound. As with the other cleanup steps, you start by choosing how the audio is provided.

When to use it
a voice track sounds too distant next to the rest of a mix.
10

Extend Audio

Action

In Zapier“Seamlessly extend an existing audio track by adding new content after a specified timestamp with customizable prompt and lyrics.”

Adds new material after a point you set in an existing track, guided by a prompt and lyrics. Extend After is given in seconds.

When to use it
a draft is too short and you want MusicGPT to continue it from a chosen moment.
11

Extract Audio Stems

Action

In Zapier“Extract vocals, instrumentals, or specific instruments from audio with optional preprocessing (denoise, deecho, dereverb).”

Separates vocals, instrumentals or single instruments from a mix, with optional denoise, deecho and dereverb first.

When to use it
you need the a cappella or the backing track of a song you already have.
Watch out
the denoise, deecho and dereverb options are optional, so compare a test with and without them.
12

Extract Key and BPM

Action

In Zapier“Extract musical key, BPM (tempo), and key changes from an audio file for music analysis.”

Reads a file and reports its musical key, its tempo in BPM and any key changes. You choose how the file is provided, and MusicGPT does the analysis.

When to use it
every track added to a library should be tagged with key and tempo without anyone listening to it first.
13

Convert Audio File Format

Action

In Zapier“Convert audio files to different formats with customizable sampling rate and bit depth.”

Changes a file's format, with control over sampling rate and bit depth. Target Format is required. The source file comes in by link or upload, like everywhere else.

When to use it
the tool that receives the audio next accepts only one format and the uploads arrive in several.
14

Generate Music With AI

Action

In Zapier“Generate original music using AI based on lyrics, prompts, or style descriptions. Optionally apply voice conversion to the generated audio.”

Produces an original track from lyrics, a prompt or a style description, and can run voice conversion on the result.

When to use it
a brief collected elsewhere should come back as a first draft of a song.
Watch out
Make Instrumental and Vocal Only change what you get back, so set them on purpose rather than leaving them to chance.
15

Inpaint Audio Section

Action

In Zapier“Replace or regenerate a specific time range in an audio file with AI-generated content based on your prompt and lyrics.”

Regenerates only a slice of a file, between a start and an end time in seconds, based on your prompt and lyrics.

When to use it
one line of a recording is wrong and the rest should stay as it is.
Watch out
both times are required, so the step needs them from an earlier step or typed in.
16

Generate Lyrics

Action

In Zapier“Convert a natural-language prompt into song lyrics (plus optional metadata).”

Hands MusicGPT a sentence in plain language and gets song lyrics back, with optional metadata. Prompt is a required field, and no audio file is involved.

When to use it
ideas typed into a form or a chat should turn into verses you can edit before recording.
17

Remix Audio

Action

In Zapier“Transform and remix audio using AI based on your prompt, lyrics, and creative control parameters.”

Reworks a track according to your prompt, lyrics and creative settings. The audio comes in by link or by file upload. Like most actions here, it starts by asking how the file is provided.

When to use it
one finished song should give you alternate takes to compare.
18

Generate Vocals Over Instrumental

Action

In Zapier“Generate a vocal performance over a provided instrumental track using AI with lyrics and prompt.”

Sends an instrumental track plus lyrics, and MusicGPT sings those lyrics over it. Both the instrumental (by link or upload) and the Lyrics field are required.

When to use it
you already have a backing track and want quick vocal demos for several sets of words.
19

Generate Sound Effects

Action

In Zapier“Generate sound effects using AI based on text prompt description.”

Describe a sound in words and MusicGPT generates it. The Sound Prompt field is required and takes up to 300 characters.

When to use it
sound requests arrive through a form and the files should come back without a back-and-forth.
Watch out
long descriptions coming from a form can go past 300 characters.
20

Convert Text to Speech

Action

In Zapier“Convert text to speech using a specified voice and gender preference.”

Reads a text aloud in the voice you pick, with a gender preference. Text and Voice are required.

When to use it
short written messages need an audio version without anyone recording them.
Watch out
Search Voices finds a voice by name if you do not know its ID.
21

Convert Voice to Voice

Action

In Zapier“Convert an audio file to a different voice using AI voice transformation.”

Swaps the voice in a recording for another one, chosen in the required Voice field.

When to use it
a guide vocal recorded by anyone on the team should be heard in the target voice.
Watch out
a Search Voices step before it lets you pick the voice by name instead of typing an ID.
Searches

The 4 MusicGPT searches

4 search steps look for data that already exists in MusicGPT, so a later step can use it.

A search step does not produce anything new: it looks something up so the next step can use it. In the editor, MusicGPT's searches sit at the bottom of the Action event list, under SEARCH. Each one makes your Zap multi-step, so they need a paid plan.

