Overview

What the Novo Zapier integration actually does

Novo is a business bank account built for small companies. Linked to Zapier, it does one thing: it reports each new transaction the moment it lands, so another app can react to it. Novo is only ever the starting point here. Zapier can't write anything back into the account.

With a single event, the value comes from what you plug in after it. Three outcomes people usually look for, all built on New Transaction:

A running ledger. Every movement on the account becomes a row in a spreadsheet, so your bookkeeper sees the money without logging into the bank.

A team alert. A payment hits the account and a message goes out to the person who chases invoices, so nobody refreshes the banking app all day.

A cleaner hand-off to accounting. Each transaction is pushed into the tool that prepares your books, where someone categorizes it.

What Zapier does not do for Novo: there is no action, so a Zap can't create a payment, move money or edit a transaction. There is no search either, so a Zap can't look up an older transaction. And nothing that happened before the Zap was switched on gets picked up. If your workflow needs more than reacting to new transactions, compare the options in Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier before you build.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words come back on every Zapier screen. Here they are in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it to happen.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something on your behalf.
Task
The unit Zapier bills you for. One task is one action your Zap finished successfully, nothing else.
Polling vs instant trigger
Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer. Instant: the app calls Zapier itself the second the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your Novo account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step in every Zap that touches Novo.
Cost

What it really costs

The Novo trigger itself never costs a task. You only pay for the actions that follow it, and only when they work.

  • TriggerFree, never billed
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

Each action that completes counts as one task, and a failed action is not counted. Novo isn't a premium app, so it runs on the free plan: 100 tasks a month and Zaps limited to two steps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. So the polling interval grid below doesn't apply here: this trigger is instant, on every plan.

Connect

Connect your Novo account

  1. 01

    Open your Zapier apps

In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box. Type Novo in it and pick it from the list.

  2. 02

    Sign in to Novo

Click Add connection. A new tab opens on Novo. Sign in with the account that holds the bank account you want to watch, the same one you use every day.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to access the account. If the bank account belongs to someone else, you need access to it first. The connection is saved once. Every Zap that uses Novo will now reuse it, no need to sign in again.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log large Novo payments in a sheet

GoalEvery new Novo transaction that matches your rule lands as a row in a spreadsheet.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick Novo as the app that starts it, then New Transaction as the event. Choose the Novo connection you just added.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent transactions on the account, so you set up the next steps on a real one instead of guessing.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

Add a Filter step from the plus icon. Pick the amount field, a number rule and your threshold. A text rule on an amount never passes, so check the type.

  4. 04

    Add the action

Add the spreadsheet step and map the transaction fields into its columns. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan. Drop the filter to stay free.

  5. 05

    Test and publish

Test each step and read what came back, then click Publish. The Zap is on, and the next transaction starts it without waiting for any check.

Triggers

The Novo trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Novo, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Transaction

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new transaction is added.”

Each time money moves in or out of your Novo business account, this event hands the transaction to your Zap, which can then pass its details to any app you pick next.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
you want your bookkeeping sheet, your team chat or your accounting tool to know about a payment without anyone exporting a statement.
Watch out
it reacts to every new transaction, so put a filter after it if only some of them matter, and remember that the filter needs a paid plan.
When it breaks

When the Novo Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article to Novo, so the traps below are the general ones.

None of them throws a loud error. The Zap just does less, or more, than you expected. If one of them bites, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the fix.

  • Your history never shows up

The Zap only reacts to transactions that land after you publish it. Everything already on the account stays where it is, and moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A bulk import gets held back

If a large batch of transactions arrives at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold the trigger back instead of firing for each one.
  • The filter never lets anything through

Filter rules are typed. A text rule on an amount, or a number rule on a label, never matches, and the Zap quietly stops at the filter every time.
  • Tasks run out mid-month

Every transaction that reaches an action costs a task. On a busy account the 100 tasks a month of the free plan go faster than you think.

FAQ

Novo Zapier integration: your questions

01Is the Novo Zapier integration free?
Yes, you can use it on the free plan. Novo is not a premium app, so Zapier does not reserve it for paid plans. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and lets you build as many Zaps as you like, but each one is limited to two steps: the Novo trigger and one action. As soon as you add a filter, a second action or a search, the Zap becomes a multi-step Zap and you need a paid plan to switch it on.
02How many tasks does a Novo Zap use?
The trigger costs nothing, so a Novo Zap only uses tasks for what happens next. Each action that completes successfully counts as one task, and an action that fails is not counted. A Zap with one action uses one task per transaction. A Zap with three actions uses three tasks per transaction, which adds up quickly on an account with a lot of movement. Watching for new transactions is free as well, however busy the account gets.
03Does Novo trigger Zaps in real time?
Yes. New Transaction is an instant trigger: Novo calls Zapier itself as soon as the transaction exists, so the Zap starts straight away. That means the interval grid of the plans, from 15 minutes on Free down to 1 minute on Team and Enterprise, does not apply here. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. This type is set by Novo and can't be changed from Zapier, so you get the same speed on every plan.
04What does it take to connect a Novo account?
You need an account on Novo, plus access to the bank account you want the Zap to watch if you don't own it yourself. The connection happens from the Apps page of Zapier: click + Add connection, search for Novo, sign in in the tab that opens, then grant Zapier access. The connection is saved once and every Zap that uses Novo reuses it, so you don't sign in again for each new Zap.
05Why doesn't a new Zap pick up older Novo transactions?
Because a Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Transactions that were already on the account when you published it are never sent through, and there is no setting to go back in time. If you need your history in a spreadsheet or an accounting tool, treat it as a one-off import done outside the Zap. Once that is done, the Zap takes care of every new transaction from then on.
06What if the Novo operation you need isn't there?
Then Zapier can't do it for Novo today. The integration has a single trigger and no action or search, so a Zap can't create a payment, update a transaction or look one up. What you can do is react to new transactions and do the work in the next app. If the missing step is the heart of your workflow, it's worth checking whether another automation tool reaches further into the account before you build anything.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Novo?
It depends on your criteria rather than on a winner. Zapier is the quickest to set up and the Novo trigger is instant on every plan, which matters if you are on the free plan. The trade-off is the narrow scope: one event and nothing else. If you need more control over each step, self-hosting or a different pricing model, compare the tools side by side on those three points before you commit to one.
