Overview

What the Personalize Zapier integration does for you

Personalize works out what each customer cares about most right now. The Zapier integration carries that signal out of Personalize: a new contact, a change in one person's top 3 interests, or a shift in the overall picture starts a Zap that updates your other tools. Personalize is not a premium app, so the free plan accepts it.

Three results worth building. A sales nudge at the right moment: Contact Interest Changes pings a rep when a known contact's top 3 interests move, so the next call talks about the right product. A clean contact list elsewhere: New Contact copies each fresh contact into your CRM or a spreadsheet. A trend alert for marketing: the two Overall Top Interests Change triggers report when the rollup for known contacts, or for anonymous website visitors, changes, which is a cue to rethink the home page offer or the next campaign.

What the integration does not do is just as clear. Personalize has no action on Zapier: no Zap can create a contact, tag one or push data into Personalize. There is no search step either, so a Zap cannot look up a contact's interests on demand. It only talks, it never listens.

All four triggers are instant, so the plan interval never delays them. To compare with other tools, there are Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier, plus our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary, kept simple

Seven terms you will see while you build a Personalize Zap.

Zap
An automation built on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. With Personalize, it is always one of its four: a contact or an interest change.
Action
What the Zap does next, in another app: write a row, send a message, update a record. Personalize has none.
Task
What Zapier bills: one action completed successfully. Your plan includes a fixed number of them each month.
Polling vs instant
Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer. Instant: the app warns Zapier itself, so nothing waits. Personalize is instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Connection
Your Personalize account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that starts on a Personalize trigger.
Cost

What a Personalize Zap costs

Personalize itself never costs a task on Zapier: it only triggers, and triggers are free. You pay for what the other apps do.

  • Personalize trigger0 tasks
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

Each action that succeeds in the following steps counts as one task, and a failed one is not billed. A Zap that posts a team message for every interest change uses one task per change. Some apps and actions take more than one task, so watch the counter after the first runs. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps: one trigger and one action. Add a filter, say to keep only certain interests, or a second action, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. All four Personalize triggers are instant, so the interval grid below does not apply to them.

Connect

Connect Personalize to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. You need a Personalize account, plus access to any data you do not own that the Zap will touch.

  2. 02

    Select Personalize

Search Personalize by name in the dialog, pick it from the list of results, then click Add connection. Zapier opens a new tab on the Personalize side.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Personalize in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection is then saved, and every Personalize trigger you pick later offers it in a list.

First Zap

Your first Personalize Zap

GoalTell the sales channel whenever a known contact's top 3 interests change, but only for the products the team sells directly.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose Personalize as the app and Contact Interest Changes as the event, then select your Personalize connection.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so the next steps are mapped on a real change.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Add a Filter step and set the field, the rule and the value. Pick a text rule for an interest name. The Zap is now multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the message

Add your team chat app as the action, pick the channel, and map the contact and their new interests into the message text. Test the step once.

  5. 05

    Publish

Read what the test sent, then click Publish. The Zap is on, and each matching interest change lands in the sales channel.

Triggers

Personalize triggers

4 events start a Zap when something happens in Personalize, and 4 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Contact

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new contact is added”

Starts a Zap each time a contact is added in Personalize, and hands what Personalize knows about that person to the steps that follow. It is the one to pick when the contact list itself matters more than interests.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
every new contact should also appear in your CRM or in a shared spreadsheet, without anyone exporting a list.
Watch out
contacts added before the Zap was switched on are never sent; only new ones come through.
2

Contact Interest Changes

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when any top 3 interests change for a contact”

Watches one person at a time: whenever any of a contact's top 3 interests changes, the Zap runs for that contact. This is the most direct link between what Personalize learns and what a salesperson does next.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a rep should hear when a known lead drifts from one product line to another, before the next follow-up call.
Watch out
any move in the top 3 counts, so a busy contact can fire several runs; a filter keeps only the changes that matter.
3

Overall Top Interests Change (Known Contacts)

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when top 3 interests rollup for all known contacts has changed”

