Overview

What the Ometria Zapier integration actually does

Ometria helps retail brands run their customer marketing from one place. On Zapier, the integration does a single job: any app that starts a Zap can send a contact to Ometria, which then either creates that contact or updates the one it already has. Everything else happens inside Ometria.

Three results you can build with that one action. Shop customers ready for your campaigns: a new customer in your store starts the Zap, and Create or Update Contact puts that person in Ometria without a CSV import. Sign-ups from forms and events, in the same base: a newsletter form, a pop-up store registration or a competition entry can all feed Ometria through their own Zaps. Details kept current: because the action updates existing contacts as well as creating new ones, a later Zap run for the same person refreshes the record instead of leaving a stale copy.

What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. Ometria has no trigger on Zapier, so nothing that happens in Ometria can start a Zap: a campaign sent, a segment change or a new contact stays inside Ometria. There is no search either, and no action to delete a contact. The start of every Ometria Zap is another app, and nothing that happened before the Zap was switched on is picked up.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, in plain English

Seven words come back all over this page. Here is what each one means before you open the editor.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. With Ometria, it always comes from another app, such as your online store.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes or sends something for you, here a contact into Ometria.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer set by your plan. An instant trigger is reported by its app the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Connection
Your Ometria account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that sends data to Ometria.
Cost

What an Ometria Zap really costs

Zapier bills completed actions, not events. The trigger from the other app costs nothing; each Create or Update Contact that goes through counts as one task.

  • Trigger (other app)0 task
  • Each successful contact sent1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, 2-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

An action that fails is not counted. A Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap eats. Ometria is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two steps per Zap, one trigger and one action. A store-to-Ometria Zap fits exactly. Add a filter, for example to keep only customers who opted in, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Since the trigger belongs to another app, the polling grid below applies to it when that trigger is a polling one.

Connect

Connect your Ometria account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need an Ometria account first, plus access to anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick Ometria

Type Ometria in the search box of the dialog that appears, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Ometria side.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Ometria in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection is saved once, then offered in every Zap step that uses Ometria from now on.

First Zap

Your first Ometria Zap: send opted-in shop customers to Ometria

GoalWhen a new customer is created in your Shopify store and meets your condition, that person is created or updated as a contact in Ometria.

  1. 01

    Build the trigger

Create a Zap and pick Shopify as the starting app, with a new customer as the event. Select your store's connection so Zapier knows where to look.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent customers of the connected store, so you map the next steps on a real person rather than an empty sample.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add Filter. Pick the field to look at, the rule and the value. A text rule only works on text. This step makes the Zap multi-step.

  4. 04

    Add the Ometria action

Add Ometria with Create or Update Contact. Map the customer's email into Email Address, the one required field, then any other details you want.

  5. 05

    Test and publish

Test the action once and check the contact in Ometria before going further, since it is a real record. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on.

Actions

The Ometria action

Ometria gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create or Update Contact

Action

In Zapier“Creates or updates an existing contact in Ometria”

Sends a person to Ometria, which adds them as a new contact or refreshes the contact it already holds. It is the action Zapier puts forward for the app, and the only one on offer.

When to use it
a fashion retailer wants every in-store sign-up from a tablet form to join its Ometria audience for the next campaign.
Watch out
Email Address is mandatory; a person without one stops the run.
When it breaks

When an Ometria Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Ometria, so the cases below are the general ones that hit any Zap. With marketing contacts, each of them shows up as people missing from your lists.

  • No catch-up on existing customers

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Customers already in your store are not sent to Ometria; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A loop in the starting app

If another step writes back into the place your trigger watches, the Zap sets itself off again and again and burns through the task count fast.
  • Flood protection after an import

A bulk import in the starting app makes its trigger return a huge batch at once, and Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running it all.
  • Each person sent once

On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same customer does not start the Zap twice and does not cost a second task.

FAQ

Ometria Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Ometria Zapier integration free?
Yes. Ometria is not a premium app, so it runs on the Zapier free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is capped at two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that starts in your store and runs Create or Update Contact fits inside that limit. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. So before you add conditions, such as keeping only customers who opted in, decide whether the paid plan is worth it.
02How many tasks does an Ometria Zap use?
One task per contact that Ometria accepts. The trigger, which belongs to another app, costs nothing. A Zap with a single Create or Update Contact action uses one task each time it runs successfully, whether the contact is created or updated, and an action that fails is not counted. On the free plan, 100 tasks a month means 100 contacts sent, so a busy store or form can reach that ceiling before the month ends.
03Does Ometria work in real time with Zapier?
Ometria has no trigger, so the timing depends on the app that starts your Zap. If that app's trigger is instant, the Zap starts straight away and the contact reaches Ometria right after. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks on a timer set by your plan: 15 minutes on the free plan, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt, which tells you which case applies.
04What does it take to connect an Ometria account to Zapier?
An Ometria account and a few clicks. Open the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, search for Ometria, click Add connection, then sign in to Ometria in the tab that opens and grant access to the account. You also need access to anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. For the action itself, plan for a starting app that collects an email for every person, since Email Address is required.
05Why do some contacts never reach Ometria?
Most often because the email is missing. Create or Update Contact requires an Email Address, so a person who arrives from the starting app without one makes the action fail. That failed run costs no task, but the contact is simply not sent. Check that the field you mapped is filled for every record, and on a paid plan consider a filter that lets only people with an email through. Contacts that existed before the Zap was published are not sent either.
06What if the Ometria operation you want is not available?
Then Zapier cannot do it for now. The integration has one action, no trigger and no search, so a Zap cannot start from an Ometria event, look up a contact, add someone to a segment or delete a record. Those jobs stay inside Ometria itself. Another automation platform may expose a different set of Ometria operations, so compare what each one actually offers before you commit, rather than hitting the gap halfway through a workflow.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Ometria?
Decide on criteria rather than on a ranking. On Zapier, Ometria offers one action, Create or Update Contact, and no trigger, and it is not premium, so a two-step Zap runs on the free plan. For any other platform, check three things: whether it exposes the Ometria operations your scenario needs, how it bills each run, and whether its free tier allows the number of steps you plan to chain. The answer depends on your scenario, not on the tool.
