Pinboard Zapier integrationAutomate Pinboard with Zapier.
The Pinboard Zapier integration gives you 1 trigger, 1 action and 0 searches. That is a small set, but it covers both directions: a new bookmark in Pinboard can start a Zap, and links collected in other apps can land in Pinboard with a title, without copy and paste.

What the Pinboard Zapier integration does for you
Pinboard keeps your saved links online, with nothing in the way: no ads, no clutter, just the list. The Zapier integration plugs it into the rest of your tools: what you bookmark can be shared or logged elsewhere automatically, and links found in other apps can be saved into your Pinboard account without opening it.
Three results cover most uses. A reading list the team actually sees: New Bookmark picks up each link you save and a second app posts it to a channel or a newsletter draft. A research log that fills itself: the same trigger feeds a spreadsheet row per bookmark, so nothing you save for a project gets lost. And a single place for links found elsewhere: starred items, form answers or messages from another app reach Pinboard through Create Bookmark, with their address and a title.
The limits are just as clear. There is one trigger and one action, nothing else: no search to find an existing bookmark, no step to edit or delete one. New Bookmark is a polling trigger, so Zapier checks your account on a timer rather than hearing from Pinboard straight away. And putting New Bookmark and Create Bookmark in the same Zap is a trap, covered further down.
The same app also has a Make page: Pinboard Make integration. For the platforms side by side, see Make vs Zapier.
Zapier words, in plain English
Seven terms used across this page, each explained once.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one starting event, then one or more steps that run every time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. For Pinboard it is New Bookmark. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes or sends something. Pinboard's only action saves a bookmark.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is counted in tasks.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items and keeping only what it hasn't seen yet. New Bookmark is one.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself the moment the event happens, with no wait for the next check. Pinboard offers none.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when the incoming item meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
What a Pinboard Zap really costs
Pinboard is not reserved for paid plans on Zapier: it works on the free plan. Only actions that succeed are billed.
- Free plan100 tasks per month, unlimited Zaps
- Steps on the free plan2 (one trigger, one action)
- Pinboard on the free planYes
- New BookmarkPolling, free to run
New Bookmark costs nothing, and neither do Zapier's checks of your account, however often they run. Each Create Bookmark that works counts as one task, like any action in another app that follows New Bookmark; a failed action is not counted. On the free plan, Zaps stop at two steps, one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. How often New Bookmark is checked depends on the plan below.
Connect Pinboard to Zapier
- 01
Go to Apps
Open the Apps page of your Zapier account and click + Add connection. You need a Pinboard account before you start; the connection links an existing account and doesn't create one.
- 02
Select Pinboard
Search for Pinboard in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Pinboard side, where you sign in with your usual Pinboard login.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Log in to Pinboard in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. Zapier saves the connection, and both New Bookmark and Create Bookmark reuse it in every Zap you build afterwards.
Your first Zap: a research log from your bookmarks
GoalEvery bookmark you save for a project becomes a row in a shared sheet, and nothing else does.
- 01
Build: start on New Bookmark
Create a Zap, choose Pinboard as the app and New Bookmark as the event, then pick your Pinboard connection from the list.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent bookmarks of your account, so you can choose a real one and map its title and address in the next steps.
- 03
Add a filter
Click the plus icon, choose Filter, and let the Zap through only when the title contains the project name, using a text rule. The filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
- 04
Add the sheet row
Add your spreadsheet app as the action, map the bookmark title and address into their columns, and run Configure & test once to check the row looks right.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only bookmarks saved from now on are picked up; the ones already in your account stay out of the sheet.
The Pinboard trigger
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Pinboard. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Bookmark
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a bookmark is created in your account.”
Starts a Zap each time a bookmark is created in your Pinboard account, wherever you saved it from. What the bookmark carries can then feed every step that follows, in this app or another.
The Pinboard action
Pinboard gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Bookmark
ActionIn Zapier“This creates a new bookmark on your Pinboard.”
Saves a new bookmark in your Pinboard account from data that another app hands over, so links collected elsewhere end up in the same archive.
When a Pinboard Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Pinboard, so the cases below come from how Zapier itself behaves.
With one polling trigger and one action that writes to the same account, the weak points are loops and timing. For a broader method, see Zapier troubleshooting.
New Bookmark feeding Create Bookmark
A Zap that writes where its own trigger watches sets itself off again and again. Each bookmark it creates is a new bookmark, and the task count drains fast.Existing bookmarks stay out
A Zap only reacts to bookmarks created after it is switched on. Your archive is never replayed; moving it elsewhere is a separate job.Bulk imports held back
If a large batch of bookmarks shows up at once, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running the Zap on each one.No duplicates on a seen bookmark
Zapier remembers which bookmarks it has already seen on New Bookmark, so the same one doesn't start the Zap twice across checks.
