What the Penni Cart Zapier integration actually does
The Penni Cart Zapier integration sends what happens in your Penni Cart checkout to the rest of your tools, and lets other apps create discount coupons in Penni Cart. Carts, failed payments, purchases and subscription changes each start a Zap, and Penni Cart reports every one of them to Zapier itself.
Three results you can build. A rescue message for lost carts: Abandoned Cart starts the Zap when a buyer leaves the checkout after the delay you set, and the next steps can build a coupon with Create / Update Coupon and send it. A clean sales log: New Transaction and New Subscription each add a row to the sheet or the CRM your finance team reads, without an export. An alert when money slips away: Failed Transaction and Cancel Subscription tell the right person, so a declined card or a churned subscriber gets a human follow-up.
The one piece of good news worth putting first: all seven Penni Cart triggers are instant, so the interval of your Zapier plan does not apply, even on the free plan. Now the limits. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an order or a customer in Penni Cart. The only action is about coupons: a Zap cannot refund, cancel or edit a subscription for you. And the coupon you create still needs another app to reach the buyer. For hands-on setup of chains like these, see the Zapier training.
The Zapier words, in plain English
Seven terms come back on this page. Each one is explained once, here.
- Zap
- The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. Penni Cart has seven, from cart to subscription.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something. Penni Cart has one, for coupons.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan counts these, nothing else.
- Polling vs instant
- Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer. Instant: the app tells Zapier the moment something happens. Every Penni Cart trigger is instant.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and stops the run otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Penni Cart Zap costs you
Penni Cart is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works on the free plan. The bill comes from the actions after the trigger, never from the trigger.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Zap size on freeOne trigger and one action
- Penni Cart premium? No, available on the free plan
- Penni Cart triggers7 instant, no interval wait
A Penni Cart trigger never costs a task. Each action that completes is one task, and an action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps: one trigger, one action. A busy shop can reach that ceiling fast, since every sale or cart is a run. The interval grid below does not apply here, because all seven triggers are instant. Add a filter or a second action, as in the coupon Zap further down, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
Connect your Penni Cart account in 3 steps
- 01
Open the connections page
In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Penni Cart account, plus access to any store data you do not own but want the Zap to read or change.
- 02
Pick Penni Cart
Type Penni Cart in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Penni Cart side so you can sign in there.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in to Penni Cart in that tab and give Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved once, then every trigger and action that uses Penni Cart reuses it.
Your first Zap: a coupon for every abandoned cart
GoalWhen a buyer leaves the checkout, Penni Cart creates a coupon and an email sends it to them.
- 01
Build: pick the trigger
Create a Zap, choose Penni Cart as the app and Abandoned Cart as the event, then your Penni Cart connection. Set the number of minutes to wait before a checkout counts as abandoned.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you map the next steps on a real abandoned checkout, not on a made-up one.
- 03
Add the coupon action
Add Penni Cart again with Create / Update Coupon. Fill the coupon type, name, discount type, amount and minimum requirements. This second step makes the Zap multi-step, so a paid plan is needed.
- 04
Add the email and map it
Add your email app as the last step and map the buyer from the trigger and the coupon from the step before into the message. Test each step once and read what came back.
- 05
Publish
Publish the Zap to switch it on. From then on, each checkout left behind past your delay produces a coupon and an email, with no wait for a plan interval.
Penni Cart triggers on Zapier
7 events start a Zap when something happens in Penni Cart, and 7 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Product Added to Cart
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a product is added to the cart.”
A shopper drops a product into the cart, and your Zap starts with that product and that cart in hand. It is the earliest signal Penni Cart gives, well before anyone pays.
Cancel Subscription
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a subscription is cancelled”
Churn, caught on the spot. The Zap runs each time a subscription is cancelled in Penni Cart, carrying that subscription into the next steps.
Abandoned Cart
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a user leaves the checkout without completing their purchase after a set time.”
Somebody reached the checkout and walked away without buying. Penni Cart waits the number of minutes you choose, then hands that checkout to your Zap so you can try to win the sale back.
Failed Transaction
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a customer’s checkout attempt is unsuccessful.”
When a customer tries to pay and the checkout attempt does not go through, this trigger passes that failed attempt to your Zap. It is the sale you almost had.
New Subscription
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new successful subscription order completes”
Fresh recurring revenue: each new subscription order that completes successfully starts the Zap, so the next steps know who just subscribed.
New Transaction
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a customer successfully completes a purchase.”
Use this one for paid orders. Each time a customer completes a purchase, the Zap receives that transaction and can pass it to your books, your CRM or your team chat.
Update Subscription
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a subscription is updated”
Any change to an existing subscription in Penni Cart sends it to your Zap. That keeps your other tools in step with what the subscriber now has.
The Penni Cart action on Zapier
Penni Cart gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create / Update Coupon
ActionIn Zapier“Generates a new discount or updates existing coupon”
This step generates a new discount coupon in Penni Cart, or updates one that already exists, from the values your Zap passes. You set the type of coupon, its name, the kind of discount, the amount and the minimum the buyer must reach.
When a Penni Cart Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Penni Cart, and no limit specific to the app is documented. What breaks is what breaks on any Zap.
Four cases to know before you publish. If a run looks off, start with the Zapier troubleshooting page.
Past orders are never sent
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Carts, sales and subscriptions from before are not picked up; moving that history is a separate job.A coupon loop that eats tasks
If a Zap writes into the very data its own trigger watches, it sets itself off again and again. Keep coupon and subscription Zaps from feeding each other.A sudden flood can be held back
When a trigger suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the run back instead of firing for each item.Every event is its own run
Instant triggers send each event as it comes. A buyer who adds five products or fails three payments starts five or three runs, each paying for its actions.