1

List All Voices

Search

In Zapier“Fetch all available voices with their IDs and whether they are TTS-only.”

Fetches every voice available to you, with its ID and a flag saying whether it is limited to text-to-speech. What it returns helps you fill the Voice field of the actions that ask for one.

When to use it
before a voice-based action, to see which voices exist and which ones work beyond text-to-speech.
2

List My Conversions

Search

In Zapier“Fetch the current user's conversions with optional filters and pagination.”

Looks through the conversions of your own account, with optional filters and paging.

When to use it
a later step needs one of your past results, for example to log or reuse it.
Watch out
without filters you may get more than you want, so check the multiple-results setting.
3

Get Conversion by ID

Search

In Zapier“Retrieve a specific conversion by type and either task_id or conversion_id.”

Retrieves one specific conversion from its type and either its task ID or its conversion ID. Conversion Type is required.

When to use it
an earlier step gave you an ID and you need the full record behind it.
Watch out
if nothing matches, the setting Successful if no search results are found? decides whether the Zap stops there.
4

Search Voices

Search

In Zapier“Search voices by name and return matching voice IDs, names, and TTS-only flag.”

Finds voices whose name matches what you type in Query, and returns their IDs, names and text-to-speech flag.

When to use it
right before Convert Text to Speech or Convert Voice to Voice, so the voice is picked by name.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there and the steps that depended on it are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
On apps that offer it, this box turns a search into a find-or-create. None of the four MusicGPT searches has that variant, so you will not see it here.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one, which is the default, stop the Zap, or hand all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a MusicGPT Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to MusicGPT, and no limit specific to the app is on record. What goes wrong comes from the way every Zap behaves.

These four cases are worth knowing before you publish. If one of them shows up, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Older conversions are not picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Conversions that already existed stay out of it; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burns through tasks fast.
  • A sudden batch

If a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
  • The same conversion twice

On a polling trigger such as New Conversion, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same item does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

MusicGPT Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the MusicGPT Zapier integration free?
Partly. MusicGPT is not reserved for paid plans, so a two-step Zap with it runs on the free plan, but its 4 searches do not fit there. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month, an unlimited number of Zaps, and a check every 15 minutes on polling triggers such as New Conversion. The limit is the shape of each Zap: two steps, one trigger and one action. A form plus Generate Lyrics fits. A filter, any of the 4 searches or a second action turns it into a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a MusicGPT Zap use?
One task for each MusicGPT action that completes successfully. The New Conversion trigger costs nothing, and neither do Zapier's checks for new conversions. An action that fails is not counted against the plan. In a Zap with several actions, each successful one counts separately, so a Zap that removes noise, then transcribes, then posts the text uses three tasks per run. A few apps and actions take more than one task, so check the count after a first run.
03Does MusicGPT work in real time with Zapier?
No. New Conversion is a polling trigger: Zapier asks MusicGPT for new conversions at a fixed interval, and that interval depends on your plan. It is 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, and 1 on Team and Enterprise. MusicGPT has no instant trigger, so no plan makes it immediate. On paid plans the interval can be adjusted, and a check can also be run by hand from the editor when you are testing.
04What does it take to connect MusicGPT?
A MusicGPT account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. The connection is created once from the Apps page of your Zapier account: click + Add connection, search MusicGPT, click Add connection, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. Every MusicGPT step in your Zaps then reuses it. For the actions themselves, also plan where your audio files live, since most of them ask for a link or an upload.
05Why does Trim Audio take milliseconds when Extend Audio takes seconds?
Because each action defines its own units. Trim Audio wants Start Time and End Time in milliseconds, so 5000 is five seconds and 15000 is fifteen. Extend Audio sets Extend After in seconds, and Inpaint Audio Section gives its start and end in seconds too. When a time comes from an earlier step, check its unit on a test run before you publish. Typed values follow the same rule: a fixed start of 5 seconds is 5 in Extend Audio but 5000 in Trim Audio. Writing the unit next to the field name in your notes saves a second look later.
06What if the MusicGPT operation you need is not there?
Then Zapier does not offer it for MusicGPT today. The MusicGPT app page on Zapier shows the current list, which is the reference. At the time of writing it holds one trigger, 21 actions and 4 searches, with nothing to delete or edit a conversion and no find-or-create search. You can still chain what exists: a search step to get a voice ID, then an action that uses it. Anything outside that list cannot be done from a Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for MusicGPT?
Judge on your own criteria, not on a brand. Start with coverage: on Zapier, MusicGPT has 21 actions and a single polling trigger, so check what the other platform lists for the same app. Then count the steps your flow needs, because on Zapier any search, filter or second action means a paid plan. Finally, think about who will keep the flow running. Build the same small flow on each before deciding.