Looks at the whole base rather than one person. When the combined top 3 interests across all your known contacts shift, Personalize reports it and the Zap runs once for that new picture.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
marketing wants a heads-up in its channel when customers as a group start leaning toward a different offer.
Watch out
it carries the overall trend, not the contacts behind it, so do not expect a person to email.
4

Overall Top Interests Change (Anonymous Visitors)

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when top 3 interests rollup for all website visitors has changed”

Same idea, aimed at people you do not know yet. It runs when the combined top 3 interests of all your website visitors change, which tells you what draws traffic before anyone fills in a form.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
the web team logs each shift in a spreadsheet to decide which product the home page should push.
Watch out
anonymous visitors have no contact details, so this trigger cannot feed a CRM record or an email step for a person.
When it breaks

When a Personalize Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article to Personalize, so the cases below come from how every Zap behaves on Zapier.

Personalize only sends events, so most failures happen in the steps that receive them. Start with these three, and keep our Zapier troubleshooting page for the rest.

  • No history, only what comes next

A Zap reacts to what happens after you publish it. Contacts already in Personalize and past interest changes are not replayed; moving them is a separate job.
  • A bulk import gets held back

Import a big contact list into Personalize and New Contact may send a huge batch at once; Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running it all.
  • A filter that never lets anything through

Filter rules are typed: a text rule only reads text, a number rule only numbers. Pick a number rule for an interest name and the filter stops every run.

FAQ

Personalize Zapier integration: what people ask

01Is the Personalize Zapier integration free?
Yes. Personalize is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps: one trigger and one action. A Personalize trigger followed by one message or one row in another app fits exactly. Add a filter to keep only some interests, or a second action, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Since the triggers themselves cost nothing, the bill depends only on what the following steps do.
02How many tasks does a Personalize Zap use?
None for Personalize itself. Its four triggers are free, and a task is only counted when an action in another app succeeds. A Zap that posts one team message per interest change costs one task per change. A failed action is not billed. Watch out for Contact Interest Changes on an active base: every move in a contact's top 3 starts a run, and each run spends a task in the next step. Some apps and actions take more than one task, so check your usage early.
03Does Personalize work in real time with Zapier?
Yes. All four Personalize triggers are instant: Personalize reports the event to Zapier itself, and the Zap starts right away, on the free plan too. The interval grid (15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise) only concerns polling triggers, and Personalize has none. In the editor, a lightning bolt marks Zaps built on an instant trigger. What happens afterwards depends on the apps in the following steps, which run in the order you set.
04What does it take to connect Personalize to Zapier?
A Personalize account, and nothing technical. You connect once from the Apps page of Zapier: add a connection, pick Personalize, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. Every Personalize trigger then offers that connection in a list. If the Zap writes into tools or files you do not own, such as a shared CRM or spreadsheet, you also need read or write rights there. None of the four triggers asks for a required field of its own.
05What is the difference between the contact and overall interest triggers?
Scale. Contact Interest Changes runs for one contact whenever any of their top 3 interests changes, so it suits sales follow-up. The two Overall Top Interests Change triggers run when the combined top 3 shifts, either across all known contacts or across all anonymous website visitors. Those carry a trend, not a person, so they fit a team alert or a log, not a CRM update. Pick the contact trigger for one-to-one action, an overall one for marketing decisions.
06What if the Personalize action you need does not exist?
Then Zapier cannot do it, because Personalize has no action and no search there. No Zap can create a contact in Personalize, change one, or ask for a contact's interests on demand; the integration only sends events out. The practical answer is to design flows where Personalize starts the Zap and other apps do the work. If writing into Personalize is the actual need, a different automation tool or a custom build is the honest route.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Personalize?
Choose on criteria, not on a ranking. On Zapier, Personalize brings four instant triggers, no action, no search and no premium surcharge, with a free plan capped at two-step Zaps and 100 tasks a month. Three questions settle it. Is reacting to contacts and interest changes enough? Zapier covers it. Do you need to filter or chain several steps? Plan a paid tier. Do you need to write into Personalize? Check whether the other tool offers that for Personalize, as this page only documents the Zapier side.
