Pinterest Zapier integrationAutomate Pinterest with Zapier.
The Pinterest Zapier integration gives you 3 triggers, 2 actions and 0 searches. Enough to react to a new board, a new follower or a new Pin, and to publish a Pin on a board you pick. One catch up front: Pinterest is reserved for paid Zapier plans.
Premium app Zapier reserves this app to its paid plans.

What the Pinterest Zapier integration actually does
The Pinterest Zapier integration links your Pinterest account to Zapier so that something happening on Pinterest (a board, a follower, a Pin) starts an automation, and so that a Zap can publish a Pin for you. It covers 5 visible operations, and every trigger works by polling, never instantly.
Three results people build with it. A record of every board you open: New Board fires when you create a board, and the next step logs it wherever your team keeps its content calendar. A follower feed: New Follower fires when someone follows you, so a marketer can count or greet new followers without opening the app. A Pin echoed on a second board: New Pin fires when a Pin lands on a board, and Create Pin publishes it again on the board you choose.
What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an existing Pin or board before acting. There is no action to edit, move or delete a Pin. A secret board never starts New Board. And since none of the triggers is instant, every event waits for the next check of your plan.
For the same app on another tool, see the Pinterest Make integration. If you are still choosing a platform, there is also n8n vs Zapier.
Zapier vocabulary, in plain words
Eight words come back all through this page. Here they are once, so the rest reads without a dictionary.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The Pinterest event that starts the Zap, like a new Pin. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or publishes something for you, such as a Pin.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One action that completes successfully is one task, and your plan counts those.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer. It asks Pinterest for recent items and keeps only the ones it has not seen.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens. Pinterest has none on Zapier today.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it needs a paid plan.
What a Pinterest Zap really costs
Pinterest is a premium app: Zapier keeps it for paid plans and the free trial, so the free plan is out from the start.
- Trigger check0 tasks
- Successful action1 task each
- Failed actionNot counted
- Free plan100 tasks a month, no premium app
The trigger never costs a task, however often Zapier checks Pinterest. Each Create Pin that succeeds counts one task; one that fails counts nothing. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which paid plans allow anyway. What your plan changes is the delay before a new Pin or follower is seen: the interval grid below applies to all three Pinterest triggers, since none of them is instant. A check you run by hand from the editor bills nothing either.
Connect your Pinterest account in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A dialog opens where you type Pinterest and pick it from the list. You need an existing Pinterest account before you start.
- 02
Sign in to Pinterest
Click Add connection. Pinterest opens in a new tab and asks you to sign in with the account the Zaps will use. Use the account whose boards you want to automate.
- 03
Grant access
Accept the access request so Zapier can read your boards and publish Pins. The connection is then saved once and reused by every Pinterest step, in every Zap you build afterwards.
Your first Pinterest Zap, step by step
GoalEvery new Pin on your main board gets published again on a second board, only when it passes a condition you choose.
- 01
Pick the trigger
Create a Zap, choose Pinterest as the app that starts it and New Pin as the event. Select your Pinterest connection, the one set up in the previous section.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent Pins of the account, so you pick a real one and build the next steps on actual data rather than a blank form.
- 03
Add the filter
Add a filter step from the plus icon. Set the value to look at, the rule and the value to compare with. Use a text rule on text, or the filter never lets anything through.
- 04
Set Create Pin
Add Pinterest again, event Create Pin. Choose the destination Board, never the one New Pin watches, then map the image from the test Pin into Image.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action and check the Pin on the second board. If it looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. From then on, only Pins added after that moment start it.
Pinterest triggers on Zapier
3 events start a Zap when something happens in Pinterest. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Board
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when you create a new board. Note that a "secret" board will not trigger your Zap.”
Starts the Zap each time you create a board on your Pinterest account, and hands the board on to the next step so you can log it, announce it or plan content for it.
New Follower
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when you get a new follower.”
Fires when a new person follows your Pinterest account. Each follower becomes one run of the Zap, which is handy for counting growth or passing the name to a tool your team already reads.
New Pin
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new Pin is added to a board.”
Runs when a Pin is added to a board. It is the trigger most Pinterest Zaps start with, because a Pin is the thing you want to republish, archive or share elsewhere.
Pinterest actions on Zapier
Pinterest gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Pin
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a new Pin on the board you specify.”
Publishes a new Pin on the board you name. You choose the Board and give it an Image, the two fields it refuses to run without.
API Request (Beta)
ActionIn Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”
An advanced, still in beta action that sends a raw request to Pinterest using the connection you already set up. It asks for a method, a URL and a Stop on error choice.
When a Pinterest Zap breaks
Zapier keeps a help article called Common problems with Pinterest on Zapier, and the cases below come from the facts this page can stand behind.
Most of these breakages show up only once the Zap has run for a while. Read them before you publish. For a stuck Zap, there is a Zapier troubleshooting page too.
The old Pins never arrive
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Boards, Pins and followers that already existed are never picked up; moving that backlog is a separate job.A secret board stays silent
New Board ignores secret boards entirely. If your team prepares boards in secret before launch, the Zap starts only once a board is visible. The Zap feeds itself
New Pin watching a board and Create Pin posting on that same board means every published Pin starts the Zap again, and the task count drops fast.A sudden batch is held back
After a bulk import of Pins, the trigger may return a huge batch at once, and Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
